Since buying a 7mm-08 a few years ago, it’s been my go to rifle. Nearly identical ballistics to the 308 and much less recoil. At the end of the day, viewers see the round they own as the one that hit the clay the hardest...confirmation bias! They both kill critters DRT!
With a recent purchase, I'm getting closer to Adam's experience... Got an AR 10 pistol! Not quite the same as your Endeavor but a very nice Aero Precision. Still love my Savage Bolt Action .308
If you use the same bullet weight for two different bore diameters the larger bore diameter will end up with a shorter bullet with less sectional density that will naturally give it a reduced ballistic coefficient. I absolutely believe the 7mm 08 should become the armed forces replacement for the 7.62 x 51 NATO cartridge for many very good reasons. 7x51 or 7mm 08 is here to stay. It's a KEEPER...
How do you get to that conclusion? Both shooting 150gr bullets our of the essentially the same case . In theory the 308 have a slight edge over the 7mm-08 in terms of speed when shooting the same bullet weight. So in my mind the 308 hits harder as it got slightly more speed and frontal area. I'm refering to the distance who tee who shot here, not longer distances. The 7mm will defo have advantage over a longer distance as has higher BC
Not sure if one of your viewers or yourself noticed the clay of both flew back towards you . But the clay face of the 7/08 actually stayed together . You can see the eyes and as it spins around the entire face is visible . Very Cool
I've always been a fan of magnum loads but recently bought my wife and daughter the 7mm08, I shot a deer with it this weekend and he didn't the same thing as he would have done with my magnum but suitable for the wife and kids to shoot. I was impressed.
Awesome vid again. That first clay block started sweating when you said you'd shoot the .308 first! Second block sighed with relief when he knew he wasn't going to be hit so hard!🤣🤣🤣
I own both. Same experience as everyone else. 7mm-08 has less felt recoil, better BC for extended down range shots, gets the job done. My 308 puts bigger holes in stuff probably due to the bigger frontal diameter of the bullet, has slightly more recoil, wider bullet selection, out to 500y in ELD-X actually carries a little more energy. Horses for courses, depends on what you want to use the caliber for.
Use both,. I love both. But the little 7mm08 is my favorite cartridge. I killed a buck in 1990 with a borrowed 7mm08 at 470 yards DRT The first time I ever shot the rifle, That did it for me andI had to have one. Well 2 or 3. But I still think the 308 is one of the best southern deer rounds ever made.
I used to be a big fan of the 308 and I still am but the 7mm08 and the 6mm Remington are both better choices. They both have a higher BC (ballistic coefficient) than the 308 Win. Meaning they retain more energy down range at the target , also they have a flatter trajectory. They are both a short action cartridge so they'll work in an AR platform which I really like.
I have both , my favorite is the 7mm08 , either will do the job and are extremely accurate. The 7mm08 in 120 grain weight has a lot less recoil for those sensitive shooters . Great clay splody bits footage loved it thx Wtw.
I own both, and love both, they both have their place, you have to love the faithful tride and true .308, one of the best all around cartridges in my opinion, can always count on knock down power and damage to what ever it hits. But then there's the 7mm-08. Which also gets the job done very well, and down long range will out preform the .308, and can usually depend on better BC on a 7MM cartridge, and flatter trajectory, for an all around hard hitting cartridge I love the .308, but for me, I love the 7mm-08 for more long range precision shooting. Just my personal thoughts and experience with the 2
@@anthonyharper8161 in my opinion the 7mm-08 has a lighter felt recoil than the .308, the 7mm-08 is a very manageable recoil to shoot, is the main reason I bought a 7mm-08 for the wife to hunt with, is a little easier on her to shoot and handle.

I always hunted with a 280 encore rifle and a h&r but I switched to a 15” pistol barrel in 7/08 and never looked back. I’ve been deer hunting with the 7/08 exclusively for close to 20 years. I’ve had people ask me what I was shooting at 200 meters at the range I would let them watch through my spotting scope while I shot 4” water balloons with my Thomson pistol lol. I’ve found it’s the perfect combination for me in 7/08 and 15” barrel.

Fun video as always. Since you shoot so much clay have you ever thought of reforming it. I would almost bet you could build a form (5 sides of a cube) and toss the clay in it. Put the 6th side on it and use a press or bottle jack to squeeze it into the form. Might work might not. Might take the big chunks of a couple blocks to reform one. Might have a problem drying out if you didn’t reform it and then re wrap it pretty quickly. Or at least re wrap until you have time to get to it.
I don't know what one is truly better , Back in the day 308 was a good go to round , but became a big fan of the 30.06 , great video , would kind of like to see the same thing but at 300 yards , thank you for all your cool videos man
America loves the 30 caliber, but we were totally impressed by the Mauser 7X57 in Cuba in the Spanish American War. The 7MM08 shoots at slightly higher velocities that the 7X57, and at higher pressures. They are basically twins
@@warrenlathrop6296 There is the 280 Remington/ 7MM Remington Express. Basically a 7MM/06, not as hard recoiling as the 7 REM MAG. Then again it is hard to find, and a hand load deal. The 280 can be loaded to 100 FPS short of the 7 Rem Mag in a modern action; you would beat up a Mauser 98 Action at those pressures. I love my 7X57 and 6.5 swede's.
@@warrenlathrop6296 I reload. I have for 45 years. The investment in money and time is something that some people can't or won't care to afford. I find it de-stressing and relaxing.
I have a Browning 308 that I love to shoot because it just fits me really well. I didn't see a lot of difference between the two, but they both destroyed the clay blocks. I just want to know if the clay is solid or hollow. Most every caliber you have used has exploded the clay like a hollow target.
One thing I've learned recently about the factory ammo between .308 and 7mm-08 is that, on the average, .308 seems to be loaded higher in the safe ranges than 7mm, often by a solid 5-10% roughly. Load Data indicates that the 7mm should be able to offer higher BCs and SDs at the same weight and velocity, but seemingly most factory loads don't load them that way for whatever reason
Looked about the same on the slow-mo. Both are very capable cartridges. I've been shooting and hunting with a .308 for years. One day I'll add a 7mm08 to the stable.
I was doubting the 7-08 but currently took a doe and 4 point on the same hunt. The doe was a little over 200 yards and it hit exactly where i was aiming. Ive never shot the rifle or even at a deer so i had no idea...
Those clay blocks exploded great! I agree 7mm08 seemed to hit harder! Idea 💡 make a wooden channel u shape to put the clay block in so wood supports the bottom and two sides leaving the front, back and top of clay block open just to see the difference of how that clay explodes I am thinking more force out front and back and definitely up the top. Yup just three pieces of 2x6 or 2x8 should work depending on clay block dimensions 👍🏻😉
Love my Remington model 700 7mm-08 but i also love my Remington model 760 gamemaster pump in 30-06 its actually my dads but its pretty much mine and do chronograph next please!
I only own one bolt action, Ruger American Predator .308. If I were to buy a second bolt action right now I would probably get a 6.5 Creedmore. I was at my local gun shops a couple days ago and saw tons of 6.5 Creedmore. .308 was slim pickings, luckily I already have a pretty good supply of .308. I love the clay videos. You could probably take those clay sculptures to an art gallery and sell them for a couple hundred thousand lol.
I have a 7mm08 and it does best with a 140 Gr. bullet. Yep, I have tried a 150 Gr. & 130 Gr. as well. Working on an all around powder as well for the ..223, 243, 6.5, & the 7mm08.
I got a 26 inch 308 barrel for my Encore its heavy but nice, I put a scope on and my first group was palm size at 100 yards....and a plus is you can shoot 7.62 NATO as well
Hey Hootie just wanted to let you know I live in Elk County which is central Pennsylvania and the 708 is just as popular as the 308 and a 30 ought 6 ammunition for the 708 is everywhere
I love both the 7mm-08 and .308. I own both in a Savage bolt gun the 7-08 in a model 10, and the 308 in an axis. Also have both in an AR10, and yes you can get a 7-08 AR10. As far as I know Wilson combat is the only ones that make a barrel chambered in 7-08, and the rest uses all 308 parts. I prefer the 7-08 over the 308, because the 7-08 is a flatter shooting round. It's also still supersonic past 1000 yards, where the 308 has already started falling off. The only draw back for me, as several folks already mentioned, is the lack of ammo for the 7-08. I just recently purchased 5 boxes for the first time in 2 years. I know the COVID shutdowns and everything else put 7-08 on the back burner for many ammo manufacturers because of the demand for NATO calibers, but even pre-covid 7-08 was always scarce.
Must try the paper plates now ! I Have owned several 7.08s and I still think its an incredible allrounder. In France 308 was not allowed for decades, so the smaller 7mm was easier to get. Just have to aim, sling that bullet and let the Magic happen ! Cheers mate
EFP (Explosively Formed Penetrator) formed in clay flying off to the top right at 01:59, sorta! Not sure it would do too well against armour, or even anything but it's cool seeing that form and fly away.

The ballistics on the 7mm-08 are awesome. I bought a M700 LVSF, but I was never happy with its accuracy. I believe I could only find two different loads to shoot through it. Really poor ammo choices. I just went back to the 308.
With the right bullet, either the .308 or the 7mm08 will easily harvest deer or elk to 350 yards and the deer and elk won't have any clue which one they were shot with. Both calibers are excellent hunting cartridges with mutual benefits and versatility.
The .284 caliber bullet has a sectional density greater than that of the .308. From everything I have learned that gives it a greater penetration along with a higher bc if you concern yourself with that. Both calibers will do the job nicely.
I shot 2 of those lead tips 308 into a gel block and they disintegrated. some shards went through all the way. I don't hunt but idk if that's exactly desirable. they would certainly ruin a human, that's for sure. I believe the rounds I used were 180gr. I've never shot the 7mm. they both are acceptable to me, idk if the difference is enough to really make a difference in terms of power.
I own both calibers. I'd probably stick with the 308 at shorter distance, but the 7mm-08 has a better BC with bullet weight being equal and can stretch out further

I don't know what one is truly better , Back in the day 308 was a good go to round , but became a big fan of the 30.06 , great video , would kind of like to see the same thing but at 300 yards , thank you for all your cool videos man
I love em all! Appreciate you watching bigtime Red wing
The 308win had more structural explosive damage; more clay flying in the air, more shocking power.
Could it be shot placement? It looked like the .308 hit a little higher than the 7mm-08, maybe an ich really does matter?
Possibly. Pretty sure I hit em pretty close to the middle
Are 308’s ok for beginners? And which has less recoil?
Being a. 308 guy I hate to admit it but the 7mm-08 slapped it the hardest!
I agree
I have a Browning 308 that I love to shoot because it just fits me really well. I didn't see a lot of difference between the two, but they both destroyed the clay blocks. I just want to know if the clay is solid or hollow. Most every caliber you have used has exploded the clay like a hollow target.
Clay is solid
One thing I've learned recently about the factory ammo between .308 and 7mm-08 is that, on the average, .308 seems to be loaded higher in the safe ranges than 7mm, often by a solid 5-10% roughly. Load Data indicates that the 7mm should be able to offer higher BCs and SDs at the same weight and velocity, but seemingly most factory loads don't load them that way for whatever reason
Splody bits?
🤣🤣😂🤣😂That's a new cereal 😅
🤣🤣🤣
Looked kinda even to me. Got to do paper plate fmj test tie breaker.
Good idea
Love that 7 mm O8 just something about it so awesome
Looked about the same on the slow-mo. Both are very capable cartridges. I've been shooting and hunting with a .308 for years. One day I'll add a 7mm08 to the stable.
Thanks for watching Richard
I was doubting the 7-08 but currently took a doe and 4 point on the same hunt. The doe was a little over 200 yards and it hit exactly where i was aiming. Ive never shot the rifle or even at a deer so i had no idea...
Must be from louisiana
@@reddawng43x91 lol
you SHOULD at least fire the rifle you gonna use to hunt with you owe the animal that much n that’s not much to make sure of an ethical kill shot

Oh by the way thank you for doing this i was one of probably many that requested the 2 calibers
I am a .308 fan but i may have to give the edge to the 7mm for this one. But just barely. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching dragonrider!
Yup I hear you. Appreciate you watching bigtime Stormy!
I have a 7mm08 and it does best with a 140 Gr. bullet. Yep, I have tried a 150 Gr. & 130 Gr. as well. Working on an all around powder as well for the ..223, 243, 6.5, & the 7mm08.
I got a 26 inch 308 barrel for my Encore its heavy but nice, I put a scope on and my first group was palm size at 100 yards....and a plus is you can shoot 7.62 NATO as well
Nice
Hey Hootie just wanted to let you know I live in Elk County which is central Pennsylvania and the 708 is just as popular as the 308 and a 30 ought 6 ammunition for the 708 is everywhere
Awesome. I dont know a single person with a 7mm08
Cheers mate
Good idea
EFP (Explosively Formed Penetrator) formed in clay flying off to the top right at 01:59, sorta! Not sure it would do too well against armour, or even anything but it's cool seeing that form and fly away.
BOOM
I love these clay block videos
Thanks for watching Mark!

Thanks Joel 🙏🙏🙏
The second chunk of clay wasn’t really stuck to that cinder block like the first, hadn’t sat there as long.
Funny you made that observation. I noticed the barrel leaned backwards on the 308 shot.
@Keith Peterson I agree with you when you say the 270 is a sweetheart! Paul from heavy metal, put the 270 smackdown on a soda can the other day
Just picked up a 7mm-08 barrel for my Encore. Glad to see it performed well. I also have it in a pistol barrel.
Awesome!
2 nice ammo, but for the best hunting is30-06 the best ammo, you take everything down whit 30-06, . Thanks for the video, I love yours videos.
Thanks for watching stefan
Awesome video! Both powerful rounds
The ballistics on the 7mm-08 are awesome. I bought a M700 LVSF, but I was never happy with its accuracy. I believe I could only find two different loads to shoot through it. Really poor ammo choices. I just went back to the 308.
7mm-08 destroyed everything❤️❤️😍
BOOM💥💥💥
Ive noticed you use a lot of Winchester Super X Powerpoint ammunition in your videos, do you also hunt with them?
I do hunt with it. I normally buy it bcuz itbis cheap
The 7MM-08 is one of my favorites!!!! You still gotta do something with a 25-06 !!!! Hahaha
2506 vids this week
@@WHOTEEWHO Thanks I appreciate it!!!! Have a good night
@@WHOTEEWHO try a 25.45 Sharp's!
Let’s do a 6.5 cred vs 7mm-08 vid
Coming soon
Now you need a .260 Remington which is also part of the .308 family of cartridges
Yup
I shot 2 of those lead tips 308 into a gel block and they disintegrated. some shards went through all the way. I don't hunt but idk if that's exactly desirable. they would certainly ruin a human, that's for sure. I believe the rounds I used were 180gr. I've never shot the 7mm. they both are acceptable to me, idk if the difference is enough to really make a difference in terms of power.
both great guns thumbs up shared but yup 7mm-08 wins in my opinion would like to see the 3006 verses the 7mm rem mag
He drew!!!
Hey Who Tee have a closer look at your slow mo, the 308 definitely hit harder👍👍
👍👍
That 7mm looked like it had more energy. Wow!!! Great stuff
Thanks for watching Silver Back!
You guys should try shooting rubber racket balls in a can. I always wondered if they were bulletproof. Lol 🤔
Good idea
Nice looking guns I'm a 308 man but the 7mm-08 won thanks for posting keep shooting brother
270 vs 25-06 vs 243 clay blocks. Great job!!
Good idea
I own both calibers. I'd probably stick with the 308 at shorter distance, but the 7mm-08 has a better BC with bullet weight being equal and can stretch out further
camera dont lie 308 in slow motion looked way more devastating
💪💪
Also could do 6.8 western against the 30-06 with same grain bullet 😁👍👍👍
