I've ordered one of these as they seem totally reliable and very good value for money. I've had four spektrum dx6 transmitters fail in a year and a half. The first two failed on power up but were replaced under guarantee. The third one failed when I was flying my acro wot plane which came down and I never found it. The fourth one failed last night when I was flying a 450 size heli which hit me cutting my arm open and wrecking the heli. When I looked at the transmitter display it said 'System fault, your system has a hardware fault which prevents safe operation.' Needless to say I will no longer be trusting spektrum transmitters.
My first radio was also a spektrum and I had many failsafes and crashes. After wrecking about $1000 in gear due to the crappy radio, I trashed my spektrum and never looked back. I will never trust spektrum again... Never again.
My god, that is horrible. For the price you'd expect a very high quality radio that's built like a tank and lasts decades. But apparently not. I'll buy the OrangeRx tx10i because I like the grey transparent look and it has 10 channels instead of 6. Other than that it's the exact same radio down to the menu, but firmware has been tweaked to accept the extra channels.
I haven't use an OrangeRX Transmitter but I've been using OrangeRX Receivers for about a year now and at least out to 250 meters I've had no issues. Great for Parkjets!
I had an orange with orange receivers and had heaps of fail-safes. Tried other dsm based receivers and still had problems. I switched to Frsky and all those problems went away.
In my head, this is quite similar...well most the sounds and looks are similar to flysky. This could also mean people tinkering with the software like the flysky. Probs in a few months or years this thing can use all switches and stuff hahah. In all honesty i use a flysky i6 and this new transmitter actually looks like the flysky i6 with some of the mods on it (like timer, etc). Great video~ looking forward for more reviews and flights~
Really nice. Looks better than my FlySky FS-T6 (that only have 2 positions switches). 😊 But I still like and use it. The receivers are cheaper, so it's perfect for things like rc cars and boats that I make. 😊
My first radio 2 years ago was an orange RX... what a pile of 💩. My second radio was a FlySky i6s. Wore the Gimbels out in about 8 months flying 10-15 packs everyday. I wish I would have just listened to the pros and bought a frsky in the first place. I upgraded to M9 gimbals with Crossfire, sooo happy...😀
interman 77 first off there's a huge difference in quality between futuba and flysky. Hardcore enthusiasts would be offended that you even compare the two. The potentiometers in the FlySky are cheap and wore out in the middle, became a bit non-responsive at center stick after 10 to 15 batteries per day for 8 months. I dont doubt your futuba radio has lasted 15 years because they are much higher quality components that I'm sure you paid more than $66 for, which is what the FlySky cost.
interman 77 indeed!! I'm sure it will be fine for the occasional flyer but for the hardcore pilot that's out there flying 20 packs everyday I'm sure it won't last too long, you never know though... It all depends on the potentiometers in the gimbals.. I went with M9 gimbals in the taranis which are Hall sensors so it eliminates the potentiometer, one less thing to wear out.
My brother is interested in taking up RC Planes and doesn't have any equipment so I'm shopping around to advise him what to buy. I have a Spektrum DX8 which cost me AUD$486 but these days it's not necessary to pay that when something like this is available. This looks pretty nice and has similar features but I notice the battery system is different as I have replaced the 4.8v default battery in my DX8 with a suitable Lipo which lasts much longer and doesn't need recharging so often. Can the Orange RX TX6i convert to Lipo? I gather this Tx also comes with a instruction manual. Cheers boys.
bRandon -- yes, you are correct, it's very strange, but the only thing i can think of is that they design them all the same so that means they probably have a 10-channel or 14-channel version of this same exact radio but they just restrict use of the 10 and 14 channel versions in the 6 channel version which is what this video describes. please link the 10 and 14 versions of this orange radio or let me know what other receivers support the stabilizaton system called DSMX. thanks bro
Its an old thread but someone might read it. The switches can be assigned to anything in addition to extra channels. Throttle cut. Aileron, Elevator or Rudder rates. Retracts. Flaps, Trainer, or up to 6 different Mixes.
Can the tx6i be buddy boxed wirelessly with a Spektrum master, please? I watched horizon's video on wireless buddy's and it appears almost anything can be the student transmitter.
This one seems OK for park flying. I had issues with my DX6 a while back which is why I ended up switching to FrSky. I had failsafes with that radio flying 30 feet in front of me.
Albert Kim oh wow yea I've been testing my link with spektrum now that I have rssi and I'm interested to see the difference between my spek setup and a new frsky setup I'm putting together with a rxsr and qx7
I’m looking for a replacement radio for my DXe. Suggestions? Around the same price point, if possible. I have a turnigy evo as my main quad radio. I’m looking for a radio to do double duty as quad and planes.
it should, AS3X is just an abbreviation for spektrum's gyro stabilization system, Artificial Stabilization 3 Axis, it's done entirely within the receiver. That shouldn't really effect anything with the transmitter. DSMX is one of Spektrum's protocols for transmitting and receiving. The worst that can happen is that the radio isn't compatible with dsmx and only dsm2. In that case, the transmitter and receiver during the digital handshake portion of bind will decide to operate using the DSM2 protocol. However, the transmitter in the video is compatible with dsmx and dsm2, so it shouldn't be an issue.
I think mainly due to price, second due to lack of real telemetry. Horizon Hobby is US company so hard to compete with the chinese cloners. Ive flown spektrum for decades, works awesome and customer service is top-notch. Do wish it had rssi, but thats about it! Seems like many won't be happy until they cost $50......then it'll be another crappy flysky type transmitter.....plenty of those around already.
Canyon Racer totally agree. There is supposed to be a way to get spectrum rssi into betaflight osd. But I don't know how. I dont mind paying $200 dollars for a good transmitter either.
@@HornetFPV I see your reaction was placed a year ago. Beside off that I would really like to tell my experience with the spectrum transmitters. About 3 years ago I decided to buy a trex 250 helicopter and a Spectrum dx6i because a friend of my told me I had enough with this transmitter. It's a solid transmitter with enough features which you can find in a clear menu. Used it every in combination with Phoenix flightsim and the trex. After a year I decided to buy a racedrone and a flysky i6 transmitter. Ofcourse I couldn't resist myself to test this transmitter. The sticks feels sloppy and the steering is not so precise as a Spektrum. Ofcourse there's a price difference between those two, but money is a bad argumentation to choose a flysky orangex or simulator radio's and saying Spektrum isn't that good for the money. Cause of the fact I am building a Mustang p51d from great planes I'm using a Dx8 now, otherwise I cant use the flaps and retracts, dual ailerons et cetera because of a short of channels with the dx6i. I can even feel the difference between the dx6i and the dx8. The steering is more direct and precisely and it gives me the feeling I own the plane instead of controlling it! A good radio doesn't cost money, it an investment and makes a difference between controlling it or crashing it. It's everybody's choice to buy something where he or she feels good with, with all the respect, I'll stick with Spektrum or Futaba and simular brands.
I have read the Video Description, but I own 10+ Spektrum Receivers and just wanted to be sure that this Transmitter is working with ORIGINAL Spektrum Receivers
Short answer is yes it works. It's like how different phone manufacturers can use android system. It's just a set of code that allows the hardware to talk. If it says DSM2 OR DSMX it works.
That is a spektrum protocol knock off. Its not a spektrum!!!! Its a orange, wich i have already been warned about the orange recievers. I use spektrum dx6 and dx9 with spm4648 and spm4649t recievers and have very little problems. Those are junk....

Why do these transmitters have all these switches but you can only use a few.
LOL
Brandon Purdy For options and choice really. Maybe I like my switches on the left and you like them on the right, or the opposite.

I might get one of these so I can use more compact rx’s.
Can I use a spektrum as trainer with this orangerx?
Can I connect the orange rx wired to pc for simulating programs?

range compared to spectrum? of course I just upgraded from an old dx6i to a new dx6

Scott Shaler same here been using spektrum since around 07 no probs
does it work with AR8010T???
So this will bind to a spectrum receiver?
yes
Albert Kim thank you
Back from vacation and 1st! lol 😂 great review!

This one works great for planes and quads and is only $60 - amzn.to/2KiJszw
How does it connect up to Phoenix RC sim? I have a specktrum dx7 broken and it has a mini plug to connect USB
I'm not sure it can. I don't have this anymore. Already gave it away a long time ago
Looks like a good radio!
Hi Albert Kim, so this would work for horizon hobby umx bind and fly right?
No mine didn't for a umx radian glider...waste of money.
Will this transmitter work fine with a Spektrum DSMX AS3X reciver? Thank you.

Why does everyone hate on spectrum. I get more than enough range with it. 3500ft comfortably. And they make solid transmitters.

OMG I ALSO REALIZED since theres a Flysky version of Spektrum now for DSMX. Hope people make a Frsky version of flyksy hahah
a tip : you can watch movies on flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching all kinds of movies recently.
@Francis Cash definitely, I have been watching on Flixzone} for months myself :D

any dsmx/dsm2 receiver should be compatible, as long as the protocol is the same.

Yes, technically speaking DSM2 and DSMX compatible.
