A two-day, late fall ride (November, 2022) on the York Heritage Trail and Torrey C Brown Rail Trail (they are built on what was once the Northern Central Railroad from Baltimore, MD to Sunbury, PA). The full trip was about 90 miles and is relatively flat with a slight grade pointing to New Freedom from both sides. Part of the Torrey C Brown Rail Trail is on the East Coast Greenway starting in Monkton.
    Happy (belated) Thanksgiving, everybody.

Sitting here waiting for meniscus surgery yearning to be on the bike. That may be my first adventure in the spring after recuperating. Thanks for sharing. Love those rail trails with the little towns and history.

Thanks Bryan... I enjoyed it. The history intro of York was very interesting. I like when videos offer that... it really makes a big difference and is so inviting.
I liked your video settings on day two more than on day one. The contrast seemed a bit too much on the first day.
It reminded me of when my Dad used Ektachrome film in his camera back in the late 50's. The sky's were more of an azure blue and the earth tones were much redder.
I noticed the same thing on day one. I know you experiment with settings from your prior comments. So I'm giving you my feedback for your reference.
This was a great example of beautiful winter riding. The Pennsylvania area has this kind of lighting in winter... it seems rather distinctive. It's brighter, clearer, and more enduring to my impression. It extends into the Delaware, Maryland, Virgina, and even West Virginia areas based upon my prior experience. I can't account for why that is.
Did you get your rim replaced? If a spoke gets lose, because it wasn't properly snugged, it will wear out like that. Especially on the kind of rims you are running on your bike.
I liked this ride allot as well...
    Gord

Dude, I absolutely count on your comments. You’ve been the chief motivator for me to improve video quality! Thank you for your suggestions. I really appreciate it.
Yeah, I also noticed the difference between the days and yet the color correction and grading were the same. Time of day was the obvious difference…morning vs afternoon. I used a “pro” LUT designed for GoPro footage (set at 60%). Definitely made the blues and greens pop more. I kept scaling it back because it was just too wild at 100%.
I absolutely agree on the winter riding lighting in this area. Bright. Clear. Crisp. I’m hoping for a mild winter. I’m taking some extended vacation over the holidays and hope to get some longer rides in.
Thanks again for the feedback. If you were game, on future videos, I’d like to send some pre-release edits for your thoughts. Drop me an email if you’re interested. bryanwehmeyer@ridealongadventures.com

@@RideAlongAdventures Thanks for your blessings this holiday season, Bryan. Same to you as well. I'll send you an email so that you have mine for future reference.
Yes, the later afternoon light on the first day was lower for sure. The LUT you were using was set a bit too heavy in my opinion. The same setting for the second day worked well though.
That means using these digital filters changes dramatically with the relative ambient lighting. I understand why you used it.
After the greens and other colors are gone on the landscape, all that is left is very bland tans and browns. You definitely need something to pick up the visual experience.
Finding the right grading is definitely the key. Most people who use LUTs only want a bit of grading. But picking up the whole landscape is much of what your offering.
There is a point where it crosses over and the sceen starts looking a bit alien. They actually did that in the old sci-fi movies by going out into the desert and then using odd filters on their cameras to make it look off-planet.
Same thing with the old westerns with cineamagic filters that made things look like they were made of cinnamon and gingerbread.
      Gord

The number 38 on that post is the number of miles to Baltimore. There's a number on the other side of that post, and that's the number of miles north to Sunybury, PA. At this sign, that number would be 100 because it's 138 miles from Baltimore to Sunybury. So going south, the train conductor would see the number of miles to Baltimore, and going north he'd see the number of miles to Sunybury.

"on my trainer in the basement" - exactly where I was watching this video! Thanks for getting me out and on a bike, at least mentally. How do you find these little gems of trails? I was familiar with GAP, C&O, Pine Creek - but not York!

Good question. I think I heard of this one through Facebook (which I don’t use anymore) The crazy thing is how many of these little 40-50 mile trails are out there. The big trails get press (GAP, Katy, Erie). Doing an overnight is so much easier at this point in life. Glad you enjoyed it-I appreciate hearing that you rode it on your trainer. That was the whole intent of this channel!!! 😉 help us survive the cold winter months.

Try TrailLink. They are associated with the Rails to Trails Conservancy. The site has thousands of trails for a total of 40 K miles, all listed by name & state. My adopted state of Florida has 199 of them, and I have probably only hit 30% of them.
Pennsylvania alone has 292 of them, and each entry includes a photo gallery, nearby services, multiple reviews, a detailed description, any available history, the locations of trailheads, and a map. You will need a FREE membership to see the map for any particular trail for more than 10 seconds, but the rest of each trails entry is readily available without it. Also, if you want more, like GPS downloads, you need an annual subscription. I have used this data since 1995, back when they were publishing it in books that you had to buy, and yep, I have 5 of them. The website's interface is a bit clunky, but workable. Register for free membership and give it a try, I am 99.99% sure you will not regret it. Also, on the premise that nothing is every truly for free, I am also 99% sure the ''free' membership will result in your e-mail address being shared. If you have a spam-trap email address set up, you may want to use that.
I have been on hundred of these trails. For instance, next week I am driving from Tampa FL to Starkville MS to stay with close family for the holidays. I plan to take my time, and have allocated 3 days to get there. Each day I will be hitting a trail I haven't yet been on, and camping at a new location. In MS, I will try the nearby Tanglefoot, and maybe a short bit of the Natchez Trace. On the way back after the holidays, I plan on hitting a favorite trail, that, like this one, crosses state lines from Alabama into Georgia, West of Atlanta. All but one of these trails, I saw in TrailLink.

I have wanted to ride the York Heritage / Torrey C Brown Trails ride for years, so thank you for sharing Bryan. I especially enjoyed the gnomes.
If you need a break from the Midwinter Blues and make your way down here to Florida's West Coast, I know of a nearby park in a flatwoods forest on the Sun Coast. Except for the first 1/4 mile thru my community, the entire 25 mile way to this park is all paved trails rail trails. The trail is nice, I ought to know, as I maintain a section of it. There are state forests north and south, and all three are full of mild off-road dirt trails, suitable for a MTB, gravel bike, or touring bike with fatter tires. Even better there is both developed & primitive camping at the park, a direct connection to the Florida Coast to Coast trail I showed you last month, and as a bonus prize, a small hidden village of funny little gnomes waiting to mob the unwary travelers.

@@RideAlongAdventures Yeah, one of the best parts of living here is year round riding. Kayaking too. But when I see some of the trails you are riding further North, it reminds me of how nicely diverse & scenic some of those areas are. I'm visiting family in Mississippi over the holidays, so if the good weather continues to hold, I will ride a few days on the Natchez Trace. While it's not strictly a bike trail, I have heard nothing but good from people who have biked it.
