    Wonderful to see the guys still getting on so well and having such a laugh. Also thanks to the AW man for not butting in and just letting them talk. Legends!

    Seen these guys chatting before but their recollections never get old. 30 years on and their bond is as strong as ever. A remarkable performance that I never get tired of watching.

    I remember the summer of 91 and watching the race. I ran the 4x4 for my club and we decided to copy the strategy. I still remember every stride of that race, that we all ran. I ran the anchor, and 30 years on, it's still the club record. What they did that day will always be special to me, because of how it helped me and my friends.

    Thanks for posting!
    I've followed athletics avidly since the early 1960's, and this 1991 relay stands out as the most memorable team performance ever by a British quartet! But I have to say that, while the decision to put Black on the opening leg may have been inspired, it was the crucial anchor leg by the effervescent Kriss Akabusi that lingers in the memory - and, whatever is said, it is always the anchor leg which delivers success or failure. It was Akabusi's focus and determination which won teh day, and the Gold Medal. Underlined by the fact that the World Champion came back at him in the final few metres yet Akabusi held him off. Brilliant story.

    These are some of the very best 400m runners in the history of athletics! Living legends! I think they have inspired many generations of British 400m runners. Bravo!

    When they won I felt like I’d won the jackpot on the national lottery. 😂 Jumping for joy, I just went nuts. I can remember Brendon saying something about keeping this top secret from the Americans, hinting at the guys going for Gold. I didn’t doubt their ability, I just hoped they do it and win the gold and they did. WOO HOO! One of the best moments in British Athletics ever. 😁

    What I noticed on watching the race again was Derek Redmond running on the very inside of his lane until they broke, then forcing the American to run in Lane 2 over the final bend. That extra distance might have just made the difference.

    What Roger says around 9 mins is the reason we are watching this vid, 32 years later, there was something different about you four, you could just tell.

    Roger has seemed to have forgotten 1997 when GB won the gold medal when the USA were disqualified, plus GB nearly beat them on the track as well. Plus speaking of Michael Johnson, I wonder if he secretly felt smug when the USA lost without him? 😂

  • @adellittle3547
    @adellittle3547 2 года назад +1

    I think the Americans own self importance played a part in this too. Sorry Americans. They hadn’t been beaten in decades, they seemed to look down on all the other teams. They were the best in the world in the 400 metres and 4x400 metres at that time but this time it all back fired on them. It’s a David and Goliath Story. Never underestimate your opponents.

    Yo awesome video... Black people usually age better then white people but Roger is looking as youthful as ever.... Must be something to do with his name 😉😅

      It depends on diet, lifestyle, skin care. Black people who eat and drink crap and don't look after themselves also look like shit. Athletes generally look young. I saw Allan Wells a few years ago: he was in his 60s but looked in his 40s.
