I agree, but it is also my problem with TC and why I wasn't interested in backing it. There's no shortage of miniature wargames with compelling backgrounds and awesome minis. More than I can paint in a lifetime. Miniature wargames with awesome rulesets are, on the other hand, in short supply. Unlike modern boardgames, most are pretty old-fashioned, stale, with heavy randomness and long upkeep but obvious decisions and simple gamestates that do not promote player agency or creative problem solving (aka - all I do is move models so that they are closer to enemy models and then we roll dice to see who kills whom). Wooo shout out to the dyscalculia crowd! Struggling together as a group, because if we had to take a head count...well...yeah a group of us! It's exactly why I've always loved painting more
The thing about Trench Crusade is that it’s GrimBark Horror is more effective because it’s less “over the top” in its execution. In 40k there’s towers constructed out of the mangled flesh of millions of people who all writhe in horror at their circumstances, gray knights who bathed themselves in innocent blood for some reason, and ofc the tens of thousands of slaves required to reload a gun on a starship. After a certain point it becomes more of a “how edgy can we go” contest rather than actually making something grim.
Papa Nurgle is very pleased. This is like if warhammer focused entirely on Plague Marines, who are my absolute favourite faction and I was always disappointed by the lack of content focusing on them.
I'm glad to be one of the many backers of this, the mini's are on the grimmer side, the rules are streamlined and the lore is well done. Looking forward to it and having my Alchemist crush my enemies.
I backed the Kickstarter and have decided on a Sultinate war band. It was a really tough call as all the factions are great and have some amazing individual sculpts. I can definitely see myself adding more factions to my collection. I've genuinely not been this excited for a new release since GW introduced Apocalypse and the plastic Baneblades and Stompas
I love your energy and positivity and how you can make something so dark evil and scary looking sound like sunshine and rainbows and still getting the message and setting across 🤣 it definitely looks pretty cool, love your content
Thank you so much for introducing this to me! I got in to 40k about 30 years ago (2nd ed) and whilst I still enjoy it, it feels a little more tame and watered down than it used to be. The lore and imagery of Trench Crusade has really grabbed me and I'm already planning how to convert and kitbash various models.
Have you heard of the red brigade? Their a branch of new Antioch made up of people who are grieving of the loss of their friends and family and such, and basically they join the brigade and get sent on suicidal missions but before they move out they have a great big feast called the feast of the dead men, their badass
This channel has turned into my hobby guide. I wish I'd managed to back the kickstarter for this game but I couldn't decide on a warband and couldn't afford to get them all.
I hope people understand that Trench Crusade is not "The game that will destroy Warhammer 40k" because the setting and scope of the battles is different. Medium to big armies clashing in the far future (40k) Vs. Skrimishes between factions in a diesel punk world.
It was never meant to be. The company is just starting out, the game has been brewing on low heat for a while until they kicked into high gear last year and steadily grew the fanbase through word of mouth. Right now the game is at Skirmish level but who knows how the game will look in 5 years of it's still around. They might expand it to a new game that will be mass skirmish on the 40K level or they might not. I doubt even the TC makers know at this point.
Their short videos completely captivated me. Hands down the grimiest, grim dark setting / game I have heard about in a long while. I don't play Warhammer, but as a lifelong (30+ yrs) consumer of TTRPGs I see myself culling a LOT from this world. Those minis, the lore... It's all so damn rad.
Tuomas Pirinen for the rules 👍 Franchina's art with other creators like John Blanche adding their pieces 👍 While there are official models, kitbashing your own models is encouraged 👍 Free👏digital👏rules👏 It’s the antithesis of modern corporate GW that seems to care mostly about how to market theor minis to as many people as possible for the highest amount of money they can get away with.
Im just here to say, this video was the first time I ever heard of this channel or of TC and now... oh gawd, I CANNOT stop looking into TC stuff. The lore is really cool and I the setting grabs my attetion so easily.
Yeah this is a comment from someone who has never really delved into W40k. I've been on a horror spree from W40K and there is a lot of things that makes all the Chaos gods seem like plushies in comparison. Things all the Chaos gods seem to fear. Things the Necrons fear.
The harder they try to make something grimdark, the more new fans will inject positivity into it. Just look at 40k. The recent influx of new fans has created a tsunami of cutesy, silly, lighthearted content that new fans find to be more palatable than the setting they claim to be fans of, and Trench Crusade will have only new fans, exacerbating the issue further
@@seanmadson8524 There more they try to make things cringe, you mean. WH40K doesn't treat itself seriously any more, that's why people think its silly. It's more cringedark than grimdark.
@@MN-jw7mm The 40k universe has had silly aspects since it's inception, if anything that has been toned down since the Rogue Trader days. The thing is, those silly aspects were counterbalanced by the grimdark, and people were thirsty for grimdark, so that became dominant over the silliness so as to not undermine the seriousness of the lore. This new influx of fans I speak of isn't just injecting silliness tho, that would vibe with 40k in an old-school way. Now these new people are trying to make the entirety of 40k politically correct, a safe space for dainty people who are afraid to hear about the grimdark details that have been canon all along. Though the existence of positivity and lightheartedness in 40k does have a place, I disapprove of people trying to focus too much on the positives to the exclusion of all negatives, since this causes the aforementioned dainty individuals to freak out when they stumble upon anything too negative. This ends with the dainty newcomers trying to take down artists and authors who make particularly graphic art/stories and other such inexcusable crybully behavior that disrupts and deters older fans in the community, and also deters newer fans like myself who like 40k for what it actually is.
Tbf to the people that created the warhammer Lore, who are all dead or retired, the religious overtones are actually much better executed than anything trench crusade has yet demonstrated. The chaos gods, the corpse emporer, the xenos representation of hunger, casual violence, pride, sadism, a lot of it is actually way deeper into theological scholarship than Trench Crusade has yet to demonstrate. That's not a dig at TC, they've yet to even rev the engine, but if you dig deeper than just reading the bible and looking at surface level interpretation you'll find tons of Abrahaimic parallels.
Also balls to feature the Sultanate/Muslims as the "good guy" faction fighting literally aided by God fighting against the Heretics... and Ethiopian Coptic Christian troops.
Is it weird that when "adult story time" was said, I immediately pictured myself sitting in a ring of other adults dressed in various TC outfits, sitting criss-cross-applesauce, waiting excitedly for Louise to get started?
One thing i love about Trench Crusade is that while we Muslims are fighting alongside the Christians and Pilgrim's, we 3 have our own methods of waging war. And The Ummah arent an afterthought, we have dont use the same technology ideas as Antioch, we create hommonculi, we create creatures of great strength such as my beloved Brazen Bull, we bless it with the Word of Allah Subhanahu Wa'Talla, we use alchemy and mystical means of creating weapons and armor. Its just awesome to see after so long.

The setting’s intriguing, the art’s fantastic, and the miniatures look spectacular!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 It kinda also reminds me of Doom: The Dark Ages, but with the sci-fi stuff HEAVILY scaled back in favor of an almost steampunk aesthetic.

I believe this is an artist response to the unperceived irony of Warhammer 40K. Not that is wrong having fun with it (I do, like you my bois), is just that being straightforward with "hey man, this reality is deeply hellish, there ain't no good time here" kinda let's you engage in a different way with the art. Dark fantasy at its best, love it!

They had me at "Tuomas Pirinen".
Yeah started following years ago. As a long time Mordheim lover its that easy - I see Tuomas involved I ike :D
It made me pay attention to this game.
@@Fidel_L.Bousquet1970 also John Blanche
I read that Andy Chambers had also joined it.
@@ironbomb6753 That's why I backed.
I had seen some artwork recently thinking it was 40K lore that I didn't know. I think I just got pushed into a new rabbit hole with this video.
I am dyslexic and appreciate you bringing up your stress of war hammer play because I completely relate.
I love your energy and positivity and how you can make something so dark evil and scary looking sound like sunshine and rainbows and still getting the message and setting across 🤣 it definitely looks pretty cool, love your content
This was me trying to be spooky 🤣
@@roguehobbies I grade you "Casper the Friendly Ghost" levels of spooky. And never change!
This right here is why I subscribed to your channel. Your energy is fantastic.
Louise is awesome!
Trench Pilgrims are the coolest little wrongun's I've seen in a while
Have you heard of the red brigade? Their a branch of new Antioch made up of people who are grieving of the loss of their friends and family and such, and basically they join the brigade and get sent on suicidal missions but before they move out they have a great big feast called the feast of the dead men, their badass
I was unreasonably excited throughout the premiere for this video so I'll keep this short...... TRENCH CRUSADE WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Well ... That... And GW stock prices just jumped to the highest they've ever been today.
@kenupton4084 that too!
@@kenupton4084 That's because after 20 years they are releasing new Eldar aspect warriors. lol
Feels like the Tech is more a transition point from Steam to Diesel Punk given the allohistorical setting
Tuomas Pirinen for the rules 👍
Franchina's art with other creators like John Blanche adding their pieces 👍
While there are official models, kitbashing your own models is encouraged 👍
Free👏digital👏rules👏
It’s the antithesis of modern corporate GW that seems to care mostly about how to market theor minis to as many people as possible for the highest amount of money they can get away with.
Thank you for the introduction i shall take a delve into the dark depths!! Looks pretty cool!!
WE'RE ALL GETTING TRENCH PILLED
Excellent video! Very exciting!
You'd have to bend over for that.
You mean entrenched? 🎉
*cucked.
Who the hell is that 'We'?
Im just here to say, this video was the first time I ever heard of this channel or of TC and now... oh gawd, I CANNOT stop looking into TC stuff. The lore is really cool and I the setting grabs my attetion so easily.
I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the amazing paint jobs you and your fellow YT mini painters cook up!
40k is really grimdark as a dark comedy. Trench Warfare seems to be grimdark as straight horror.
You have no idea wtf youre talking about 😂
Yeah this is a comment from someone who has never really delved into W40k. I've been on a horror spree from W40K and there is a lot of things that makes all the Chaos gods seem like plushies in comparison. Things all the Chaos gods seem to fear. Things the Necrons fear.
40k memelore makes it a dark comedy. Its actual lore isnt comedic in the slightest.
You really don’t know 40k lore if you think that
@@JohnJohnson-mf3dvlol bro so many people that have no idea about 40k are just ridding this game
40k embraces a bit of a fun side to things, while Trench Crusade embraces Grim Dark even more.
Both are fantastic settings
Too bad the discord is full of woketards
The harder they try to make something grimdark, the more new fans will inject positivity into it. Just look at 40k. The recent influx of new fans has created a tsunami of cutesy, silly, lighthearted content that new fans find to be more palatable than the setting they claim to be fans of, and Trench Crusade will have only new fans, exacerbating the issue further
@@seanmadson8524also tons of funny Vtubers.
So basically this is just Warhammer but with the balls to name the religion it's based on
Tbf to the people that created the warhammer Lore, who are all dead or retired, the religious overtones are actually much better executed than anything trench crusade has yet demonstrated.
Also balls to feature the Sultanate/Muslims as the "good guy" faction fighting literally aided by God fighting against the Heretics... and Ethiopian Coptic Christian troops.
and less colorful as well, but yes too many themes are exactly the same lol
@@BlashmackYep yep yep
But not big enough balls to add Jews.
Is it weird that when "adult story time" was said, I immediately pictured myself sitting in a ring of other adults dressed in various TC outfits, sitting criss-cross-applesauce, waiting excitedly for Louise to get started?
"So, is this game more grim dark than Warhammer 40k? I think it might be!" I never heard such words pronounced with such chipper and bubbly delivery.
Even from my tiny shoe, I've heard of Trench Crusade.
"... living in a tiny little shoe" I take offense to that! It's quite a comfortably sized shoe, thank you 😆Great video!
I look forward to seeing your Sultanate Warband painted in glorious Rogue colours!
Great video, tabletop time has a video out on the game too, great to see more people getting to hear and see what's going on.
I loved the holy chant in the background of this video. I'm also looking forward to some TC mini painting videos from you Louise. ❤👍
That is a very cool thing to include in the game, alright! Funny how a utopian ideal of peace between the religions is in such a dark story lol
Yeah!
@@samprastherabbitnot really utopian but realistic. Would really you start fighting a holy war with people who share the same Abrahamic god as you when the gates of hell are literally open and demons are pouring in dead set on torturing all of humanity for eternity?
@@jira6423 It's something like, "We believe in the same god in different ways and we may have a lot of arguments, but LOOK, THIS PIECE OF SHIT IS COMING RIGHT AT US!!! GRAB YOUR GUN AND LET'S SHOW HIM WHOSE GOD IS COOLER!!!"
Super cool, I really like your way of presenting - bright, enthusiastic and fun. And thanks, for introducing to something so discusting and intruiguing at the same time - kind of Hellraiser vibes there.
Thank you for this video I was completely oblivious to this happening, I was following you on Instagram and never watched a video. But you have just gained a subscriber I love your enthusiasm and the great use of language, quick but very understandable it kept my squirrel brain completely focused on this video.
Ty Lady!!!! This setting is my kinda Jam I've seen it on the edges of my radar and it looks incredible😊
Holy crap! This is the darkest RE lesson I’ve ever had 😳
I think 40k’s aesthetic is still more unique and striking. But this game looks cool id be open to trying it out.
I loooove the Warhammer aesthetic so much too
Yeah this isnt going to make it....
40ks aesthetic always seemed tacky and campy to me. I like this realistic grotesqueness.
What a great primer on Trench Crusade! I loved your take on the game and the community and the whole phenomenon in general.
Looks like they have Graham McNeil onboard… he’s a real heavy hitter !!
I’m a Christian and I’m starting to love the whole idea behind Trench Crusade!
I'm taking a survey, do you think that homosexuality is a sin.
I love all the Hell factions.
I'm getting all the heretic legion minis and the extra weapons and stuff.
I'm so excited to get my hands on these.
I'm also super-excited to see you (hopefully) do painting guides for these.
Power play move by the roguest of Rogues with the Trench Crusade. Love your content.
never heard of pandorum looks really cool thanks for mentioning it
The Iron Sultanate is so cool. The lore, the miniatures...*chef's kiss*
Sultanate reminds me so much of some of the stuff from Berserk. The whole setting makes me feel like this is the result of everything just continued to be bad in Berserk.
Mashallah.
It's so rad. I'm also excited to see if they explore the Hebrew knights and Ethiopian factions casually mentioned.
But also I just wanna kitbash some wild homonculii and alchemists
I don't do wargaming, I am strictly a lore man and have been following trench crusade for a couple years now back when it was just art and world building.
I am pumped for it. I love how grimdark the setting is.
Never heard of it until 20 minutes ago. Just came from a certain will known 40k RUclipsr who skimmed the surface of this and it kind of peeked my interest. Saw your video for abit more information. Not a table top player but I do have interest in the lore.
Somehow missed the Kickstarter but this thing looks awesome! Great intro video too, thanks!!
LETS GO ROGUE HOBBIES
Just now building a Mordheim table.... Maybe a Trench Crusade table is next :) Great video. Thanks!
Love the creative inclusivity. All welcome!
When you're fighting Shaitan, you don't have the choice of being picky against literal evil.
If all are welcome how come they were mass banning people from their socials and discord?
Another game that would go with the theme is Blashpemous. I think you might like it. glad i found your channel
Thank you for this introduction!
Whole yt creates clips such as yours, props for inspiration and originality.
Brings back memories of clive barker’s jericho game
As a traditional, God-fearing, Catholic man, I bloody loved this!!
I've got a feeling that the designers were inspired by Nemesis the Warlock from 2000AD
the art style, and particularly the demons and their runes, as well as the overall scale of the vast hellish landscapes in the paintings remind me heavily of barlowes inferno
As a child I yearned for the trenches!
This setting is amazing! Along with 40k! However if there’s one thing i cant wait for, is an animation story, whether long or short, to show its full grimness of this setting!
Competition breeds better products and services for the customer. Let The Games Wars Begin!
8:28 “Highly Heretical” is a glorious new reaction meme waiting to burst onto the scene
Heeeey, fellow dyscalculia here!
I like the subtle allegory for constant and unending struggle that Lousie added to this video with the fight between her shoulders and her sleeves. It is a lovely top, but that shirt was determined to put the War in wardrobe this episode!
My army is called The Fallen Stars of Aschtrolos, the Birthing Star. It is a cour if the seven headed serpent lust warband lead by Praetor turned daemon lord Aschstrolos, The Birthing Star who was ine of the angels who gave life to the night sky but they became lustfully obssessed with all mortal emotions from rage to love and even those mortals have yet to learn about. When the gate opened Aschstrolos saw their opportunity to grow qnd make there warpath to their rightfull place at the court as the head of lust
You need a better name. Look up on google what "trolo" means in Spanish. That it is preceded by what sounds like "ass" in German makes it even worse.
I work at the National WWI Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, MO USA.
Found out about this game a week ago and can't wait to get started on terrain while ruminating over what faction to embrace!
There are a lot of other WW1 wargames too that you can reuse your terrain for, possibly even the minis.
I would love to see you do more lore videos on anything. Your energy and style are perfect to make it feel like documented lore! so good!!
As someone with dyscalculia as well, I am very excited by their dice system
the world's most bubbliest person describing the grimmest-darkness to ever grim dark = fantastic video!
Great, this gives me the vibe of what Berserk did with the 100 Year War.
The hobby always gains so much when you get a new hyperfocus, though I hope you're remembering to blink, eat and sleep
I'll blink eat and sleep when im DEAD!
Wow, lots of those miniatures look fantastic. Great to know i'll be able to print them myself too
As a Christian theologian, I don’t think I could’ve asked for a better setting of a war game. The themes are impeccable and I cannot wait for more lore. If there isn’t going to be a book series I will riot
Same ❤
I don't know much about the setting beyond this video. If the creators don't alter God or Jesus then I'm all in on the game
@ I mean, you can almost guarantee there’ll be something like that will happen. There’s a lot of Roman Catholic superstition involved, but it is just a game so I guess you make the call
As a massive Cawdor fan with over 60 minutures in my gang I can not go past the Trench Pilgrims. Great Video!
Looks a bit tooo grim dark for me, I am off to hug my nurgling plushy and rock in the corner till the wife gets back
Saw Trench Crusade start popping up in my feed a month ago... loving everything about it!
