  • Turkish pilaf with orzo "Şehriyeli Pilav" is our favorite side dish at home that goes well with almost any Turkish dish. With browned orzo in butter, it has a nutty taste and with hints, it is very fluffy.

I made rice your way tonight for dinner. It was perfect!!!! I didn't have orzo so I broke spaghetti into one inch pieces. I did everything else exactly like instructed. It was fabulous!!! My family loved it!!! The rice was perfect. It wasn't sticky at all. My new forever recipe!!! Thank you so much. I'm still smiling over how my rice came out. I even kept a teapot with hot water on the stove to add to the rice!!!! Next the chicken dish!!!

Hi Sharon, your welcome. I am very happy to hear that 😊 it is our family’s favorite too. Enjoy it.
What type of rice did you use? Where do you live? Itncan help to the others trying to find the best rice other than Turkish ones we use

Hello dear person. I live in San Jose, California. I used Mathama Long Grain Rice. We have many international stores here so I may have been able to find the rice you listed. We have many varieties in our supermarkets. I used what I had on hand . Next I'm going to use Jasmine or Basmati. We are quarantined here and all I have is a large package of Basmati so that will be next. There is no rice of any kind left in most supermarkets.

Selam Ayşenur hanım, I've made your recipe a few times now and it tastes absolutely delicious! The only difference is that after sautéing the orzo and rice together, I immediately transfer it to my rice cooker (a must have in all Asian households 😁) It makes the rice more fluffier! My Türk husband prefers my rice over his mother's but I told him never to say that to Anne or we will both get into trouble! Thank you so much for your recipe! ❤️

The Turkic tribe residing in Central Asia migrated all over, one group settled in Anatolia (Modern day Turkey), So of them settled in Afghanistan region as a part of Ghanavid Empire like the Ilbari Turks and Khaljis...They are the ones who later set up empires in India starting from Qutubddin Aibak , Itutmish and all... later Mughals, who were also Turk-Mongol Mix, infact they spoke Chagatai Turkish Language, they came and ruled India.. So basically India has 600 years of Turkish rule.. We neednt be suprised at all :)

@Mamma Roma And the Uzbek plov, another rice pilaf dish which is pretty similar to our Indian biryani (in Awadhi-style, we add aloo bakhras, a sweet-sour dry fruit too). Also, paella in Spain, another rice pilaf using various poultry, sea food and spices including saffron. Then, there's Somali jollof rice whic is made of a gravy of tomatoes, onions, garlic and chillies topped with fried onions. Maybe, in the east, China adapted it to make the famous fried rice, a different variety of essentially the same dish! Isn't it awesome? 😄

Just discovered your channel - and love your cooking instructions! Precise if necessary, otherwise figurative and fully accurate when it comes to experience and feeling."The rice and the orzo should be like sand" - at the beginning you wonder, but when cooking it is exactly that: the rice behaves like the sand on the beach when building castles. I didn't have a homemade chicken stock, I used a high-quality broth, I think that's indispensable. Perfect result - thank you very much!

I went to a restaurant and had this rice dish your cooking. The only difference is the rice I had was small like little drops of pearl. Small and round. I would like to know the name of this rice so I can buy it. If you know please comment.
