I'm embarrassed to say that I've had this drivetrain for over 1 year and never realized this.
As far as being able to adjust each cog. That was proposed to the SRAM AXS mobile forum a few years ago (SRAM website where you could ask for a new AXS function and people would vote if they wanted it). This particular request got shut down by a SRAM admin with the following answer: "If the derailleur hanger is non-damaged and the frame is designed to industry frame-fit specifications, trim position should not need to be tuned for individual cogs. That work is carefully completed by SRAM engineers as part of the cassette and rear derailleur design process." Kind of a crock of you ask me. I know my gears would benefit greatly if I could adjust each one individually.
We may have had it in a shop profile beta profile, because at one point it was definitely an option. But I'm guessing they may have found an issue with it, and may fix that in a further release. I just hope they figure out away to make it reverse compatible for the older derailleurs.
I had my hopes up for a second while watching the video @ 7:38. All my SRAM AXS equipped bikes shift badly so much so I am fed up with it. Micro adjust per gear on a cassette would make EVERYTHING so much better. It is an extremely short sighted approach by SRAM. Such a pity. It seems their trust in their engineers is a little misplaced. 😮💨

Important knowledge. This week I was riding and found I couldn't access my 2 lowest climbing gears. Not being TOTALLY ignorant I tried doing a micro adjustment but no improvement. At the end of the ride I found that the chain coming off my pulley was actually touching the cassette teeth when I shifted to the climbing gears. Yeah it was in there for a while, then right after we filmed the video they took it out. I think some people may have been misusing the feature and messing up their chains. We personally loved it, and hope they bring it back.
Awesome video. Thanks for getting right to it and explaining everything so clearly. Just tuned up my AXS and it’s shifting awesome based on your video.
Great vid! one question though, I think SRAM instructs to do the B screw sagged but you dont mention it or seem to do it - in fact I tend to not have much sag when adjusting as I feel the cage doesnt clear the big cogs fast enough if I do the adjust fully sagged?
For most bikes it doesn't matter that much, but for bikes that have a LOT of chain growth, you would be correct. In hindsight, we should have explained that.
@@SingleTrackSurgeon In case of my Canyon Spectral:ON 2022 this actually caused an issue in shifting performance. Since I've done it fully sagged, the shifting is way better. Visually I had to adjust by about 4-5 mm closer while it was sagged.

This video doesn't mention having the rear suspension at the sag point (30% or whatever) when setting the B-gap. If you adjust it as shown, it will shift great on the stand and like crap when riding. Of course different rear geometry might affect this more or less, but don't believe anyone who says it doesn't matter if the bike is sagged when setting B-gap. Once you do that once, you can measure what it looks like with the bike on the stand (and the suspension fully extended). On mine, the difference at the test point is about 8mm!

I think microadjusting each cog on bigger and smaller end of cassette individually on the app instead of adjusting the entire derailluer manually doing it with the shifter/controller is needed like you say is possible but I'm unable to achieve this on the app. Any tips on figuring out the app to microadjust differently for different gears/cogs? Thanks!
Hey Sean, we will be doing a full video on the app soon. Use the general shifting behavior to set the micro adjustment with the shifter, then you can fine tune later.
@@SingleTrackSurgeon I have the same question on how to micro adjust each gear through the SRAM phone app. I don’t see any arrows either to do the fine tuning of each gear. When I am in my largest cog if I rotate the cranks backwards just a bit the chain will jump several cogs lower in the rear and the derailleur isn't moving. This is important that this does not happen because many times I am trying to clean technical and have to start again by backpedalling a bit which means I am always in the wrong gear requiring me to manually spin the cranks to the granny gear and get back on the bike. Should I try moving the cranks inward to compensate what I think is a chainline issue and is probably considered normal or is there another trick with AXS ? Yeti SB-140 11/52
Thanks for the detailed explanation. I just took delivery of a Canyon Spectral CF 9 with AXS GX. As others have alluded, I cannot micro adjust individual cogs with app v2.0.27. My main problem is that when I put the chain on the largest gear and back pedal, I hear a rasping noise and the chain drops to second gear. What could be wrong? I haven't discussed this issue with the friendly Canyon support yet due to other priorities.
So there are a few things at play here. The 12 speed systems are not great at holding the largest cog if you back pedal, due to the chain being so tweaked to the side. Also if you have a chain guide, make sure it is clearing it completely, something I should have pointed out in the video. Lastly, make sure that your limit screw allows for the chain to properly seat on that largest gear and you have just a little bit of room there.
@@SingleTrackSurgeon Thanks! There is no chain guide. I turned limit screw a quarter, but no change. Indeed, from a top view the chain looks quite tweaked to the side. Same outcome with chain on 2nd largest cog. I discussed the issue with 2 LBS, which they didn't even bother to look at the bike. I was told not to back pedal. I read an article in MTBR dot com, which mentioned incorrect installation of spacers in BB as a potential cause. My B-limit is perfect with bike on stand, I haven't checked it with sag yet.
@@SingleTrackSurgeon Canyon (online sales only) support offered a small refund for drivetrain adjustment at a local bike shop. However, the verdict from all LBS I visited, including a Specialized store, is that no adjustment can fix the problem. It is a permanent problem. I do not know how BB spacers look in a SRAM AXS drivetrain and if any spacers are present in my BB. I haven't done any steep technical climbing yet, so no need to backpedal on 1st/2nd gear. Canyon also offered to refund the AXS battery cage which was missing from my bicycle.
Are you sure that micro adjustment is possible on each cog? As far as I know, when it adjusts, it's the same as if it were cable, it messes with all the cogs at the same time, not individually.
When the app initially launched there was that option, but I'm not sure if they did away with that in any software updates. I'll check the next time I adjust my derailleur.
Quick question. I always get a noisier shift going from the 3rd from the largest to the 2nd largest and to the 50t. Derailleur hanger is straighter checked with my park tool. B screw is correct with tool under sag and the chain is the correct length. Any suggestions?
Sometimes it's a search and destroy mission to find what is affecting shifting. Sometimes it's the spacing on the front chain ring too. Too far in or out can affect shifting quite a bit, especially at the top of the cassette in those larger rings.
I have all the gears adjusted perfectly except for the 2nd cog, and it makes the same sound as in 6:47. Is this something you have seen with AXS? It's too bad the app doesn't allow the Microadjust for that one single cog.
Hi 👋 there I watched your video regarding the sram asx setup. I have couple question. I have problem setting up my asx derailleur. I have 2017 Rocky Mountain Element 970 RSL. My Stock group set are XT cassette 11spd 11-46 T, XTR rear derailleur And race face crank. I upgraded now Sram PG-1230 NX Eagle HG 12spd Cassette 11-50T And Sram ASX XX1 upgrade kit. The problem is I won’t stay at 50T cog I goes down.
When you use the white tool on a full suspension bike, what's the correct way to do it well? Talking about the sag, because once you're on the bike it changes completely
This specific tool was designed to work without adjusting at sag, however if you have a bike with a massive amount of chain growth through the stroke it could be beneficial to fine tune that at your chosen sag settings.
Yeah, as I said in an earlier comment, for bikes with lots of chain growth doing the adjustment at sag would fine tune it a bit. My Rocky Mountain Altitude does just fine doing the adjustment with the bike on the stand.
Great video. Are you sure you can micro adjust for each gear? Not seeing that feature in the app at all. However, it looks like on road bikes you can. thanks
It seems like I'm the current app build they took that feature out. I already submitted a request to bring it back. It really helped when chain wear got worse on specific cogs, so hopefully they bring it back.
@@SingleTrackSurgeon I just swapped over to 10-52 from a perfectly shifting 10-50. It is very close to shifting as well as the old setup, but I know some small tweaks on a few cogs would dial it in way better than the one-size-fits-all option they are giving us now.
I could be wrong, but I think the earliest AXS derailleurs were not created with 52 in mind. Either way, I would bet that it is a very subtle bend in your hanger. For me that fixes it 99.6% of the time. I like to hit things with mine. 🤣
I'm thinking the Rear derailleur hanger causing it. I'm using the stock rear derailleur hanger that comes with the Shimano XTR derailleur. Should I buy SRAM hanger? Or any advice? Thank you
Theoretically, the hanger wouldn't be brand specific but just made for the bike so any derailleur would be in the correct spot. But I would suggest getting a North Shore Billet hanger. They are the best by far, and that way you know it's correct.
As always, Great video/tutorial! Ive seen and heard that gx axs works perfectly with shimano 51t cassettes. Have you guys dealt with this combo before?
I would doubt that it works "perfectly" but with the right settings adjustment it should work. But then again you have to make sure that you have one of the newer ones, because the first gen AXS do not work with any cassette higher than 50t.
Micro adjust does not work per gear, it is global for all gears… I have spent two hours trying to adjust it perfectly but still lower gears are noisy..
Is it possibe to limit the SRAM AXS to the smallest 9 or 10 cogs only? I’m looking for a solution to my son 20” bike. His hands are small for the mechanical shifter.
Just wondering if anyone can advise what the default value is for microshift on the app to start indexing, as the only way to have shift okish from 1-10 is value 28/31, but then it won't shift up from 12-11 unless I go 2 clicks less, which then causes issues at 2. It's a new asx unit along with a new hanger, and b tension set at sag, before anyone asks, never had then issue with my previous Axs unit.
Obviously this is unlikely, but the derailleur itself might be tweaked ever so slightly causing the issue. I also noticed a firmware update pop up in my app last night, and I went ahead and checked out what the fix was and it mentioned some indexing issues. Start there and make sure your unit is up to date with that firmware before looking at other options.
@@SingleTrackSurgeon done, its better but still not perfect, ill re-tweak the hanger, to be fair I dont ever use those hwy gears anyway, the 10,11tooth gears.
Good video. Good to know about the microadjustment with the shifter. But it's even better with the SRAM AXS app -- gives a range from 1 to 31 positioning, on each cog. Was a lifesaver for me.
So I'm shifting but the chain doesn't move up the cassett. I have to push it again and sometimes it then jumps to gears. I guess I need to do some micro adjustments right?
Correct, if you are having trouble in one direction and there is a delay. You hold the bottom and press in the direction where the lag occurs. For example, if your are struggling to get into an easier gear, you would hold the bottom and micro adjust by pressing the direction for an easier gear to move the derailleur in that direction.
The short answer is "yes". But many bikes have little or no chain growth which don't require for the b-tension to be set at sag because its not moving. But there are are some models that have significant chain growth where the b-tension MUST be set at sag. That is not the case for this make and model.
ruclips.net/video/Gaa_whvNlQM/видео.html The big pain though is that on full susp, b-tension should be done under sag? So either need two ppl or remove air from the shock and use a strap?
Like numerous others, I have problems accessing either the highest or lowest cog on the cassette. It seems to be one or t'other! The derailleur hanger is not bent, the limit screws are in the correct place and I have the correct spacer on my BB. The App no longer allows you to microadjust individual gears as you ascertained in the video. The screen on the App does exist but does not respond when pressed in any way. In my case the chain catches slightly on the second to smallest cog when I put the chain in my smallest cog. Neither the normal microadjustment, nor resetting the limit screws allows enough movement for the chain to shift completely clear of the second to last cog. The recent Firmware Update has reinstated the microadjustment of individual cogs on the App. However, it would seem that by adjusting one gear, all the other gears are affected. Much in the same way when you do it in the normal way with the controller. One old school hack that people may want to try is to set up their derailleur so that the problem is with the smallest cog. That way if you install a small washer or two between the rear derailleur and the derailleur hanger, the derailleur will be effectively moved out by a millimetre and will sit in the centre of the cog. It sure worked with mine! Thanks for the best video on YT regarding setting things up on AXS... 👏🏽
I too am really bummed that they removed that individual cog feature. The one thing we didn't go over in the video is chain length. Depending on the bike, I would guess that your chain may be too long if you cannot get into your largest cog and your b screw tension is set correctly. Give that a try, and let me know if that fixes the problem.
You forgot to mention that the B-gap adjustment, for a full suspension bike, must be done at sag, per SRAM instructions. Adjusting the gap on a stand is not the correct method. Thanks for the video.
In most cases chain growth is so small that this doesn't matter and you can adjust in the stand. Some bikes that feature more drastic chain growth due to strange suspension kinematics, you would have to factor that in. The description from SRAM is saying that in the nicest way possible. 👍🏼
So this messed something entirely. I didn't see anywhere in the video where it says if it will not go into your highest gear. Nowhere in the app does it show to fix that. Limit screw is set to allow it to go down further and it will not shift up that far
Hi, is there a video on how to micro adjust each gear in the app? I have played around with the app and if you micro adjust 1 gear , it apples this to all gears just like manually doing it on the shifters. Eg . I’m in gear number 11 and micro adjust to setting 15. Now I witness every gear is setting 15.
@@georgiegirl2001 you cant micro adjust each gear. The micro adjustment goes across the whole casette much like a cable barrel adjuster. It would be really awesome if they did do each gear tho. Totally possible with software
The bike is solid and my Ebike conversion went great. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Very smooth ride at 30mph with no problems (135 miles ridden so far). The picture is a bit deceiving - there is WAY less space in the center of the frame than it shows. The suspension connection takes up the entire thing. So I needed to attach my battery on the bottom of the frame and my controller on the top. Instructions for assembly were lacking but honestly it wasn't too hard to figure out even though I have very little bike knowledge. Watched some youtube videos on adjusting the disk brakes but that was it. Still, I am loving it and very happy with the purchase.
That would all depend on the specific frame. I don't know the weight or lengths of every model of every brand. You can find those on the sram page to see what size chain to use.
Wild that a seasoned mechanic calls it a "drivechain". Thats like your chef asking how you like your Pasketti. Also didn't mention to set this up under rider seated sag for B-tension. I'd avoid your shop like the plague.

Great point, I forgot to mention bb spacers. If you are too far or, there is no way that the shifting in the largest cogs will be smooth.
I have the same issue, I just don't want to so anymore. I changed hanger, casette, and re indexed endlessly at no avail
Is there any micro ajastment method for front derailleur?
Thanks fellas great tutorial.
Our pleasure!
Dude, such a great tutorial. Thanks 🙏🏽
Glad it was helpful!
Just saved this vid. Solid info here.
Glad it was helpful!
Will this work for my GT 9 speed? I I’m using a sram 9 speed cassette on my profile hubs.
Same question here.
@@Scooter-K The individual cog micro adjust does not exist in the app anymore.
@@GokkunGuru it exists, it just doesn’t have the buttons for left and right
@@cashanderson6521 can you elaborate on this?
We might see it show up on transmission soon, just waiting for a firmware update.
great explanation, thank you.
Hi 👋 there I watched your video regarding the sram asx setup.
I have couple question. I have problem setting up my asx derailleur.
I have 2017 Rocky Mountain Element 970 RSL. My Stock group set are
XT cassette 11spd 11-46 T, XTR rear derailleur
And race face crank.
I upgraded now Sram PG-1230 NX Eagle HG 12spd Cassette 11-50T
And Sram ASX XX1 upgrade kit.
The problem is I won’t stay at 50T cog I goes down.
Check your limit screw, most likely that is the culprit.
Why did they remove the micro adjustment from the app?
Could they maybe make a B-tool that doesn’t break?
How are you breaking them??? 🤣
@@SingleTrackSurgeon tossing it into my tool bag. It’s made from a very brittle plastic. Believe it doesn’t take much. Are you listening SRAM?
Mine was broken on arrival!
However, it looks like on road bikes you can. thanks
I can't find that option too
It seems like I'm the current app build they took that feature out.
@@SingleTrackSurgeon great to know! I appreciate the info
@@SingleTrackSurgeon is there any obvious thing to look for, for the newest gx axs? Thanks
Theoretically if you set limits you could keep it between less cogs. You would just have to set everything else up differently.
But those are the best ones 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
@@SingleTrackSurgeon sorted , tweaked hanger , and 1 link out shifts pretty good now
Awesome! Glad to hear it!
Good of you to mention it, but having the shifters reversed from stock is going to confuse a whole lotta people re: microadjsutment.
Reversing it is the way to go... but that's just my preference.
Good video. Good to know about the microadjustment with the shifter. But it's even better with the SRAM AXS app -- gives a range from 1 to 31 positioning, on each cog. Was a lifesaver for me.
Aren’t you supposed to place in sag first??
So I'm shifting but the chain doesn't move up the cassett. I have to push it again and sometimes it then jumps to gears. I guess I need to do some micro adjustments right?
Correct, if you are having trouble in one direction and there is a delay. You hold the bottom and press in the direction where the lag occurs. For example, if your are struggling to get into an easier gear, you would hold the bottom and micro adjust by pressing the direction for an easier gear to move the derailleur in that direction.
@@SingleTrackSurgeon thanks for the help. Just realised I used “to” instead of “two”. I feel a bit foolish now. Please don’t judge me😀
Should b tension not be adjusted when bike is in sag?
Yes, it should. You need someone riding the bike (or the end user :) meanwhile checking the arrow points at the middle of the pulley.
Great Video! New Subscriber, Thanks guys…. 🇺🇸
Thanks brother 🤘🏼 Welcome to the channel.
Shouldn't B-Tension be set when the rider is on the bike (under load)?
The short answer is "yes". But many bikes have little or no chain growth which don't require for the b-tension to be set at sag because its not moving. But there are are some models that have significant chain growth where the b-tension MUST be set at sag. That is not the case for this make and model.
Lots of hidden nuggets in operating the AXS. Thx for sharing!
Happy to share the tips and tricks 👍🏼
ruclips.net/video/Gaa_whvNlQM/видео.html The big pain though is that on full susp, b-tension should be done under sag? So either need two ppl or remove air from the shock and use a strap?
Forgot say fantastic video!!
Glad you liked it!
Is 'drive chain' 'drive train' in American?!!
So this messed something entirely. I didn't see anywhere in the video where it says if it will not go into your highest gear. Nowhere in the app does it show to fix that. Limit screw is set to allow it to go down further and it will not shift up that far
If you are having additional issues like that, there might be another issue like chain length or a bent hanger.
you CANT micro adjust each gear individually . Only on roadbikes
It was in the app for MTB briefly, but in a recent update they removed it. Hopefully it comes back soon.
Definitely would be a much needed feature..
Being able to micro adjust every gear is so spicy. Thank you!
Glad you like it spicy
Hi, is there a video on how to micro adjust each gear in the app? I have played around with the app and if you micro adjust 1 gear , it apples this to all gears just like manually doing it on the shifters.
Eg . I’m in gear number 11 and micro adjust to setting 15. Now I witness every gear is setting 15.
@@SingleTrackSurgeonlooks like is still not possible to adjust cogs individually
@friedpork_owl have you tried in the app?
@@georgiegirl2001 you cant micro adjust each gear. The micro adjustment goes across the whole casette much like a cable barrel adjuster. It would be really awesome if they did do each gear tho. Totally possible with software
WRONG. you cannot individually trim each gear independently. Micro adjust effects all gears.
Unfortunately they took that ability to micro-adjust specific gears out of the app one week after filming this video... of course.
If it had the individually micro adjust it would be the perfect sistem
Wheeltop EDS has an that micro fine tune each gear I'm very tempted
@SingleTrackSurgeon why would they do that? Sounds like a move to get you to buy the new one eh
I'd avoid your shop like the plague.
drive train (not drive chain)
chain driven drive train 👍🏼
@SingleTrackSurgeon very funny, hilarious even, but nobody calls them that 🤣
The bicycle that starts moving in a gear that corresponds to the terrain can be called safe only. This is easy ruclips.net/video/qprII2Y-dGA/видео.html

Lol too expensive for my bike...
It is a pretty awesome option!
