    I have some questions. Is the bike path behind Rabbit Road open for use? Are restrooms along the way open, like at Lighthouse Beach, Tarpon Bay Road Beach parking lot, Gulfside City Park, and Ding Darling's visitor center as well as the restrooms along the Ding Darling Road at the halfway point? These are my important "pit stops" and need to know if they are there for me as I am hoping to return there soon. ... Sanibel was my "happy place" for decades. I was there vacationing from SE Florida a few days before Ian hit. I evacuated myself to drive home late at night, on a spur of the moment decision, before the official evacuation, crying as I crossed the bridge, seeing the lighthouse blink in the distance, knowing I would not be back for awhile. I think the island has come a very long way in a short time, although much still to do. Thank you for this video!

      The rabbit road path was open when I was there. I believe the Lighthouse Beach area has reopened although I can’t speak to the bathrooms. The lighthouse is being refurbished currently. All of the restrooms were closed in January except for the Ding Darling visitor center which I used. However, that was January. A lot has changed since then. This website seems to indicate that a lot more is open now: www.mysanibel.com/government/public-works/useful-links/beach-parks/facilities-currently-closed

    I just completed the C2C trail on Tuesday of this week. I want to thank you for your videos. I made a wrong turn or two during the trip which is normal for me. This trail has everything from urban to rural and in between. The green swamp was very scenic and the sugar sand wasn't too bad. I went straight through to Trilby. Maybe, next time I will go visit the Richloam store.

      that's awesome! good for you. Glad you got to see the swamp area as well. I really loved that part. Yeah, a few people told me that I should have kept going at the general store and I would have avoided the construction prior to Trilby. In my humble opinion, "a wrong turn or two" is what makes bike adventures memorable. :) Again, congrats on the ride.

      Ok, first of all, “umpteenth” is one of the greatest vocabulary words ever. I’m gonna use it in my next video and only you’ll know why. I’ve tried a lot of different shoes. Old running shoes. Lightweight “flats”, 0 rise types. And biking shoes with and without clips. Sandals. Etc. I finally arrived at those Merrill Moab hiking shoes about a year or so ago. They are heavy duty but still fairly lightweight. I still carry a pair of super lightweight slip-ons in my bags for going to a restaurant or sitting around the campfire and I don’t want my Merrills on. I haven’t quite found the perfect shoe yet. But the Moab’s have held up really well. They can take a beating.

    Great video. I just moved to Daytona and I’ve ridden from the Edgewater (NSB) trailhead and about halfway to Titusville. What route did you take from Sanford to the West Orange Trail? I’ve ridden many miles on the WOT, from Apopka to Groveland, but never found a good route to Sanford.

    • @RideAlongAdventures
      @RideAlongAdventures 17 дней назад

      Yeah, that’s a gap that I don’t really understand. Doesn’t seem like there are any natural areas to expand the trail. And the roads were pretty busy. But all in all, it’s short relative to the rest of the trail.

    Bryan, another awesome video (as usual). Which Brooks saddle did you get? Still have it? How long did it take to break in? I don't have a problem with the stock saddle on my Trek bike but you never know how much more comfortable a saddle can be until you try one. Thinking about switching this summer. Looking forward to your next trip. Always a pleasure watching your vids.

      @RideAlongAdventures 19 дней назад

      Thank you. I appreciate the kind words. I’ve got a standard B-17 and I still love it. It took about 300 or so miles to break in and it’s incredibly comfortable. If you go with one, follow the instructions on conditioning it. I use mink oil every time I wash the bike-both sides (underneath as well). It protects against sweat and rain while riding. I keep a cover if it’s going to be sitting out in weather. All in all, it really did the trick for me. Knock on wood: no saddle sores in almost two years.

    Hey Brian, love your videos! Question for you. Let’s say you’ve never done RAGBRAI and you’ve never completed the Katy trail. You have a week off in July scheduled for a weeklong bike tour. Do you ride RAGBRAI or do you ride the Katy Trail? I’m in this very predicament. I’m not going to lie, the tranquil peacefulness of the Katy Trail and lack of crowds sound appealing, but at the same time the bucket list factor and the experience of RAGBRAI are also attractive. WWBD? (What would Brian Do)

    • @RideAlongAdventures
      @RideAlongAdventures 19 дней назад

      Wow...that's a helluva question. I'm not sure how to approach it. This might be a year when RAGBRAI attendance is less than average. Maybe. There seemed to be a lot of vocal discontent last year over the crowds. I think you clearly get the difference. RAGBRAI is loud, chaotic, crazy at times but a great chance to meet a lot of like minded cyclists, see a beautiful state and meet some of the most friendly people you'll ever meet (Iowa Nice). The Katy is beautiful, quiet, scenic...also populated with super nice people--just not in crowds like Iowa. I guess the good news is that neither is going anywhere so you could probably do the other one the next time you get a week off. This year's RAGBRAI is supposed to be one of the most hilly and statistically speaking it will be HOT and/or raining. You get to dictate your day on the Katy. I don't know. I enjoyed them both. I'm skipping RAGBRAI this year because there are so many other trails waiting to be ridden.

      lol. Both are 5 stars. Their American Lager is in my top 5 beers worldwide. Everything a Cincinnati beer should be. Take a classic German lager then drop a cigar (still lit and half smoked) and a cooked Brat in it. Having grown up there, the little Miami bike trail still amazes me. Someone did the impossible. There were so many people opposed to it. Now, it’s this beautiful destination. Amazing.

    Bryan, enjoying your videos. I’m returning to biking after a 20-year hiatus so looking for inspiration. I can identify with your frustration with the Insta360. I owned that one with, as you, great ideas for using it but then was frustrated by the difficulty of viewing resulting videos. I sold it. However, I later purchased the Insta360 One X2 with similar plans. It lay in a box. But when I recently purchased an e-bike and started cycling again, I finally found a use for it! I never got into the GoPro, so my 360 is now my go-to bike camera. Granted, I’m only using it as “video everything” camera and selecting 16:9 video views, but I love the flexibility with just one camera. The other place we agree is with drones. I have one…in a case. I really should sell it, but won’t because (a) I wouldn’t get much and (b) I might just try it with biking. No problem where I live (Lynchburg, VA) because “Joe” doesn’t come here. 😀

    • @RideAlongAdventures
      @RideAlongAdventures 21 день назад

      The Insta360 line has excellent quality. I recently discovered how to edit the footage directly in Final Cut Pro so I hope to use it more often. Hey, if you’re thinking of selling a drone, let me know. If it’s a recent model, I may be interested. bryan@ridealongadventures.com Anyway, thanks for watching Bill. Great video. Thanks. A couple of comments regarding cycling shorts: First, some cycling shorts are designed for competitive cyclists and are likely to be uncomfortable for average riders, especially on longer rides. Look for shorts that advertise "all-day comfort". Some companies (e.g. RedWhite and Stolen Goat) actually state which of their products are intended for longer rides. Second, and I know this is a sensitive topic, cycling shorts are designed to be worn without underwear. Wearing underwear beneath your bike shorts just gives you another source of chaffing. I personally like bib shorts because the bib straps help to keep the shorts in place. If you don't like the spandex look, put a pair of shorts on over your cycling shorts. Mountain bikers do this all the time.

    • @RideAlongAdventures
      @RideAlongAdventures 23 дня назад

      Good tips. Especially the no underwear “rule”. It’s funny how that is sort of taken for granted. 😊
