Thank you PBS for doing this spotlight piece, for multiple reasons. 1) I’ve been talking about the early influences of black artists in bluegrass for decades and always felt like it falls on deaf ears. 2) the way she expresses depression and substance dependence to deal with depression/anxiety is so real and relatable. It gives hope to the many people going through the same thing. In my role as a healthcare provider I talk a lot about finding healthy alternatives to dealing with stress. Bad things happen, you can’t turn to chemicals every time life happens. 3) Dule Hill is awesome
I live very close to Johnson City, Tennessee, and I actually travel through there quite often to the VA Hospital. I would love to meet this young lady. No style or genre of music should be divided by color. I was raised on the old country and Bluegrass Music. As I child I had met a few of the pioneers of Bluegrass. You keep following your dreams, and maybe we will meet up one day.
The music my ancestors played was brought over with us cross the pond and it’s very important for people to know that many mountain folks were very poor and didn’t own slaves and were very reclusive to outsiders.
nice take on realities of life. had chance to hear Bogan, Martin and the Armstrong Bros. around 1972 in kalamazoo, Michigan. Louie Bluie is worthy short documentary take on them.
hey. no problem. it was my pleasure to watch. thank you for putting this up! the roots of all music (and art) are collaborative. it doesn't belong to any one person or race or culture. it's everyone's to adapt and use.
So wonderful to see Amethyst getting featured here! It was great to work with her on the set of Country Connection for the @BankofAmerica sponsored documentary by Ken Burns PBS “ Country Music “ ruclips.net/video/dk4NmJxhklc/видео.htmlsi=JGYOzhk2UYzIVrH1 ruclips.net/video/FvP9pheIC0k/видео.htmlsi=mHfVn7LIQis2nOlo
Maybe because him and his wife are at the origin of this serie. He pitched it to the so called black media, who refused. PBS opened their doors to him Instead of complaining and being tired. Be the one who impulse similar projects in your community, at your own scale. Nobody gonna do it for you.
Some folks are so laser focused and blinded by grievance that it makes them impervious to common sense and reality. This comment succinctly captures this imo

Live in Rocky Top, my mom’s family is from Johnson City. Grew up in Nashville. Great to be learning about the region’s musical/ethnic history
What a talent!!! And what a gift of parents you have! The pain and how you channel it will bring you peace. Be blessed! ❤✊🏿

I think of Alison Krauss 27 time Grammy winner
Dolly plays guitar , banjo , Harpsichord, slude guitar & she clicks her fingernails together
You forgot the Scots. Who played a huge part in folk music .
they mention Scots-Irish fiddling at 2:39
Please, no one forgot the Scots.
😮
Haha!! This is hilarious!!
No way Gus actually taps
"microaggression"
I tuned out after that. Such garbage. Always offended.
Just because you haven’t experienced it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
@@andrewcanteven2687 I have witnessed socalled "microaggressions". It's based on a false premise and people looking to be offended and make excuses.
@@andrewcanteven2687 You subscribe to TYT????
bwaaaaaaaaahahahaaaahahahaaaaaaaaahahahaaaaaaa
you instantly put your fingers in your ears and write an offended comment but we're the "offended" ones.
Love to see polarizing headlines putting more emphasis on skin color than the art's performed. What a shame
Were doing great. Lost me at micro aggressions.
Yeah, hearing that “buzzword” in conversation would remind me suddenly that I have somewhere else to be.
More race bs. Very cool PBS.
There are so many African American Artists from the Area? WHY dule Hill?? Why not get someone who is African American? I'm tired.
