2024 Yamaha XSR900 Review | More fun than the XSR900 GP?

  • I've never ridden a Yamaha before, but the XSR900 looked a good place to start with its natty Marboro-not-Marlboro paint scheme and 119 horsepower CP3 triple. I'd heard a lot about this motor over the years so was keen to try it. Did it live up to the hype? Jump aboard and find out!

    Picked up my XSR 900 on Friday and I love it. I'm only 5ft 3, so the seat height of even the GP version is too tall for me. 810mm is the most I can handle. Given that limitation, the XSR900 is possibly the best bike I've ever owned. Smooth and comfortable, and I can still get the ball of a foot down when I stop. I don't see it popping up in too many videos these days, so thanks for reviewing it. Keep up the great work :)

      I have the same inside leg issue. I got a CBR650R 24 model and it was ball the foot. However I purchased some daytona max sport gtx boots (raise 6cms) and now single leg is flat on the floor. Given me a lot more confidence when the camber is not flat.

      The GP not just has the fairing compared the standard XSR, it also has clip ons rather than the handlebars, so the riding position is more leaned forward on the GP.
      I love my ‘23 XSR. Best and most fun bike I’ve ever owned.

    I have 2500km on my 2024 XSR900; I previously owned two first-gen models, a 2016 & a 2018, as well as a XSR700, MT07, and about 42 other bikes since 1969 😀 (I am 60).
    The 2024 is a superior motorcycle from a rideability standpoint, yet is still a traffic-punishing, hooligan machine when I so desire it to be.
    Anything we buy will be outdated by one to four model years down the road, so it is important to buy what fits your riding style and appeals to your perception of what a motorcycle should look like.
    That being said, anyone who criticizes a motorcycle before twisting the throttle, may be missing out.. and certainly this is true in the case of the second gen XSR900.

    I’ve owned one others for a year or so and your review sums up my experience with it. An awesome bike, good for around town but then loads of fun on weekend drives too. A sensible sitting position though the seat lacks some cushioning. Glad you enjoyed it..!

    Nice Review Mr Mid-Life-Crisis, I hope to see more! I decided on the 2023 Blue version. As you said, it's got the engine, handling, low weight, flickability, electronics, and comfortable riding position! What more could you want...um...erhem a comfortable seat perhaps, yes indeed that was the first mod, some aftermarket Corbin leather cusioning for the aging rear end.😅

    Good review bud. I am about your age at 47 and havent ridden since I had kids 20 years ago....but i am buying one of these beautiful machines hopefully next year. Perfect mix of low end torque and top end hp with ~120hp peak. Upright riding position and wheelies anytime I feel like it on a bike that I find beautiful. Tail tidy on the arse end...yoshimura exhaust and an ECU flash makes these things literally the perfect motorcycle to me. They make nice aftermarket mirrors that go down instead of sticking out so far as well...honestly i would prefer to just have the mirrors that stick up from an MT09. So many ways to customize this bike. Hello from Charlotte, NC USA on this 4th of July!! Liked and subscribed

    TBH Im kinda surprised with your comments on comfort and suspension. I had the bike for 4 days and I found the suspension very hard and harsh (it was in factory setting), it was working well just on the smooth roads otherwise it was jumping like a goat. And the seat... it was just wooden plank.

    • @midlifecrisismotorcyclist
      @midlifecrisismotorcyclist  2 месяца назад +2

      Interesting! Stuff like suspension and seat comfort is always a personal thing of course; maybe I just struck lucky with the settings I was supplied with/it suited my build/bodyweight but I guess the adjustment is there if you want to tweak.

      @@midlifecrisismotorcyclist Dont get me wrong, this bike is awesome for the price. And yes, I was rinding it on very shitty bumpy roads and I didnt want to tweak the suspension, as I had it just for few days as a rental bike.

    • @aspectcarl
      @aspectcarl Месяц назад +1

      I have the GP variant since June. Initially, I found the rear suspension much too hard, I took a single click of rebound and compression out of the slow adjustment on only the rear shock and now it feels just right for me at 92kg plus gear.

    No, their are significant differences between the bikes other than slapping on the GP fairing.
    For example, GP has a longer swingarm, electronic suspension and different rider geometry compared to the naked. Front forks are a different size, and comes standard with cruise control, clip-ons, + more.

    This bike has seriously good fundamentals. It brings the goods on the backroads. I have owned a couple of MT10s, three R1s, amongst countless other bikes over the last 48 years or riding, dirt, street, and track. Only real downsides are 1) compact ergonomics if you are a large rider 2) the ECU seems to intervene with the power output in the lower gears.
    The engine is sweet, the brakes and suspension are good, and the chassis has the stability of the R1 and MT10. Good electronics, cruise control, stock tires, and very slick quick shifter. I really like its slimness and light feeling compared to the MT10.

    • @tjggills4776

I have dual can dominator pipes, but frankly the stock sounds great and worth only a couple HP. I'd say the Pipes are totally optional. Enjoy!

    Great review. I prefer the looks of the last gen XSR900, there's a weird amount of just "dead space" in the design. Look at the slab of black on the frame, the weird headlight proportions.
    If they got the looks a bit more together, it'd be the bike for me. It is floating in an awkward space between reto and neo-retro / retro-futuristic. It needs to commit one way or another.
