There really WAS a Pittsburgh sound...thanks to folx like Lenny Martin & Joe Rock! I'm from the Midwest & could still recognize a "Pitts" 45 due to the falsettos & strings! Glorious stuff!
One of many great doowoop songs from The Great Holiday's from my hometown Pittsburgh PA. Play this on my internet radio show the Doowoop Hour me the Masterblaster.
It sure has that Skyliners/Pittsburgh sound. Interesting that both of those groups were frequently orchestrated by Lennie Martin. He must have been a busy cat on the Pgh studio scene.
This group is not only at the top of all those terrific Pitts burg group but this sound which sends chills down my back is one of the greatest doo wops of all time. When I was at Penn State sometimes the frats would invite up groups from Pittsburgh what a treat
Keith M. I grew up in Little Italy in Washington, DC back in the old days. The Holidays and the Skyliners were just two of our many favorite groups. Friday night dances at Nino's Pizzaria on 46Th St NW, DC. I am soory about the bad news of Jimmy Beaumont passing. He left us way to soon. God bless.
Have seen many great shows in Youngstown and Warren, Ohio and Pittsburgh PA, only thing about it, keep getting lost in Pittsburgh. I DID find Primanti Brothers, original location. Good stuff! We now have one in Niles Ohio,. Eastwood Mall. Great food, not the safest place in the evening. Stay safe and GOD bless all.
Wow!! PJ you are really taking me back to my roots!! East Coast Doo Wop!!! I love this group and this song. Their sound is incredible!! Thanks for posting this!!! Love it🎶❤️🎶
ps-The Holidays were from Clairton Pa. about 20 miles south of Pittsburgh. I ran into the original lead singer whose name escapes me at this time. He was working in Deep Creek Maryland as a golf pro but that was a very long time ago. There is a nice story about them on their CD if you can find a copy.
LANCIANESE RAMON "RAY" 67, of Clariton, PA, passed away on December 6, 2011. He was born in McKeesport, PA, on June 17, 1944, the first son of Roman and Rose Lancianese. Ray graduated from Clariton High School and attended Morehead State University in Kentucky. A talented tenor, Ray was the lead singer for Little Ray and The Velvedears and The Holidays. Ray was the inspiration for the group and was the lead singer and song writer. The group recorded several hit records. After his successful musical career, Ray's love of golf turned into a new career when he became a PGA professional. He held several Head Professional positions including a long and happy career at South Hills Country Club in Whitehall, PA. Ray was honored to be a Life Member of the PGA of America in the Tri-State Section
Pittsburgh groups and soloists have never gotten the credit they deserve.
The last remaining member of The Holidays, Charlie Hatfield, passed away in September 2019. He was my dear friend and I will miss him. RIP Charlie.
Virginia Ritter are you fr? That sucks ):
SO SORRY. REST IN PEACE. GOD BLESS.
God rest their souls
Who knew this record was this beautiful? I am from Philly, and I am now a pure fan of Pittsburgh DooWop.
Though Philly had a sound of its own too. All those great records on Grand and Gotham.
Young people should listen to this music. Then they would know what we had
It is pretty good.
Until I looked at the record, I thought this was a recording by The Skyliners, it does sound like them? I absolutely love this.
close your eyes...think SKYLINERS!
Yes! Very similar sound.😊
Thanks to Lennie Martin. RIP
YES, SO TRUE. LOVE THIS SONG.
YES, I HEAR IT, SO TRUE!!
I CAN HEAR IT, THE SKYLINERS ALL THE WAY!! GOD BLESS!!
Whoever gave a "thumbs down" must be a Lawrence Welk fan, because this is a beautiful, "hep", teen doo-wop ballad.
Or they could be a fan of rap crap and other tasteless insincere today music.
Yes, the harmonies on this ballad are just immaculate. Reminds me of the Skyliners.
Very beautiful Doo Wop song. It is a timeless music style.
There really WAS a Pittsburgh sound...thanks to folx like Lenny Martin & Joe Rock! I'm from the Midwest & could still recognize a "Pitts" 45 due to the falsettos & strings! Glorious stuff!

Superb. Pittsburgh has always been a great ballad town and had a lot of terrific doo wop groups.
Pure Pittsburgh sound of the Olds day's when time was better
Many wonderful groups from this wonderful city.
Nothing like the "burgh" doo wop sounds anywhere
Porky and others played this in the "burgh" and it was a favorite at all the dances.
Never heard this till just now. Absolutely stunning.
This group's sound is cool and compelling. Lead is magic.
This is strong and has some complicated harmonies - I love it!
I moved away from Pittsburgh 14 years ago, but it's always great to hear the great Pittsburgh Sound anytime! Thanks!!!
One of many great doowoop songs from The Great Holiday's from my hometown Pittsburgh PA. Play this on my internet radio show the Doowoop Hour me the Masterblaster.
Beautiful Doo-Wop song
Spectacular arrangement, soaring and celestial. The “Pittsburgh Sound” offered listeners smooth, tight, clean little dramas….like audio mini-movie classics!
Once this song gets inside your head it refuses to leave......and that's a good thing.
Definitely a Jimmy Beaumont sound!! Great Song!
It sure has that Skyliners/Pittsburgh sound. Interesting that both of those groups were frequently orchestrated by Lennie Martin. He must have been a busy cat on the Pgh studio scene.

zero4conduct Ray Lancenies
Raymond Lancianese, he became a semi-pro golfer.
