You know i never actually thought much of CATS, just knew it from parodies and such. But after seeing the movie trailer, i have a new found appreciation for this play for it's makeup and choreography. So i guess something good did come from the trailer after all!
CATS and RENT are my least favorite musicals. However after that trailer I have to convince my friends that the broadway version is not that bad. That's how bad the trailer is. It's manage to make me defend the broadway version.
This is how Cats is meant to be, in the movie they don't even have cat noses for goodness sake. I hope the movie at least got people who hadn't watched the musical yet curious enough to see this version.
The 2019 film is what got me into the Cats production as a whole, and I watched the 1998 film last night and totally adored it. The acrobatics are insane!
The actor who plays Munkustrap is literally *always* on his tip toes - it’s incredibly impressive, he certainly manages to be one of the most feline out of all the dancers.

when you're a first timer you get creeped out by the 1998 for a little bit but the longer you watch the more it sticks to you and next thing you know it's your sexual awakening

I love how my favorite cat is Electra and she literally has one solo line. "-With book and with bell!" I just find Electra adorable. And her costume is AWESOME. I love how her coat looks. And I love her little freckles. And after reading a bit on her wikipedia passage, I loved her even more. She's the oldest out of the kittens and she's the most mature. She's often seen in the background playing with Pouncival or Etectera. And she is often hanging out with Rumpleteazer in the background too. And because of that, and the feature similarities, I think that Rumpleteazer and Electra are relatives. Just absolutely love Electra.

@@vixymix101 Basically the jellicle cats are dumpster cats abandoned by humans, and every year there is a jellicle ball where they audition to get sent to Heavenside by Deuteronomy to live a new life. (basically die and be reborn) The Cats musical is a concept play, its not supposed to have a lot of plot. Its just supposed to be a fun experience, so thats why the Cats movie failed so hard. It tried to adapt a musical that was all about the characters, their costumes, singing, and choreography.
it's not always about sleekness, even in this century. this looks so much more natural, especially with the big fur, colors, even the big hair. it looks so much more real even more so without clothing.

The warmth in your butt is probably what left a nicely small depression on whatever you were sitting on giving the 2nd best option for a cat to bunker in...besides tight spaces like cardboard boxes. The warmth is like a cozy fireplace for their much smaller bodies with fur.
I remember watching this version as a kid. Didn’t understand much English then, especially in song form, but still managed to capture the personality of every character and distinguish them all easily. Saw the movie version yesterday, being a fluent English speaker now - and couldn’t tell anyone apart except for like 5 main characters. The designs for stage production just work soooo much better.
I love the chorus scene bc every subtle movement shows every cat's personality so clearly.. alonzo munkerstrap tugger and misto's hand movements are so different and on character,(alonzo full of zest and confidence munk leaderlike tugger.....like tugger and misto genuinely happy)and the expression on each cat's face when the boot appears out of nowhere are so like them as well(rumpleteazer's eyes going round looking genuinely surprised&unbelievably cute mungojerrie surprised and amused at the same time cassandra jellylorum and demeter looking elegantly offended) that's why I love chorus scenes as well as duets and solos.. you can't take your eyes off any cat even if they aren't the only main character of the scene
This production, hands down, is perfect. Some things just shouldn’t be adapted into other formats. This musical in particular is best as live performance art. But then again, it is a musical about cats. Big risk, but hey, this one is great. Even a filmed production is fine. But they tried Waaaaaay too hard for the actual movie.
Avery SoSavory the cat's name is Cassandra and her aesthetic is truly unique amongst the rest of the Jellicle cats, she's usually supposed to be the most elegant amongst the bunch. You can find more information of her on her wiki.
I get a real kick out of the lyrics and movements. Every line references a cat throughout history, or describes a cat quality and of course everyone moves in a cat-like manner. Awesome, Pawsome, Clawsome!
@@tankunicorn134 It's the beginning number where the cats have not been introduced yet, and also, technically are not playing the same characters as of yet. By removing the most recognizable parts of the costumes, they're able to blend in more, so they can act as random cats in the tribe and then make a grand entrance later as their named character. Old Deuteronomy's actor is in there too but the shaggy coat is missing so he can be anonymous cat #3. This also makes the Jellical tribe look much bigger and fill the stage.
I’ll admit that, even as a fan of this musical, the story is a little odd. I saw the 2019 movie yesterday and it does this movie so bad they were better off just leaving Cats alone. There was a weird sexual energy the entire time, the cgi lead to their feet not always acting like they were on the ground, they were entirely too small for their sets, and they made Victoria (the white cat) more or less a stand-in for the audience and makes her experience every song. They also didn’t do the peaks and pollicle song, which as my favorite since it was done to enfersain Deuteronomy. But yeah, just a really awful movie that will give children nightmares
i use this song to appreciate all the background cats' voices and only that. seriously, coricopat and tantomile are amazing, cassandra is breathtaking, alonzo is sweet and charming.. it's all just perfect

You wanna know the irony of your statement? That's not the actual voice of Jemima's actress in the film. Her actual voice has a thick Dutch accent, and they dubbed over it with a British actress out of fear that said accent would make her unintelligible.

I'm obsessed with the musical because of the film. I was my whole life procrastinating watching the musical and the film finally pushed me to watch it. I wish I'd seen it when I was a child and decided to become a musical artist. The all look so beautiful in it. I wonder what the members of the original casts are doing nowadays.

The only reason this make up seems better than the movie is because you can clearly see it’s people trying to look like cats. In the movie thanks to CGI it’s literally cat-human hybrids which is freaking strange. Their mistake was making it too real.

The Cats musical is a concept play, its not supposed to have a lot of plot. Its just supposed to be a fun experience, so thats why the Cats movie failed so hard. It tried to adapt a musical that was all about the characters, their costumes, singing, and choreography.
it's not always about sleekness, even in this century. this looks so much more natural, especially with the big fur, colors, even the big hair. it looks so much more real even more so without clothing.
No clothing needed.
No *human* clothing anyway.
We are cats.
So, we just wear our own fur. 🐈

The lines before the shoe dropped they were singing fine, but afterwards they began to break into outright caterwauling as if to say: "Okay. You think that was _bad?_ Let's show you what bad _really_ sounds like."
It kind of reminds me of how in old cartoons and whenever some cats begin to sing or meow loudly, they'll get pelted by a boot.

I think it's because she was the one who touched grizzabella. The creator of the movie really didn't pay attention to the musical because anyone could have touched her and the musical would still work.
They should have done these props and make up. I mean look at them. These visuals are waaaay better than was in the new trailer of Cats.

I remember watching this version as a kid. Didn’t understand much English then, especially in song form, but still managed to capture the personality of every character and distinguish them all easily. Saw the movie version yesterday, being a fluent English speaker now - and couldn’t tell anyone apart except for like 5 main characters. The designs for stage production just work soooo much better.
The casting could not be better, everyone is so perfect.

I love the chorus scene bc every subtle movement shows every cat's personality so clearly.. alonzo munkerstrap tugger and misto's hand movements are so different and on character,(alonzo full of zest and confidence munk leaderlike tugger.....like tugger and misto genuinely happy)and the expression on each cat's face when the boot appears out of nowhere are so like them as well(rumpleteazer's eyes going round looking genuinely surprised&unbelievably cute mungojerrie surprised and amused at the same time cassandra jellylorum and demeter looking elegantly offended) that's why I love chorus scenes as well as duets and solos.. you can't take your eyes off any cat even if they aren't the only main character of the scene

This production, hands down, is perfect. Some things just shouldn’t be adapted into other formats. This musical in particular is best as live performance art. It's the beginning number where the cats have not been introduced yet, and also, technically are not playing the same characters as of yet.
By removing the most recognizable parts of the costumes, they're able to blend in more, so they can act as random cats in the tribe and then make a grand entrance later as their named character. Old Deuteronomy's actor is in there too but the shaggy coat is missing so he can be anonymous cat #3.
This also makes the Jellical tribe look much bigger and fill the stage.

I’ll admit that, even as a fan of this musical, the story is a little odd. I saw the 2019 movie yesterday and it does this movie so bad they were better off just leaving Cats alone. There was a weird sexual energy the entire time, the cgi lead to their feet not always acting like they were on the ground, they were entirely too small for their sets, and they made Victoria (the white cat) more or less a stand-in for the audience and makes her experience every song. They also didn’t do the peaks and pollicle song, which as my favorite since it was done to enfersain Deuteronomy.
But yeah, just a really awful movie that will give children nightmares

The only reason this make up seems better than the movie is because you can clearly see it’s people trying to look like cats. In the movie thanks to CGI it’s literally cat-human hybrids which is freaking strange. Their mistake was making it too real.
