I am reading Fourth Wing right now and it's very reminiscent of the time when Sarah j maas was at her peak (in a good way), you pretty much nailed how I am feeling about how it's not totally new and the writing feels very familiar but it's still exciting and addicting on its own
I feel so seen when you're talking about chores. It has always been very confusing on why I can be so organized in some stuffs yet very messy and uncaring about others. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one like this.
Omg I’ve never related more when you mentioned being rlly organized in areas your passionate about or enjoy & then the mundane everyday type of stuff is so hard. THAT IS MEEEE. When organization gets brought up I never know how to explain if I am or not 😭😭
this is so barely related but i saw When a Stranger Calls YEARS ago and i think about it regularly but never knew the name of it! so i haven’t been able to find it or reference it. thank you SO much for solving this dilemma for me 😂
I was fully prepared to be disappointed by Fourth Wing, but I'm halfway through and it's so entertaining and hard to put down. 😅 If you didn't love Yellowface, I recommend The Plot by Jean Hanff Korelitz. It's also about an author stealing another writer's work, but its more literary mystery thriller so i think there is more going on in the plot. 🎆
I just wanted to say, I am ALWAYS hyped to watch your videos! You're so effortlessly funny and entertaining, and nothing can beat your commentary lol 🎆🎆🎆
heya! i renectly started watchung ur channel and was honestly surprised that you never did a video on siggy shade, thats a goldmine of terrible and bizzare content
🎆🎇 I somehow never heard of Fourth Wing, and yes the rock I am living under is pretty comfy 😂 I’ll add it to my list though, I miss that dystopian YA book era sometimes.
Girl, I have to take vitamin D because of my doctor too so you're not alone. You make fourth wing sound good. I'm not usually into hyped books but this one sounds pretty good
I’ve been interested in Big Swiss since before it released because Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) was cast as Big Swiss in the HBO series over a year ago so I’m glad to hear you liked it, hopefully I’ll be getting to it soon! And yeah…. I also gave The Last Word 3 stars (maybe 2.5). Similar to you, I liked the premise and the beginning, but the 2nd pov really stunted some of the momentum. The twists were so underwhelming and mostly ineffective which made the pacing in the last 25 percent noooot great (I also didn’t care about Emma as a final girl…). But I did find a big chunk of the book really fun, so I definitely plan on reading more thriller/slasher books like this one because I love horror films of the same variety.
Bahahaha girl I have to take vitamin D too 😂😂 i basically turn into a vampire in the summertime, I'm not tryin to be outside. Also, I'm gonna have to finally pick up Fourth Wing!
Girly, you've definitely sold me on Fouth Wing. I was side-eyeing it cause man the book is over hyped! but after your take on it, I'm giving it a chance. I hope to get 🎆🎇 from it 😂
@@sarawithoutanH 3.5 for me mostly, for some reason I wasn’t blown away but I enjoyed it and didn’t feel bored at all. I kept noticing how much they talked about her height too which bugged me after a while😭 and they killed off my favorite character😪
girl i get you for happy place like i declared myself an emily henry girlie with just pwmov and loved book lovers but i think every other emily henry book has been a miss for me 😭 hoping the 5th book is another 5 stars.. 🎆
pwmov is my favorite too! i liked beach read and enjoyed book lovers enough but happy place was sooo off. we need the next book to be the best one yet!!
as someone with EDS, with the things i’ve heard about it i will never be reading fourth wing. some people who also have it might be able to relate more, but it just gives me the ick. it’s already confusing enough to try to explain to people, and i’m fully anticipating getting the “oh just like this character in this book!!” comments from people (not here just generally) which just adds another layer of information that’s not the best. idk, maybe i’m just extra bitter about stuff like this because my knees try to dislocate even when i’m falling asleep lol. i’ve also learned to be a lot more careful about the books i read that have disabled characters, because i cannot put myself through another misrepresentation of disabilities.
Last Word was a decent 7/10 for me. Probably won't be reread, but I enjoyed it. I liked the beginning premise of it being: "Main character: -leaves a constructive negative review on a book they didn't enjoy- The freaky, definitely psychotic and unhinged author: And I took that *personally*."
Whelp put Fourth Wing on hold at my library. There’s only like 150 people in front of me at this point so I guess I’ll get around to it in the next decade 🎆
What's crazy is that I think I looked fourth wing up on Libby the day that my library got it and I was the first person to check it out! It was lucky timing
Now I feel like I should have listened to the audiobook of Big Swiss. I love Lit Fic and was so excited to read it but I ended up DNFing it after 150 pages☹The writing style just wasn't doing it for me anymore. BUT I do like the premise and am interested to watch the adaptation with Jodie Comer when that comes out. Definitely should have gone with the audiobook.🎆
I wanted to be obsessed w fourth wing so bad. It has all the tropes I usually eat up but for some reason couldn’t finish it?? It’s so strange lol bc I don’t even think it’s bad but I feel like im missing something everyone’s seeing with it.
Fourth Wing! 🔥 it is a good book if you treully go with no expectations...i thought i would hate the book as i seem to be an outcast to never get the hype....but i get this hype...i will buy all the books when they come out...i like where the story is going and the potential...maybe even a spin-off to the other riders in the story...who knows...i liked the book🎆
I agree with yellowface! I couldn't quite pinpoint why it wasn't a 5 star read, but the fact that it drags on and becomes predictable is what does it for me. Could have been a novella and been just as successful in it's purpose
yellowface i totally agree i was so excited and invested at the start but then it felt like nothing happened in the second half it was just twitter discourse… and the ending was very disappointing
my god i hated happy place 😭 it’s just pretty word vomit. pretty sad cuz it’s my first emily henry book n i enjoyed her writing at least :/. excited for ur review to validate my disappointment HAHA
Totally agree about Yellowface. The beginning was amazing, but the longer it went on the more I got bored. I was expecting something way more satiracle and unhinged. The book felt kind of like a flogging of a shitty character, which... she deserved it, but then it makes you feel bad for her, causing literal mixed emotions.
happy place was such a let down! I think bc the main reason these two havent worked it out is bc they couldnt communicate (for eight years lol) and their chemistry is physical above everything else, it just isnt what i pick up an emily henry book for. I love the emotional connection and banter the cahracters have, and i also felt that their struggles felt very first world problem-y to ne compared to the others. I know many people struggle with career stuff but the way it was resolved was so unrealistic and gave me anxiety tbh.
Completely agree! I also felt that so much stuff happened off page, it was hard to care about all the characters. There wasn't enough memory scenes with her friends and a lot of years were glazed over.
I just have a couple things about the fourth wing's world building that didn't make sense for me right off the bat. It is repeated over and over again that the threat of all out war is increasing, so I have a huge problem with this military college allowing so many cadets to die when they are going to need everyone it can get to help fight. They could have easily made the Rider Quadrant a little safer so that those who fail can be sent to the infantry where they will still be able to fight in the war. Sure, I guess you can’t help it if a dragon incinerates someone, but culling 20% of potential riders every year by unnecessarily forcing them to walk the Parapet is pointless. I also find it unbelievable that the kingdom would allow traitors’ kids into the Riders Quadrant at all. If the previous uprising was such a problem and they wanted to punish the kids of the leaders, the last thing they should do is let them bond super powerful dragons. That sounds like an incredibly risky thing to do for an unstable kingdom. They could have just sent the kids to the infantry and used them as soldiers, and there would be less risk. Why would Violet's mother let her train as a scribe for most of her life if she knew she would not let her be a scribe? Why not actually let her train to be a rider? Surely some riding skills are better than none? SHE ALREADY HAS A DAUGHTER WHO IS A RIDER! The book also got incredibly predictable at times. Like at one point, Violet’s nemesis Jack announces “Get those oranges away from me or I’ll be sent to the infirmary!” Jeez I wonder what’s gonna happen later in the book. But also it's just the first book so idk if these questions will be answered in the next books. I hope they do 🤷♀️🤷♀️
Oh okay I’ll get Fourth Wing! You’re the second person who said pretty much the same things as you… it’s going to be July before I get it though. Sigh 🎉
