Kate, this was an excellent instructional video. I made clothing years ago, but have been working on quilting for the last few years. My body memory ran high when watching you work with the pattern & when you were easing in the sleeves. And then binding a COAT! Watching this video was a funny kind of fun. This coat is now added to my list. Thanks so much.
Miss Kate, I just watch the video where you had helped Karen make her quilt duster. You are so nice to help her!! Her muslin version looks great thanks to you.
You are such an inspiration! So nice to meet you today, and thank you for showing me around your shop. Love your clamshell jacket! Thank you for the tutorial! Can’t wait to try my hand at it… you made it look so easy. Glad to have found you today in Missoula! You’ll be seeing me again!
I enjoyed your tutorial on a quilted coat. Years ago, I made a couple of quilted jackets for my mother. The quilted leftovers were used for some parts of teddy bears-on the front, it made the bear look like it was wearing a vest. The inside of the ears (part that faced foreword), bottom of the feet, and the top middle of the head also used the quilted parts. Soft corduroy or denim made up the rest of the bear. The bears made great gifts and making them brings back memories of my mom.
I have searched & searched for clear instructions to make my jacket. You won hands down! I will be watching this loads of times!Thank you, from Lin in the U.K.!!
This was a fantastic video. I’ve wanted to make a quilted coat since high school and I’m about to have my 50th class reunion next year. Perhaps I’ll actually get it done! Either way you’ve inspired me to. Thank you.
This video was so inspiring! The instructions were clear and specific with such great detail and guidance on the challenging parts. Sure liked your matching nail polish with the fabric too! I am already planning my quilted coat! Thank you.
I really enjoyed this video and found it extremely helpful......I am definitely going to give this a go. So glad I happened on this, just what I've been looking for. TFS
I have been wanting to quilt a coat for a few years now but did not know how. You are a super tutor, thank you. I will give it a go. Could I please request if you would not mind showing how you quilted the coat. Did you use template to draw lines or free motion. Many thanks for your help.
Thank you for this clear video. I'm an experienced quilter and sewer. Could you just clarify at what point would you make the welted pockets? Thank you
I would make the welted pockets before I sew the shoulder seams. I made a video showing how to make them, even tho I was too lazy to add them to my coat!
Thank you. At 16.30 (finishing the clam shells) you say 'and just trim it away'. So you just cut away the muslin fabric? As close to the shell as you can - but doesnt that show on the edges of the top clams? And do you then top stitch all the clams to another cotton (the top layer of the quilt - the solid purple)?
I'd like to see how the clamshells go on the solid yoke. Are they fused and then stitched? I thought the top row had muslin behind it. I love the coat and the video is very helpful.
Because I did a round back adjustment, I created two back pieces instead of one on the fold. The two pieces curved at the top, which would make pattern matching difficult, so I extended the yoke to where the pattern pieces straightened out. I wish I had also extended the yokes in front to below the darts!
Kate, making something with clamshells has been on my to do list. Now a useful spring/fall jacket makes it so great. Your video explanations were superb, and I'm a retired teacher so that's high praise! BTW, I bought the regular Tamarack pattern, not knowing it was for a B cup. Any suggestions on how I can place a dart for this D cup gal? Thanks in advance!
The easiest solution is to just buy another pattern. You can also learn to do a full bust adjustment. I made a video of how to do it way back when my husband was filming me in my sewing room. The Palmer Pletsch Complete Guide to Fitting has all the details. ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Kate. Loved your video. i have what is probably a stupid question....you sewed the clamshells onto the muslin....what happens to the muslin when the clamshells go onto the fabric....thanks....
Hello Kate. I am new to your site and tried to order the jacket pattern and the clamshell interfacing. But am having issues with checking out. At this point I either have ordered multiples or none. Don't know which. I would appreciate your help. Thanks Betty
Arching again your tutorial,. I have another ?, could I make the quilt big enough for the jacket, cut the pattern without quilting, I don’t have a long arm, and the batting and back and join it to each and then quilt?

I got 5 quilt sandwiches ready (for the fronts, back and sleeves), and sent them to a longarmer. Then I cut out the pattern pieces! 😂
@@ConfidentStitch thank you

Fantastic dart tutorial!
Glad you think so!
Thank you.

I just fused the top row to the yoke for the front and back pieces. No need for the muslin in that situation. 😀
Lovely coat! Great info. How did you determine how far in front and back you would make the yoke? Thanks.
Because I did a round back adjustment, I created two back pieces instead of one on the fold. The two pieces curved at the top, which would make pattern matching difficult, so I extended the yoke to where the pattern pieces straightened out. You trim it away. It's hard to explain, but it'll make sense if you use the clamshell template. :)
@@ConfidentStitch Thank! the templates are on the way!!! i should have them next week. thanks for the fast shipping!

Hi Betty-call the shop (406)540-4068, and my staff will help you. They can even check you out over the phone!
Could I make it with out snaps or buttons just leave it open.
I had the pattern and you make it easy, beautiful quilt design.
Yes, absolutely! The quilting holds the shape very well so it stays partly closed on its own!
Thank you
Arching again your tutorial,. I have another ?, could I make the quilt big enough for the jacket, cut the pattern without quilting, I don’t have a long arm, and the batting and back and join it to each and then quilt?
Watching . Sorry typo
Did you used layer cakes or you just fabric by the yard
When you serged your pieces to keep them tidy, did you remove the blade or did you let it cut the fabric?
I let it cut a tiny bit of fabric, but removing the blade would work, too!
Can the tamarack pattern be made reversible? How would you finish the inside seams?
You could bias-bind the seams! :)
Loved the video😊
Thank you!
I'd love a video on the welt pocket!
Ok! I will don’t it. 😀
Wonderful tutorial. Thank You. Your coat is beautiful.
Glad it was helpful!
Trying to find your video on continuous bias binding

Where do you find the clam shell pattern interfacing that you use?
At the confident stitch!
Hi, I live in the UK, can I buy the QuiltSmart Clamshell Coat Pack Printed Interfacing here?
I asked that same question, the answer was no! Such a pity.
Kate, this coat is just gorgeous!
Thank you!
