For the off-roading talked about in the video, *torque* is much more important than horsepower (you want to slowly crawl up the giant hill, not accelerate on flat ground). Which actually sets it apart even more from all the combustion motors.

Great job explaining the drive train on my 4X4. I learned something today. About the Cyber Truck (Dual motor on order) , if I was rock climbing and wanted enough clearance to keep all the wheels on the ground without scratching the skid plate, but wanted to keep the centre of gravity as low as possible, I can see a sensor system that monitors the clearance and adjusts the suspension height on each wheel independently. Rock Crawling mode could be engaged at low speeds. How would you like that Sandy?
There is no sensor that can do that, plus the air system is not fast enough to compensate. When you are going over rocks the suspension is bouncing so the ride height is in constant fluctuation. A computer can not compensate. Your best bet to adjust the height yourself.
@@JasonWW2000 As a retired instrumentation tech, I can think of several sensors that could be candidates. Optical sensors/IR sensors, can detect an object that blocks a path in a straight line. If they were placed on the wheel mounts they could cross the belly pan/skid plate in an X pattern and left to right. For more coverage I would try a capacitive/inductive sensor that would use the entire skid plate as the sensing surface. As the sensor comes in proximity to a object, it provides an analog feedback that can be triggered. This would be less localized unless the skid plate was divided into multiple capacitive proximity sensors, perhaps one for each quadrant. And I did stipulate that it would be at slow speeds, I mean rock crawling slow speeds, so bouncing would be negated. Don't assume that because nobody is offering such a thing that it is not possible, especially for Tesla.
@@briansilver9652 I agree--this can be sensed and thus individual wheel heights controlled in real time. Please do get this to Elon and Sandy (pays to have a backup channel!) As a real time SW Engineer, this would be quite fun to work on, with Sandy doing the test driving!

Can’t wait to see these on the road one day, awesome videos Sandy keep up the good work. It’s great to hear more about your history of cars and driving experience too.
Ground clearance: I thought there was a second side to this. Vehicles with 16 or 18 inches of ground clearance are fantastic for off-road, but the trade off is potential instability on the highway. However the CT has the best of both worlds, since it can then "lower" the suspension on the pavement, to somewhere around 8 inches? Making it better than most "regular" trucks! It's gonna be good boys and girls :D

+1 on the Jam Handy films. I'm a Michigan guy and off roading for me isn't about steep climbs over boulders it's 2 track roads with sand and mudholes winding through dense forest. A Jeep with a winch is hard to beat. I have a deposit on a CT though.
Agree all. When I was a kid I did some time running rubber tire and tracked logging tractors. "Interesting" might be how Sandy would describe it in the mountains of British Columbia. Took a good driver to stay alive on a 15 ton tractor being pushed down a ski-type slope by 20 tons of logs on hard snow trails, then get the load stopped at a landing with a 30 meter sheer drop at the far edge.

Great work to you and your team. I’ve been learning so much since I’ve started watching your channel. I’m sure that the folks at Tesla are watching your channel to come up with an off road vehicle that will blow the competition away.
If you are really into off roading you'll have your fingers crossed for a smaller version, narrower and shorter wheelbase to fit down narrow tracks and go over steep tool over angle.
I‘m very impressed with the quality of that videos. Everthing is explained very good with words and pictures or animations. If you think that this channel is brand new und these guys don‘t had nothing to do with that kind of stuff. 5 stars from me guys!! I love that content.
The "Cyber truck" does not exist, what you saw on the show was most likely model X with uglier body panels. No data was provided about the power train, no data about the suspension, windows already failed the absurd claims, the concept vehicle has no mirrors, no wipers , no legal head and tail lights and its 5% bigger according to you know who! All this makes it a glorified golf cart. What Munro is talking to is in his fantasy! This is a badly disguised commercial meant to keep the fire on so someone can keep takeing deposits from as many fools as possible, untill they figure out how to produce something that kind of looks like what they showed. But keep dreaming.
Shikarasanirbud'dhi that’s a 90% fair assessment. This show is good but it would be better having the actual vehicle to prove its details. But part of any new product is preproduction hype. So before disqualifying the cybertruck outright, let’s be excited about the possibilities and patiently wait for it to hit the road.
Can't see out of it, can't tow with it on the highway, can't drive to locations where offroading would take place... why would any truck buyer ever want one?
Sandy, 1 thing you missed is the ground clearance may be 16" aired up all the way but thats the same in the middle of the cybertruck because of the battery pack is flat and it doesn't have any center ground clearance compared to all other trucks. It will get high centered on every waterbar and hump where all other trucks will driver over them just fine. Can you talk about this please...
Sandy, thanks for your knowledge and insight. I pick up my Model Y by the end of the month but am looking more forward to the Cybertruck - the more I see and hear about it. I did dual motor and tri motor reservations since I don't know which I will go with when it finally arrives. While I don't have plans to tow so the 300 mi+ range dual motor should suffice, who knows what changes in my future..perhaps I should splurge.
We will have to see how the new defender ends up doing off road. I believe it has independent suspension all around with air ride. Personally I’m not sold yet when compared to solid axles.
From the POV of a Farmer or Tradie, rough riding the landscape was an occasional necessity to be avoided if possible, determined by least-cost/highest-gain balance, to the general budget. But the tumble toy test is a gigantic plus for any owner, and it's good for the Y too. Impressive stuff altogether.
I live in this great neighborhood now with 2 Model 3s. There is a neighbor renting a few houses over, there is this huge F150 parked plus 3 leaking Jeeps. I'm not a truck guy, but for business purposes I have 3 Cybertrucks on reservation. I cant wait to parade my Cyberbeast by them, maybe go off roading with them one day. See how fast they will switch.
Once the Cybertruck is out we’ll need a show about implements like winches, snow plows and other goodies. Snow and ice handling will be what I want to know about.

Great work to you and your team. I’ve been learning so much since I’ve started watching your channel. I’m sure that the folks at Tesla are watching your channel to come up with an off road vehicle that will blow the competition away.
Nice one, Sandy, thanks! (Upgraded my pre-order to the 3-motor)
If you are really into off roading you'll have your fingers crossed for a smaller version, narrower and shorter wheelbase to fit down narrow tracks and go over steep tool over angle.
Roll*
I‘m very impressed with the quality of that videos. Everthing is explained very good with words and pictures or animations. If you think that this channel is brand new und these guys don‘t had nothing to do with that kind of stuff. 5 stars from me guys!! I love that content.
Cybertruck is already beating the competition and it’s not in production yet!
well yah, anyone can say their vehicle can do this or that, what matters is how itll actually preform after being on the market and in use for a while
The "Cyber truck" does not exist, what you saw on the show was most likely model X with uglier body panels.
@@4philipp This is a good point, totally agree.
This is a fantastic run down. Cybertruck is going to eat so many lunches.
SMR when mine arrives I will be eating 'Big Legacy' Auto's lunch.
I would have ordered the tri-motor if I had seen this presentation. I hope I can update the order before they deliver.
You can just email them.
Be sure to lock in the $7K FSD when you do. Imagine not needing a shuttle service when you use it to haul your canoe/kayak on a float trip. :-)
@@10fantic thanks, I will try that
@@danoberste8146 hell yes I ordered fsd
@@mikepetersen5024 me too.
15:14 / Sandy nailed it- the cyber truck is really a “orst” ... maybe pronounced “Erst” ? Here’s to the Tesla Cyber-Orst... Off Road Sport Truck :)
Fascinating! Very informative. Great teacher! My preorder is going through, a tri motor!
Gold! Sandy.....gold!!!!!
It’d be interesting to compare the 3 vehicles you have with the 2020 LR Defender- particularly in terms of off-road capability.
Just tossing this out there....
Does anyone think Sandy is into off roading at all?
xD hahaha
Glad to see that Arcimoto contacted you. Hope for some videos?
Absolutely! Just released one today and more on the way! ruclips.net/video/G8yV99P7Tx0/видео.html
Always a wealth of knowledge........
Love how u get excited about the instant HP.🤯
Once the Cybertruck is out we’ll need a show about implements like winches, snow plows and other goodies. Snow and ice handling will be what I want to know about.
Are we excited Sandy??!! LOL I've not seen you so pumped up! Now, it's time to loose the mask. You are in the building almost by yourself when videoing!
Watched all the ads so I can watch more videos like this...
I had a little Ford Truck ad pop up!
They’re gonna have to install a supercharger in Moab
And along the Rubicon trail lol
@@gergc4871 Pollock Pines might be perfect!
There is a Supercharger in Moab.
Keep em coming! Love these videos
Great video - loved it !!
I would like to see 4 motors directly to each weel, no drivetrain. Simple and robust. I only had two cars in my life, one CJ 1948 and one XJ 1997.
And I got "Endo" two times.😁
Endo that is a ride! and the Endo of that underwear.
Sandy thats why we were one the first UK firms that ordered the Cyber truck for our fleet.
Great explainer video!
Rivian approach/departure is 34/30. Breakover angle is 26. Max height is 14" (360mm).
Hi Sandy, great video and love the explanation. Can actually hear the excitement! However, please use a few LESS ADS, there has been WAY to many. 2 or max 3 would be okay in this 20 min video
I only had the one here in Uk, at 10 minutes, with the skip ad button activating at 5 seconds. Not premium account either. Sounds like advertising in US is out of control. No wonder Elon loathes it.
