I absolutely love "Solatorobo: Red The Hunter", which I still have in my Nintendo DS library, and it is perhaps the only JRPG-style game ever made in which the characters are anthropormorphic animals instead of humans, which is probably the reason why it remains one of my favorite games on the console, and I really wish other companies that work on RPGs like Square-Enix would design games with those kinds of characters as well! ^^
Yeeeah it's actually pretty lame, I heard you could marry characters in it but idk man it just looks weird to me, not to mention it's filled to the BRIM with loading zones, like you can't even take 5 steps without going through one
It is a good game for the Ds, it doesn't hold up great today due to all the loading, but it did do abit more then ACWW, where you can fly to an Island to fish. There mystery missions to do to but you have a play often enough to get the effects. There hidden characters, like making everyone believe in a fairy and well you meet a fairy. It really good for a ds game considering how much they crammed onto it. I couldn't personally get into it due to the spells and everything cost tones and it took forever to build money unlike animal crossing. So its a hit and miss. In the UK the game worth £30
Yeah, it is definitely one of my favorite Nintendo DS games that I remember getting at a local GameStop back in 2011, and I think it's a real shame that everyone missed out on such a gem because I absolutely love everything about the game, especially since it is also the only JRPG-style game in which the characters are anthropomorphic animals instead of humans, which I've always had a soft spot for as long as I can remember. ^^

I believe the NTSC version of Animaniacs was cancelled due to the Bad press in Europe. I mean think about it. There's no real point in shelling the game out if it got slammed hard in another region. Yeah they could sell it on shelves but at the same time printing those copies would be expensive. And consumers who buy the game wouldn't be paying that much to even cover 1/4 of the printing cost. To the company it was essentially a failed project so they decided to simply stop production, call up any store or even any Warehouses they had that kept the copies and told them to return everything. Happened a few times with other games so who's to say it didn't happen here? There's been some games that got made over in Japan that got panned by critics which HAD an English translation and all but because of the low scores and failure over in that region, the translation and shipping was scrapped making the game or even series a Japan or European exclusive.
I didn’t know Solatorobo was that rare! I got it when it first came out as a bundle with the soundtrack CD. It’s actually one of my favorite games ever.
I knew solatorobo would be on this list. I actually own that one. While I didn't manage to get the launch version with the soundtrack I did get a version cib of the regular game. I found it randomly at a GameStop when I was in my senior year of high school. It was like $22 or something. Imagine my surprise when I looked it up on eBay a year or two later and found out that loose carts were going for around $70-$80. Very fun game. Definitely going to keep it
I have a copy with the CD soundtrack that I got during launch, but for whatever reason I never played the game at all or listened to the soundtrack. So...would anyone be able to estimate the value of something like that now?
I preordered the game and the soundtrack, and I absolutely love the thing. It threw me for a loop and I consider it highly underappreciated tbh. I freakin' love Re:CODA (well, I love the whole soundtrack, but I'm giving that one special mention).
Well...I didn't hear of any of these titles until now, thanks for a cool vid! Also, I will now be getting my hands on the Little Red Riding Hoods Zombie BBQ, it looks fun as heck!
Woah! Really? Shepherds Crossing is worth that much??? I got the game as a kid because I loved the Harvest Moon franchise but I really couldn't get into that game. It sat sitting in my old ds games for years :') I may have donated it to a thrift store when I moved so... I'm really hoping that my dumb butt somehow still kept it and it's sitting in my dad's storage somewhere 😂
I'd argue The Legendary Starfy is extremely rare. Hardly anyone knows about it. It's the fifth and final game of its series and the only one localized. Shame cause I've played through it and it's a really good platformer but it's hardly available anymore. Then there's Vampire Legends: Power of Three, which I'm playing through occasionally and can't freaking understand. The only thing blocking my progress - THE GOSH DANG SEWERS. LIKE WHY CAN'T I GET ANYTHING NO MATTER HOW MUCH I RUB MY SCREEN!
this might be a small thing but i know for a FACT that animaniacs came out here. i remember noticing it at game stores as a kid because i was a big fan of the show but i never ended up buying it. unless there's some mandela effect style shenanigans going on here, this game did release in north america. it might have just been incredibly limited.
@@cellofellow5115 the problem is if it exists at all barring something classified the internet would find out about it and info would be available on it.

I've got 4/5, I'm only missing Shepherd's Crossing. I've been looking for that forever. Complete though, that's a whole other story. I only have LRRHZBBQ (what a mouthful) complete, I hate how hard DS cases and manuals are to find. Some of those are worth more than the games themselves.
It's odd too because the cases were plastic and so nice and you could put the game back in there when you were done. I never kept my GBA game boxes, but I kept all the DS game cases and even the handheld's box for a while.
@@asciicatface It's probably because people would often just take the games with them in those cases that can contain a bunch of games. Boxes would end up lost over time. It's so much easier to find Sega Genesis games in boxes than it is for Super Nintendo. Those cardboard boxes didn't last. When you do find them they are usually in such a bad shape anyway.
My guess is that NTSC Animaniacs DS is the Honus Wagner Card of video games - it was released, or at least manufactured, but recalled so fast or even before official launch that only a few copies of it slipped through. If it was recalled before release, there is a chance that some store somewhere didn't send back its shipment and kept it or sold it. Had the recall been post release, then for sure at least a few copies exist somewhere.
Little Red Ridding Hood Zombie BBQ looked great, but boy is that a heap of cash to own. Titles like these always amaze me that it was on Nintendo at all. I think that is why they always pass my radar and I have to collect them way after there release date. Here's to hoping I find it in a Moving Sale or Yard Sale. No way am I paying for that game right now on the market. Thanks for the info as the DS is my travel buddy now a days. Use to be my GB Advance SP, but it recently broke, so now I go with the DS.
i actually got to play an unreleased DS game. my dad worked with a video company like 13 years ago so i used to be able to go and test out games for multiple platforms before their release. it was really awesome. The DS game was Crash Bandicoot Tag Team Racing i believe.
WHAT?! THEY ACTUALLY HAD A DS VERSION OF CRASH TAG TEAM RACING IN THE WORKS?! There's a reason why I react that way. I actually owned a copy of the *released* Playstation 2 version. I enjoyed the crap out of it. Kind of mind blowing that they were thinking of porting it to the DS at one point.
I recall the Animaniacs game in Gamestop when it was new and thought exactly "Why is this out when that show has been over for so long?" I can't recall if it was the GBA or DS version unfortunately. Gamestop online has them labelled for $15 on DS if they are ever stocked though.
I’m obsessed with the “welcome to the town you now own a farm good luck” genre, Rune Factory was my gateway drug and while I have yet to actually obtain games 2-4 I religiously watch every video about them on RUclips and one day I’ll buy them all and waste my life, along with harvest moon and every other similar game I can get my hands on. I even got inspired to plant a vegetable garden at my house. You ever get so addicted to a video game you start being productive in real life? Yeah. Too bad I’ll probably never get my hands on the one in this video.
Animaniacs was suppose to release their game to: United States Canada Mexico Panama Haiti Jamaica Peru, Republic Dominican Cuba Caribbean Greenland El Salvador too... I can go on
Great video as always, Drew! I hadn’t heard of ANY of these (outside of SolataRobo)... that Animal Crossing clone is wild! Hahaha some devs have no dignity.
Iirc from other videos I have seen, what particulary bumps solatorobo´s us price up aswell is that it comes with the bonus mission pre installed-or at least something along those lines, you can´t get these bonus missions anyomre otherwise. I live in the eu,germany to be precise, and while the game is hard to find here too,I got it at gamestop for 10€,which was also the first time I even saw the game on any shelf since it´s initial release,I had been aware of the game for years,i just couldn´t find it. One fun time though:finding european copies of the world ends with you, especially in countries wasn´t actually sold in,this results in it being practically impossible to find the game anywhere below 45€.
After a good amount of research, I thoroughly believe that the Animaniacs: Lights, Camera, Action video game was canceled for a release in America. So, let's see how I did. First, I had to find out the main differences between PAL packaging and NA packaging. That resulted in a difference in ratings (PAL had a Pegi rating, while NA had the ESRB). I conducted a search from there, following Nintendrew's steps along the way. First, I looked on third-party selling sites such as eBay to start. There, I found that most, if not all of the copies that were being sold were PAL copies. This resulted in a dead end as Nintendrew had mentioned. Next, I decided to continue my search on first-party sites such as Amazon and Gamestop. There, I noticed that both were selling different cover arts for the game. The main difference between the two is the logos, where the PAL version has Warner Bros, Nintendo, etc, the NA version only has the logo of the publisher, Ignition Entertainment. While Amazon was selling games with the PAL cover, I saw that Gamestop was selling what can be assumed as the NA cover art. Finally, I looked on Nintendo's website and the ESRB to confirm some loose ends. On ESRB's website, I found that there was an actual rating for the NA title, but not much else. When I looked on Nintendo's website, I believe that I found what I believe to be some sort of divider between released and unreleased. There, I found out that the cover art for the game matched the one that I found on Gamestop, but also that there seem to be either a lack of production of the game or just a flat out cancellation of the release. When looking at release titles for the Nintendo DS, I was able to find the game, but no way to buy a physical copy. I thought of this a confirming point but soon found out that other games also had this lack of physical copies. This story, of course, has many twists and turns after all, with some collectors on Reddit explaining how a NA copy of Animaniacs: Lights, Camera, Action is actually real, but didn't find enough physical evidence to base my conclusion on it. Therefore, I think that due to a dwindling fanbase and a horrid review score, Animaniacs: Lights, Camera, Action was canceled before release. Thank you for reading, and I hope this satiates for those who were wondering about what happened. @@kenwozetek436 Thank you so much for the confirmation! I'm not old enough to have actually watched Animaniacs, so I didn't really have the will to buy the game. I also didn't have my own personal experience to base it off of.
Brey I'm going to give you a like because the effort you went to, to source all this information is actually really admirable and deserves to be praised. Kenneth, I'm sorry buddy that's rough I got the game myself in the UK and to tell the truth I did enjoy it not so much because it's a good game (it isn't) but because it reminds me of those hella awkward liscenced ISOmetric PC games from the late 90's and early 2000's.
I watched this then went rummaging through my DS games. I have two, Solatorobo and Magicians Quest. Then I had to dig in separate boxes for the cases...whew, I do have them! I keep them separate so if someone lifts the case they won't get the game. That's happened to me. Solatorobo has a Soundtrack that came with it. So I fired up Magicians Quest to remind myself. The first music that played from my save file was Schubert's Ständchen that I play on the piano. Awesome! Great video😊
I once won a DS game, think it was called wild horses, it was so hard to come by that whenever I tried to trade it in, the game wouldn't scan so they could never accept it. I might still have it cause I couldn't get rid of it lol
I haven't the foggiest idea of how you managed to do this, but you've managed to make my Aspergers Syndrome absolutely *obsess* over Solatorobo. I haven't had a spell like this in years. Thank you for this.
To be fair Spirit Tracks does have a limited edition version that came with a tin which is absurdly expensive. Not sure if it's in America but it is in Europe.
I was NOT expecting to see Solatorobo here.... or anywhere at all! I got the collectors edition of that game just because it looked unique and I absolutely LOVED it. So wish there were more games or other media to go with it.
Drew, I've put together a small collection of DS games that were important to me during my childhood. I'm not out to collect every single game in existence, but rather 10 or 15 games for each console that I've collected, and there's something I've gotta ask you. Do you have Kirby Super Star Ultra for the Nintendo DS? I have a cartridge of it and ten more empty DS boxes, but I have not found even one full scan of the cover art. Maybe you could scan it in for me and a few others...? Best regards, Drop/Brandon
I went through my bag of DS games my brother gave me, and in it I found SolaToRobo and Magicians Quest. My brother took SolaToRobo and sold it but I still have Magicians Quest. Thanks for making this list and letting me know that I have a rare game in my hands!
I've been waiting for this one! In part because I own games I knew would be on this list. It's my understanding that Shepard's Crossing 2 is so rare because it was only available to purchase directly from its US publisher's website, said publisher being Graffiti Entertainment. I bought a loose cart for 100 bucks, and it's the most I've ever spent on a single game purchase at once. I genuinely enjoy it, though--I like that it's a little bit harsh, both in difficulty and tone. I bought a copy of Magician's Quest when it was new (the day it came out, in fact), and I'm REALLY glad I did. I actually liked it better that Wild World; I loved its fantasy theme, its music, and the spell system letting me feel like I had more control over the world (like choosing the weather). Every so often I'll see this discussion: "Are there any games like Animal Crossing out there?" And I hate then whenever I bring this up, it's with the caveat that it's really expensive to purchase. It's my understanding that the sequels moved away from the AC formula, but they only released in Japan. You know what game I'm surprised isn't here? Avalon Code. I had a devil of a time hunting down a copy, and they were all pricey.
You're almost spot-on about Shepherds Crossing 2 there my friend. I'm not entirely certain why but Graffiti decided to release the game exclusively via Amazon which was a large contributing factor to it's rarity, they certainly aren't the only company to have done this but by the time most gamers found out about the game (an incredibly difficult thing to do as most gaming publications had no knowledge of the release date) the game had sold out. I don't believe it was ever given a second run. Avalon Code is also a really funny one because when it launched in the UK it was very rare than at some point a number of copies were distributed in a short time period... and then the game became hard to find again. So I'm not sure what happened there. The game is expensive but I'm not certain it's as rare as some other games on the system like Black Sigil, Dark Spire or other games like it.
Heh! Thanks for the correction. It does seem like Avalon Code's price fluctuates a little bit, and it definitely needs to be a complete boxed copy to command prices like those seen in this video. It's already on the pricier end, though, and if it's not top 5, I wouldn't be surprised if it's top 10.

Tyler Larsen I will second that. I’ve been through two 200+ hour games over 4 years and I haven’t talked to 3 of the players of those 2 games in years
Well, that’s an Atlus game for you
I believe the NTSC version of Animaniacs was cancelled due to the Bad press in Europe.

I got Starfy loose at GameStop years ago for 5 bucks and it's sold used on the website for 10. Might be overpriced on certain listings, but not rare.

I'm the other way around; I've got Shepherd's Crossing CIB, but none of the other games XD Always on the lookout..
shadowDriverV2 Wanna trade? :^ )

@@Gigashart911 *when this was made the game was still rare dumbass*
