- DEWALT has updated most of its 20-volt outdoor power equipment ling to make them stronger and more powerful! It is still winter, but if you are looking for new OPE from DEWALT, here is what is coming.
The new DEWALT 20V Brushless Blower (DCBL722) features the same axial fan design as it’s predecessor, DCBL720. It’s rated for 450 cfm and 106 mph. That’s about a 30% boost in max mph and 12.5% increase in CFM, compared to the 400 CFM and 90 mph rating for the DCBL720.
The nozzle of the blower has a new concentrator nozzle design that presumably uses clever aerodynamics to concentrate the air flow. The concentrator is a removable accessory.
This model, like the older models, has variable speed control, and a lock on-switch. The new model gets a bit more ergonomic trigger.
The biggest change to the design is the placement of the battery socket, which is now placed at the rear, which allows the use of 20V Max or larger FlexVolt batteries, allowing for longer run time. The previous model had the battery connection at the base.
Up to 450 CFM airflow
Up to 125 mph air speed (with the concentrator nozzle)
Weighs 5.43 lbs without battery
Price: $199 for the kit (DCBL722P1 with 5.0Ah battery), $139 for the bare tool (DCBL722B)
----------------------------
Dewalt’s new DCST922 20v Max Brushless string trimmer is an upgrade to their DCST920.
The new model has a 14″ swath, two speed settings (0-4600 or 0-6000 RPM), and uses 0.080″ line. The new trimmer features a hinged design that allows the trimmer to be collapsed in half, for more convenient storage. It also features a heavier-duty all-metal head. There is a Quick Load spool that allows for fast and easy line replacement.
14″ cutting swath
Hinged shaft design for compact storage
0.080″ line
Variable speed trigger
4600/6000 RPM settings
Weighs 7.9 lbs without battery
Pricing: $199 for the kit (DCST922P1 with 5.0Ah battery), $129 for the bare tool (DCST922B)
SIR, GREAT REVIEW ! THANK YOU FOR THE UPDATE. I LOVE THE BLACK & YELLOW !
I really like the blower, thanks for the headsup Brian
Thanks for the review. I'm planning on buying both. I have a Kobalt blower which has worked wel but the battery has crapped out multiple times. My trimmer is a POS Ryobi that I might throw in the camp fire one of these days...
I'm excited about both of these. I recently finished and live in a 640sq/ft cabin. So respect to space is always at the top of my list. I dig the folding design of the weed trimmer! I look forward to your full review!
You should do a shop tour it would be a great video👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
Not with all the crap packed in there for winter. Maybe once spring hits and we can move things so one can see everything.
I had to see what my X2 Makita blower weighed. Nine pounds before adding *two* batteries. I'm pretty happy with it, but can't say that my arm hasn't gotten tired! I love the folding feature of the Dewalt string trimmer. I have to fold the seat down in my car to take the Makita X2 to grandma's, which is just over the river and through the woods. It takes up to .090" line though.
The single 18v pack model came out about a month after I picked up the X2 blower. I wish I had waited. The X2 can wear on you with extended use. And it goes through batteries too quickly. I'd gladly trade the tiny decrease in performance for the reduced weight of the single pack model.
Thanks, Brian, and I know we need to wait for better weather to see a trimmer test, but I'm also tall and find almost nothing from any company that is long enough for me to stand up straight to de-stress my lower back. This one look shortish. I'll be patient...
i had a video of me trying to use it in the snow. Maybe I will try to post that on social media so you can see. It is not short, but not long either. I struggled with if it is good for tall people. It is on the edge.
Really appreciate the informative review , I was actually thinking of buying a dewalt trimmer.
I have the Dewalt string trimmer and leaf blower and absolutely love them. This is a nice "refresh", but I just wish Dewalt would come out with more outdoor equipment like Milwaukee and Stihl have. I could really use a lawn edger or snow pusher.
First of all, Stihl is a dedicated OPE manufacturer, like EGO or Greenworks. A power tool company like DeWalt will never match that. Secondly, pretty sure DeWalt actually has more OPE than Milwaukee. Milwaukee has a blower, chainsaw, hedge trimmer, and the kwik-lok system (pole saw/hedge trimmer/edger/weed whacker). Currently DeWalt has a mower, 2 chainsaws (12" 20v and 16" 60v), 2 blowers (20v and 60v), 2 weed whackers (20v and 60v), pole saw, pole hedge trimmer, and hedge trimmer. I'll admit they do need an edger though.
They finally released into the wild. And a drive-by wire trimmer. I am excited for other people, But I have the 60v. Great for the DIY r that might already have a few batteries
Mid-Michigan? I’m 20 minutes east of the Capital. (Off I-96) great video. I ordered the 922 a few days ago.
Wish they would make a brushless version of the shop blower and boost it up to 150cfm that would be sweet I use it all tge time and the switch is starting to go it way past the warranty had it for 6 years, I'm definitely want to get another one but if they come out with a brushless version that would be nice
I love the trimmer, I only have two cons though. One oh which could be because I'm stupid.
1. I wish your had the ability to move the handle up about 2 or 3 more inches but the folding mechanism thing is in the way so you run out of adjustment.
2. When I try to edge with it ( I know it says not to, but come on, everyone does it) the string seems to cut off or goes back inside the spool a little or something. I will bring the line out to where it starts to hit the cutter on the guard and then flip it over to begin edging and then mysteriously the line is about only 2 inches long and not edging anymore, haha. I'm not banging into the concrete, and there already a trench line cut from my previous edger, so I am not sure what is happening. I just can't seem to get it to edge properly. I am using the factory Dewalt line that came loaded inside it.
Other than that, I love it. In my application I only have to use it on low as it is very strong. Works out with saving on battery life.
Solid review, great channel 👍🇺🇸...clever folding unit. I wouldn’t upgrade to the new 20v blower over the old one. But the new 60v flexvolt is good. None are as good as ego...
Honestly, for something like a line trimmer, I'd prefer to not lug around a 60v battery if the 20v gets it done. Actually, I think I'll extend that to just about all OPE. I picked up one of Makitas newer hedge trimmers. Im thankful for the reduced weight of a single 18v pack when I'm hitting the tops of my bushes. And it performs right up there with the Echo gas-mix model it replaced.
agree. As technology moves forward, lighter and more powerful tools are made and they are easier to use.
78 deg F here in Florida, I thought Spring was here already LOL.
Good informative video Brian
Good review
Great video! Can these dewalt batteries be used interchangeably between the power tools and outdoor tools? So many dewalt models I don’t even know which one is current anymore. Any videos on these for beginners like myself ?
I just wish that the dewalt sting trimmers could be compatable with different heads from stihl or who ever
ruclips.net/video/9dWR8Yy_aKQ/видео.html This guy replaces his with an Echo head. Apparently there are some vibration issues with the Dewalt trimmer and you can mitigate the vibration by switching to the Echo head.
just got it and its an awesome machine but having a hard time getting used to the reverse direction from my gas still trimer
Would prefer a flatten tip on the blower, the trimmer is nice but feels bottom heavy.
Great to blow out saw dust out of wood shop !
The older version is 100$ less. Thoughts?
That depends on the use. For blowing leaves, I would spend the 100 bucks, but really you want gas. For blowing off a car after being washed, spend the $100. For just blowing out a garage, save the $100
You should blow snow off vehicles with it
We have ice here. The weirdest winter ever.....
Good demo sir.
How well does it do at blowing the dust and insulation out of your working-clothes?
It does that pretty well.... as well as anything can blow insulation (fiberglass)
Just purchased the blower but my runtimes on the battery is only 15-20 minutes. Is this normal? I don’t think so! I even bought a second.battery and got same results.
DEWALT Should make a 20v Cordless Pressure washer 300 psi like WORX
Same blower just dies on me. Ran 3 batteries and now just wont work. Several batteries tried that work on other tools. Blower wont work after last use
I live in mich i use my cordless blower on the light snow all the time 😂👍👍
We are in Bay City... We have had zero light snow this year. All heavy snow or ice. Where are you?
@@WorkshopAddict lansing I mean I have to get snow blower out but I blow off front entrance last couple of shows light and fluffy stuff i have the 40v roybi backpack and hand held ones ...i have a gas 2 stage blower
@@jonspitzley2801 We are right by the bay and we have had nothing that we could blow with a leaf blower.
U guys get that lake effect snow we don't get alot of that here...but great channel love your videos ...prob more now i know u guys are Michigan guys 👍👍✋ lol
@@jonspitzley2801 Thank you. This year it has been lake effect freezing rain. The bay is not froze and keeps us warmer. We don't even have frost in the ground.
I would like to know what the run time is using a 5 amp hour battery?
I wish I had that issue. Does not take care of her yard. But down here in Florida This Is Us season for leaves Anytime it gets cold. Please fall down. You guys enjoy your deep freeze. And cheers with a beer
I’d like to see this trimmer vs the 60v Kobalt that has been cheap. Hasn’t the snow melted?
Snow is gone, Grass is just starting to grow,. We did have a snow storm yesterday.
Will the blower blow wet leaves ?
Not well.
i've watched and liked many of your videos over the years and finally subed today . thanks for sharing your opinions . i'me debating between this 922 and dewalts bare 920 . i already have a pair of their 6 amps batteries i use with their compact sawzall and impact . the sawzall really surprised me (and a few others) with how powerful it is ! in your video it looks like the shaft is metal/aluminum , good IMO . i was wondering if the motor housing is metal/aluminum also or some sort or super duper plastic ? thanks again .
Motor housing is a cast metal.
I own the older model blower and weed wacker and they both work great and I use 095. Line with no problems. I just watched a guy he bought the same blower I have for 99 dollars and he had one wind blower tools that test wind speed and his blower had 450 cfm and 115 mph and on the box it said 90mph 400cfm sometimes Dewalt upgrades their stuff without telling you
I had one of these blowers for just less than 3 months when it emitted a grinding noise and quit. It never ran again. Sent it back to Home Depot for refund. I’m gonna try something else.
how does the new trimmer compare to the last gen
Night and day in build quality. Hard to say in performance due to the snow and ice covering.
It seems like they just came out with one last month haha
So... the guy who tests *snowblowers in the summer* with sawdust and bark chips is put-off by a little ice in the winter?! You're getting soft, Brian!
I agree with you. It hurt to make a video where I could not at least try to show this working. I need to step it up again. Thanks for pointing it out and having our back.
I went back to my ryobi 40 volt it’s better balance
Why didn't DeWalt make this 1 inch longer so it could fold all the way and not hit the guard ? What we're they thinking ?
It hits the guard on purpose so it has a "latch" to keep it folded.
When my gas trimmer goes south I think I will replace it with a Milwaukee M18 cordless model. I like the capability of .95 trimmer line and the Milwaukee platform in general. DeWalt is a solid brand but their line of cordless impact wrenches are in need of a refresh. Their high torque model is nearly the size of a big corded model. Relative to Milwaukee they only seem to focus on the construction trades and not mechanics a marketing miss.
I have the 20v trimmer and I use 095. Line on it works fine and I get 15 in cut swath I just turn the blade around and put a edge on with my dremel works fine
It’s front heavy it kills your arm
I beg to differ sir....anyone can not load line in minutes no matter how easy it looks. Come on Dewalt give me 3 packs of disposable heads I can snap on or something. I own last year's leaf blower and they are pretty good for smooth surfaces dry leaves grass cuttings on the sidewalk sort of thing. I am jealous of that nosecone.
I'd think twice about the trimmer. After second use motor died on mine! Junk!
It’s garbage and the battery is in a horrible place.
