    Looking forward to more on this build. There is definitely a lot of interest. It doesn't matter to me that it seems repetitive because it's all interesting to see all that's involved if someone is thinking of building one.Traditional paint scheme is the only way. VICTORY IN 2020!!!

    It looks nice so far!! Let's get excited to keep Victory ALIVE!!

    Your paint test-strip: Your yellow looks too yellow and your pink looks too pink. No wonder you’re undecided. I’d recommend looking up Admiralty Paints from JoTiKa - Caldercraft Nelson’s Navy. They’re formulated for these kits exclusively. Their ochre is on the yellow side, and I think you you could settle for them. They go on really well with a brush. Please consider.

    I feel your pain. The launch took me a weeks worth of video footage cut down to minutes. It greatly slows down the build when you are trying to work out what looks best on camera. I think going forward I will either leave the cam running and speed the footage up but that means lots of footage being stored on the PC until I am ready to edit or just breaking each section down. The Victory build now comes in Packs and is 120 stages. I am trying to keep 1 video per stage. It works okay for most stages but the Launch.....yer....I may have to rethink that. Building this beast was pretty much down to you sir. I was avidly watching you build it before I bit the bullet.

    I'm good with any colour you choose. Just remember that up to about 150 years ago pink was seen as masculine and blue feminine. Pink is on the warm spectrum with red and blue on the cool spectrum with green. I can't remember when or why it changed though. Up until then boys wore pink and girls blue. So if you think about what they would have done from today's sensibilities it wouldn't make sense, but the colour associations back then were different...
    I still don't like pink though, no matter that I know 😉

    No way the original Victory was pink! Sounds like diversity has hit the Victory museum too. What next? Rainbow Lancasters! Paint it the colour you know it from your childhood Bobby, otherwise you’ll hate looking at it when it’s done! Pink! Spare me!

  • @gvn8er

    I say stick with the yellow simply because you based your decision on the colors proposed with the kit issue.

    Bobby, any color that you choose would be great, but my heart goes to the ocher. I am really looking forward to watching you continuing the Victory build. Your expertise and striving for quality will show through whichever format you choose. When watching other people's videos, I have always said to myself "Yeah, but how would Bobby do it?".

    When I build my Heller 1/100 model it will be yellow-ochre. I don’t care if it’s historically accurate or not because in my own mind that’s what Victory looks like. I will never be going back in time to see the real ship during that time period so my own “vision” of her appearance will never be proven to be wrong by new discoveries.....

  • @littlebit8901
    @littlebit8901 4 года назад +2

    You know, maybe it was the Victory's secret weapon, painting it pink. The French and Spaniards were too busy laughing and not firing their cannons straight. LOL
    Edit: Btw.. Keep the Ochre color. just my opinion.

  • @granapriego
    @granapriego 4 года назад +2

    Your probably a long away from painting the hull. But HMS Victory has just been repainted to her original colours that are quite different shades to her Victorian colour scheme. And then you mention it lol. Tbh it looks more a light desert sand than pink? Try Vallejo Iraqi sand or panzer aces highlight desert British highlight?

    • @WorldofWayneUK

      That Vallejo colour looks bang on it.

  • @danta2er
    @danta2er 4 года назад +2

    It may not be a popular choice, but I think you should stay historically accurate. It seems more orange to me, not pink. I am glad you're resurrecting this project!

    Very happy to see this series return... I discovered this channel (a long time ago now!) because of this build! As you say, when I think Victory, I think yellow, not pink!

  • @slangster

    I would actually go for the original color; pink! It would make it more like «one of a kind» even it is how it originally were!

    Good to see the series back Bobby. I'm re getting this model and going to work through with the help of your videos. As for the colour change, I was shocked to find this out. I, however, will be sticking to yellow, that was the colour when I visited the Victory so its accurate in my mind.

    This is 2 years late, but right there on the Official Victory website they say the pink color came from a colorblind Ship's Carpenter made a Red/White mix instead of the proper Yellow/White mix (9 parts yellow, 100 parts White). Victory got the Pink stripes while in harbor waiting for Nelson, & it was Too late to repaint her because they had to put to sea ASAP. It also says the Carpenter was disrated for his screw up. I plan to paint mine Yellow & Black.

    True modellers get away from the plastic on occasion ! Build it !

  • @johnnyhollis9977

    Bobby, I had a ship model on the shelf of death for 18 years as I was not happy with the hull planking amongst other things! I then studied the thing for ages, invested in the right tools and stripped it back to the frame and started all over again! Confidence returned and now its a super detailed model coming along that looks pretty good. It's a nice diversion from the plastic. Having said that my stash includes 3 other large full wooden ship builds but next is the super detailed Trumpeter Titanic which is being converted into the RMS Olympic!
    Anyway just go with the flow and do the Victory when you feel good about it. Never ever feel that you have to do something, results are never that good and you will start to dislike the build. Keep up the good work when it suits you mate!

    Good to see this coming back! I have seen the Victory in three colours now. A really dark rusty orange from the 1920's, the yellow ochre and now the Elasto plast colour!
    Other model builders have stuck to the traditional ochre as we all identify her to be and grown up with. However the latest rendition is not actually that bad and changes with the light, be it sunny or dull. My own personal thought is always to go with realism when building an accurate quality model. My conclusion would be to go with what science has told us and avoid going with what paint was knocking around in the paint store at the time over the years! Use the force Bobby!! ; )

    Good to see you back Bob and thanks for the explanation of the situation. It is a massive build and quite understand the dilemma. Build diaries would be good with maybe the odd tutorial on various bits would be helpful. As for the colour of the ship, my humble opinion is stick with the black/ochre combination. They are the colours everyone associates with HMS Victory.

    Yes I am very glad you are back with the Victory build. Had wondered where it got to. Yes wooden ships are a hand full and very time consuming, but are well worth the time. Yellow Ocre has been the traditional color used throughout the years of boat building. So use it. The pinkish color may have been from weathering and salt from the Med where she spent most of her time. Colors do change over the years as we all know. Thanks for the update and good work. Keep on!

  • @freezatron

    Yellow ochre..... definitely !!!
    The whole point of building a model is for it to look good !! ..... pink would look awful !
    ..... and changing colour now is just more work for you, life is too short ! :)
