You know writing‘s really good when you agree on Huey and Annie’s sides. Though you tend to lean more towards Huey. Sure Annie has had moments where she’s felt helpless, but has never truly felt powerless. She doesn’t fully try to understand Huey’s dilemma. He witnesses ex-girlfriend gets splattered all over the road, and could do nothing about it. Try going the highroad in it did nothing. I do think she cares for Hueywie, but (unintentionally) sees him as a emotional support animal. Something pure to hold on to, and not realizing that he’s flawed. Sometimes there’s not a right way or a wrong way. There’s just a way
She is trying to sweep Hughie's insecurities and helplessness as just "male ego" which is quite narrowminded of her. As a supe, she has no idea how regular humans feel in face of power they can't overcome.
@@scientia.veritas That's kinda funny because Homelander and the Deep were powers she couldn't overcome, so I'm not sure you're right there. Either way, he was fine with this imbalance in power, and now he has a taste of it he should be the protector?
@@scientia.veritas it is about his ego. The writers make it pretty clear that huey saying he wants to save starlight is just an excuse to exert his power over other people, specifically supes. It's why he punches a-train after he gave a real apology and was enjoying his temp v high while kimiko was dying right next to him.
I don't disagree with Hughie's actions, but the motive behind them. He is doing it from a place of insecurity rather than it just being the logical conclusion on how to defeat Homelander and end up with a lesser evil (Soldier Boy).
@@benimarusasaka9127 Well it's only natural that a young adult with a history of being bullied loses the love of his life via complete bodily obliteration - by one of his idols no less, has no real parental guidance and is caught in a war against all supes; would be extremely susceptible to taking drastic measures to ensure he and his loved ones survive.
Listen all of you... if you guys don't fucking understand what needs to be done to get the shit done. YOu really should stick to shows like Dragon Ball Z where the villains usually turns into a friend, or simple good vs bad.
Let me just say this was by far the best episode of the series, like this had my heart pounding like A-Trains, Homelander vs Soldier Boy, Butcher, & Hughie is the best TV fight scene of 2022 even above the Kenobi and Vader showdown, seeing Homelander fight and actually push his limits is something we’ve been waiting for since season 1👏🏼💯
I don't know about that "best fight scene". It had high stakes but technically it wasn't that good with that shaky cam, basic camera angles and generic choreography. But like I said, the stakes were high and that's what made the scene so intense and got everybody on the edge of their seat.
27:45 Funny enough about that situation, if Starlight had stayed herself and let MM go then she could've fought against homelander and they probably would've had enough strength to actually hold him down.
@@myrongaines6022 That might stun him for a split second and just annoy him but sure. Whenever Homelander gets close to killing her ig Hughie can save her.
One thing I noticed about main characters superpowers in "The Boys" is that they have something opposite in rapport of their characters, personalities and super powers: - Hughie always wanted to help and was done hiding behind the shadow of Starlight, but he got the powers of teleportation which is a power of "running away" (kind of) - Starlight always questioned the fact of being famous and never wanted to be on the spotlight but literally got the powers of being "Shiny" - Butcher always hated Supes and his archenemy Homelander for what he did to his wife to a point he chooses to be like his enemies to be able to get rid of them he got the powers of his "opposite self" or the one he hate the most: Homelander - A-train runs away from his mess but they always come back to him - Homelander wants to be love by everyone but do everything in his power for people to hate him "If you have something else to say or to add just go ahead"!!!!
This is actually good. I saw similar comment to this. Its about the temp V effect to the boys. Hughie = similar to A-train. Can cover long distances in a short time Butcher = very much the same as homelander MM = ??? (Similar to soldier boy) Their powers are based on strong feelings. And that is hate. What they hate became what they are. (Except for MM cause he didnt inject V yet)
18:55 THANK YOU!!! I think Roshi is the only person I've seen who said that Starlight is not being empathetic at all. I mean sure, yes he can be secure as her partner and all, but that shit gets to you eventually.
Exactly... and even if her strength didn't bother him, constantly being a liability to to the person you love would be mentally taxing. For me, it wouldn't been about her being stronger than me.... it would be that I don't want to keep putting her in danger, that I want to be able to take care of my self for once, and help protect her if needed. Of course Hughie didn't articulate it well in the moment, because of the stress of the situation.
Not yet, can't be too sure, a little too good to be true, he could be self-righteous delusional and thinks he's good. His teammates must've hated him for a good reason. I don't know anything about his comic counterpart so we'll see I guess.
Honestly, when we see Soldier Boy at the end of the season, it looks like he is weaker here due to being drained from his previous laser. At full strength, I think he should be equal to Homelander, only without flight and laser vision.
Yeah when Soldier Boy uses his nuclear blast it severely weakens him, you see how long it takes him to charge up so that's his drawback. If Soldier Boy didn't have to use up energy like that Soldier Boy could be Homelander
I love that this is the closest we've seen Noir get to freaking out. He's still all business and will get whatever he needs to get done done, but I can't remember the last time we've seen him move like that outside of an Almond Joy getting shoved in his face.
Honestly this episode was just a 10/10 I had to rewatch it like multiple times when it came out. It had them Injustice/ Mortal Kombat levels of gore and superhero fighting, A-Train doing kabal's fatality on blue hawk and then his somber revenge death, Hughie and Butcher going further into the dark, MM and Annie taking the high road, Frenchie and Kimiko being somewhere in the middle trying to move forward from their pasts. It was all just amazing
I was waiting for this one. Soldier Boy fighting homelander gave me Alucard vs Dracula vibes. This was probably the best episode so far, and it felt good to finally watch someone stand up to homelander. I feel bad for MM though.
Something I noticed is that all the white people that watch the fight usually either say nothing or say its not fair that homelander had to fight a 3v1, while black people (especially dudes) laugh their asses off and crack jokes about jumping people. It's hilarious. No, they should not fight fair when homelander is basically a planetary bully. Next time make it a 5 v 1 and stomp his ass out like stormfront.
It's killing me how Lupa was literally crying at MM's backstory and the next thing that popped up on the screen was a giant dick. This show is a rollercoaster
Notice the way homelander escaped when he was getting jumped by butcher, hughie, and solider boy was the same way stormfront flew off into the sky to escape getting curb stomped by Maeve, Kimiko, and starlight, like even the way homelander and stormfront both like roared before pushing the team off before flying away, the parallels tho.
19:00 let’s be real, Annie has all the reason in the world to be fed up with Hughie’s shit. She’s had a LOT more patience with him than someone else in her position might, and despite *constantly* telling him that what she needs is for him to be their for her emotionally rather than saving her physically, all Hughie seems to want to do is make his sense of helplessness her problem. Hughie’s not wrong to try and keep her safe but he’s doing it in the shittiest way possible, and it’s no wonder she’s over it.
I don't know, I think Annie fucked up a lot lately. I mean, she just condemned Supersonic to an horrible death at the hands of Homelander, she antagonized Victoria Newman, which it'll bite her in the ass later, and dropped out of the seven just when Homelander was having a break down.
I know you guys have already been using it for a bit, but whoever came up with that main high pitched melody for the new intro is seriously goated. That shit stays in my head for hours sometimes lol
The way Homelander shouted and flew away when pinned was the craziest thing ngl, he found something in himself and thats fucking scary to see him get pushed to that level
This is the best episode yet. I feel like they're going to let us forget about Black Noir and then bring him back later after we forgot, for some kind of plot twist. I love how Annie's default "move" is to double down on keeping it 100%.
Could you imagine how rent-free this day lives in Homelander's head? First you have Soldier Boy appearing, "hero of heroes". You charge full speed into him with the aim of finishing him off as quickly as possible, holding him so that you could laser him, only for man to throw a MEAN uppercut on your chin and ACTUALLY reel you back. He then responds with two more hits, and they actually connect and push YOU back, then when you throw a haymaker, he DODGES it entirely. This is short lived as you realize your raw strength is slightly greater than his. Then you have William Butcher, the man you just lasered, stand there unfazed, grabbing your attention....just for him to laser you out of nowhere. A man who stood up to you but you had no true qualms about as he couldn't even scratch you...lasered you. Then you start exchanging blows with this man and he is ENTRALLED at the fact that he's actually able to fight back. While not as strong, all of HIS attacks are connecting. Then you have a clash of lasers and its completely stalemated. Suddenly you are yanked by your cape and flung back into a wall. Oh you completely forgot about Soldier Boy didn't you? Now you have two superhuman freaks, with the physical durability to withstand and hurt you, come after you at the same time. Now's not the time to overpower them at your own leisure. Your attacks on them need to connect and their synergy needs to be disrupted. "Knock Soldier Boy away and deal with Butcher first", is what you're thinking. That seems to work in the moment. Out of nowhere you feel yourself get shoved completely to the side by some unknown force...turns out to be Hughie Campbell, stark naked. You barely have time to gather your thoughts and wonder why the hell he's here....and naked, and then proceed to laser him. To which he responds by instantly teleporting out of the way. This is becoming infuriating and the entire situation is pissing you off as this is the longest time you have ever tried to kill someone, and STILL turn out unsuccessful. Once again you have lost your sense of surrounding and once again...out of NOWHERE, you find yourself being completely holstered up like a child and slammed to the ground face first. On your right side, your arm is extended and pinned down...by Butcher. On your rear end or your back, you have the full weight of the 2nd strongest hero in the world, Soldier Boy, on top of you, pinning your body down completely...save for your left arm which is still giving you some leverage. To make matters WORSE, that same left arm is suddenly yanked and held down completely flat by something that you can't actually see, to which you can only guess, is Hughie. You, the strongest being on this planet, is SPRAWLWED OUT and HELD DOWN by three grown men. It makes no difference that they're superpowered beings. It does not get any more humiliating than that. Homelander is a being to which all of his sensed are dialed up to superhuman levels....so you can imagine how incredibly uncomfortable he felt when there's a tingling followed by a surge of warmth on your rear, and the sound of something charging up. He knows from the news that it's one of Soldier Boys explosions, but based on how desperate these guys want him to experience that blast at point blank range MEANS that there's no ways in hell that is some ordinary blast. This is a theory but I'd like to imagine that while the blast was charging up, Homelander could feel in the slightest bit...that his power was waning and he was actually getting weaker. Regardless, "I need to get the f*$k out of here" was his first thought. 2nd thought was "GET THE F*$k OFF OF ME!!!". Final thought was...well it does not matter, because for the first time in your life, you had to summon EVERY ounce of your 'godlike' strength to shrug them of, and FLY AWAY. To which you were able to. You get home after the whole ordeal, and you find ACTUAL SWELLING on your face. It does not matter what followed after that, cause for the first time in your life, you DID not win a physical fight...and for the first time ever...you RAN FOR YOUR LIFE. Like I said...rent free.
That "what happened?" at 22:00 was the perfect opportunity for a 🎵YOUUUUUU🎵 but it didn't happen. Editor bro, we need a short released with that sound put in on this channel for the soulja boy fans 😂😂

I hate that the writers of this episode just boiled down Hughie's motivation as being emasculated. They could've done a better job by using his backstory with Robin as a reason for what he's doing. The writers literally used his backstory in the same episode then forgot about it just to use a real life commentary for the character's motivations. Instead of Hughie saying he's just emasculated, he should've told Starlight that what happened with Robin is still affecting his decisions today. He should've said "When Robin died, I wasn't prepared for it. It was so unexpected, there were no warnings at all. I wasn't able to do anything to prevent it from happening and all I could do was to just accept it and move on. I don't what to do that to you. I can't just sit here knowing you'll die in the hands of Homelander and knowing we had a way to stop him. I don't want to just move on and accept that you'll die, I can't do that again."
@@struggleskywalker1025 No they didn't. Hughie literally said to Annie "You always have to be the strong one, you always have to be strong than me." Then he proceeds to admit that maybe the reason why he's doing this is because he's emasculated. Hughie never said anything that is not related to being emasculated which is why Annie made comments regarding him being emasculated because he's being obvious about it.
@@d0decadice Maybe watch the episode again lol. Why do you think he enjoys his powers? He likes them because he can save his friends using them. Now he’s not just some bug people can flick away or squash without a second thought. It’s not simply him being emasculated. She could’ve tried to see where he was coming from but didn’t. He wasn’t mad about being weaker, as he said. He was mad he couldn’t protect her if she was in danger. Maybe instead of trying to demonize the dude maybe just listen to what he’s saying a bit? It’s why teleportation is better than getting superspeed for him. He can safely transport his friends between long distances without any bad side effects other than clothes not teleporting with them.
I think that was the implied subtext, particularly since the fight came right after he brought up Robin in his confrontation with A-Train. I like that they didn’t feel the need to over explain it in the moment although I’m sure the conversation will be revisited soon.

Annie: I thought the drugs had fucked you up, Hughie, but... this is you. Annie: This is ALL you. Here is the breakdown: There's a back and forth with Hughie and Annie about why Hughie doesn't need to be the "strong one". Annie talks about their first date and how it doesn't bother Hughie that she is strong. Then Hughie says "But it does"(which the writers clearly love to hammer in the idea that Hughie is just emasculated) Then Annie just says "This is ALL of you" which clearly means that the reason for his actions is just because he's emasculated towards Annie. There were no statements or dialog that references his past relationship with Robin in this conversation. The only time he talks about it is when he faces A-Train (which the writers did just to show us audience the parallels between Hughie's backstory and to what happened to A-Train recently) My whole argument for this episode is that the writers did not factor in Hughie's backstory to his reasoning on why he's doing what he's doing. The just boiled down his reasoning to just being "emasculated". They just wanted to make a social commentary about a subject using a certain character rather than actually making good character development.
I find it an Interesting metaphor; to consider Homelander represents America and there are forces both within and without, trying to take him down... what's worse, is we as the audience are cheering for it, when we have no idea what comes next. Its great writing.

18:55 in fairness, There’s a difference between “I’m punching above my weight class and I need to even the playing field” and being straight up insecure that your girlfriend is stronger than you. It comes off like Hughie wants to save Starlight for his own ego as opposed to her safety.
To some extent I think he feels that way but also at the same time Starlight is trying to take on all the weight of trying to take down Homelander and put herself I this massively dangerous position but doesn't want Huey to do dangerous things like take compound V. She also wants to keep doing things her way just as much as he wants to do them Butchers way. Ultimately she easily could've died in that house is Huey didn't teleport them out. She can't be the one taking all the risks and thinking nobody can ever help her in return.
Well such as he is Hughie is still a man and it is natural for a man to want to protect and provide, he could only fight his natural inclination for so long.
@@captainmarvelous7678 I see where Starlight is coming from because Hughie basically admitted that he’s getting drunk off the power, Starlight isn’t opposed to help but she doesn’t want Hughie to lose himself in the process.
@@HomoErected I agree. She has felt powerless before.
I'm glad someone finally saw that Annie wasn't being empathetic to Hughie
Their relationship feels so real because they both have real issues that are disregarded by the other.

She didn’t want those problems lmao
Probably not. She’s strong but wouldn’t help that much all things considered.
@@eclipse7963 She's nowhere near Homelander physically but she could definitely just hide and blast him with lights whenever she gets an opening.
@@myrongaines6022 That might stun him for a split second and just annoy him but sure. Whenever Homelander gets close to killing her ig Hughie can save her.
@@eclipse7963 Yeah she wouldn't have been super useful but considering how close they got, she might've been the deciding factor
One thing I noticed about main characters superpowers in "The Boys" is that they have something opposite in rapport of their characters, personalities and super powers:
- Hughie always wanted to help and was done hiding behind the shadow of Starlight, but he got the powers of teleportation which is a power of "running away" (kind of)
- Starlight always questioned the fact of being famous and never wanted to be on the spotlight but literally got the powers of being "Shiny"
- Butcher always hated Supes and his archenemy Homelander for what he did to his wife to a point he chooses to be like his enemies to be able to get rid of them he got the powers of his "opposite self" or the one he hate the most: Homelander
- A-train runs away from his mess but they always come back to him
- Homelander wants to be love by everyone but do everything in his power for people to hate him
"If you have something else to say or to add just go ahead"!!!!
This is actually good. I saw similar comment to this. Its about the temp V effect to the boys.
Hughie = similar to A-train. Can cover long distances in a short time
Butcher = very much the same as homelander
MM = ??? (Similar to soldier boy)
Their powers are based on strong feelings.
@@buttershush8895 plus he repeated lied to her.
Soilder boy actually doesn’t seem as bad as homelander, kinda liking his character
He's a normal asshole instead of a psychopathic asshole like homelander.
Not yet, can't be too sure, a little too good to be true, he could be self-righteous delusional and thinks he's good. His teammates must've hated him for a good reason. I don't know anything about his comic counterpart so we'll see I guess.
He's the same as homelander, except he knows how fucked up he really is and actually has morals.
Crazy just how strong Homelander is, it took 3 strong ass Supes to subdue him even for like 10 seconds
Yeah and they were around homelanders field of power somewhat
Hugie isn't strong lol
He can’t beat Kirby tho. That’d be an interesting fight tho
He's still all business and will get whatever he needs to get done done, but I can't remember the last time we've seen him move like that outside of an Almond Joy getting shoved in his face.
homelander: “you’re the only one i could count on.”
noir: “nah bitch peace.”
Can we just appreciate the dialogue delivery of homelander "I'm the Upgrade"
The "oh no" before that was like the girl in Get Out
Homelander: You're the only one I can count on 🙂
Black Noir: ... *Harry Houdinis out of there*
that intro gets me every time man, you guys are reacting to one of the best live-action superhero fights ever and ur intro is still somehow more fire
The Cosby thing really solidifies how out of touch SB is with this century
I was waiting for this one. Soldier Boy fighting homelander gave me Alucard vs Dracula vibes. This was probably the best episode so far, and it felt good to finally watch someone stand up to homelander. I feel bad for MM though.
Ahhhhh yes Alucard vs Dracula was great! Love Castlevania
This episode was wild😂 and I hope lupa enjoyed his time off!
Thank You! Felt human again reading this.
The fact that Butcher got the same powers as homelander just proves how messed up he also is
i was wondering how this one took so long to come out but then i realized its 100% the editing load required
Nah, Lupa was out of town (posted on Patreon). The editor is a beast, would've definitely gotten it out ASAP no matter the difficulty.
Man the guy who plays M.M was phenominal this episode, that whole bit in the car talking about his past was powerful
The Bill Cosby drink joke was foul. I nearly choked on my drink hearing that shit.🍹

Homelander nearly killed his own weakness (Soldierboy) 💀
There's two waits for me: One for the episode, and another to see you guys.
Keep it up!
It's killing me how Lupa was literally crying at MM's backstory and the next thing that popped up on the screen was a giant dick. This show is a rollercoaster
Notice the way homelander escaped when he was getting jumped by butcher, hughie, and solider boy was the same way stormfront flew off into the sky to escape getting curb stomped by Maeve, Kimiko, and starlight, like even the way homelander and stormfront both like roared before pushing the team off before flying away, the parallels tho.
this jus proves if this show had more fight scenes, it would be even more hyped

19:00 let’s be real, Annie has all the reason in the world to be fed up with Hughie’s shit. She’s had a LOT more patience with him than someone else in her position might, and despite *constantly* telling him that what she needs is for him to be their for her emotionally rather than saving her physically, all Hughie seems to want to do is make his sense of helplessness her problem. Hughie’s not wrong to try and keep her safe but he’s doing it in the shittiest way possible, and it’s no wonder she’s over it.
Yeah i get hughie’s point but holy shit he is so bad at handling this, bro is pissing me off every time he interacts with her like ffs
I don't know, I think Annie fucked up a lot lately. I mean, she just condemned Supersonic to an horrible death at the hands of Homelander, she antagonized Victoria Newman, which it'll bite her in the ass later, and dropped out of the seven just when Homelander was having a break down.
nah it's both of their faults, and I can see where they both are coming from, and at the same time they are both handling it very poorly.
Completely agree.
@@Cavpal basically they both fucked up in their own way and no one did it better.
I know you guys have already been using it for a bit, but whoever came up with that main high pitched melody for the new intro is seriously goated. That shit stays in my head for hours sometimes lol
Lmao, I cannot imagine the stress the editor had to go through with this episode
What the hell

I see all these good comments but no one is talking about how epic A-Train skull dragging was.
That's what they were trying to convey but in less words

To those people who clearly didn't watch the episode but still likes to argue, Here is the conversation (word for word) between Hughie and Annie:
Hughie: I saved you, Annie.
Hughie: Jesus Christ. All I want is to save you.
Annie: You keep saying that, but I don't need you to save me.
Hughie: Right, God forbid I help you, because I always have to be the weak one, the one you have to rescue.

Hughie: I know.
Hughie: But it does... Sometimes... A little.
Annie: I thought the drugs had fucked you up, Hughie, but... this is you.
Annie: This is ALL you.
Here is the breakdown:
There's a back and forth with Hughie and Annie about why Hughie doesn't need to be the "strong one".
The only time he talks about it is when he faces A-Train (which the writers did just to show us audience the parallels between Hughie's backstory and to what happened to A-Train recently)
My whole argument for this episode is that the writers did not factor in Hughie's backstory to his reasoning on why he's doing what he's doing. The just boiled down his reasoning to just being "emasculated". They just wanted to make a social commentary about a subject using a certain character rather than actually making good character development.

Soldier Boy's yellow light that signifies him charging that blast doesn't sap powers. It doesn't have any effect until it actually hits you.
