I don't think this is a problem. I think you are actually choosing the wrong tool. Cloud need connection, obviously a good connection for this kinda of work. Same thing as the need to have a good computer or a good screen for cg. If you want to work locally, the best solution might be download the .drp, duplicate the working timeline, give it a proper name and when you finished export the .drt to the original cloud. It all comes to a clean project management and editing workflow.
Thank you for confirming what I had been experienceing. I'm on network, but occasionally it can have slow downs... and that seems to slow down resolve or even crash. I hope this is something they fix to get it to work better to rely more on local project syncing that uploads to the cloud when you have a solid connnection.
So is there an option where you download the footage and sync it to your system and work on it or do you literally have to be online to use the project? Because that does seem like a bit of a glaring and obvious flaw. I get the intention is for big productions and teams to be working on this, but remote work isn't perfect and wifi/connections do drop. Should really have a cache design where you can go offline temporarily and then update the project later.
I am scratching my head over this myself. Don't these folks know what the "cloud" is? You turn off the network, its goes away. Turn the network back on and it magically comes back! 🤣
@@adeeperbluegreen no one is really comparing BM cloud to other cloud services though. There's none to compare to, really. The thing that isn't super obvious from a video editing perspective is that since all footage is stored locally and the project file is relatively small, in theory the effect on performance should be miniscule...but that's not the reality. It's a pretty significant night and day difference editing locally to editing via the cloud, even with good connection. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that most "cloud" software are super light versions of the desktop versions like Lightroom CC to Lightroom Classic...not directly comparable, but works for the analogy. Compare that with BM Cloud you lose no functionality and in fact, gain a lot of extra functionality that's hard to give up. For reference, when cloud came out, I subscribed, copied my database over, and never looked back. My quality of life working a hybrid schedule never had to be bogged down by the tedious transferring of Resolve Archives at the end of the day. The initial difference wasn't noticeable enough to give me pause. I think the mental trickery that's occurring is that the UI is the exact same and it doesn't have that lite-version, minimal feel that other cloud software does, so you expect it to be every bit as powerful. Especially when no one talks about it and the community has only positive things to say, it's a little confounding why my recently once powerful PC suddenly lost its umph. Especially when you throw in the fact that they've updated in a lot of intensive neural add-ons that are used often, one might assume their PC is just getting put through its paces...that is until for some arbitrary reason a project needs to get moved back into the local database. That's the only moment you realize how much performance you've lost.
So I synced a project from my client's pc and after editing on my pc entirely I wanted to render it out for my client but it says the files are offline. It only renders when I open the project in client's pc. Need help.
So this device is not a standard storage server and requires proprietary cloud software packages? No deal, I'll stick with my linux/BSD based NFS servers and local VPN.
Literally TERRIBLE background music bro. I would LOVE to watch this but the music is SO SO Irritating i can barely focus on what you are saying. (as a suggestion from a pro video editor, drop the treble on the track)
Really dude? It is a network based cloud service. Of course a poor network service is going to affect it. Disconnecting the network on an open project creates the expected result.
Of course, but I don’t think it’s asinine to wonder if it worked in a way where it kept a local version of the project (since project files are so small) on the computer itself while just syncing changes and saves to the cloud. If this were the case poor network wouldn’t affect actual editing performance would just affect its ability to save and sync to other computers.
Plenty of cloud services especially pro ones sync or make files available offline for projects in use. If you think me mentioning to others that they should be cautious of using Blackmagic cloud if they travel frequently invalidates this channel….that literally makes zero sense.

Have found this as well. Dunna and I use this feature and I have had varied results depending on which network I am working on
You have the same Probleme with any cloud based Storage. Thats not Special to BM Cloud.

But once the footage is synced everything is local. The footage is on your harddrive
I had the same issue too, it;s a bummer that you cant keep working on the project if you are offline, I stopped using it for this exact reason

So the problem with the Cloud Pod, the "fatal problem" is your internet connection?! Well that just killed any authority this channel would have had.
