  • Follow along as we head to Big Lake Arizona for a week of dispersed camping and fishing just south of Big Lake Recreation Area along FR68.
    We had a great week, relaxing in the cool temps at 9,000 feet - other than rain every afternoon (with one or two heavy days) it was a pleasure to be out of the heat and enjoy the cool pine country or Arizona. In the hottest summer days in Arizona, Big Lake is one of the few places within a relatively short drive from Phoenix where you can go to escape the hot temperatures - It offers plenty of camping areas as well as fishing, hiking and kayaking opportunities as well.

    What a great video. I haven't been to Big Lake since I was a kid in the 70s when my dad took us fishing. We lived in Show Low back then. Since then I've established a career in the Valley and have worked so constantly that I found myself in a rut. I am literally a walking example of all-work-and-no-play. I even lost a marriage to constantly working but that was a long time ago in the 90s. Today in my 60s I keep telling myself it sure would be nice to get out of the Valley. Maybe go back to Show Low and check out the places where I used to live. Maybe even go back to Big Lake or to Greer where my parents would load us up in the station wagon & go out to have a family Sunday picnic right by the river. There are a great many places in Arizona where one can enjoy a slower pace.

    Your videos are exactly what I'm looking for, thank you for taking the time. You had an aerial shot of your camp with three or four standing dead trees nearby. There is a risk there, taking note of the ones that had fallen. Keep showing us what's out there and be safe.

      Glad you enjoyed them and thanks - and yes, those trees were recently downed probably due to lightning.

    Thanks!! I needed a little shot of the Big Lake to get me through the Winter! We’ll be having another family get together at rainbow campground this summer but I’ve camped in sight of that corral many times.
    Again Thanks, see ya down the road.

    No diesel at Hon-Dah gas station - a lesson we've had to learn twice. We stopped going to Big Lake due to crowds years ago and started going to Reservation Lake. However, the road is so bad and beats the trailers/5th wheels up so much, we've decided that we won't be going back. Never realized there was dispersed camping near Big Lake, thanks for video.

      You’re welcome - Wow, I am surprised to hear Hon-Dah doesn’t have diesel! That’s good information to know ahead of time. It wasn’t too crowded this trip considering it was 4th of July weekend. Thanks for posting that info!

    Beautiful video!! How far to the main road and stores, gas, groceries, etc?

      Thank you, it’s about 21 miles from the 260, and then about 20 miles to the closest town of Springerville/Eager. There is a little store at the Lake that has a pretty good selection of “last minute” kinds of items, but I wouldn’t recommend shopping there unless you forget something critical like eggs , milk, ice or coffee etc. We always stock up and gas up in Show Low before heading out to the lake.

      Alpine is closer for groceries, gas, and propane.

    We’re planning to go this year and wondering is that a free spot to camp for tents?

    • @HolidayForTwo42
      @HolidayForTwo42  Год назад +1

      Certainly, plenty of room in the dispersed spots! Where we were is still close to the lake too!
