I was a boy growing up in Detroit and I LOVED watching Sonny!! How many kids watched the news just to laugh with Sonny doing the weather?? Every channel nowadays might as well be the same people reading the same news. Watching Sonny was a terrific memory from my youth. Sonny, you're one of a kind and there will NEVER be anyone who can come close to you.
I grew up in Belleville, Michigan. That means I grew up watching Sonny Elliot weather forecast every night. i have one thing to say about Sonny Elliot, BEST WEATHERMAN of ALL TIME!
His wife was my 6th grade teacher in Pleasent view elementary school ..he came into our classroom did a commercial with our class about Sonny Elliot at the zoo ..his show he had on television ....
I can still remember seeing Sonny doing his morning weather reports before going to school in the 1970s. My parents had a 13" b&w tv in our kitchen so my mom could watch the news while making our breakfast. Magical times back then.
Watching/listening to Sonny Eliot *DO* the weather was a cultural touchstone for anyone living/growing up in Michigan & surrounding areas. He was a funny & good man & lived a giving & wise life, & I feel lucky that I got to watch him.
There was only ONE Sonny Elliot! His like will never come our way again. He had real talent PLUS a real personality that would make anyone smile. Today, everyone seems more concerned if you have enough credentials(degrees) instead of if you're talented and can connect with the audience. We ALL miss you and you infectious happiness Sonny!
What a LEGEND! Sonny was truly one of a kind. He made you laugh. He DID succeed in television. His face and style is missed so much. Find memories of Sonny. And early Detroit television. Thank you Sonny for 6 decades of your talent and laughter.
I grew up watch Sonny Eliot do the weather even though we live about 60 miles east of Detroit in Ontario, I was always fascinated by the weather and he had a lot to do with that. I'm now 56, I've live many places, from Toronto to Tampa and have never seen a better weatherman ever.
I was in a bar in Detroit years ago and was feeling no pain. Sonny Elliott was sitting at the bar--I walked over, introduced myself and told him I didn't know who I missed more--him or Milky the Clown---he threw back his head and laughed.
@Michael Collins. Thank you for putting this together...and SO WELL!! So glad he was invited to meet Sophie Tucker! That must have been a treat for BOTH of them! 💚🛩🌤 💚🇺🇸💚
My father worked at WJR radio and then WWJ-TV. We lived in Birmingham. I worked at the Birmingham and Bloomfield theaters as a candy girl. I made 55 cents an hour, the ushers made 65cents. This brings back sooo many memories.
Sonny was the man..... I was fortunate enough to meet him...... He would come into Lindell A.C. On Michigan ave at noon, as we were renovating the old Howard Johnson hotel on Washington blvd. A bunch of us construction workers would be sitting together and Sonny would approach us and begin telling us jokes... He was hilarious.... Also I met him at his restaurant at City airport, Sonnys weather station.... Again he approached me and my mother and introduced himself. He gave my mother two black ashtrays with sonny’s weather station printed in white letters.... I wished I had them now.... Sonny was a pilot, and I eventually became a pilot as well ...... good memories...... I actually told the story in reverse, The restaurant meeting I was only 10 or 11. My mother had taken me to see a replica of the Spirit of St. Louis arrive...The Lindell A.C. meeting, I was 22 or 23...
Sonny was just as accurate (if not more accurate) as the modern weather forecasters with all their super computers and radars. Plus he was great to watch! Sure miss him.
If you had the archives of Sonny's weather broadcasts you could peice together current forcasts and he'd still be on the air with some of his jokes thrown in
I remember him as a kid. He was always funny. I didn't know about his WWII experience. That would be interesting to learn... He was apparently a B24 pilot shot down over Germany and spent a year or so as a POW... He was also Jewish in a German POW camp... that would have been interesting hear his experience.
Sun sets tonight at 8:31, rises tomorrow morning at EXACTICTICTICALY 6:52. Current official official temperature in our town is 77 degrees, and LADY Jane take it away. I'll be back tomorrow afternoon, 4:19.
Once in a while he'd say: When I was born, I looked exactly like a "just hatched" baby parrot". (It was true, and funny as HELL!)! The toupees he wore were atrocious!
Whish that I had s gotten to see his shows. Growing up we had a morning news talk radio show host in Battle Creek that had personality & humor like this. Now they don't seem to wanna keep anyone with humor. Sad.

I watched his reports 5 days a week growing up. 630 to 700 am while eating cereal. 😆

Had his wife as my 6th grade teacher (and a darn good teacher, too) and he showed up several times. He was just as personable offscreen. We loved him.
I loved Sunny. He was so funny and brought a new dimension to delivering the weather with the silly new way of combining two words to make one.

Rich or poor, all love him,one of many who made Detroit,a place to call home.
He had great way of mixing weather events. Snow and rain was ‘snaney’ kind of weather…
At the Zoo. I had more than a few beers with Sonny at the Lindell A.C. He was a Detroiter. God Bless.
Anybody remember Daedal Door's on Channel 7 Sunday mornings right before Hot Fudge?
Yes.
He is one in my memory banks for sure!
0:44 as a kid I would watch just for him to do that bit. We were blessed to have him.
