  • Dr. Samira Addrey graduated from Havana's Latin American School of Medicine with the dream of becoming a revolutionary doctor.
The Ghanaian-American physician now works with IFCO/Pastors for Peace so that other low-income youth can study medicine in Cuba and then go on to serve their communities in the U.S.
Belly of the Beast journalist Liz Oliva Fernández caught up with Dr. Addrey in Washington D.C. to talk about what she learned studying on the island for seven years; how Cuba's healthcare system compares with the United States’; and what she misses most about life in Havana.

My most painful experience was when i had some paperwork completed and i was made to pay facility fee about 400 dollars, then the doctor feeabout 300 dollars. How on earth do you charge so much for the infrastucture thats fixed and has been there for decades that is outrageous and it explains how parasitic the US health delivery system is.

Will the US even recognize this young woman trained in Cuba's medical school and allow her to sit for the exam.

I❤CUBA, n plan to retire there soon! People from all over the 🌎 go to CUBA, for health care. Imagine what CUBA could accomplish, if the US would end the EMBARGO n take CUBA off the TERRORIST LIST! What's the US afraid of, why keep an EMBARGO, on a poor, 3rd 🌎 country, for the last 65yrs, when the rest of the 🌎 has been voting to end it, for the last 30+years! The only two countries that are not on broad, are the US/Israel, go figure 🥴

The mainstream media propaganda make sure to use the 1st sec 3d to divide us! What about telling the truth that the biggest oppressors is the US. To make sure to hold the power against the people. Viva libre Cuba! ✊🏾❤️‍🔥🍉

hopefully cuba doesn’t fall into the same pattern that has happened here in the united states wherein native black americans are being replaced by first generation children of recent immigrants. ELAM was developed to provide medical school opportunity to foundational black americans free of cost. foundational black americans should receive first priority and hopefully this won’t change.

Blockade,, economic war, genocide. That has never been an "Embargo".
