Thanks for this. I’m a Flintoid and spent many a fine Saturday afternoon watching all the great stuff on WKBD TV50 out of Detroit. 70’s television was the best for shows and commercials. Great stuff 💯🤩
What a great video. I grew up in the small town of Napoleon, between Jackson and Ann Arbor. Using our tall antenna we could receive all the Detroit stations so a lot of these clips I can remember as a teen growing up. And Bill Bonds is a legend and what a final commentary…so applicable in today’s crazy world. He had no idea how bad it would get.
Born and raised in Flint Michigan and I was a 70s kid growing up on the Eastside and I remember all of these commercials. this was a blast from the past.👍🙂😛🤪
I grew up in Flint Michigan from 1959 to 1972 then moved to Grand Blanc. Really enjoyed the memories. The best of all was the ending with Bill Bonds talking truth!
I'm a Detroiter ,100% through and through, brought back a lot of memories, most good, some bad, I would almost give anything to take that journey again on the East Side of the BIG ''D'' .The 70s and 80s, I had some of the best times with some of the best people I have met so far in my 49 years of life, This was the Time and Place to be, I lived right off 7 mile between van dyke and Sherwood, I miss the sound of those big old twin engine prop planes coming over my neighborhood , we were right in the middle of take off and landing at Detroit City Airport, my grade school, Marion Law Middle school just a block down from my house down the street, k-8th,playing baseball at the old cheese box, riding ten speeds and skate boards, man I sure do miss it.
The only thing that was missing was the Highland Appliance "Midnight Madness Sale" commercial... "2 DAYS1" I met Sir Graves in Bellville Mich. when I was in kindergarten. Mom got a picture I still have to this day. Awesome video. Wish I could thumbs up it twice.
I grew up in Flint. We were fortunate enough to have a high mount motorized Ariel antennae which brought in stations as far as Chicago. These were great days for television!
Wow thank you so much for bringing back wonderful childhood memories. I had forgotten about the Friendly Giant, I remember pretending to sit in the first tiny chair he would touch. The DIA's You Gotta Have Art was wonderful I still remember all the words and when it flashed to the dining hall I was transported back to a child having lunch with my mother and just loving that area of the museum. What a wonderful time in life. I wish I would have appreciated it more, all I wanted to be was a grown up and now I want to go back to the 60s & 70s and be a kid again. *sigh*
RIP Mervyn's and Highland Appliances and Mel Farr Auto. I was born in Detroit in '78. Grew up in Highland Park and then on to Northwest Detroit. Never saw Bill Bond's hair without gray or Amyre Makupson at such a young age. I was jammin' to that playground scene when they were playin' Steely Dan "Hey Nineteen!" :-D And Sir Graves Ghastly, older cats told me about him. Can't remember him though. I remember Shocktober on Channel 50 with Elvira. I think maybe Masterpiece Theater too. Amazing Stories. Tales From The Darkside. Tales From The Crypt after those guys in the 90's. Great memories though! Thanks Maytons.
Remember why Highland and Fredder went out of business? They kept poking price wars with ABC warehouse so ABC made a commecial saying " ATTENTION HIGHLAND AND FREDDER ANYTHING YOU SELL WE WILL SELL FOR FIVE DOLLARS LESS.
@Maytons Yeah, I'm a Ron Paul guy and an ex-Metro Detroiter. I grew up on Bill Bonds, the Tigers (George Kell, Al Kaline, Ernie and Paul), Sir Graves and don't forget ... Sony Elliott. Those were the days! Simpler times. Better times, IMHO. Thanks again for the video. You took me back ... WAY back! I grinned when I saw the art video. I had totally forgot about that but in an instant I was 9 years old again.
Just found this video and it brought back a lot of memories. I grew up in the Flint area, but most of our TV came from Detroit. They don't make 'em like Bill Bonds anymore.
Thanks for bringing this compilation of Detroit TV to youtube. This brought back so many forgotten memories of growing up in Detroit in the 70's & 80's. Sadly it will never be the same. The Bill Bonds commentary at the end was very touching. Thanks again.
I LOVED The Friendly Giant show...it brings back best memories. That tune has been with me for years...loved the castle and at the end the cow jumping over thew moon as the draw bridge closes...best
all man yes I remember the commercial the show late night wow take me back to my teenage years sir graves on Saturday these are over fifty years ago WOW thanks for the post
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Thank you for putting this together too ! WOW Bill Kennedy at the Movies, so many great memories. The one I always liked the best was the D.I.A. Commercial " You Gotta Have Art" and Burger Kings "Heave it your way at Burger King, because it takes two hands to handle a Whopper" Hold the pickles, hold the lettuce, special orders don't upset us....... Very Cool 😎 Thank You 👍Adam .
Great memories from a better time. Fantastic job. I sure remember that Highland commercial with the Ruskies. We kids would see each other at school and say "Hello, you!" Also, Mr. Bill Bonds was a wise old fellow.
For YEARS I've asked so many people from home about "Saturday Night Dead" and no one remembered! Thought I was nuts and the show didn't exist, thank you for confirming I'm not!
Excellent job...these really bring back memories, some I haven't seen in YEARS! Thanx so much for bringing them to RUclips...if you need ideas for more of these compilations, let me know.
OMG!!! I remember Sir Ghastly. He use to scare me as a child. I use to sit real close to my Dad, When I would watch his show. Such wonderful memories! Flinstone for life and 70"s baby.
@classcarpentry I know the feeling all too well!! My homesickness is what inspired me to make this video and I look forward to my trip home every year! Glad you enjoyed!!
The "remarkable mouth" schtick was used for many ABC-owned stations around the country (especially AM). WRIF-FM, however, appears to be the only one that trademarked the interjection "Baby!"
Thanks for the memories, Anthony Harris, the young man mentioned in the train accident went to school with me, I still remember the incident like it was yesterday!!
Absolutely loved the Detroit Institute of Arts commercial. I haven't heard that in over 30 years. Amazingly I still knew the words! I do believe there was on glaring omission in this video though. You really needed a Sonny Eliot clip in there.
Thanks a lot for posting.I grew up with WKBD way back when it was an Independent Station,It later went to Fox,UPN,& finally with CW.It also had some of my favorite shows that ran (Andy Griffith,Brady Bunch,Gilligan's Island,Odd Couple & among others).Also.I'm from Escanaba originally & we had Cable then that particular time.Today,I live in Bradenton,Florida.
Great video! Thanks for the memories! You made my day. I haven't seen these in years. I grew up between Flint and Detroit so we got both TV markets over the air, plus Lansing, Saginaw, Bay City and Windsor's TV-9 which was often times fuzzy.
Oh my God! This was freakin' AWESOME. I can't believe I still remember the Mel Farr jingle. And the commentary Bill Bonds had at the end....just as true today as it was then. THANK YOU, THANK YOU for bringing back my childhood!!
Wow, that DIA commercial really takes me back. Haven't seen it for decades and I remembered it enough to sing along with it. Thank you for making this.
Terrific upload Dave! It's hard to believe that we actually had to wait until 11 p.m. for a news update or until Sunday night for the movie of the week. Thanks for rekindling all of these memories of growing up in Flint back in the 60's and 70's.
Anyone here growing up in the Detroit area remember Daedle Doors-a religious program for kids? Or the Joshua Doors commercial.."You've got an uncle in the furniture business-Joshua Doors"? Thanks for the compilation.
The name sounded vaguely familiar so I looked it up. I was born in the Detroit area (I will be 45 on 2/27/18) and I moved to Ohio in 1993. The name does ring a bell.
I LOVED Detroit in the '70s and '80s. the Renaissance Center was new, Belle Isle, Cunningham's drug stores, Northland mall, Stanley's Chinese restaurant, 20 Grand club, Hudson's Dept. store (downtown),Edgewater park, River rouge park, Boblo park, "The scene" t.v. dance show etc, etc...........sigh!
@@jayne59brohammer wouldn't that be nice, lol. I'll meet you at either Lilli on Woodward, Joe Muer's or Sign of the Beefcarvers on Grand River, LOL LOL. I miss those places.
Captain Janeway? I sure as heck don't remember Kate Loves A Mystery, but I sure recognize her. Nice video. It does bring back some memories. Especially The CBS Late Movie. There's been a few time when I was trying to remember exactly how the opening theme song to that went.
Awesome TV...loved it. Despite Bill Bonds recklessness, what he had said mirrors today. Perhaps that's what was gnawing at him for years. Found out the news was not real..
Loved the Hot Fudge Show. I recently was watching what was on youtube from this show. Now it's so ridiculous and campy, but I loved it so much as a kid.
Thanks Vinny! That was exactly the effect I was going for. I even added channel static between the clips to make it feel like the channels were actually being changed.
thank you for randomly showing up i love the faygo song and the boblo boat I was just missing my mom who passed in Nov 2021
Thanks for enjoying! 14:09.... the great Sir Graves Ghastly aired from 1967 to 1982. My favorite horror host of all time!
Great collection. Love "Gotta Have Art", "Fifty watts per channel babycakes", Mel Far Ford and others. Thanks
Thanks for this. I’m a Flintoid and spent many a fine Saturday afternoon watching all the great stuff on WKBD TV50 out of Detroit. 70’s television was the best for shows and commercials. Great stuff 💯🤩
I was either glued to Sir Graves or the WKBD Chiller Movie.
The whole video was a fantastic memory lane trip. I love the static fuzz as a nostalgic final touch.
Thank you kindly. PS- I love your name!
Well done!
Bill Bonds with a message as relevant today as it was in the 80s
Always entertaining to see Bill go off the rails.

The Friendly Giant.. I loved that as a little kid. It was actually a Canadian television show, but we got it on channel 9 in the Detroit area.

Wow ty for posting these great memories. I was a kid when I watched these.
You're very welcome friend. It was a labor of love.
WOW loved this!!!! Remember a lot of these and Bill Bonds was, in my opinion, the Walter Cronkite of Detroit.
Couldn't agree more with that sentiment, but I think Bill actually had a harder punch when it came to investigative journalism.
@@maytons no question, he was the real deal.

This was too much! Love the stroll down yesteryear Detroit TV!
Bill Bonds was prophetic.
That's when we only had 4 or 5 TV stations but they ran quality shows - nothing like the crap we pay a fortune for today.
Dave,
Thank you so much for the upload! This takes me back to my childhood days in Detroit! Makes me want to get some Faygo rock-in-rye right now!
Such great memories ...the commercials are etched in my memory bank after 40 years.
