Just buy a new 3ds and hack it for that price, it's about the same price and can play both ds and 3ds games alongside a ridiculous amount of emulators
Am I the only one thinking that paying 200$ for that is too much?
Honestly a price like that sounds crazy for me especially if we have to build it ourselves.

It's for people who want to build something themselves and not just "hack" an existing system.
I have a modded 3ds and it's okay for what it is and for playing my 3ds and DS games. But most emulators (for example retroarch and snes9x) are very unstable on the 3ds and run like ass.
And the screen on this unit is bad yes. But the 240p screen on a 3ds isn't that much better tbh.
Oh and of course the 3ds can't run N64 games as well. So yeah.
There are other game boys like this who are much better suited for the task of emulating the "newer" consoles like PSX and N64. Most of them have a Pi 3 in them. This would be a better choice.

Wow this is super Intersting! I not that great at Coding, but still seems great for those who are!
all I want is a PCB that fits in a GBP shell with no exterior shell mods, has a backlit color screen, rechargeable battery pack where reg batteries go, usb charging port where the EXT port is or using original DC3V in is, working volume wheel, contrast wheel to adjust screen brightness, and runs retropie! I’ve been thinking about it for a while
I love the concept of a libre hardware game console, especially a portable one! Early days but wow this is an amazing time to be in this scene.

You should make a video on Faceball 2000, X, and Elite. These are the only games featuring true vector 3D rendered graphics released on the original Gameboy and the NES.
If the game fella ever ends up in stores it should have Nintendrew videos on it!
Looks like a awesome handheld. I use a psp for my retro games and it still works great just its starting to get scratched and needs to be replaced soon.

Hmm this I can ddo since I've been doing model kits for over a year now
Building the GameShell myself gave me more of an appreciation for having and using it, and its my favorite looking handheld console I've ever owned.
But for its price and the difficulty of that comes from using Linux with no prior experience, I wouldn't recommend buying this to most people.
Sure, if you're interested in the customization, coding and development sides of owning the GameShell, then I think you would like this.
There are just better options to get most of the same functions.
They should make a portable modular GameCube portable some day.

Having just recently henkaku'd my vita, I'd recommend going either the PSP or Vita route as well. Not only is the power and overall quality better, but you have the benefit of it being an actual system that cold run pre-owned games as well if they tickled your fancy (more a point for the Vita tho, since PSP emulation makes UMDs moot)
@@calllen PSP lags in genesis without frameskip, at least in Sonic 3. Couldn't play Mario world without frameskip too. GBA is perfect, PS1 perfect, NES and Master System too

For cheap, a bittboy v2 w/ custom firmware @40 bux is worth a look. I swapped out the dpad with a Gameboy pocket one (had extras from a pi zero build)

I wish some of these companies would make a version this device that imitates the original Game Boy Advance AGB-001. I just find the OG Game Boy design incredibly uncomfortable. They only replicate it for nostalgia purposes. I have grown man hands now!

After a while of thinking my actual setup is, my phone for all nintendo consoles include 3ds and the switch for all the actual games in that way i dont have to wait for nintendo to made the switch retrocompatible with gba or n64
