Heathers the Musical is based on one of the most iconic teen films of all time and recently completed a successful five month run at Royal Haymarket Theatre in London. The award-winning writing team Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy’s hit musical adaptation has enjoyed successful runs in Los Angeles and New York.

I love the little interactions between the two, having them sing together helps the chemistry of the two show.

Yeah I can see that, it could be due to the fact that she is confronting him with what is wrong with his actions and trying to get him to stop. It could be him feeling shame/embarrassment or anger at Veronica. Also I think that he is really only in love with the idea of Veronica a girl who will follow his plans and let him save her from lol around her and her standing strong for herself is ruining this idea he has of the girl he loves

Jamie has so much of the movie JD. I get shivers. Ryan’s JD was so much more likable than the movie version and I feel like Jamie is bringing back some of the more psychotic notes of the character.
Ugh, I hated the original musical J.D. he felt like a softie, no psychotic parts there.

Exactly! His character was created to be unlikeable - weren’t the movie creators aiming to make fun of "Bad Boy" stereotypes? It just doesn’t make sense. Jamie’s version is definitely a lot more insane C:
i love it when JD doesn’t say “you’re the one i choose” until 2:54 after veronica says it as if he’s waiting for her to confirm it first as if he’s hesitant to actually choose her
I love how you can tell Jamie’s in character throughout this video because of how stony his expression is - if he was singing as Jamie we know he’d have that bright smile we get to see at the end!
That fact that Carrie barely breaks the eye contact with Jamie while singing it’s so beautiful and real
The anger in her voice in the start . I was prepared. I’m used to the soft start and it being soft throughout but I feel Carrie portrays the more accurate emotions Veronica is feeling during this song

they embody the characters so incredibly well . the chemistry, veronica’s intent with this song, she lulls him back to sanity. she empathizes with him and finally he listens to her it’s so beautiful the acting and the chemistry is so good
Ever since I saw this on stage, I’ve been continuously replaying the songs on the album. I just love the timbre of Jamie’s voice. At some points (specifically Meant to be Yours) he almost screams. Whereas, songs like this one, he’s really soft and sweet. His changes in mood remind the audience that JD is just a confused teenager. It really highlights how insane he really is - how he’s not just a normal person but he’s genuinely insane. It just shows the impact that his father has had on him.
He seems to have lost his trust and this song seems like he’s just realised that he could have love in his life, and he could actually have the reciprocated feeling of trust. The way that he sings his lines in this song are like he’s recalling a memory (*cough cough* his mother’s death). I haven’t seen this presented so well in any other performance, therefore there is no competition on who I view as the best JD.
I'm really glad for perspectives like this because I'm not good at analyzing anything past scratching the surface, and when I read comments like these, it opens my eyes to a whole new layer of depth that adds so much more meaning to the musical. This might seem weird, but thanks for commenting this!

With jd and Veronica's angelic voices mashing together you'd never know this was a toxic relationship
Don't get me wrong, the original off broadway cast was amazing, but this cast is incredible. I feel like this Veronica looks more like a Veronica Sawyer. And the JD seems more hurt, I like how he acts and sings more like he's been hurt rather than crazy the whole time.
With I Say No and Seventeen, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna like the West End Cast Recording more than the Off-Bway one 😍 I mean I LOVE Barrett and Ryan and the full OB cast but I feel like the OLCR is more catchy

siân diann Half of people just say that cause she was the original and since she is the original it’s like oh that’s how Veronica is specifically supposed to sound but in reality I believe Carrie is better just because of the raw emotion in her voice it fits the role best and Jamie as JD was fucking incredible. Barret is amazing and I love her to death❤️❤️But really back when she was playing Veronica the emotion wasn’t always there when she sung but she’s improved soooo❤️❤️😁

I honestly love that they kept all the little voice cracks and imperfections in this, cause those are the kinds of things you hear in the live production, so it just makes it seem way more real. Idk I just love them a lot😂
