Holy cow. I was 5 in 1981, in the first grade and taking swimming lessons. It feels like such a long time ago.

I was born in Detroit in 1976.
Although I was 5yrs old in 1981, my memory is razor sharp in terms of remembering these commercials and the jingles.
Man o man this is some serious nostalgia (I remember being allowed to stay up as long as I wanted on weekends and my siblings and I would struggle to stay awake to see the Three Stooges or Laurel and Hardy and many of these commercials would air)…so many of my loved one I’ve lost since the airing of theses commercials.

I did too! It's just my parents made me be tucked into the pulled out sofa-bed in our spare room to watch TV that late, and I would often fall asleep before I got to see Comedy Classics (which was what they called the show that showed 3 Stooges and Laurel and Hardy shorts). I remember when it was an hour long and could get three 3 Stooges shorts in, or when it got shortened to a half hour and only showed one 3S short, and a Looney Tunes short.
      Great times, man!

@@JL-sm6cg another thing I do is look at the location of the businesses in the commercial because now that I’m older and have a better understanding of the metropolitan area geographically, I brings the commercials and the businesses to life even more.

When I was around 11 or 12 in the mid to late 1980s I had a paper route (Detroit Free Press) and the Saturday papers would have the comics and other advertisements from MC Sporting Goods and Dunham’s.
They would have High Top Converse that I’d fantasize about having a pair of.

At 17:45, I had a digital watch like the one in the commercial! If I recall correctly, it was a Criterion brand watch bought from Foland’s and it had stuff like the alarm, stopwatch, second time zone, and calendar features. My brother had a calculator watch and he couldn’t wear it to math class because the teachers were always on the lookout for them, for obvious reasons! 😊 Man, the stuff that was considered high-tech back then!

_Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?_ is one of my absolute favorite books from childhood. My mom gave it to me in '85. I always wished I could see the stage show. If I had $100 million, I'd make it into a movie one hundred per cent faithful to the book.
