Oh yeah ! Iron Maiden is the top of the English Rock tree for straight ahead Rock Music :) They did have another singer which has been mentioned (Paul Di'Anno) Bruce Dickinson is a very talented guy ,not only is he a Rock Singer but he is a Qualified Airline Pilot who has flown for commercial Airline companies ,he even fly's Iron Maidens own chartered tour Airline 'Ed Force One' and he was an Olympic Fencing Medallist .He has won two World Championship silver medals (1998, 1999) and two European bronze medals (1995, 1997) and was 5th in the 2000 Olympics. Another of the bands that i have seen more than once live , once at Donnington in 98 and London in 2020 ,so many tracks to choose for another review of Iron Maiden ,but as mentioned 'Dance of Death' is a good one ha!
Bruce was part of the National English Fencing Team, but he never went to the Olympics, let alone win a medal. That's just a myth. He fenced against an Olympic medallist in 2013, as part of a warm-up session. That's it.
Great reaction and thanks for sharing. This is a story of a man facing death for his own actions. He is going thru stages of grief and his anger at God. The last bars of the song are an imitation of a hanging man kicking his feet. You can hear the song build in tempo as his heart is racing as he realizes he is getting closer and closer to death. In the end, he cries out for God and redemption. Chris
If you watch the crowd you realize unlike most Iron Maiden concerts where you see the crowd singing with the song. This concert actually came out a few days before this album and song were released. Most of the Crowd had never seen Bruce sing and had not heard the new songs on the new album. Before Bruce, they had a singer who was more punk oriented. So watching the crowd see Bruce and what Iron Maiden was becoming was a joy. I got to see them on this concert tour and have since seen them during 5 different decades including last year for my 5th decade. They are just amazing musicians and even with Bruce fighting throat cancer he nailed his performances. His voice isn't the same, but he gave it all for us. I would still pay to see them again. Chris
So glad you picked this version, definitely the best! This era of late 70s-early 80s is primo British Metal era. Judas Priest and Maiden were in a class by themselves. The showmanship is just off the charts.
Time machine, reacting to Iron Maiden, isn´t it. Next, the most epic song of theirs, Rime Of The Ancient Mariner ! Do the 1985 live version, so your time machine jumps in between, you began with 2011 Fear Of The Dark, continued with 1982 Hallowed Be Thy Name, so it would be nice to end the triple with 1985 Rime Of The Ancient Mariner. It is a treat, believe me !!!
Yes, Iron Maiden did have others singers. Before Bruce there was Paul Di'Anno, you should check out their performance of "Phantom of the opera" with Paul, it's great !
I’d say performances like this are why Iron Maiden became so successful rather than just a footnote in music history. For context in 1982 they were only just about to make it big with the number of the beast album that this track was from and yet you still got a show like this. The first two albums did quite well but it was this album (and the arrival of Bruce) where things really took off. It’s true that they were founded in 1975 but they played pub gigs then. I think 1980 saw their first proper album released, so things started happening at a pace from then onwards
Yes it is Bruce singing !! I think that for a older man (became 66 years old on august 7 / 2024) and the fact that he has gone through cancer of the tongue and lymph nodes, then he sounds great, don't you agree? Bruce is an ICON and so is the rest of the band members of Iron Maiden, he has great breath control and voice control. One thing that makes his voice even better, that is if you realize that he had cancer of the tongue and lymph nodes. A lump “the size of a golf ball” was found on the back of his tongue and still he can sing like that, wow right? Dickinson had the tumor removed in 2015. Since then, he’s noticed a world of difference. “When it went away, I guess there's a lot more space for the sound come out!,” the front man proclaimed. “Not to put too fine a point on it, but there's no more obstruction in the way, you know? So yeah, with the high notes I was like, ‘Wow! Whoosh!’ There's a lot more horsepower in some of the high notes, which is interesting.” Not to bad by a older guy, you might want to read about his throat cancer, right, so here is the link to it: faroutmagazine.co.uk/bruce-dickinson-iron-maiden-cancer-battle-im-lucky/ . Knowing that he is over 60 years here and the he already had cancer of the tongue and lymph nodes, that makes his voice even more amazing, right?
Great to see you back to Maiden Jenna, great reaction as always! Going back to the earlier days is really a great move, if you’re the right age (like me) it brings back some great memories. I saw them a bit later in 1998 at Donnington, it was an amazing experience 🤘🏻 Bruce is the greatest rock singer from that era beyond any shadow of a doubt, amazing vocal talent! More please, Dance of death would be great! 🌹
Great reaction. As a 48 year old Iron Maiden fan (and a fan of the band since I was 12) is a pleasure to see people listening to their songs for the first time and realising how good they are. I started playing the bass guitar thanks to Mr. Steve Harris. You should listen to The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, another masterpiece from Iron Maiden. Greetings from Brazil.
My first concert was in 1982 and it was Iron Maiden opening for Judas Priest. I went to see Maiden because I had bought their Number of the Beast the month before the show solely because of the album cover art and loved their music. Maiden more than held their own against the mighty Priest that night and I knew Maiden was going to be special. I just never thought they would still tearing it up on stages around the world in 2023 and soon to be 2024.
Hi Koality.. Up the Irons!! Such a great band with so many awesome songs and albums.. So glad you came back to them and thank you for doing this track... So many memories of an awesome misspent youth Lol Such an Iconic band.. This is my favorite version. They have inspired so many musiciens and bands over the years. One of my favorite bands, Lovebites. has a very strong Maiden influence. Hard to believe 5 beautiful Japanese ladies all under or just over 5' would be inspired by Iron maiden. One of Lovebites founders Miho their original bass player (recently parted with the band and replaced by 20 year old Fami bass virtuoso) Is inspired by Steve Harris the founder of Iron maiden. She holds her bass low down and plays with her fingers like he does. Their combination of Midori and Miyako on twin lead guitars give the same feel to their music as did Dave Murray and Adrian Smith to Iron maiden with their intricate, blistering, contrasting solos. They have written and produced a dedication song to Iron maiden called the Crusade I can't post the link for you but here is the tab for your RUclips search bar if you want to watch it - Lovebites - The Crusade [Live in Tokyo 2021] (ENG/SPA SUBS) It's a cracker!! Thanks again for the reaction to the magnificent Irons.. Best wishes to you as always from France..
@@metalmark1214 Hi. Yes, they excite me in the same way the Iron's did when they first came onto the scene. So many great bands from Japan .. So much music so little time. Metallica, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Accept. Disneyland after Dark. - AND a LOT of other DANISH artist... Thanks. 🍓♥💪 from Copenhagen Denmark. ✌
Thanks for another great reaction to Iron Maiden👍🏻This was the definitive version we all suggested on your last reaction to them. I thought you'd like it and I'm glad you did. It's really entertaining watching your journey through their music. You could call it your "maiden voyage"😂The music is every bit as important as the lyrics, as you said. Maiden are masters at setting the scene and creating an atmosphere and Bruce is fantastic at telling the story. If you liked this one, I would suggest you might also like Dance of Death live En Vivo or The Rime of the Ancient Mariner live flight 666. If you fancy something different, you could try Alexander the Great studio version. Keep making us all smile and.......Up the Irons!!!
My 11yo self just lost his head - nailing the vocals to this song back then took SO long! Especially that held note!....and Bruce flies the Iron Maiden 747 - "Ed Force One"!..... pity the Air Traffic Controller who annoys him! ....more Maiden? Anything from "Seventh Son of a Seventh son" - I am one! something about this song - way back, a convict could be spared the gallows if they could quote the bible - but then only priests and the rich could read and write!
Maiden is my favorite band of all time, and this is easily one of their best songs. I was born a year after this album was released and I grew up on this stuff. Glad to see so many different people from different backgrounds appreciating classic heavy metal. 'Pantera - Cemetery Gates' is a great metal reaction for vocals if you get around to it. And obviously Maiden reactions put a smile on my face too.
back in these days every one in the band was more serious about their appearance on stage and their music, it took a lot of years until they loosened up and started having fun on stage, its very noticeable in this vid. check out The Clansman from Rock in Rio 2001 next. the entire concert is a much watch!
I always considered "Hallowed Be Thy Name" to be Maiden's best song. They've come close, throughout the years, but never felt They've really topped it. And, I believe this was recorded prior to the actual album being released, so the entire audience was hearing it for the first time, as well. Legendary performance 🤘🤘
The song covers the 5 stages of grief.. 1) Denial - Can it be that there's some sort of error? 2) Anger (or in this case fear) - its not easy to stop from screaming. 3) Bargaining - Don't I believe that there never is an end? 4)Depression - Though the end is near, I'm not sorry. 5)Acceptance - Mark my words believe my soul lives on. Not many people seem to notice this. Also it is very clever the way its structured to have all 5 in a short space of time and in the right order... genius songwriting.
Iron maiden, more so today, is like watching an opera show with how epic it is. The changes of the stage during the show, the giant monster (eddie) coming on the stage, the costumes, the backdrops. Its really something else that no other artist today does. Go back a few years, bruce flew the band, crew and fans from one location to the next between concerts. Theres just. Nothing quite like them
HEY! We looked so cool and cutting edge in the 1980s, you youngsters just don't get it. 😂😂😂For real though, spandex, stripes and spikes was our uniform! Then, you know, the parachute pants (only those that were there know what they were!), beautiful big hair........... Neon, lace..........High Tops, flannel shirts and moccasin boots............ AND NO FRIGGING CELL PHONES!
Fear of the dark was released in 1992. The three major lead singers are Paul Di''Anno(78-81), Bruce Dickinson(81-93 and 99 to present) and Blaze Bayley(94-99). The first lead singer was Paul Mario Day(75-76) and he was replaced by Dennis Wilcock(76-78).
Absolute Banger! Maiden are the blueprint! Every band after them, were inspired by these Monsters of Metal. The clothes in the early 80’s, dare to be an individual, in a world full of sheep, 😊!
Paschendale would be awesome for you I'd think. Another story. About the battle of Paschendale during WW1. Many colour changes and in places quite haunting. Lyrics and performances are chef's kiss
Hi darling i iron maiden are one of the greatest bands in the world I have been listening to them since I was 15 years old and I am now 45 so enjoy darling I think you will love this band ❤❤❤❤
I was fortunate enough to see this tour in Portland, Oregon in 82' Girlschool, opened then Iron Maiden, and the Scorpions headlined still one of the best shows I've seen to date🤘
Yes this is Bruce and yes they have had different singers. They started out with Paul Di'Anno on the first two albums. He's a bit more punk rock but he's really good also. And then they had a different singer for one album while Bruce was off doing a solo thing. Blaze Bailey. He's also good but a lot of people blamed him for the crime of not being Bruce.
Saw them twice in early 80’s. Awesome experience. I love these guys . They really rock. I think my favorite album is piece of mind. Oh man , Dave Murray is awesome on guitar and Steve is great to, he’ll their all great. Bruce’s vocals are amazing . I love em. 🤟🤟🤟
A lot of us in the crowd (and in high school, the mall, the arcade, parties, etc.) Also dressed like that. ;-) It was a culture and a fashion trend for a long time. Good pick. Long live Eddie. 🤟
This is back when they still had "Clive Burr" he was with Maiden from 1979-1982. "Drummer" Iron Maiden started in 1977 and has always been my favorite band, yes they actually had 3 singers Bruce was of course the most accomplished and ever will be. Bruce loved fencing and is a pilot they have there own big ass jet, Bruce flies them to all concerts now. "Steve Harris" the Bass player started the band and writes 95% of the songs. there mascot "Eddy" is famous in hi own right but few Know he started out as "head" He was just a Head in the background. Yes I'm old 56.
Absolutely one of their all time classics from their album Number of the Beast, this was Bruce's first album with Maiden, their first two albums were with singer Paul Di'Anno, and the drummer here is Clive Burr who was diagnosed with MS and left the band after this tour and was replaced by drummer Nicko McBrain on the next album Piece of Mind, great choice!, i also wonder if Bruce still has his spandex pants.
@Koality Reactions: You got most of what the lyrics are about, as it is about a man on Death Row who is living the final hour of his life. However, he goes through the five stages of grief. And when he realizes he is, in fact, going to die, his heart rate speeds up -- and the music tempo matches this by also speeding up. He then shouts out an act of final defiance, when he shouts out, "Hallowed be Thy Name!" Funny enough, this performance is older than I am (I was born in 1983), and it is the Ghost Love Score of the 1980s.
GREAT REACTION!! So the album before this is called KILLERS and has a different singer and is every bit as phenomenal as this one; The Number Of The Beast! Two of my top 20 albums I think 🤔 Seen them on this tour not ever hearing about them. It was a SCORPION'S Blackout tour and Girls School opened the show. 3 bands, two of them legends for $8.50 😮. Awesome Reaction! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️
Yes this is the right version 😂 „Fear of the Dark“ came out in the early 90s after the reunion of the band . Some call it „The second birth of Iron Maiden“
I got to see (and Hear) Iron Maiden and Within Temptation last year at their last US tour date in Tampa FL. The show was beyond great. Bruce still has all that energy. He started out in a jail cell for this song. My favorite is "The Trooper" based loosely on "The Charge of the Light Brigade " by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. BTW I am 74 years old and still rockin'.
Lovely reaction, subscribed instantly hoping to see more Maiden from you. Infinite Dreams, Phantom Of the Opera, Sign of the Cross, those are from the three different singers Maiden had and you'll see how amazing they were and how they managed to bring their own touch to Maiden style. Have a nice day and stay safe.

That's it.
Iron Maiden are just spectacular!
80s golden age of music
The age of METAL!!!!!
Chris
I was a teen in the 80's, and am a Maiden fan from that time. This is at the very pinnacle of their ability.
It gives me so much joy to see a young person take joy in the music that I enjoyed as a youth. Thank you dear lass.
Happy to see someone reacting to this version instead of the later ones :)
Whoosh!’ There's a lot more horsepower in some of the high notes, which is interesting.”
Not to bad by a older guy, you might want to read about his throat cancer, right, so here is the link to it:
faroutmagazine.co.uk/bruce-dickinson-iron-maiden-cancer-battle-im-lucky/
.
They should be listened to from the bassist's point of view. She mentioned the song composition and I'm pretty sure he's behind most of it.
Dance of the Death (en vivo version) should be just fine for the next Maiden
Yeah!
I concur
Or Paschendale.
The trooper
I went to this tour “Number of the Beast” July 82’ Oakland,Ca. I was 13. This is Maiden at their best! 🤘🏻💀🤘🏻
It is Bruce. Did you know he is also the pilot who flies their Boeing 747 airplane from concert to concert
Maiden was my favorite band for 40 years 1982-2021, than I discovered Lovebites and those 5 ladies became my favorite band.
@@metalmark1214 Hi. Yes, they excite me in the same way the Iron's did when they first came onto the scene. So many great bands from Japan .. So much music so little time. Have you checked out Nemophila, Aldious and Band maid? Sure you must have, so much great music from these four bands, I. Hardly have time for anything else.. 😂
@@grantnealon5101 Yep, those bands as well as Unlucky Morpheus, Mary's Blood, Bridear, Lonesome Blue, Trident, Raglaia, and East of Eden.
@@metalmark1214 Yes, so many it's hard to keep up.. It's a great time to be alive...
Only 100 from 20,000 subs !!!! Congratulations 🎉
Could you do some Lovebites
Live Empty Daydream
Gurl power from z
Japan
It's was so much fun then,,,, My first BIG concert was IRON MAIDEN (Copenhagen 1986, my age 15 yrs. ) Then Judas Priest, AC/DC., Ronnie James DIO, and ALL that happened in 1986, iI was 15 (16) yrs old (1986). .
Aces high or back in the village super hype from beginning to end just a punch to the face 😎
FIRE!!!...Music is better the older it is!
And obviously Maiden reactions put a smile on my face too.
lyrics in this song is top notch cant get any better
just seen them in 2023 still amazed the crowds sold out venues abd they are 60 to 70 years old still going strong
back in these days every one in the band was more serious about their appearance on stage and their music, it took a lot of years until they loosened up and started having fun on stage, its very noticeable in this vid. check out The Clansman from Rock in Rio 2001 next. the entire concert is a much watch!
The fear of death causing doubt of everything you thought you knew when you believed death was so far away.
Saw them on this tour a few days before this performance, when they played in Bristol, here in the UK - they were of coarse absolutely superb 🤘🤘🤘
I agree. Rhyme of the ancient mariner is up there for me to
This is Metal!
I had the album in 1982 and my mom said he's got a good voice playing this song.. It,s Bruce at his best.
The En Vivo performance was from 2012, so 30 years after this one. Dance of Death from En Vivo is another great one to react to.
Love your reaction with lyric on deck. That’s how a true fan is made. Let’s go
That was so awesome, great reaction. I saw them on their next tour and it changed my life.
By far the very best legendary live performance by ANYONE EVER!!
Thanks for bringing me back to my teen years. 😊
Fancy pants really did the air guitar justice in the end. Lol😂
The producer made Bruce get the beginning just right before allowing him to do the lowwww and ahhhhhhh.
Excellent band to see live.
Epic is the right word. Love your reaction.
Hi darling i iron maiden are one of the greatest bands in the world I have been listening to them since I was 15 years old and I am now 45 so enjoy darling I think you will love this band ❤❤❤❤
This is when Maiden got to the top of metal mountain and today are still on top.
Listen to "Rime of the ancient mariner", from the 1980s, an epic classic and one of the best stories told in song by Iron Maiden!
I was fortunate enough to see this tour in Portland, Oregon in 82' Girlschool, opened then Iron Maiden, and the Scorpions headlined still one of the best shows I've seen to date🤘
I saw this tour I 1985 live long Beach arena yes that famous concert on video, my first concert at age 12
Blaze did two albums. He was on The X-Factor and Virtual XI.
When I was a kid I had tickets to see these guys with Gun n Roses opening... but I got in trouble and couldn't go. doh!
100% 🔥 Greetings from Argentina
Hes still got it now. Check out some of their new live stuff. Its ridiculous how good they still are
This is back when they still had "Clive Burr" he was with Maiden from 1979-1982.
Love a Maiden reaction
Yes my Dear . Its Bruce!! World Class Fencer he is!
He then shouts out an act of final defiance, when he shouts out, "Hallowed be Thy Name!"
Funny enough, this performance is older than I am (I was born in 1983), and it is the Ghost Love Score of the 1980s.
Hahaha yea it's 30 years gap between Hammersmith 1982 and en vivo 2013. Great raction. Keep going.
I still can't believe you haven't heard every song of Iron Maiden ^^
Yes this is the right version 😂 „Fear of the Dark“ came out in the early 90s after the reunion of the band . Some call it „The second birth of Iron Maiden“
what
I got to see (and Hear) Iron Maiden and Within Temptation last year at their last US tour date in Tampa FL.
I was at this gig,, Clive on the drums was amazing 🤘🏴
Fantastic version, havent seen this one before
next: Iron Maiden - Dance of Death (Death on the Road)
From En vivo is so much better . The most theatrical performance by Brure is there
I respectfully disagree. The crowd is better later but the band sounds better here.
