Thanks again. One additional nice feature is that the histogram shows an indicator for where your pointer is. As a editing novice, I found this helpful e.g. when taking portraits where the subject needs a very different exposure level than the background/foreground.

3:30 I think it does refers to the live preview while your editing the photos with the software (and you may want more speed since the software itself is very slow in communicating with the camera and sending back the conversions). It does not affect final conversion step from RAW to JPEG.

Thanks a lot Chris!!! This sounds very interesting. I'm gonna try it.
About direct hex editing, it shouldn't work because the standard practice is to use CRC, metadata signatures, etc, to detect corruption and tampering. Also, data structures would be different between camera models so the X RAW Studio software would find inconsistencies. But it was worth trying anyway.
Thanks a lot again for the video and have a great weekend!!

One question though - I see in your video that two of the options are grayed out - Dynamic Range and D-Range Priority. Everything else can be edited, but not those two. I have the same problem. Any idea why? Is there a workaround? The recipe I'm trying to add specifically calls for changing these. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing this video on XRaw Studio. I've been using this program for a very long time and I always talk about it when people suggest using this or that raw converter. I have Ubuntu on my computer so I need to run this in a virtual machine which works just fine. The only problem with XRaw is - as you also stress in the video, that you need to own the camera that took the original photo in order to process it. I went from an X-T2 to an X-T4 and of course that camera won't process any of the X-T2 files. This can be a problem since most people tend to sell off their used gear in order to fund the next upgrade. If you need something that will consistently process your entire gallery, you do need a software raw converter I think. One question for you @pal2tech about that usb power setting. I never turned that off before and have left the camera plugged in for ages. What is the risk with doing that? In fact what does that function even do? Anyway thanks again for sharing and keep making more videos :-)

The quality setting you changed near the beginning is just for the previews, not for the final render. The final render is always the highest quality.
When I was playing with the camera profile customization I was editing some of the customization files directly (they’re just XML) I seem to recall that they had serials or some kind of uuid in them to tie them to specific cameras. I wonder if they editing lock out works on a similar principle, as I imagine the camera serial number is in the raw file somewhere too.

    • @fredbloggs545
      @fredbloggs545 3 года назад +1

I have tried editing the exif on the raw files, including camera serial number. I basically copied all of the camera data from my X-E4 RAF to an X-E3 RAF, no joy.

I have been meaning to get into X Raw Studio for a while so you’ve convinced me to finally try it out. I’m having an issue with it crashing on my MacBook however. It loads find but when I’m scrolling through photos in a folder it just crashes and I get the usual MacOS error message. The other thing that accompanies this is my X-S10 then starts making a feint high pitched noise. This is only rectified by removing and re-connecting the usb cable.

  • @davidmedeiros7572

So, is there a technical reason older camera's can't take save profiles direct from XRAW, or is this just a choice Fuji made to not retroactively upgrade that functionality? Could they have made the XT3 work like the XT4 here with a firmware update?

  • @stephenschmid492
    @stephenschmid492 3 года назад +1

Congratulations for this useful video, I have some questions, I installed the application on my computer, but I haven't been able to get it to work. , I used a micro USB 2.0 connector, maybe a 3.0 is necessary? Although I don't know if it will work, on my regular, home PC, my camera is an xt2, and I haven't found the option to disable the USB charging function on it, maybe that's what doesn't allow the process to work. , I appreciate your response!!

The two questions I have about this software are: First, why is there a "crop" button when viewing JPEGs and how do I use it; there are times I like the conversion but just need to crop/rotate, I can do the cropping/rotation on screen but can't seem to save the image. Second, does the "*" on an image mean it's a conversion, it has been edited or exactly what? I understand one might ask: "Why bother, use a REAL converting/editing program". I know, I'm just curious. :)

On the topic of X Raw film simulations. What would be your preference if you also had Capture One which does great job also? Does X Raw do a better job in the conversion since it uses the camera's CPU/recipe.

You are comparing apples and oranges. X Studio is the only way of getting jpegs exactly as they would look straight from the camera, useful if you want to play around with film simulations and custom recipes while retaining the exact output of the camera. It is not a LR replacement.
If you are a straight out of camera jpeg shooter then X Studio is useful. If you are a RAW shooter who likes to post-process, then X Studio is pointless to you.

BUT, the problem is the screen or the viewfinder does not show what the image looks like in the real world / what it would look like on a correctly calibrated computer screen... I would rather wish for a better and more calibrated color-accurate viewfinder and screen than more megapixels or other mumbo jumbo no real photographer needs in the next model from fujifilm. Thanks.

I have an issue that's worse than an itch you can't scratch. I asked Fuji now I hope you can answer my question.
I converted raw files and all went well until I launched Lightroom to import the converted jpg files. Lightroom didn't see the x raw studio converted jpgs.
I launched Photoshop and opened the files. I created a new folder and dragged the jpg files into it. launched LR and clicked Import. LR saw the converted jpgs in the new folder. Why is this happening with the converted files that are in the original folder? A bug lurking about or do I need a plugin?

7:54 "look at this! See that?"
Erm yes my sincere apologise I believe I cannot grasp where do I have to look at
Joke aside, I have a question, since cheap manual lenses quite popular this year, I'm interested with fujifilm system for my slow-paced street camera. X-T10 caught my attention, do you have any advice before purchasing this guy? Thanks.

Pal2tech, why half of my photos doesn't look sharp even at 200 or 400 iso in daylight or flash. And half of them showing worm artifacts. I was having thoughts of switching to a full frame because of these. Can you please help figure it out and explain? I'm subbing for the topic to come. Thanks in advance.

I think Fuji X Raw Studio may produce higher quality jpegs than LR. I imported the same RAF file to each and then applied the same film simulation. The jpegs exported from Raw Studio looked a bit sharper than those from LR. The was a quick and dirty test and I wonder if anyone else agrees.
It makes sense that an app which uses the Fuji camera itself as a conversion engine will have the best output. I'm thinking of changing my workflow to start with a Fuji X Raw Studio conversion to jpg (if needed) and reserve LR or On1 Photo Raw (my regular photo editing and cataloguing app) for more aggressive jpg editing.

This is nice and can save a lot of time and hassle to get a bunch of camera-profiles or recipes to the FujiFilm-X cameras.
But what I am really curious about is if there is any way to not only get the FujiFilm generic film-profiles (lile Provia, Velvia and Eterna Bleach Bypass) to appear with the Raw files in Lightroom or ACR, but also the custom-profiles stored in camera and used on the Jpeg. Anyway to think of to get these Jpg-custom profiles to appear on the Raw-files so they can be processed in LR or ACR. I know of the Topaz Lab app Jpeg to RAW AI but I don't consider that to be the preferred way here.

No. You would have to create your own LR pre-sets to match the custom recipes.

The profiles on XT4 seem like they would be fun to play with

Hi Pal! Could you share any really significant benefits of this software over other similar tools, such as for example LR's converter?

The jpeg is *EXACTLY* as it would be when shot. There are only two ways of getting jpegs that exactly match the camera output, shoot with the camera or convert the RAF using X RAW Studio.

I am trying this as I am watching the video and I am having trouble connecting the X-T4 to X Raw Studio and I'm using the USB-C that came with the camera directly hooking it up to a MacBook Pro. Could this be a software problem, because I just downloaded the latest version of X Raw Studio?

Great info! I had no idea you could write a recipe onto the camera. Actually gives me a reason to use it 😎. I’m curious if you could find where Fuji keeps the file containing the recipe information for the camera to read. If that recipe file could be copied and saved on computer, it would be amazing. Also, recipes could be shared easily with others instead of entering each parameter individually...just load a file to X Studio presto! Love the channel ❤️

From my PC for the X-E4
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\com.fujifilm.denji\X_RAW_STUDIO\X-E4 and you'll find a folder in there.
They are just a bunch of XML files.

@@fredbloggs545 cool. Thank you. I’ll give it a go (on mac) now if only files could transfer via phone...Or, of course Fuji could give more custom settings on the camera....naw
