The studios will bail them out. John said it himself: the studios will be hurt if this chain goes under. For a lot of people, AMC is the only theater for miles. If people don’t have convenient access to theaters, they don’t go. If they don’t go, revenue for the entire industry takes a hit.

And wether AMC is still the owner or someone else, it doesn’t affect the studios. As long the theaters are still running.

Tom13 O'Clock as much as I’d hate to agree with your comment because I love theaters so much, you’re probably right. The technology your average consumer can buy nowadays is almost matching theaters. My home theater is amazing. I still go to the movies a lot, but I pay lots of money to have the best equipment at home, and honestly not too many theaters can beat it except for the high quality screen formats. But if it weren’t for movies not being available on blu ray or digital 3 to 6 months after theater release, I probably wouldn’t go to the movies. Spoilers are the only keeping me in the theaters still.
I’m more of a Regal guy, but I don’t want AMC theaters to go bankrupt. After all, during my one year stay in Maryland, I went to the AMC theaters many times when it was closer to my home I used to live and I thought the whole theater itself look great after watching some movies. I don’t want many AMC theaters to get close down because of this so I want them to continue to do what they can to get much money.

I love going to the Theatre it’s a real experience you can get going out or with your family through the year and we always go to a great local restaurant before hand so I hope they will stay in busy and get back to normal when we all do, it’s a great pastime so many people enjoy! Would be a shame if they closed all together!

I don't get ot how such a large theater chain can go bamkrupt. The first thing you should do as a big company is make sure you have 1 year of money saved up to pay everyone and everything so you won't go bankrupt.
Something has to be done. This is a huge number of screens. Most of the theaters are in Malls, I think. The Malls are going to have issues the retail and food outlets paying their rent as well. It is just a mess.
I’m still crossing my fingers and hoping this doesn’t happen to my theater, they haven’t reported anything like this but it’s still a concern of mine, the last thing I wanna do after this whole crisis is over is go look for a new job
As a fellow AMC employee for 28 years this is as bad as it ever has been and AMC in the past has had financial issues in the late 90's that was solved but cutting theaters, mostly the overseas theaters. If AMC opens again it will be a much smaller company. Any new builds would be put on hold indefinitely and any new initiative would be postponed.
I can't even imagine not being able to watch No Time to Die especially Dune in a theater at the end of this year. Most people don't have big screens with Dolby ATMOS in their homes.
AMC is going to have a big lawsuit on their hands from the owner of the properties. I know a contract had to be signed and that is a breach of contract for not paying rent. With that being said. This place is a thing of the past.

I said on another one of the videos Amazon comes in offers an upgraded prime membership and include A-list. Yes they're an awful company but they have deep pockets and can afford to take that amount of debt and lose money on the ticket cost because if people sign up for it they'll buy more stuff on Amazon to get their money's worth.
Hoping the small independent theater in my neighborhood is able to survive this. But things are still bad here in Louisiana even though the curve is apparently flattening.

Maybe movies could be released streaming on demand on websites such as iTunes, Vudu, Google Play, Amazon, etc sooner. I have a feeling in the future there will be less movie theatres with less attendance. The window from movie theater release to streaming on demand & DVD/Blu-ray release is currently 3 months. In the future this window will probably be shorter to 1 to 2 months.
If they have reached the point where they can't even pay rent they are in even worse shape then most of us thought. I expect AMC to declare bankruptcy within the next week or so. This is sad but not exactly unexpected. I'm now wondering who is going to be the next large company to tap out and declare bankruptcy, Disney, Universal, who knows at this point.
@@s1ddo Right now none of it is. Back rent to the land lords is a new debt that will only grow as more times goes by and be added on top of what they already owe to others. AMC is in a particularly bad spot because it seems that they don't have any reserves to help hold them over till things get better. At this point AMC is like the guy that lost his job in the same week that he has to pay rent, utilities, the kids school, and also had his car totaled.
As long a films are being made & distributed & if times can come back to some degree of being normal...AMC can prevail, but we all are in some form of economic compromise at this point...and we can only hope the efforts will be worth it.

Large companies besides airlines need bailouts like the smaller ones. You can already see what will happen - CCL getting massive investment from Saudi's for one. The ODEAN Leicester Square which is the premier cinema and known internationally for film premiers has just been upgraded at a cost $$$$$ Its what happens to the suppliers, the ushers, the soda sellers, back office staff etc. Where do they go to? What jobs will there be? We are dealing with a catastrophe on two fronts.

I would think Apple would make the perfect investor. Apple could then start a film festival and pick off movies first to carry. Its very obvious movies are forever changed. Setup the the theater to easily carry local e-sports. Perhaps have a partnership with Darden Restaurant Group for a menu. There so much they can do with this.
Amc will be fine 100%. Mall needs amc or this mall traffic will deteriorate to nothing. Studio needs amc which is the largest us box office income. Even food industry such as coco cola needs amc to sell. Not to say local government tax income and employment. Money is cheap to borrow. Amc is in great shape before the crisis with almost fully complete renovation

Can't pay rent due to no income coming in, obviously the debt won't help either, but is any of that debt owed to any of their landlords too?
