Hi Kelly, just wanted to thankyou for your videos. In combination with changes to my diet, your suggestions have helped me better control my lymphedema when applied. I have had lymphedema before doctors understood what surgery can complicate. I was only 14 in 1971 when a lipoma surgery on my back near my left lung went horribly wrong... and was covered over. I woke up in pain and nurses constantly removing/replacing drains in my back. Terrible scarring. That was 50 years ago. I have always had problems with swelling, and people made fun of my "weight". I didn't even know what was wrong until it was identified in 2010. I became disabled at 50 because I could no longer stand the pain of standing. I almost died in 2017 due to heart failure and blood clots in my upper chest. To remedy the swelling, I was given diuretics for years and which I wound up with kidney stones. I am limited to 64 ounces of fluid each day, and I am an advocate of lemon/ginger/turmeric water. It has been a difficult journey, but in May I received the blessing of a four piece compression pump, covering me from my ribcage to my feet - 2 pieces for each leg on alternate days. I am coughing up thick lymph, and the swelling is going down! I use it daily, even though time consuming. If it keeps working, I may regain some control of my life! I also do manual lymphatic massage almost every morning, as you have illustrated. Thank you ever so much for all your suggestions, Kelly. There are people who are listening.

You missed the best compression garment for non-velcro. Solidea compression garments are made of a proprietary weave that actually wicks fluid up and out of the affected area. My lymphedema specialist was skeptical but I have had nothing short of miraculous reduction in my lymphedema, she's now recommending to other patients and had told me they have also had marked improvement. Please check it out. More people need to know this works! After a year in Solidea wraps, NO ONE CAN TELL I HAVE IT ANYMORE. I also use your drainage massage videos on a regular basis. I used to have to do the massage every other day. Now only every now and then if I feel a little more swollen. Because of these factors, I've been able to begin a mild exercise program and am losing weight. Please tell other lymphedema sufferers about the solidea compression garments!

I have vein deficiencies. Lipoedema and Lymphedema. My Dr has prescribe me furosemide, but I can only take it for two days every month. On day one there is a lot of fluid loss but not so much on day 2. This is taken when my swelling is very bad. I found that deep water running in a pool is great for helping my conditions. I was told it was equilivent to a manual drainage. I weigh myself before the pool and then as soon as I get out of the pool My bladder is so full. I will weigh myself and find I have lost around 2kg of weight. The other thing I find interesting is how my body shrinks in the colder climates.

Kelly, thank you so much for your educational videos. I am currently under the care of many dr.s....what's disturbing is....the dr.s dont agree. So we have to be our own advocate. Your videos that i just found today have already helped me. I have venous insufficiency and venous stasis and swelling in my left foot and ankle along with pain. The jury is still out as to the cause of the swelling. The vascular surgeon says: lymphodema, the primary care physician says: water weight, for which i am taking 2 different water pills and two potassium pills because the lasix strips potassium from your body. What should i do to find out exactly what IS going on

Great video! My legs swell up so it’s interesting to know there are different types of edema (not just the Lymphedema type). I’ll need to check out your compression sock video too!

The doc gave my mom water pills for her legs, they are still different sizes. I think the water pills were also to help her high blood pressure. So we aren’t going to stop them until we confirm their purpose with her doc. While watching this video , the information seemed like a lot to understand but I think it was just because my way of thinking about swelling was changing. Thank you for your videos.

I know that drinking too much fluid is a myth regarding lymphedema, but I get discouraged and feel like I should curtail my intake. (I don't, but can't help but think it's my fault in this way.)
The stockings that I was measured and fitted for at an actual lymphedema clinic are THE MOST painful of the ones I own. (JUZO Dynamic; 20-30 mmHg; size 1 short X-small). They are about an inch too long, so they fold over off my knee and after a few hours, they form a painful red dent around the top of my lower leg - that tourniquet you mentioned? They fit well along my lower leg and help edema there, but seem way too loose around my ankles and do not help the swelling there at all. In addition to the pain, my legs turn out to have quite a weird shape when I wear them. And what REALLY annoys me is that they are, by far, the most expensive stockings I have! They are like "The Cruel Shoes", but in stocking form. >_

I have had the same experience you have had. I went to a lymphedema clinic for 20 days to have my legs wrapped and then back the next day to have them unwrapped and re-wrapped. Then after alal this I received the stockings. They are too gight and hurt my legs There was a day time stocking that I found way too tight and a night-time one made of a more cotton like material that did not hurt. I wear the night time stocking during the day when I feel a great need to and never wear the too-tight black stockings. I am also trying to drink a lot of water to stay hydrated and this is helping. It does not cause my legs to swell. I also walk a lot and work out at the gym (free weights. stationary bike riding, tread mill. I am so glad I fou8nd this therapist. She is saying all the things I did researched on the internet were right on!

Thank you for covering the many myths. I am a cancer survivor for 3 years but also I have edema due to venous insufficiency. It has been treated with vein closing procedure and diuretics after compression did not improve and I began to experience skin breakdown well after the time the cancer was active. This leg conditioned is very improved in the legs but not necessarily in the feet that are further away from the heart AND not corrected surgically since the saphenous vein correction point was just above the ankle and all the way to the groin. I still have some pedal edema more distal to the vein correction and it has been difficult to control. I know diuretics do not help true lymph edema but will a higher dose of diuretic improve the non-lymph edema that still remains in my feet or would you suggest compression etc? Great job on all your videos!

Thank you for this myth busting about SALT (my internal oncologist told me to cut down on salt, while radiation oncologist said it has no bearing...go figure) - although I can see sugar being an issue. Working on getting my weight/fat down. The water, I am on top of it these days, drinking what I should along with eating water-rich foods 😉

Can you develop lymphedema when you have 12 lymph nodes removed from groin area? I had them removed due to melanoma cancer in the lymph nodes which I have swelling in my ankle up to groin area. Thank you for all your information!
