Kobe had always been the baby for the couple, so it’s only natural that he thought the toys were for him. Glad he took on the role of big brother well.

Yes!! Animals are part of the family too and they deserve to be treated as such. There are cases where it gets to be tricky though. When my cousin gave birth to her firstborn, her cat turned from very interested to very jealous. They still paid a lot of attention to the kitty, but they drew the line when she started getting aggressive with the baby and scratched her across the face really bad. They had her stay with a family member and they found her a new home with a family with older children and adults. It was sad for them to say goodbye, but she wasn’t happy in a home with divided attention and needed better accommodations. I’m just glad they didn’t dump her in a shelter. They had a pit bull at the time too and he did really well with the baby, possibly too well lol. He would lick her face until it was sopping wet and they’d playfully scold him for making her smell like dog 😂 He was very sweet!
@small_and_dangerous2068 this. At the end of the day, if an animal is a danger to the child.its best to find the animal a new home, especially if attempts to train the animal not to hurt the child are failing. They are smart but they still mostly operate on instinct and not rational thoughts
I lived with my dad when I had my first daughter (1986) and he had a Dobie. She would just start to cry and Blitz was on the case! He would run to me, back to her, etc until I got to her. He also did not allow anyone near "his baby" except me and my dad! It was hilarious! RIP Blitz...that baby is 37 years old now.
I know human babies are supposed to be the priority, but it is nice to see this couple take so much extra time making Kobe comfortable with the big change. Particularly, with one dog/cat households, they can genuinely have a hard time adjusting to not being the sole-focus of all of their owners love and attention. It’s just really sweet how much mom and dad have done to include and show affection to Kobe.
What else would the mom and dad for that baby do? Obviously they should and must show affection to the pet, pets, if they stop the affection just bcz they become parents and so on then they are not good pet owners or people at all.
@Vero2yu Dude a child is more important than pets if the level of affection,time and attention goes down that's natural as long as they feed, walk, vet visits,park days and the daily belly rub that's it an animal is not more precious than a human life all that extra stuff is done when extra time is afforded your bringing a human life into this world planning and things never end making sure that child is safe stable loved etc is your first and most important priority

The child needs their parents to be mentally, physically, financially, socially and spirituality ready to take care of them. Each of those categories has world of meaning behind them for a parent to be mentally ready alone means the child needs parents who save money for college, school,nutrients, home education, love, patience, encouragement so many other things and that's just one categorie a child needs their parents until their brains have fully developed in order to properly lead them into society so that they can be useful not only to themselves but to others so no the dog being downgraded in terms of importance is beyond paternal emotions but the most logical thing based off everything we intrinsically know. Dogs don't really need anything from us they are animals they survive off instinct providing them with food, water, space and vets visits are perfectly fine but even then that's not really needed so what extra steps does the dog really need?

Props to the parents for muzzling Kobe during the baby's first meeting. It's hard to predict how your dog can react at times, and overexcitement in dogs can lead to biting, so I'm glad they were prepared so as to prevent any accidents. Even though they knew Kobe very well, they still took the steps to make the first meeting as safe as possible :) these guys are gonna be good parents

This is not unusual. Golden Retrievers are known to be wonderful family pets. As the child grows older, the doggie will get more and more attached. He will fight to the death to protect his little sister. Enjoy the good times together.

I wouldn’t recommend it, especially near the face, as babies are very susceptible to…basically everything, and you never know what a dog’s been eating.
Goldens around babies and toddlers are full of special moments. They already love everyone, but to see how they interact with little ones really shows how smart they are - they know they are around a little human! They know they must be gentle and protect, and in return, they will have a new best friend for the rest of their lives.

I can't shake the feeling at some points she's enabling, confusing, & encouraging inappropriate behaviors... she allows kobe to continue a behavior in order to use the behavior for content (mostly struck me in the toy-stealing parts), i think it's confusing for him if she's using scolding language but in an affectionate tone... he may not understand what it means to be recorded for content, but he absolutely understands what it is for him, & that's attention, & that attention is a reward; an encouragement to repeat the behavior... i'm not saying kobe's a poorly behaved dog or that she's not a good pet owner, it just kinda stuck out to me as something... off... 😕

You know, these stories are really sweet and it is great to see the relationship between our pets and us be a symbiotic one. The one thing that always gets me about these 'baby/dog' or 'baby/cat' or 'baby/' stories is how new parents let the dogs or the cats or whatever animals LICK THE FACES OF NEWBORN BABIES! Then they are so shocked when the baby gets sick. Dude! Dogs spend all day with their noses on the ground...THEN they lick their B@LLS....THEEEN then come and lick your baby's face. It disgusts me that people let their dogs lick their babies. Especially their newborns.
Did you really expect a brain in them? Just hear the way the female speaks, like the pet owner, also that clothing on the baby. They are insane and acting as if the pet, some animal, are related to them which they clearly are not nor can ever be.

Our terrier mix knew also about my wifes pregnancy...he got very protective of her. I could not even rub my wifes belly w out him growling or snapping at me. 😮
