This song is part of the Operation Mindcrime Crime album. It's a concept album it's hard to put this song in perspective unless you listen to the whole album. Worth a listen its outstanding.
Exactly. It's a masterpiece I bought in 1988, when I was 16. Still have it
Stole the words right from my finger's? Yep 😁 A true masterpiece!
THIS
Absolutely on point ☝️
You missed the last little spoken part at the very end after they say, ,"Revolution". After about a 20 second pause, Geoff (as the character Nikki) says, "I remember now."
This is the LAST song on the album. It's one long story, so without hearing the album's songs in order, you won't get the full lyrical impact.
A perfectly written, sung, and executed album!
The entire Operation Mindcrime should be done since it's a concept album.
Yes. You need to see listen to the whole album and see the concert. Deeply religious an deeply political.
STOP. the whole album is a masterpiece. It’s meant to be heard in it’s entirety, even if just on your own. If you listen to individual song songs you will ruin it for your self. Trust me. Go listen to the whole thing. It’s amazing.
What he said…😉
Since this is the Final Song of the world's Greatest Concept Album (From beginning to end tells an entire story), and you both being such HUGE lovers of music and real musical and vocal appreciation, I Personally believe you should do a "Full Album" reaction of Queensryche "Operation Mindcrime"... This way you can understand the entire story.
You will not regret it. You will be so glad that you did.
Please!!!!
Themes keep reoccurring and it makes more sense. The musical quality and vocal quality of this album cannot be missed. Even if you don't do a video, listen to it all. It's truly one amazing piece of work.
Geoff Tate was classically trained. So that gives you the opera talent. The official video will give you something of a great storyline from Queensryche's album OPERATION:MINDCRIME, one of the BEST concept albums ever made.
Yeah so, he had a famous voice coach (David Kyle), but I cannot find a single reference to him being "classically trained" (like Julliard?) anywhere. There are tons of folks who parrot that he has over and over, but nothing more. Geoff himself said in an interview that he "studied voice" and thought he might become an opera singer one day. That interview was pretty recent. Back in the 80s, he never mentioned it. Like Rob Halford and Ronnie Dio, there has never been confirmation from the singers themselves how and where they studied. With Geoff, he had a great coach/voice teacher.
@@grobin3745 the comment wasn't about singing opera but being classically trained.
Thank you @robin. Finally someone got the facts
Straight.
You should do the whole album of Operation Mindcrime it's one long story from being to end I think you would enjoy it. Have a great weekend
This singer is amazing! This album is definitely in my top ten of all time! I wore it out in the 80's!!
One of the best voices of rock 🤘
Facts ✌️😎
Luv your reactions.....I would love to see you guys do a album reaction to Operation Mind Crime. It shows how good theses guys song writing really was. Keep puttin in the work....love you guys.
I think they would break this album down and love it !
Yes! An immediate like. Queensryche has MANY hits.
Edit:
you didnt hear the entire opening.
This is a concept album.
Theres a story behind this song.
Definately do a "Queensryche Operation Mindcrime" series.
This is the last song on the album and the ending of the story. Without giving to much away, he’s now in a mental institution. “Straight jacket memories, sedative highs.”
Geoff Tate has the most amazing voice. Queensryche has a lot of great songs, would love to see a reaction to a few more.
Bj and Asia, the operation mindcrime album must be done in it's entirety because it is a concept album about a person who is being manipulated and brainwashed into becoming a serial killer. You must start at the very beginning.
Every word. I know every word to this entire album. OPERATION MINDCRIME is a freaking masterpiece!!!!!
Me too, funny thing is when watching TV show that involve hospitals setting you hear Dr Brown ,Dr J Nebolton Brown
Eyes of a Stranger is the end of a story told from the beginning of the album. Basically at the end of the album the main character is shocked by what happened and is describing his change.
Broken link. This is their best song...but you chose a bad link that's missing a good portion of the intro.
This is one of the last great "Rock Operas"...like "The Wall" or "Tommy." The whole album is an entire story and this is the end of it. If you had let it play you would have heard him say, "I remember now..." He is in a straight jacket, in a psych ward, under arrest. On the beginning of the album, he is the same way and says the same thing, "I remember now." So it's a story of the events that lead him to this, it comes full circle. I saw them do it LIVE twice, to perfection. The entire album, non stop...start to finish.
Don't forget that they continued the story 18 years later when Nikki was released from prison and went after Dr X for revenge on Operation Mindcrime 2. I saw them back to back nights front row in Orlando when they did that tour. They played both albums in their entirety with actors on stage for all of it. One of the best shows I have ever seen in my life.
This is a great album for a long road trip and yea Geoff has some fantastic vocals
Queensryche was hitting their prime and a very tight band. By Building Empires tour, they were hitting a level not many bands could achieve. They played this entire album and had the audience glued to the Mindcrime story they were telling. Geoff Tate had you believing it. I was lucky to see it a few times.
You are listening to Geoff Tate, in my opinion, the best metal singer out there, but the whole band is phenomenal! I was introduced to Queensryche in the 80's and Operation Mindcrime and The Warning are two of the greatest metal albums ever made! I'm not sure how many octaves Geoff has, I think it's 5 and he can sing opera as well! One of my favorite bands, thank you for your reaction!
Saw Geoff Tate in Bristol va in December. He was absolutely phenomenal , his voice is at least at 95% of what it was back in the day. An amazing experience in a small venue with a lot of interaction with the crowd.
@Hamfox I started out with that ep that has Lady Wore Black on it, great album!
more plz !!!
got to listen to whole album it's a story.
One of my favorite bands growing up. I saw them live on this tour. Epic!
Now please listen to the entire Mindcrime album in its entirety.
Then you will know the context of the song and understand where it fits in the Mindcrime story.
I remember everyone rockin this Summer'88 Queensr¥che from my hometown☆Bellevue/Seattle
There is a tiny bit more at the end if this song. He says, "I remember now."
This is the last song in the Mindcrime story. As such, you won't get the FULL meaning of the lyrics until you hear the whole story. But you made some insightful comments about the angst and pain in Geoff voice, as the character, Nikki, realises that he's done so many things he regrets that he doesn't know himself anymore. He's the stranger.
Even if you don't do a reaction of the whole album, I hope you'll listen to it just for yourselves. It's truly EPIC! And no one can convey emotion like Geoff!
The solution to everyone's problems lies in the mirror. Gotta fall in love with the reflection, which is difficult when we don't recognize who it is.
as everyone will tell you this is a song that is a part of a full concept album storyline that should be listened from front to back, you're hearing the end of the story FIRST !!! Time to review the whole 'Operation Mindcrime" album pretty pretty pretty pleeeeeasssseee !!!!
When he looks into the mirror, he doesn't even recognize the person that he has become anymore. That's why looking into the eyes of a stranger.
If you want to hear some of their awesome vocals, check out their song and video for the song (Take Hold of the Flames), you will be blown away!!!!
Whole cd is a masterpiece.. U2 need to hear ROAD TO MADNESS..
Wow, I was listening to Operation Mindcrime last night, Queensryche has to be my favorite band.
You all need to hear the whole album to understand the songs, It's all a story.
I lived in the guitarist's neighborhood for a while. I remember one year he had a big party.
Greatest concept album ever! Every time I witness/hear this song it reminds me of the great album I just heard along with the storyline that’s in my head.
Kick Ass Album and Song 😎🤘
It's a shame the song started in the video they watched half-way through the intro instead of the proper beginning. Add the fact they didn't know this song is the last on a concept album means they were thrown off by the ending of this song as well as the overall topic of it. Such a great song!
Are they talking about the song that started when the video started playing ?
This is like PF The Wall. You can’t listen to a song in the middle and understand what’s going on
Geoff
is a classically trained operatic vocalist.
If you liked his range on that, give a listen to Queensryche's "Take Hold of the Flame"
yes, the album should be listened to in its entirety . but, glad you’re back on Queensryche , BJ rocking out on this one🤘🏼. love you guys
I was at queensreich show when they first came to New York at a club called lamour east in Jan 1987 . I’m still talking about it. You ca find bits of that show on utube .
The lead singer can really belt it out!! 🤘😝🎙
Greatest concept album ever recorded!
its a masterpiece of an album
Check out Lady Wore Black or (if you really want range) Take Hold of the Flame, Queen of the Reich ok... I could just keep naming great songs of theirs Geoff Tate has one of the greatest voices in rock
You can't go wrong with any of those you mentioned
The Payolas Eyes of a Stranger is really good too
The lady wore black, take hold of the flame, roads to madness, breaking the silence of the night
And many others have said, this is the LAST SONG of *THE* greatest concept album of all time (well... okay, debatable, but MY favorite). The main character, Nikki, is bemoaning that he no longer knows himself, because of the madness he's been drawn into... no more spoilers, though. I KNOW it's not what you guys usually do, BUT... PLEASE think about doing the whole album -- in order. It's the most linear concept album too, so the story is clear and makes sense, etc.
Done Silent Lucidity? The singer Geoff Tate sometimes works with Avantasia.
A great early Queensryche song would be "Take hold of the Flame" live in Japan 1984!
React to that and you will get a lot of views!
He's my favorite singer his voice is a masterpiece check out killing words and I will remember both on Mtv unplugged
Please do this whole album and then comment on it song by song. This album needs to be listen to from start to finish. To understand it fully.
Do all RUclipsrs get a script that says what they have to react to, its like the same pattern that everyone else, same movies, same songs, only a few reactors doing other rare stuff.
They will be playing at the House of Blues Dallas next Saturday the 11th!
Yeah, what the others said. One of the best metal/rock albums ever. Lots of great songs on this, as well as their other albums. More please! Love your reactions.
What a voice!
y'all should react to Queensryche song I Don't Believe In Love
Geoff Tate is one of the Greats. He's not with Queensryche anymore, and he has his own band now. Him and the rest of the band in Queensryche had a falling out.
You should do a Operation Mindcrime album reaction
You really need to do take hold of the flame live in Tokyo, incredible live
no question, Take Hold of the Flame live from Tokyo has to be next
The REAL Eyes of a Stranger is from The Payolas, Not well known by todays generation, but check it out. I bet you enjoy it.
You have to listen to the album to understand the meaning of the song as it's from a concept album
If the song does not make since, it’s because you are at the end of a story
Amazing album
His voice can reach the rafters!!
Great analysis of that song guys! 👍👍😎
You guys must check out the song "Roads to Madness" It is epic. One of their best songs.
Fully agree.
Masterpiece of hard rock . So sad we have no albums like this anymore
I Remember Now !!😮
This album is a masterpiece
Weird that the beginning is cut off.
As many have said, this song is the final song of their concept album "Operation: Mindcrime."
In my opinion, it's best listened to, and understood, if you take a break from everything, and listen to the album, in its entirety...paying special attention to the lyrics, too get a fill grasp on the story.
Have to do whole album to really enjoy the story
Straight jacket memories, sedative highs....Listen to the complete album...start to finish....and you'll understand the story and what it's about....
Yo got to give a listen to the operation mind crime album. Preferably the live video version. A masterpiece is an understatement.
As others have said this needs to be listened to in its entirety to truly appreciate this album. Once you've done then react to anything from their Rage for Order album!
Asia and BJ, Geoff Tate learned from his Mom, who was an Opera Singer 😎🤘
No, no she wasn’t. His aunt was but he don’t learn from her. He studied voice.
Queensryche LIVE EVOLUTION. You need to hear him LIVE. Early 2000’s.
A&BJ = Outstanding Video - been awhile since I checked in - always great to hear what you all think of the songs - I am going back to check your other 2 Queensrÿche songs you did - if you get a chance there is a little song called NM156 off their 1st album - I'd love to hear it from you - (spoiler) it's about the rise of computers written in 1984 & coming true TODAY!!!
Yeahhhhh 😎
Vocal range's Tate in ANORMAL. He came from another Galaxy. Epic Song, that is part of MASTERPIECE in the history of hard rock. It's a shame that musicians like De Garmo or Geoff Tate were not in Queensryche anymore. They were really very good alive and sounded even better than in studio albums..
You're both great, glad you reacted to Queensryche but I much, much, much prefer Queensryche's other songs over this including: (1) Anybody Listening; (2) Another Rainy Night; (3) Silent Lucidity; and (4)Jet City Woman over this by far. No disrespect, no worries, just my humble opinion about Queensryche. Keep doing what you're doing guys, you're awesome!
Operation Mindcrime is the story of a guy who is blamed for a murder. This is like Queensryche's 5th best song.
1) Last Time In Paris
2) I Don't Believe In Love
3) Open Your Eyes
4) Suite Sister Mary
5) Walk In the Shadows
....thanks for playing something from this great band, even the common everyday "hit"
Queensryche is probablly my favorite band of all-time. You can go to my page and see i have made 9 playlists to cover their careers in differant ways (crazy huh). Anyway as you probablly know after some of these comments, this song concludes a classic theme album. It's like the end of a rock opera story. But i am pretty sure the lyrics of this song are not only about the sad ending of Part One for the main character (they made an Op:Mindcrime II 18 years later when Niki is let out of prison). I believe these lyrics are based on King David's lyrics in Psalm 39
Straight jacket memories & sedative highs. Need to listen to the entire album. It’s dark but fantastic! Unfortunately it’s much of the same 40 years later.
Not the typical 80s hard rock/ metal band...dramatic! Now, carrying on without that voice..Geoff Tate. Great stuff!
This song is part of the Operation Mindcrime album, a concept/visual album that is one long story. This one is an introspective on Nikki's character (the main character of the story) that provides the climax for the Mindcrime story. Basically, Nikki is looking into a mirror, and realizing that he doesn't recognize the person he's become.
The ultimate depths of depression, leaving Nikki broken and utterly alone. And it ends, of course, with an audio montage of the entire album.
Yeah - like others have said, it's hard to get the full context of what Nikki (the main character in the album) is talking about if you're just listening to one song. I''d love to see a reaction to the entire album. It's worth a listen from front to back - an absolute masterpiece. (BTW, Geoff Tate, the lead singer, was a classically trained [opera] vocalist before setting out with Queensryche.)
As a bunch of others have mentioned here. This is a concept album, and to really appreciate it you have to listen to it from beginning to end.It tells a story of drug addiction, intrigue and the hypocrisy and corruption of politicians and religious leaders. The amazing thing is nearly 40 years after it's release...it's more relevant now than EVER ! And in my opinion ( and a lot of Who, Pink Floyd & Iron Maiden fans would disagree ) it's the greatest concept album of all time ! My theory on music is this...good songs make you do one of three things make you move, make you feel or make you think. This entire album makes you do all three ! It's the "Mona Lisa" of Metal concept albums !
@3:22 yes BJ has it right - he didn't recognize himself - as he saw shame and disgust of thing(s) he had done.
This entire album is magnificent! Not a bad song on it. IMO their best album by far! Though there are some great gems on Empire. Like others have said - this is one song of a story in a concept album. Just what he did is part of the bigger story throughout the album.
Early on the lyrics say:
ll alone now, except for the memories
Of what we had and what we knew
Every time I try to leave it behind me
I see something that reminds me of you
Every night the dreams return to haunt me
So he got some baggage and his image reflection doesn't lie when you see yourself from the outside....
May I suggest swapping your left to right mic inputs. It's eerie looking at BJ on (viewer's) right side to hear his voice in the left ear, and vice-versus. I know from your sitting position it's correct, but we're watching you like a mirror would see so it's reversed to us.
You’ll be surprised to find out that the singer studied opera !!! And this album is one whole story from the first song 🎶 to the last!!! Now if u would like to hear how far his voice can go , go listen to “ Take Hold Of The Flame “ live 1984 !!!!
Operation Mindcrime may be the best concept album ever or close second to The Wall by Pink Floyd. But definitely listen from the beginning. This song was the finale but not necessarily the best song on the album. If you want to react to individual unconnected songs, try Take Hold of the Flame or also Silent Lucidity or Empire. Great reaction!
You guys should check out a great metal band from Japan. Their name is Lovebites and their new album is judgement Day. They have videos for Judgement Day and Stand and Deliver (Shoot Them Down). These ladies are insane and their guitar solos are 2nd to none. I like watching your reactions and I have a feeling you won't be disappointed.
You guys should watch the actual music video. It's a cool video & this is my favorite song from them & Asia you are correct,he is talking about something else, but you have to watch the music video, look for the official music video by them,it will have the word VEVO down in the corner & watch it & I've seen them in concert twice & they are great
Always said, if I knew I wouldn't be able to ever listen to music again. Operation Mind Crime would be the last album I would listen to till I couldn't anymore!
I remember when this band opened for Metallica. My friends and I hated them, thought they were soft. We booed them. After I actually listened to the music, I was hooked. I bought the CD's and played them in my camaro.
Not sure if you guys have reacted to these guys before, but I prefer songs from a different album: Jet City Woman, Empire, & Silent Lucidity - but this song is good as well.
Do you not recall another tune by queensryche you had reacted to called ‘Take Hold Of The Flame’? You had been equally impressed with THAT! Same singer and band
Allot metal guys couldn't touch Geoff singing Ore Chris guitar playing . The band was killer
Educate self on album and story line of what albums all about . It's make believe story that all linked in one after another
Just one song in a complete story, where every song is another part of the story - album called "Operation Mindcrime". A classic album - I highly recommend listening to the entire thing.
