Why isn't Cornet allowed to take off her shirt but Djokovic is? Maybe because she's standing on the court whereas he's sitting near the chair. The umpire was probably too zealous but the real and embarrassing mistake came from Usta: they said the umpire was wrong and that a player can change his/her shirt only when sitting by the umpire. So, the umpire was right...
The only level comparison of any male player would be if a male player took off his tennis shorts revealing his underwear whilst donning new shorts. So no underwear reveal on courts Is the issue and that rule should stand.
That would be perhaps a logical level of comparison but the Usta statement was clear and had nothing to do with underwear: “All players can change their shirts when sitting in the player chair. [...]. Female players, if they choose, may also change their shirts in a more private location close to the court, when available”. The journalist in this video should have shown a male player taking off his shirt standing on court and not receiving a code violation; showing Djokovic sitting in his chair was mere intellectual dishonesty. @@Lauren-vd4qe
