    Today I’m making a quilt coat out of a quilt that I thrifted! I drafted my own pattern for this, but am thinking of releasing it as a sewing pattern, so if you’re interested, let me know in the comments!
    I love how it turned out, and am so glad I made it reversible, as I kind of love the "inside" of the coat even more than the outside!

    I’m so glad that you shared your experience with us, including the things that didn’t go as planned! So freeing to realize that everyone else is not perfect either! But it’s all good! The jacket and your teaching was fabulous!

    To reduce the bulk before binding, either serge or zigzag all around the outer edges; then hit it with a good press.

    You should trim out the quilt batting to thin where the bias tape goes.😊

    • @CraftyandChic
      @CraftyandChic День назад

      Also, did you release this as a pattern?

    • @sewbakemake
      @sewbakemake  День назад +1

      The batting was really sewn in as the quilting stitches were very close together, so that wasn’t really possible without a lot of seam ripping! I haven’t released it yet, working on it now!

    I’m hooked on technology… now you make me want Adobe Illustrator! I have a projector and use it for pdf patterns but I’d love to draft my own! How did you learn?

    This is Sabrena: my husband’s name pops up I have to change that!!!!! So I am teaching myself to sew. I think I saw you taught yourself? Do you have recommendations for me? How long have you been sewing before you made this jacket? It’s adorable. I want to make my daughter one.

      I am self-taught 😊 If you're just starting, you should check out my Learn to Sew series if you haven't already! I started about 6 years ago. I think you could definitely make this as a beginner if you used a pattern!

    I think I could not cut up someones work....................a quilt someone made.
    Do you want your quilts cut up??

    • @sewbakemake
      @sewbakemake  2 месяца назад +7

      This was not a handmade quilt, it was from Home Trends originally and I found it at value village. However, I have no problem upcycling a handmade quilt if it’s one I find at a thrift store. Over 80% of items in thrift stores end up in landfill, and in my opinion, it’s a much better fate for a handmade quilt to become a jacket that will get worn over rotting in a landfill. If someone didn’t want it to be cut up, I’m assuming it wouldn’t have ended up there in the first place.
