Theres a difference between expressing one self through art and expressing ones self through words. His nervousness with interviews is probably why he is a musician. that's how he expresses himself..:)
All of Mars Volta seem like really nice people. I mean, in the Aberinkula web video, you wake up during surgery, and they offer you a blunt! Now THAT is a good surgeon.
yes, a pair of creative geniuses!! It is so great to see a pair of muscians so in tune to each other and still creating such innovative incredible music. . .
I just saw Mars Volta in concert last night and they were amazing, these words arent nearly enough to describe them. I was lucky enough to get close up, and they threw out guitar pics and drumsticks. I got one of their guitar pics, greatest concert ever!
Omar looks anxious in every interview, and I think he is anxious all the time...hahahaha.. but in every interview he's always spontaneous and so smart... and Cedric sometimes seems nervous too, but always very very sweet! I love this interview! Thanks whoever uploaded that!
I saw the first show of their Bedlam tour and i wish i had more money just to give it to them. Holy freaken Satanchrist. Best show ive ever been to. hands down.
i read an interview he and cedric did for an online magazine, and he said he'd stay in his basement selling and smoking drugs while writing music, and bought most of his early equipment with drug money. if anyone smokes anything other than pot, everything the drug is cut with crystalizes under the skin. that's why junkies always itch. even if he quit, that shit will be bugging him for a long time. watch the intervention with travis from days of the new, he was a wreck
"We get to make our records so we're happy, and that is all we care about, give us money and we make a record, if you wanna make a trailer or obsess on one little peice it's fine with us because people will come and see the film, and even if they walk out... We have your money!"
So do I... Every time I listen to that album I hear new sounds, it's really amazing. Alot of fans are asking for another De-Loused, I'm asking they make another Amputechture.
When they were in a band called "De Facto", they did a lot of Dub/Reggae style music. It's very different to the progressive-rock they're playing now, so a lot of TMV fans aren't necessarily into De Facto's stuff. Still, give it a listen if it sounds like your sort of thing.
Give us the money, we make our record... if you wanna make a trailer.. eh obsessed on one little piece it's fine with us 'cuz people will come see the film... and even if they walk out, we have your money. You guys rock so fucking hard! Exelent! :D
even if you walk out we have your money... LOL they are so dope!!! i love these guys they give you the feeling you could just kick it and blaze it together like they're your neighbors. i cant wait to see them this sunday!!
gahh, this is so good. you can tell that they really dont care what you think, its all personal, and i love that. hhaha"and even if they walk out...we have your money"
On the first question he answered it pretty much describes how the music industry owns all it's musicians and controls their material to fit whatever agenda they wish to emulate... Hence, forming the fresh minds of future generations...
When we like a band, its because we feel identified with them and we like what their songs represent in our way of seeing things...saying that they are "gods" and "geniuses" is our way of saying that we look up to our own interpretation of what their art means to us..."worshipping them" is a symbolic way of putting our beliefs into "higher standards", its not literally like we would kiss the ground they walk on. I know you feel the same way about something else, like God for example (maybe).
"See, I think drugs have done some *good* things for us, I really do. And if you don't believe drugs have done good things for us, do me a Favor: go home tonight and take all your albums, all your tapes, and all your cd's and burn em'. 'Cause you know what? The musicians who've made all that great music that's enhanced your lives throughout the years... Rrrrrrrrrrrrreal ------ high on drugs."
"what have you do for my appitite?" if you think about it. some one coming up with lyrics as crazy as TMV have got to put some serious thought into them.
Amen brother! and don't forget water, air, excercise and the human heart... except we'd also have to ban starvation, thirst, asphyxiation and lazyness. Actually Im just gonna smoke a huge joint, eat a bag of shrooms and listen to the BEDLAM IN GOLIATH. Cheers nyuccas.
Just FYI, TMV stopped using drugs. They probably still smoke a joint from time to time (more like all the time), but after close friend Jeremy Ward died they decided to stay away from opiads. TMV has never really been known for alcohol abuse either. So they're pretty much a drug free band these days.
The first Mars Volta bassist left. It was their sound technician Jeremy Ward (De Facto, cousin of ATDI guitarist, Jim Ward) that OD'd. Do your homework.
I agree to some extent, Tool fans are similar. On a different matter, just because someone drops out of state education doesn't always suggest low intelligence, more so a disillusionment with the schooling system.
If you think that The Mars Volta should stop doing drugs all together, think about this famous quote by Bill Hicks used by Tool in a song off of the CD AENIMA.
@Jason011987 1- They wrote it, they know it. 2- Thoughts can come out as words or emotion or music or images or.. need I go on? They just mean they don't force a song out for the hell of it. 3- What process is this? They're creative processes that can only be defined by the people employing them. We all create differently. And analogies exist. 4- They enjoy their music... 5- So? 6- If you have a product and that is the best way from which you can get means, you use it.
@jagerandweed can you please point us in the direction of the night you played more styles than tmv have played? what does playing to the hipsters mean? there are a lot of words in your comment but you don't seem to be saying too much.
yeah i don't giva damn what kinda pants they wear or what brand of hair gel. I just like the fusion of sounds they got goin. As for selling out, i downloaded all their shit... so much for that.
Omar doesn't contradict himself, it just seems like he has a hard time putting into words what he's thinking. Happens to a lot of people. Just because what he says doesn't immediately make sense to YOU, doesn't mean he doesn't have anything good to say.
everyone uses those pauses in speach/thought. for example like, uh, um, and my favorite ... i just love thes fucking guys. i dont know how i have come to love people iv never met... "and even if they walk out we have your money" i laughed so loud. its weird how it doesnt take intelligence to make art yet the better shit tends to be made by fairly intelligent people. and i think ced and omar are pretty sharp cats.
Pink Floyd??? I know that's one of their influences, but their sound is closer to that of King Crimson. I like At The Drive-In and The Mars Volta, but they're entirely different bands. If it was only about egos, then TMV would sound just like ATDI except with Cedric and Omar calling all the shots.
the reason they're acting like this is because thier on the henry rollins show. henry rollins was thier idols growing up when he was in black flag and they almost feel appeased at the fact that thier getting interviewed by him or he's watching them getting interviewed and thier so appauled at the fact that rollins in the same room and they probably feel akward cause this great hero to them is in the room at the moment
I don't think they care much if we think they are full of themselves =P. They could do an interview everyday and could care less about what we, the fans or haters, think about it.
I think that Omar is pretty perma-fried from the 10 year heroin and crack binge that he was on. He is very...VERY twitchy during this interview. He fiddles with his hands A LOT. Nonetheless, he is still one of my favorite prog rock guitarists.
@Jason011987 "The best musicians need no practise time & just sight read" i just find this funny. musicians who sight-read can BECAUSE they've practiced it continuously. if you're implying it helps make learning the parts easier, it definitely helps, but especially in rock music nowadays it's not a necessity. by the way, i think omar's a much better composer than a musician. he's a pretty sloppy guitarist & his leads suck sometimes, but i love his riffs. if you don't, whatever, you don't
sometimes drugs depending on how you take the effect, can influence you to be spiritual and more into yourself. It makes you be outside of this world and think outside of the box. It all just depends on the effect and the atmosphere around you. For example. If you decide to smoke weed or do heroin in a funny just joking around atmosphere you will just act silly. But if you do drugs in a calm atmosphere where you are actually concentrating more upon your work, the effects are different. Ice tried
"Even if they walk out, we have your money."
Lol, TMV is the shit!
Theres a difference between expressing one self through art and expressing ones self through words. His nervousness with interviews is probably why he is a musician. that's how he expresses himself..:)
Cedric sure does like slapping his right leg.
Who doesn’t
Omar and him have secret signals?
All of Mars Volta seem like really nice people.
I mean, in the Aberinkula web video, you wake up during surgery, and they offer you a blunt! Now THAT is a good surgeon.
This makes me sad how time flys by
yes, a pair of creative geniuses!! It is so great to see a pair of muscians so in tune to each other and still creating such innovative incredible music. . .
Cedric's voice is scary awesome, It's almost impossible to belief that the same guy here can hit those high notes you always hear in the live shows.
I just saw Mars Volta in concert last night and they were amazing, these words arent nearly enough to describe them. I was lucky enough to get close up, and they threw out guitar pics and drumsticks. I got one of their guitar pics, greatest concert ever!
Cedric mentioning Van Der Graff Generator, it all makes sense now.
Yes, it all makes sense now!
I love the in depth response and use of sources to back up your opinion.
i learn their songs and i could never get bored playing along..thier boredom is just testament to their genius.
Omar looks anxious in every interview, and I think he is anxious all the time...hahahaha.. but in every interview he's always spontaneous and so smart... and Cedric sometimes seems nervous too, but always very very sweet!
I love this interview! Thanks whoever uploaded that!
Rollins is a friend of theirs, henry even mentions omar and cedric on his radio show in a casual way.
I saw the first show of their Bedlam tour and i wish i had more money just to give it to them. Holy freaken Satanchrist. Best show ive ever been to. hands down.
Oh wow I did not know they were on the henry rollins show, mad respect to both.
omar looks so nervous in front of the camera, he reminds me of a friend of mine who never leaves his room
"Even if they walk out, we have their money"
I fucking love that line!!
But seriously, these guys are A-MAZING!!!!
it all comes down to wether you dig it or not.
I'm diggin it.
Y'know, I just noticed that these guys are damn good dressers
That's a really cool perspective on the music creation process - treating it like a movie that they really experiment with.
these 2 are a real find
Hahaha but when he said it his face and the way he said it was even funnier!
i read an interview he and cedric did for an online magazine, and he said he'd stay in his basement selling and smoking drugs while writing music, and bought most of his early equipment with drug money. if anyone smokes anything other than pot, everything the drug is cut with crystalizes under the skin. that's why junkies always itch.
even if he quit, that shit will be bugging him for a long time. watch the intervention with travis from days of the new, he was a wreck
I fucking love how they experiment and take there sound for what it is rather than aiming for a sound they just let it flow I fucking love it
"We get to make our records so we're happy, and that is all we care about, give us money and we make a record, if you wanna make a trailer or obsess on one little peice it's fine with us because people will come and see the film, and even if they walk out...

I read an interview a few years ago and one of them said King Crimson is a big influence
Give us the money, we make our record... if you wanna make a trailer.. eh obsessed on one little piece it's fine with us 'cuz people will come see the film... and even if they walk out, we have your money.
You guys rock so fucking hard! Exelent! :D
even if you walk out we have your money... LOL they are so dope!!!
i love these guys they give you the feeling you could just kick it and blaze it together like they're your neighbors. i cant wait to see them this sunday!!
hard to believe they're in their 30's
I like the end of the itw, when Omar compare radio edits to trailers.
cedric is the man!!
gahh, this is so good. you can tell that they really dont care what you think, its all personal, and i love that. hhaha"and even if they walk out...we have your money"
i love how nerdy Omar looks
On the first question he answered it pretty much describes how the music industry owns all it's musicians and controls their material to fit whatever agenda they wish to emulate... Hence, forming the fresh minds of future generations...

Thanks Bill Hicks
Tri eye
third eye
Here's Tom with the weather
Bill hicks was a woke individual. Before woke was even being a term so overused like nowadays:)
new "acoustic" record is hopefully going to be the best yet. im saying bedlam was a the beginning of a new era.
in all their interviews they always talk about analogies haha
Cedric has such a sweet voice 😍
hes so super new as far as TMV goes. but I cant wait to hear his words
That's awesome. . . nice to go deeper with this band for sure. Definately on the watch list!
BERNIE BURN-A-FAIR-BIT..
I think they're both just really anxious
SARCOPHAGUS
Did you have to spell check that? I would have
Xylitolitus
THANK YOU! I thought I was like, the only person that loved that album. Dare I go against the trend and say I like it just a bit more than De-loused ?
haha, they are pretty funny,
omar is such an oddball though.
Best band ever!
"... and even if they walk out, we have your money." lol
I am, I'm listening to the Mars Volta right now
I love Amputechture, way more than I do Bedlam and Octahedron (although they are still excellent albums).
Love the handle bars Cedric
brendon urie!!!! i love you!!!!
hahahahahaha
but kidding aside, i think tmv is the best band we have around.
"what have you do for my appitite?"
if you think about it. some one coming up with lyrics as crazy as TMV have got to put some serious thought into them.
Cheers nyuccas.
they are... i was at their 4/20 show...trust me...
Mars Volta, Opeth, Mastodon and Mew most be the best progbands in the world. The best ever in general!
Damn dude, I feel the social anxiety eminating from Omar here. I wonder if my own social anxiety is as noticeable.
LOL, I don't think they stopped using alcohol. Cedric was taking shots of Jaeger in between recording takes for their next album.
Just FYI, TMV stopped using drugs. They probably still smoke a joint from time to time (more like all the time), but after close friend Jeremy Ward died they decided to stay away from opiads. TMV has never really been known for alcohol abuse either. So they're pretty much a drug free band these days.
Right on.
The first Mars Volta bassist left. It was their sound technician Jeremy Ward (De Facto, cousin of ATDI guitarist, Jim Ward) that OD'd. Do your homework.
at least omar never lied about how the band would end
"...and even if they walk out, we have your money." haha.
how do you dub? you fight for dub. you plug dub in.
amazing cd by cedric and omar
I agree to some extent, Tool fans are similar. On a different matter, just because someone drops out of state education doesn't always suggest low intelligence, more so a disillusionment with the schooling system.
Omar is a nervous wreak in this interview. I mean sure Henry is a daunting figure, but a very friendly guy as well..,
He didn’t do the interview
@@Catjam77 Correct. It was Johnny Depp's stunt manager Tony Friggo.
@@paull.6026 he said later that he didn’t met the guy in that show, maybe johnny deep interviewed him, we’ll never now
i love their pants. whare can i buy a pair?
If you think that The Mars Volta should stop doing drugs all together, think about this famous quote by Bill Hicks used by Tool in a song off of the CD AENIMA.
philistine, abstract poetry is the best kind
Awesome stache cedric
That last comment by Omar is pretty funny
does any1 kno wen the juan alderete fender signature bass is coming out
100% agree.
@Jason011987
1- They wrote it, they know it.

yeah i don't giva damn what kinda pants they wear or what brand of hair gel. I just like the fusion of sounds they got goin. As for selling out, i downloaded all their shit... so much for that.
I find them like, really nervous here. But on-stage, totally the opposite. That's the effect of music.
its cool man.
is omar okay he looks so nervous lol
so where are your records at? id like to hear your stuff
whats with omar and his arm?
@xBillyTheKidx I know right? They're so amazing. :'( tears of joy.
when?
Omar doesn't contradict himself, it just seems like he has a hard time putting into words what he's thinking. Happens to a lot of people. Just because what he says doesn't immediately make sense to YOU, doesn't mean he doesn't have anything good to say.

Mars volta are fucking amazing, straight up! It doesnt matter what fuckin race they are!
Viva Mexico though

What the hell do they take before they go on stage?
britian? right, you got me there.
yeah your right, everyone portrays them to be gods but they're just human like you and me
I don't think they care much if we think they are full of themselves =P. They could do an interview everyday and could care less about what we, the fans or haters, think about it.
Omar is probably a genius. Look at how uncomfortable he looks.
I think that Omar is pretty perma-fried from the 10 year heroin and crack binge that he was on. He is very...VERY twitchy during this interview. He fiddles with his hands A LOT. Nonetheless, he is still one of my favorite prog rock guitarists.
@Nigel1792 There not on drugs they used to be but not anymore.Omar has said this in interviews he doesent even drink now
yeah they can def have all of my money, just as long as they keep making records.
@Jason011987 "The best musicians need no practise time & just sight read"
