SWOT observation of swell, Antarctica to Australia, June 9th 2023

This video shows swell resolved in SWOT SSH (in blue) and radar backscatter (grey shades) as it flies along track 019 from Antarctica to Australia, on June 9, 2023. Note the dark patches in radar backscatter (grey shades) are associated to rain cells. Swells are generally longer further away from the storm because long waves travel faster. At the end of the video, swells get much shorter after y=2700 km as we arrive is shallower water near the Australian coast.
