Hi Caroline: I’ve been listening to you for several years. I love all the different phases, even that early folk-country phase where you’re singing in a barn or something (if I recall), and you had Long Hair. I can picture it. And I like how you Developed into a fuller sound, with keyboards, and brought your humor into your career - I’m remembering your video on the Beach, and there are 2 other girls on the Beach, and the video is funny. Then, there’s the video with The Woman who has gotten married, and she’s vacuuming, and you’re part of the carpet. With each song & video, your music is changing and improving and becoming more elaborate, and your sense of humor is shining through. And then you switch to even more Pop, when you’re in Hollywood, California, and your agent tells you you’re supposed to be in Hollywood, Florida, and you walk across the country to get where you’re supposed to be, like a Pop version of Forrest Gump. That was a Great Leap Forward for you, where the song describes a person where everyone is trying to make you who they think you should be, but you want to do something MORE FUN & MORE YOU. It was GREAT, and I loved it. Then, you made Miami, which I think is another leap forward for you, because it’s a VERY PERSONAL, MORE MATURE work ---- Not just the song, but the video, as well. (Sidenote: I’m from Omaha, but lived in Austin for 3 years.) The Maturity is: It’s Very Sincere. You kind of Drained Out the humor, and showed a lot of vulnerability. The video really showed how much you loved her, but she didn’t, and that’s so heartbreaking. And you kept it vague: Did these 2 people just meet? Have they been together for a while, and this is the end? You let the audience decide, which is The Best. I personally think they just Met, and they have a Whirlwind Hour or Two, and separate, which can be just as painful as losing someone you’ve been with for years. At any rate, I hope you know there are lots of people in this world who are happy to hear your new stuff. Keep keeping on.
hahhaha... i like how he encourages the happy part, because that's what the industry wants. Girl,..... you made a masterpiece and I'm glad you were brave enough to let it be.... I just took my daughter and friend to see you because I wanted to show aspiring musicians what bravery in songwriting looks like and how to process the pain to beauty to have it serve a higher purpose (I also think you show a journey many women/girls go through.) Also.... because from the first time I saw you on tiny desk I knew you were one of the greats, and didn't want to miss my chance to see your energy. Not to blow hot smoke up your ass, because you are only human...but you are so gorgeous in all the ways that make a human truly gorgeous. Terrifyingly perfect in imperfection and honest in representation- brave indeed and to be admired. If the artist can master that alchemy they have the keys to the depths of the ocean, and can show others the way. May you live long and touch many souls. You do what most real artist dream to do...expose the fragility and confusion that truth is beauty, even if it's messy getting there. I admire you giving space and time to your stages and styles and don't fall victim to "staying in brand" as often artists, no matter the category are told by pro's to do. Last compliment.....You floored us all live! We spent half the concert spellbinded and wet eyed as one would experience a fresh heartbreak/ disappointment. The other half in happy release of dancing. Well done grasshopper, well done. xo
Ive been a huge fan of Caroline's for a while now! I really wish there was a way we could all send her voice messages of our praise! In hopes that this gets to you Caroline, I will say that I think you are amazingly original. For me, its your voice and how you allow your soul and your silliness to reign free through it! But also your craft, and how you mold your vulnerability into something so catchy and well executed! I've been through a coupke breakups in my life that almost killed me, and your latest album is hauntingly relatable to me. You are a rare and beautiful treasure! I don't mean to rant here but this sounded like a relevant place to let loose! 😬
I can't wait to see you in Healdsburg in May! You blow me away with every new release. You are as brilliant as you know you are and more so, just a matter of time before everyone else sees it. Truly moving and inspirational song writing!
such a huge fan. first saw you back in 2015 at the Pittsburgh Three Rivers Arts Festival. You played before Michael Franti. It was my favorite live performance I had ever seen at the time, I was only 14. You inspired me to start learning music, and 8 years later I am now pursuing music professionally and am in multiple bands. Much thanks for blowing my mind with sounds. Awesome to see your project evolve over time. My current favorite record of yours is Loner but I have such a strong feeling about this upcoming one. The two singles you dropped are already so amazing and so different yet the same. Doldrums was insane and has me mega hyped. Heres to you and to your continued success!
