Nice informative video. I work at a repair shop that specializes in fleet vehicles and we've seen an increase in customers who have had theirs stolen as well, most of which are tucks that are quite easy to lay underneath. Sadly the most recent was a bus the local food pantry uses to bring food to people that have trouble with transportation. This vehicle has been targeted twice already now and after this last time I made a cage for it out of rebar. Its a little crude looking but will help deter would be thieves who as you pointed out are looking for quick unobstructed removal.
Salute to you, for taking the time to do that for them.
Yesterday, here in North Carolina a guy/thief was crushed by a car while he was trying to cut the catalytic converter off a car.
Good! Wish this happened to all of them.
great ... karma
That's good news.
Yep. Another one bites the dust 🤣
Good 👍
for someone to steal a catylitic converter there must first be one in place to steal, great video brother, stay safe out there
Best way to keep thieves from your catalytic converter is to own a vehicle that doesn't have one to begin with.
True! I lot of people are just replacing it with a straight pipe.
@@TheUrbanPrepper Some cars you can get away with that, but some of the emissions crap will have a fit LOL.
@@wildbill23c Don't drive a new car.
@@SirenaSpades Your right I don't, and wouldn't want one.
We had a bunch of diesel ones stolen off of our delivery trucks. Like 12
Interesting. There have been a lot of thefts of CC where I live. I never knew why. Thanks for the information.
I have a Toyota Prius and they are getting hit hard, so I built a cheap movement sensor alarm under my car, from cheap remote alarms from eBay.
Moral of the story..
Put a switch on your car to make it drop to the ground when being tampered with.
Said and done...
That is really clever!!
Yeah that'll work. The cost? You could also let the air out of all four tires or remove them every time you park.
Oh yeah let's put a multi thousand dollar hydraulic system in the car to prevent the theft of a $500 part. That's smart.....
@@TheUrbanPrepper It really isn't.
@@FBobby
Its ok don't cry
Also get aftermarket alarm sensors that detect if the car has been jacked up and then send a alert to your phone
Good video!
This is motivation to clean out the garage and actually park the car in there.
Or drive it through the gate and park it in the back yard.
Have a great weekend!

Great video. 💯 Very informative and important.
I guess running a battery to the cat cover would be illegal right?
Who exactly is going to tell on you? Help police, my friend was electrocuted when he tried to steal this guy's fancy car bits!
@@LaineyBug2020 yeah probably something like that. He lives in Washington state, Seatle area.
Run an extension cord under the hood to look like your keeping it on a tender. Surprise 120 to the ground.
Happened to my Honda Element in Everett in my Neighborhood driveway in the middle of the night
Had my Honda Element catalytic converter stolen this August outside of a bed bath & beyond in Knoxville Tennessee. They also cut the oxygen sensor when they stole it so I had to replace that too 🚙
Whoever that tries to steal the catalytic converter from my car will be disappointed.. cause it's too old and doesn't have one..
This happened just a few days ago in my town from a car pooling lot. It's like a $2000 job to fix. Awful.
Ouch. Yeah, that would hurt and what I've been worried about.
FINALLY ,,HELP AND GOOD SUGGESTIONS
Glad you enjoyed it!
I was too a victim of such crime, Honda CRV 2006. Went to police, no help.
Shame on Feds not to protecting us.
Dear Ueban Prepper, Thank you for the great video. Our vehicles are so important yet many times under protected. I will be sharing video my family & friends. Best from SF Bay Area, CA.
You are very welcome, Carmen! I hear that this type of theft is very common in San Francisco. Thanks for sharing!
You should use some Red Tread Lock on your security screw and bolt. Otherwise, you can bypass most of them using Knipex twingrip or Engineer PZ-59. Just choose the right size...
Now if you've already had your stolen there is no point to put one of these catalytic converter guards on your aftermarket catalytic converter as those have no precious metals in them and are not worth anything so don't let a repair shop tell you otherwise
I'm about to get a new one installed and yeah I really cant have it stolen again
The best way to prevent your catalytic converters from being stolen is to not have any.
My brother just bought his first car. It's a 2010 Dodge Charger. No special features, just a base model. Last night, someone cut the grill off of it. Turns out the grill was just plastic. The cops where called but my family is puzzled why the grill was cut off. Anyone have any answers?
weld a peewag square chain along the exhaust pipe noway they cut thru that they would have to use a cutting torch....
Had mine stolen off my integra today at work🤣
Keep in mind if you have comprehensive on your insurance policy there is a high likelihood this is covered.
My cousin had hers stolen:she's an attorney and put an anti theft device.
Dope video bro 😎
Hi, Urban Prepper. Can you do a review of Original Defense Eternalight? Do they actually work?
Well, harmless isn't exactly what I'd call the CO2, but I get it lol.
Looks like there are 4 bolts that hold this cover. Do you think it will stop thiefs?
I have 6 holding it to the frame. I changed our a few for different bits. They would need to spend a lot of time to try and remove them all. It's more of a deterrent. If a thief really wants to they will be able to steal anything.
I guess you could go with those irreversible slotted bolts created for bolts for burglar bars and whatnot. (maybe locknuts and lock-washers too?)
I think they would just cut through it when they cut down the cat. It's aluminum. Very easy to cut.
easy when we catch them ask "two to the head, or two to chest" If they look at you stupid make your own choice. play stupid games win stupid prizes
Thank you. I was wondering what was going on.
You're welcome!
Great tip MR!
Are t these thieves concerned about the environononment????🥺😩They are killing the Erth!!!!
i considered a concertina wire cage.
i been thinking about this for a while. and the cover is all good but im more cynical. how about something that will spray a substance in the face while they slide under the car. and can take pictures and audio, an advanced model can shoot a spear downward and pin the person down while it sends a text to the cops and you.
My state doesn't require emissions. So technically you could cut it off, sell it, fill in the gap, get better fuel mileage and use the money for preps 😆 check mate.
Thanks. Shared.
Wow!
its worst in California, due to Cats need to CA compliant . therefore you cant buy those cheap ones online.
There's a lot of this in Omaha. And manhole covers.
Theft prevention isn't always about having impenetrable security, a large part is just making your stuff harder to steal than the next guys.
My 1974 International travelall doesn’t have one of those thingamajigys ? Reminds me not to buy a new car!
Good strategy! :)
With self defense
That’s a shame you even have to make a video about this. Smh. It’s only getting worse. Thanks fellow prepper.
I agree. I figured I would help get the word out. Sad that we're getting to this point in society...
My mom's catalytic converter learned how to walk from Monroe muffler shop so........😒
Looks like it was just one bolt going to the frame
There's 3 on each side (6 total) into the game. I made mine with one flat bolt, three security torx, and two hex. They could open it but it would take a few different bits and more time. Again, it's just meant to slow them down, not stop them.
Get Amarok electric fence
What about heat dissipation? Won't it make the cat hotter during operation?
I'm keeping an eye on that, for sure.
Very common crime in my area.
Yep. In Seattle too. San Francisco is the worst, from what I've heard.
@@TheUrbanPrepper You called it, im in Sf Bay Area lol.
Took mine off.
Well, let's see here get a camera, lights & the saying you have the right to bear arms & defend your property!
$200 is a bit steep! Also how do I make my smelter legal? :P One easy solution would be to run the cat inside under the rear seat, but car makers aren't bright. Some still put their engines in sideways ffs.
I wonder if manufactures will start changing the design of the vehicles.
@@TheUrbanPrepper they should. They changed window design to make it harder to use a slim jim.
That is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. You cannot run an Exhaust pipe inside the car. are you trying to kill people?
Oh and ya know what's also usually under the rear seat in most modern cars? The FUEL TANK.
WTF
Great video & info!
I see some screws to install though, can they just unscrew them it’s a drill or screw driver?
Can I use this protector on a Toyota RAV4 & Camry or this one was only for Honda?
Where did you buy it?
They would need to bring a security torx bit set, allen key, and a socket set. The screws are a combination in different locations. But yes, they will be able to if they have enough time. This more for deterring them. I bought mine directly from Aerogenics.
I pitty the fool who steals my cat 😂
They stole my dad's off his truck and it was in a locked building.
Wow! That's horrible.
This video is for people who drive not legal, who refuse to pay insurrance on their cars haha
A thieve does not like to work to hard.
What if your catalytic converter goes bad and needs to be replaced by a mechanic lol
It will cost more in labor, that's for sure!
Wrap it in a gnarly cocoon of wire!
Some people do that method.
🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
Should just replace your cat with a fake one without precious metals inside.
Ouch! Sounds like karma.
Booby trap your under carriage with bang sticks that divers use to fight off sharks.
Yeah, they would have to bring a lot of extra tools. Thanks for watching! BTW, when are we going to hang out again?
Let's Go Brandon
FJB!
You know you can just say you hate Biden. No one's gonna come to your house over it so you don't have to be a scared little bîtçh about it and use a code like your in primary school. lol
@@crazycodplayer11 Oh my God, I never thought of that... Thank you, you are pure genius!
The sad part is there's like $10-20 worth of precious metals in it, at best. My solution? Don't run one. I ride a motorcycle. ;)
Makes no sense bro. Why would someone buy it for $200?
Had mine stolen off my Honda Element this year while I was at a morning dentist appointment. So bold!
That is horrible! Yeah, people have been surprised that mine hasn't been stolen yet.
Yea, I have a Honda Element too and had mine stolen twice in about 3 years.
Horrible
This is why I think we should be able to have and electrified security system on cars. Can't steal 💩 if they can't touch it without getting zapped!
Definitely need a Home Alone security set up there haha. Electric shock sounds good! Maybe engineering a cover for the catalytic converter that when removed triggers some pepper spray bottles, that would be a fun one for criminals under the car!
I like the way you think 😂
tell me you know nothing about cars without telling me you know nothing about cars.
thats the way I see it⚡⚡⚡😁🤣🤣🤣
The Law wants Theft and crime it is how they make a living!!! That is why the government does not want you to protect yourself. Catalytic Converters theft in my areas aren't being sold for $200 but rather $10 - $20.
"THIS IS NOT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER...YOUR LOOKING FOR ".....
in your best ObiWan voice...over your ring doorbell....
Good info! We live in Northern Wisconsin. We found that the local thief’s would ship them to a guy in New Jersey who would buy them.
Would suck for them if they came to my house because all my vehicles are straight pipe lol
Another great video with very useful information.
This reminds me of police and bad guys constant fight:
Police have guns, bad guys get better guns.
Police get bullet proof armor, bad guys get armor piercing rounds.
In this constant evolution world, seems like someday we all be driving tanks, but then again, even those are susceptible to something else.
Great video, great job!
"armor piercing rounds" Not really a thing anymore. Level 4 plates are rated to stop 30.06 armor piercing.
God bless you man. Your content is ever interesting and reasonable.👍
Thank you so much. I really appreciate that.
In WW2, as Germany was losing. Soldiers rigged a grenade to a hollowed out wall, the pin attached by string to a painting which concealed the explosive. The picture was intentionally placed skewed. The idea behind this trap was that it would target high ranking allied officers. As officers were likely to be the only one's concerned with fixing the skewed picture, which would tug on the wire releasing the pin.
You could do something similar using wire and buckshot.
So sad.
I knew some reformed thieves when I lived in California several year's ago. They told me that if a vehicle had too many deterrents that they would go to the next vehicle.
if you are parking up in a strategic spot which makes it harder to access the cat because it is near a wall or fence that would make life more difficult. If you are parking up for a week or three when you go on vacation you could put a pair of boots on the wheels and attach a steel pipe between to make access more difficult, or hire a lock-up garage
Except that those boots are pretty easy to defeat if you have the knowledge and the tools. There's at least one video showing how it can be done, and you really don't even need the specialty tool if you don't mind damaging the boot. ='[.]'=
@@Raycheetah The thing is, you're *never* stopping a thief. You are only delaying them, hopefully long enough to make the entire operation unsavory ...
@@3nertia Removing the boot can be done even more quickly than the catalytic converter. It just depends on how well-equipped the thief is. ='[.]'=
When I go on vacation, I take my car with me.
better yet have a shield with bits of tungsten and diamond mixed in so that their saw blades kick back and destroy their saw when it hits a vain of the much harder and denser material.
There is a downside to cat-lock as I recently learned, if the hard-working thief jacks up your car only to be disappointed to see a lock on it, the thief will most likely damage something else as an act of revenge for wasting his valuable time, in my case the fuel lines were cut along with some electrical wires, if only we were allowed to shoot these vermins or do what I did buy a car that is not easily accessible to the cat then it might stop or at least the manufacture will rethink in how to get around it by not making it so easy to access, as cat lock theft is a pandemic itself and only getting worse.
Hello from Everett, WA
👍 I just got to pray a hope it doesn't to me
Um, do you realize how easy it is to cut through aluminum?
it's a DETERRANT, not an impenetrable fortress! He said deterrent like 3 or 4 times.
Sadly this is happening more and more in our area. It happens within a few minutes too.
Id jump in and drive off while they were under it.
Ouch! :)
Thank you so much for this information! And thank you for all you continue to do for the community!
You are very welcome!
Since catalytic converters run hot normally, does adding that shield increase the temperature too much?
Saw one complaint about that, but looking at several, they have vents that should bleed off some of the heat.
@@durgan5668 sounds good!
Damn good question. Of course they need to be in a hot area by design, but maybe too hot w this.
@@bedrosnersesyan6975 thanks!
Amazing waste of tallent if a thief can remove a cat in less than 60 seconds - he'd be better off working in a garage on percentage bonus.
There's a room attached to most houses that can help prevent theft and vandalism. It's called a garage.
My son's got stolen while he was at work. I'll tell him to take the garage with him next time.
Solution: ram it out so it's empty. Reinstall.
I don’t know why you’re you’re protecting these thieves by blurring their faces. They deserve to be exposed.
Thank you very much for your video
Just buy a 2000-2017 Audi. They’ll need to disengage the transmission from the engine, and break their wrists to attempt access to them.
Not to mention the high possibility of them already being blown out.
Someone stole our Catalytic Converter, We are getting a new car and we are definitely getting a Catalytic Converter cover.
Cut it out yourself. Put in an 02 sensor spacer. Done. Problem solved. Can't steal it if it's not there.
This is a huge issue in Portland metro right now
Shocking...
best way to prevent against cat theft, take it off yourself XD
i just took mine off and sold it before they could steal it
