  • Remember when TV was a family event? If you have 20 minutes to spare, I can give you a ride in the time machine! You won't believe the long forgotten faces and sounds you'll see in here. Here's a few names for you... Bill Bonds, Ollie Fretter, Sir Graves Ghastly, The Friendly Giant, Amyre Makupson, and the list goes on and on. You'll find great vintage news briefs, commercials, advertisements and other clips from the 1970's and 1980's. I even threw in the static channels in between for more reality. There's also a special broadcast at the end. Enjoy the ride!!
PS- A very special thank you to www.fuzzymemories.tv

I'm a Detroiter ,100% through and through, brought back a lot of memories, most good, some bad, I would almost give anything to take that journey again on the East Side of the BIG ''D'' .The 70s and 80s, I had some of the best times with some of the best people I have met so far in my 49 years of life, This was the Time and Place to be, I lived right off 7 mile between van dyke and Sherwood, I miss the sound of those big old twin engine prop planes coming over my neighborhood , we were right in the middle of take off and landing at Detroit City Airport, my grade school, Marion Law Middle school just a block down from my house down the street, k-8th,playing baseball at the old cheese box, riding ten speeds and skate boards, man I sure do miss it.

RIP Mervyn's and Highland Appliances and Mel Farr Auto. I was born in Detroit in '78. Grew up in Highland Park and then on to Northwest Detroit. Never saw Bill Bond's hair without gray or Amyre Makupson at such a young age. I was jammin' to that playground scene when they were playin' Steely Dan "Hey Nineteen!" :-D And Sir Graves Ghastly, older cats told me about him. Can't remember him though. I remember Shocktober on Channel 50 with Elvira. I think maybe Masterpiece Theater too. Amazing Stories. Tales From The Darkside. Tales From The Crypt after those guys in the 90's. Great memories though! Thanks Maytons.

The DIA's You Gotta Have Art was wonderful I still remember all the words and when it flashed to the dining hall I was transported back to a child having lunch with my mother and just loving that area of the museum.
What a wonderful time in life. I wish I would have appreciated it more, all I wanted to be was a grown up and now I want to go back to the 60s & 70s and be a kid again. *sigh*

Those were the days! Simpler times. Better times, IMHO. Thanks again for the video. You took me back ... WAY back! I grinned when I saw the art video. Using our tall antenna we could receive all the Detroit stations so a lot of these clips I can remember as a teen growing up. Interesting seeing Sam Merrill at ABC-12! I remember him on WNEM before he relocated to WTAE (Pittsburgh), then, he came back to WNEM for well over a decade.
I also mourned when WNEM announced almost two years ago that Sam collapsed at his home and was DOA at a Saginaw hospital. The station cancelled the noon newscast a few days later to allow the entire station to attend his funeral. It was heartbreaking seeing all the tributes that poured into the station...and the utmost respect shown from ABC 12 and NBC 25 as well as from CBS.

most of WNEM's people'd have lunch/dinner at petko's there in the yorkshire plaza...think it's a pizza franchise joint now. Originally owned by the Brayans' then bought by Frank Pilara and Bob Donnelly, both Good Men, Great bosses, too. Yeah, Roberta Ray came in all the time, wasn't long after that She became a Judge. Every now and again Frank Cady would come in also,(Mr Magic, Bozo, News Presentation).

Dead from Detroit, it's Saturday Night ...
My father loved that Faygo song, and I still have the 45 that we gave him as a present. Somehow, I doubt it's available from iTunes. For my part, when you hear someone say "Rock 'n' roll!" as an exclamation of approval, my friends, family, and co-workers hear "Rock & Rye". Sir Graves's laugh comes out a few times a year, and since I no longer live in Michigan, well, these things draw strange looks. 🙂
Any younger Trekkies here notice someone from Voyager at 6:58, in her post-"Mrs. Columbo" show? And someone from Deep Space 9 in the same commercial?

Indeed...I remember when you heard "Kaiser Broadcasting" -- the "KB" -- all the time on Channel 50.

Loved the Hot Fudge Show. I recently was watching what was on youtube from this show. Now it's so ridiculous and campy, but I loved it so much as a kid.
