- For some time now there has been discussions about a possible NASCAR street course race happening and one of the top candidates if not THE top candidate was Chicago. This would be a huge deal for NASCAR if they could land it as Chicago is one of the biggest markets on Earth. There is an intriguing question to be answered here. Do you want to see a NASCAR street race in Chicago? Or anywhere for that matter?
YES!!! LETS MAKE IT HAPPEN!
I say let’s a street race. It’s worth giving a shot.
Also I have a video suggestion can you do a vid where can a downtown race/race in New York City, New York or in LA will help NASCAR in the long term? Please and thank you have a great day
What happened to the podcast last night I thought the NASCAR weekly podcast is on Wednesday why wasn't it on last night
I would rather them race at Chicagoland Speedway, the best 1.5 mile track we currently have.
On the other hand, I would love to see them do street course racing. Hell, send them to Illinois twice a year!
The NASCAR Version of Monaco
nothing like Chicagos yacht and car culture
@@ryandowning2956 I know your joking, but their boating culture is pretty cool and their car culture is also pretty big.
@@codymifsud2448 yeah
It would work quite nice how ever if there was a pile up, it would block up the track, basically The new Monaco except it’s not F1
If that’s their version of Monaco.
Street Course in Miami would be like race on Gold Coast in Australia was for IndyCar and is for Supercar V8s.
@@SilentDanDisney but the only option for a true Monaco like race that an American series can do is a race in the Miami or Long Beach area? That would be so fun to watch. Also could do aurond kitty hawk NC.
Whoever’s car comes out with the least bullet holes wins

From a Missouri native, the bit about midwestern weather being flat out stupid is very accurate😂
If NASCAR is literally promoting an iRacing event on billboards in Chicago, I’m pretty sure it’s something that’s gonna happen...
As much as I would love to see this the logistics are going to be a nightmare. I don't think this is going to happen since you are going to have to move all kinds of safer barriers and other things of that nature in such a densely populated, crowded area.
@@aperson8414 You ever heard of Formula E?
@@Evarakeus Formula E can work with a much smaller space than other series. NASCAR would require twice the garage space and a wider track than any other series. Not to mention Formula E isn't set up for a bunch of spectators; its mostly just suits that attend those races. It's really comparing an apple to a vegetable.
@@aperson8414 Yeah you don't necessarily need SAFER barriers with the speeds being lower, and there are normally tire barriers and runoff. But yeah I agree, it just doesn't work logistically. With the size of a NASCAR grid, you need twice the pit lane and garage space that other series need just to run Cup. Plus it isn't as simple as just saying you want to go there, they have to want you to. IndyCar has looked at a street race in Chicago for a long time, and if they can't find a way to make it work with all of their street course experience I really don't think this would be remotely practical for NASCAR to jump in to.
There is very little parking in Chicago. Fans will not only pay a premium price for the race tickets themselves, but then add parking costs which can be very high, because parking is such a premium. Add security and crime issues as well. Fans will not be safe walking in and around Chicago.
If Nascar wants to come back, There's a large empty stadium not too far away in Bridgeview that used to have the Chicago Fire in it, but they moved to Soldier Field now, so its vacant. Tear that down and build a short track there. That will get fans packed into it and make another great short track to add to the schedule
Heck you can shoehorn a short track into part of the existing stadium, be a bit like F1s Mexico city track were they used an old baseball stadium as part of the track.
The reason they left that venue is because it's in a shitty location.
Watch James Davison win in Chicago irl in Rick Ware Racing Equipment

"Big Market, New Fans"
Meanwhile North Wilksboro continues to rot and the old southern fans watch football on the weekends instead.
Yeah NASCAR should follow IndyCar's example of trying to rebuild its existing fanbase in its established markets before trying to go to new grounds.
Some people visiting Chicago: That structure is beautiful! Such a nice piece of ingenuity and art!
People from Illinois: Fuck this giant chrome bean
Just go back and visit Chicagoland once a year.
Once again, I'm glad that someone other than me would like to see Chicagoland return because I still hate how it got taken off the schedule this year and what I hate about that is if the truck series can go to Gateway, why can't the sport go to Chicagoland? Until then, goodbye!
NASCAR would probably have an easier time making Chicagoland Speedway a short track
I personally would rather stay as a mile and a half because it puts on good racing I mean the rules package right now doesn't really show that off
Well, bud, I still hate that Chicagoland got taken off the schedule and I still say that if the schedule for this year was up to me, I would have done everything in my power to keep Chicagoland on the schedule.
@@ethanwhisman5459 Well, Ethan, I agree with you about the good racing at Chicagoland especially if you look back at the races from 2018 and 2019 and I still say that if the schedule for this season was up to me, I would have done everything in my power to keep Chicagoland on the schedule. Until then, goodbye!
@@ethanwhisman5459 Regardless the track would have needed a repave soon so if it does return someday then it's gonna be like autoclub and converted into a short track.
I don't understand why NASCAR doesn't just use the Belle Isle street course that IndyCar uses. The track is already on iRacing too. Detroit has way more of a car/racing pedigree than Chicago and is SUPER fun to drive on in the sim. It's crazy bumpy, really tight and has varying, complex turns that would make for an American equivalent of the great Bathurst 1000 with stock cars racing on a track that is barely 2 lanes wide and has really fast flowing, blind turns.
No but I do see a race around the St Louis area at the Gateway track that NASCAR truck used to race at for a new race potential. I mean ARCA races there or did until recently.
Yes. I do too. The Truck Series is racing at Gateway on August 20th. ARCA last raced at Gateway in 2020.
I definitely see Cup going to Gateway in ‘22 with the Truck Series weekend
@@mckeeboys8929 It would make sense and replace the Chicago race.
Casey smith what do you mean by replace the Chicago race?
2:31 this is legitimately the only Thing people talk about Chicago. Sears tower you get a pass. Sure it’s cool and all but it’s just a bean. Btw this coming from a Chicagoan so ye.
On that note we also have one of the biggest Starbucks in the world. Speaking of food Mcdonalds has their world headquarters in Chicago
Just go back to Chicagoland. Run the Seattle street circuit from gran Turismo. Win-win there. Reschedule the Chicagoland race to a date where it doesn’t conflict with the Bears. NASCAR shouldn’t force change when it isn’t necessary. Chicago already has a track and there are better markets that nascar actually *has* to break into
Exactly. NASCAR shouldn't have jumped the gun and pulled the plug on Chicagoland because I still hate the decision to remove it from the schedule. Also, here's a question I want to ask you: If the truck series could return to Gateway this year, why can't the sport return to Chicagoland? Plus, I still say that if the schedule for this year was up to me, I would have done everything in my power to keep Chicagoland on the schedule. Until then, goodbye!

If there's a place that should have a street race for NASCAR, this place should be Vegas.
I live in Chicago and I enjoyed watching the iracing event. Super cool seeing cup cars along streets I drive everyday. but the entire time watching I was thinking of how inconvenient it would be as a resident
Road America is only a few hours from chi-town though, up in Elkhart Lake
Just turn Arlington Park Racecourse (the horse track near Arlington Heights) into a NASCAR track. It worked with Dover.
I've heard worse ideas for sure.
i will absolutely go to this. gonna take the metra in to oglevie train station. like a 20 minute or less walk from the track location
1.Chicago is too crowded, so the logistics would be a nightmare.
2. The likelihood of getting robbed, assaulted, shot and/or killed is a reality for the fans.
3. Street racing is for open wheel IMO.
4. I like road courses and street races, but NASCAR will be heading towards overboard if they keep adding them (like they did with the cookie cutter 1.5 mile tracks in the late 90s/early 2000s).
For the parking issue, under grant park there is a massive 6 story parking garage.
And it's not like you need as much parking anymore as attendance levels are 40% of what they were when a lot of these tracks were built, a lot of them now have excess land.
"you better win"
Iceberg man, the Cubs did a 100 years of losing and are still in that town. You can lose, only as long as youre marketable
New York Road Race like in NASCAR Thunder 2004-09

@@jabber1990 Never played that game so I'm not sure what you mean.
@@redzeppelin6 ruclips.net/video/_L17gw0evIk/видео.html
I'm very skeptical this would be a good idea for NASCAR to pursue. Street courses are almost always boring single file parades. Even Indy cars and F1, which are much better suited to road racing, struggle to put on a decent show. This years Monaco GP had exactly ONE pass for position on track when the 20th place car forced its way into 19th. There are plenty of permanent tracks that could put on a good race without the logistical nightmare of a major city street race.
Back in the day (1956), NASCAR raced around Soldier Field. Seriously, go look that up. Talk about Lost Speedways. That one is in plain sight. :)
The only way NASCAR is going to race on the streets of Chicago in my view is if other series specifically Formula E or Indycar hold races there first to see if locals are drawn to street races along with tourists. If these other series draw huge crowds in Chicago to their races, then I could see NASCAR joining them. If these races are a flop when it comes to attendance, then NASCAR should focus on other cities for a street race and on their road course/short track product.
The "fans stuck in the infield" argument is pretty weak, I was at St. Pete Last year and there were temp bridges everywhere. Love your other points though and your catalog of stellar content 👌
also there's literally a subway station inside the track in this case XD
@@Anthony_Stuart bro his "negative points" are not strong.... 1.Space: Have you seen Monaco? 2. Track Width: the Narrow-ness is apart of the challenge, have seen Macau? 3. Handling Attendees: Chitown is a metropolitan city they will figure it out, some people well have to use public transportation... 4. Security: Formula E has a race in Brooklyn, thats all I have to say.
@@jonharney6007 macau is my spirit animal
@@jonharney6007 1 and 2. Have you ever actually SEEN a Nascar race? If so, I'd hope you wouldn't be such a bumbling idiot to not realize that The cars raced in Nascar are significantly larger, heavier, and have a significantly worse aero package than open-wheeled race cars like the ones you're referring to. 3. The argument that "they'll figure it out" just shows how dusty and rusted the gears in your thick noggin are. Someone has to "figure that out" and it takes time and money that could be better spent on the tracks we already have as opposed to trying to add new ones. Telling people they "have" to use public transportation is fine and good, but they don't have to do that. They can choose not to go and not fund Nascar with their ticket sales, and if that's the case Nascar will not be at Chicago for very long. 4. More bullshit like your first and second "arguments" that makes absolutely no fucking sense. I loved Chicagoland Speedway, I want Nascar in Illinois, and I want a Chicago road course, but God damn your thinking is so narrow-minded and weak that it makes me realize how unlikely it is that a track like this would end up consistently on Nascar's schedule.
I mean, the Southwest Tour used a street circuit in LA around the Coliseum around the turn of the century.... (The circuit around the Tacoma Dome, on the other hand...some temporary alterations to transit [rerouting of several bus routes, temporary halting of light rail and commuter rail] would be needed....)
12:10 SNOW TIRES LFG
No... bring back the speedway
Hell to the yeah!
I've said this before and I'll say it again. NASCAR is going to try and be the stock car version of IndyCar. A schedule full of road and street courses with ovals sprinkled in.
The Officials of NASCAR are trying to be some kind of paved rally style stock car racing. NASCAR officials already have an almost rally stage format, then they are doing more and more road tracks and a road oval race.
@@caseysmith544 lmao if you think that nascar stages are anything like rally stages you’re goofy. I agree they are dumb in nascar but they are nothing like rally
I hope it happens, it would be cool if NASCAR went to Long Beach as well.
The one issue that needs to be considered and one that makes this story an impossibility is you only get about 4 good months of summer weather in Chicago, mid May to early September. Chicago would have to shut down large portions of it's ridiculously popular lakefront areas for a week to engineer this event. I can guarantee you the overall public in Chicago want nothing to do with this.
Inclined to agree. The logistics just have to be a nightmare and tremendously expensive-in a city where the average resident is, at best, apathetic to the sport.
Also, I think there are big unknowns around how good the racing will be. A city course is not the same as a purpose-built road coarse. And there is a big difference between 20 open-wheel and 40 stock cars racing around tight city roads. The last thing we’d want is for this to be an expensive fiasco.
As others said, cut your teeth on an established city course first.
And it comes with dodging bullets
It's not in the Southside
They should do a Married with Children episode based on this!
What if NASCAR used an already established street course, such as Long Beach or St. Petersburg? I did NASCAR racing at Long Beach in Forza Motoraport 7... it was pretty fun.
They would most likely take the term "he really dodged a bullet there!" literally...
If NASCAR wants to test the waters of Street Circuits, they could always do a double header alongside Indy at Detroit. The grandstands are already there, the circuit has already been mapped out, etc.
I'd like to see NASCAR take on a street course in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. It could open the market for more fans in the area, myself included. It could have a lot more revenue on hand for a small area. And I'd like to have it run sometime in mid to late March.
But like you said, there is also stuff to consider when regarding the costs, neighborhoods, seating, security, and weather. But hey, it's West Nebraska. Occupational hazard.
NASCAR needs a lot more space to make a competitive street circuit than an openwheel car, plus there's a crap ton of city level politics in play. If IndyCar can't make it work there's no way NASCAR can, especially if they think they'll be able to go just straight into downtown Chicago.
If it's run around Grant Park like last night, security isn't an issue. Tons of space and is accustomed to LARGE events.
If nascar wants to come to Illinois they should come down to central or southern Illinois. Chicago people ain’t going to care about nascar but folks down here love it.
Downtown Chicago is pretty safe. Lollapalooza happens at basically the exact same area every year and no one gets shot that I know of.
As for parking, could they park at Soldier Field? It's a pretty good walk.
Not to mention this would have public transit options so you could park in the suburbs and take METRA or the El into downtown.
The way he brushed past the White Sox hurt so…. so so so bad
I lived in the city for years and never had an issue with violence. That's literally all past the subway stops beyond the redline.
there were 12 murders and 42 injuries from violence in one weekend alone in chicago only a few weeks ago. It's just another democrat shitpit
@@smudent2010 Houston and Dallas have the same issue and they are run by Republicans. Chicago historically has also been run by Republicans the same crime existed then too. Major cities have high populations therefore just statistically have more crime. The city of Chicago wants to hire people to help them stay away from crime. Crime is a poverty problem. Not a political one. Also the crime in Chicago is in an area nowhere near where tourists go. I'd rather be in Chicago than in the deep south surrounded by the surrender flag of treason and incest that represents the Confederacy.
@@smudent2010 When clueless backwoods people comment on a city they won't be able to find on a blank map 😂
Chicago doesn't need it. It's just far too populated for diehard NASCAR fans to navigate. No one will go fearing the traffic and parking problems. How about a street race in Louisville Kentucky. We have a loyal fan base that really misses Kentucky Speedway. They could use Cardinal Stadium it has a massive amount of land and parking. Or They could use the Six Flags / Freedom Hall area.
I wonder how the people of Chicago feel about NASCAR in their city?
Probably not good since they are a bunch of hippies and this sport isnt environmentally friendly.
@@ThRifTeDmUsIc chicagoans arent hippies, they just havent learned that nascar isnt racist yet and that its not useless

as someone who lives less than 30 minutes away from Chicagoland speedway, I wouldn’t be mad if they ran a Chicago street course in real life, but there’s one big problem... *t r a f f i c*
The city itself would be flooded with traffic everywhere before, during, and after the race
however i would love to go see a race at this street course if it actually happened
The area they plan to take up is always flooded with traffic, this will be 10x worse
On race day, they can run traffic out one direction by closing off certain streets.
@@easyenetwork2023 you must not be from chicago, that shit aint gone fly
@@mauricebarry8858 Why not? If it cuts down on race traffic after the race, they might like it. Plus, I don’t think there would be a lot of traffic besides race fans unless there is a ballgame going on that day as well. That is a way to control traffic flow after the race though.
@@easyenetwork2023 no no, where they are racing is one of the most crowded areas in chicago. You cant just redirect traffic..
While watching this, I remember going to IndyCar’s final year in Houston. They used the NRG Park’s. Parking lot as its course. Sadly they took it off the schedule after Dario Franchitti’s crash. To this day though, you can catch a glimpse of all the catch fencing and the barriers used for the races just laying on fence in front of IH610. I honestly think Houston also has the possibility of getting a street course.
The thing that made IndyCar not work out there, and you can give me your first hand feedback on this, was getting fans to sit in those metal grandstands on a hot Texas summers day?

Love the concept, but put street races in areas that have their own pests to deal with as a dissuasion (Long Beach, Miami, etc), now back to the Chicago thing, it better not be a substitute for the speedway that they abandoned in the same area
It's a matter of when than if

This race would be a huge event. The Monaco of America. It may be a tough start but Chicago likes to host big events and people love going out in the summer to do stuff. It would absolutely work I think.
So as somebody who follows IndyCar closely, and as somebody who has a lot of first hand experience with the Detroit GP, here's what you aren't thinking about. NASCAR requires a lot more space to hold an event on the streets than other forms of racing. They have almost twice the grid size, which means they need a bigger pit road and more garage space than anybody else. A garage isn't something that an iRacing track has to think about, and setting up 40 cars on top of a public park area is gonna be a fight as far as the environmental impact as well as access to the park. Plus you have weeks of setup and take down that will impact transit and access to local businesses, so there's a lot of politics here too. A lot more goes into street racing than just the want, because it isnt like you're just going, setting up for 3 days, and having no impact beyond that. Just for context, with the Nashville Fairgrounds all the people against it really had to complain about was noise coming from the track. Not only is there WAY more noise in a city, but also all these other things that have to be worked out.
If Chicago can handle the NFL Draft back to back years (2015 & 2016) & Lollapalooza (every year) in the exact location/area as the "propose" street course I don't see why they would have a problem
What's Lollapalooza?
@@niktherabbit6747 A music festival in Chicago en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lollapalooza
Man, my dad used to get free tickets to Chicagoland from a bar owner and that was my nascar experience. I would love to have a race in Illinois again, especially one less than an hour away from my house. Too bad the infrastructure in the area was doo-doo dogshit and made getting to and from the track kind of a nightmare.
Why is the Chicagoland track no longer being used?
"Illinois sucks" Amen brother!
Great video! This idea looks good on paper but will not work in real life. The city residents will want nothing to do with this!
Look at both the Gold Coast 600 and Sydney 500 Supercars races as how street races should be run
If NASCAR wants a city circuit. They should look into Cleveland, Ohio. We used to host the Grand Prix of Cleveland with Indy cars and used Burke Lakefront airport for the circuit. Lake Erie on one side and the city skyline on the other. We are also very dedicated to our local sports, especially the Browns and Indians. Traffic wouldn’t be an issue, plenty of room, and noise wouldn’t be much of a problem neither. Another thing to consider is that Ford and Chevy have factories here. Ford has the ecoboost plant, GM has a stamping plant. Cleveland is currently booming and much cleaner than it was years ago. We hosted many events including the recent NFL Draft during the pandemic.
As a Clevelander myself, the Game 7 footage still hurts. Thanks Iceburg lol
If this happens and the pace car isn’t a Ferrari driven by Matthew Broderick, I’ll be very disappointed.
I’ll do one better.
Bill Murray.
Walk bridges can easily be installed I’ve the track. They need to attend Long Beach and st. Pete and get a feel for it. You should see the haulers at St. Pete, pretty incredible what you can squeeze those massive things into ha.
Not worried about parking. Chicago's public transit is great.
as a native myself, if the race is downtown, i don't think the other sports teams will be as big a factor. with this track layout, the bears cant really play because the track is right next to it. The haulers will be fine. the interstate goes right into grant park which has 10 lane roads on all sides. there's a train station right there and the public transit is robust enough to mitigate the parking issue. as for narrow track, as stated earlier, the streets around grant park are surprisingly wide. i do agree, Illinois does suck ass. that being said, i sooo hope this happens, but i agree, too many logistics nightmares to shut down that part of the city for a whole weekend plus however long it takes to build up the track.
‘Ahem’ FOCUS ON NORTH WILKESBORO THATS WHAT FANS WANT
as somebody like me that is from Illinois but lives in missouri since 2015 i can confirm illinois does suck
If the city of Chicago let them scan the track, Chicagoland's social media promoted this event, billboards for this exact event were shown in Chicago, iRacing finished this course in time for the event, and NASCAR choosing to do a street course of Chicago of all things for an iRacing event instead of an established track.
Then yeah I can see them doing it in a few years
What my gut told me.
No way, their would be a few drivers carjacked, 5 or six shot dead, and I'm sure a few kids catching stray bullets.
I saw billboards in Chicago advertising the iRacing event. Something's gonna happen. As someone in Chicago, most Chicagoans are shocked I watch NASCAR so I don't really see the city folk coming to this race unless the Cubs aren't playing and they wanna try something new haha. All the NASCAR fans are in the far far suburbs/country surrounding Chicago. Basically, Chicagoland speedway in Joliet was the best spot for a track in the area. Now all the country folk gotta go all the way to the city. Idk, the F1 event in Chicago was pretty crowded. Perhaps a NASCAR street race could draw some eyes.
I’d rather see a race at Mid Ohio.
NASCAR: Get outta here Chicago we don’t need you anymore!
Chicago: o-oh ok 😔
NASCAR: Nah just kidding come on back!
But they would go to Chicago twice in one season because they go to Chicagoland Speedway which is in Chicago so they would go there twice,
Plus it would be like that Chicago Pier in NASCAR 09
Actually no they are closing Chicagoland, never mind
@@nascargamer9544 yeah they didn't go to Chicagoland this year.
@@GenuineRage yeah,
I changed my mind as I realised that they don’t go there

I don't know about Chicago but I could 100% see a race at Sebring next year
They can't even have a safe rain or dirt race, what makes them want to jump to a street course?
Maybe if nascar could try take a formula e approach to racing for big cities. Formula e races only on road tracks. Similarly f1 has a few street races, and just added a new Miami one. So potential looking at how they do it or picking similar track layouts/ locations
Iceberg, you are so right that Illinois sucks. I also live in northern Illinois close to Chicago and I hate it here.
Nascar should probably start with a street course in an already established market like Miami, Atlanta, or Houston. They can bring what they learn from that to Chicago or nyc or some bigger city up north.
Yes, they run road course in Detroit. The grand prix
I would like to see it if it’s good will be interesting but one thing I would like is if we went to a established street course so we know the cars race good or bad and not a matter of the track
Long Beach, NRG Park, St. Pete, Burke Lakefront Airport
Imo the only way to know that is if we have practice there and if chicago is will to do this idea
I know downtown Chicago fairly well. I can't imagine where a route for this could happen. I think you said that the mayor has surveyed the potential route, but you didn't share it in the video.
you know NASCAR is in trouble when the video game crowd outnumber the actual crowd that goes and sees a race.
Plus the fact that Chicago mayor beetle juice I don't think has much of a taste for NASCAR fans lol
I think they could if it a try then if it doesn't work out then that is fine there are other mayor city that could probably work better like maybe Saint Louis or kanas city or maybe even a small city like springfield Mo. I do think it can work in NASCAR it just has to be in the right location
The only thing I would be concerned about is the crashes and the barriers. How would they hold up if let's say, someone flips over and goes into the fence?
Within ten years the only televised races will be the 500, talladega and the coke 600. Maybe the championship race. I guarantee it.
They already are! I stopped watching a couple years ago!
I live in the Chicago Suburbs and I would KILL for a Chicago street course
I just wanted to tell you I love your videos and I want you to keep up the good work,
I get very happy every time you post a video😃
Call it the windy 500
Nascar should try the st. Pete street course
It may not be much of a market (you never know), but my hometown in New Orleans needs a NASCAR race. Come on, you know NASCAR fans like to get their drink on. Letting them go to town in the French Quarter and Bourbon street would be the second coming of christ for them. Additionally, New Orleans needs more sports. The retirement of Drew Brees and the lack of other good sports teams would probably see thousands flocking to the Crescent City to see that thunder roaring from the streets as well as the crowd.
I hope not, the street races I've watched are narrow and basically very hard to impossible to pass on. They are basically high speed parades, go back to Chicgoland Speedway and give the Gen 7 car a chance on the mile and a halfs, the racing may be very good.
Have you ever watched the Adelaide 500 or the Gold Coast races?
I agree about Chicagoland because NASCAR shouldn't have removed it from the schedule and I still can't understand why the truck series can return to Gateway, but the sport can't return to Chicagoland. All-in-all, in the end, my answer to a street course is a big fat thumbs down, so until then, goodbye!
