    If physics 1 has the highest fail rate, I can’t even imagine the horrors of the sequel: physics 2

    • @avamiller1200
      @avamiller1200 3 года назад +1685

      Lower actually. Many types of students take physics 1, but physics 2 is calculus based and only required for engineering and physics majors, so even if it's harder; smarter people are taking it, so a bigger percent of those take it are already inclined to do well in physics, so it has a higher pass rate

      physics 2 is still algebra based, but covers topics not covered in ap physics 1, like fluid dynamics and electrostatics. Physics C: E&M is the calculus based course, which is usually only taken by those who have a knack for physics

    I’d just like to point out that this doesn’t necessary make these classes the most difficult. Often it’s just that these classes tend to be taken by people that aren’t prepared. That’s why calc AB has a higher fail rate than BC - you have to be a special kind of crazy to take BC.

    • @somerandomguy5707

    • @hammurabitheawesome674
      @hammurabitheawesome674 3 года назад +232

      BC is not that bad but you are right about unprepared people. A ton of people who I know aren't the greatest students and haven't taken APs before are now taking AP Gov because it's advertised as an easy semester AP class, and I am confident that those same people will contribute to that fail percentage because they are just not used to AP tests.

    • @hammurabitheawesome674
      @hammurabitheawesome674 3 года назад +36

      @@commanderv23 Honestly hard to say because it definitely depends on the person. Math was always pretty easy to me so BC is not an issue even though I can see how some parts can absolutely destroy some people. AP Chemistry for me is a way harder exam just because I can't grasp the concepts easily, even though others have said it's simple. Pretty much any AP History test is painful for me because I hate memorizing all the vocab, events, and essay formats, but again people who are good at that might have no issues.
      So if you want my answer then I'll probably say AP Chemistry because even though some parts made sense to me, others I just couldn't understand. Also I feel like many other classes including BC build up concepts over time, while all 9 Chemistry units are drastically different and many of them have zero correlation with the other units, so you're having to remember a lot of information without being able to tie it all together nicely.

    “Well this is a little unfortunate”
    Edit:
    OK UPDATE. So I finished the course; it was only a semester long. I still have to take the AP exam, and I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it. Honestly I really enjoyed the course halfway through it, it’s just that the fundamentals, like court cases, amendments and all; I don’t think it was taught to clearly, but by the end of the semester, I understood it all. Way better than in the beginning of the year at least. So much so that I was even able to get a 100 on the final, which for me, I was pretty happy about. What sucks though, is that after all that, I averaged a final score of 89.36%. Literally off by only 0.16%. Even my teacher when he added the score in was like, “ooooohhhh, that’s not good, that’s really not good.” Off by THAT much. Despite that, If you want to take the course, I’d highly recommend it. It really does explain a lot about the political system, and the amount of meta about the course is hilarious.

      I took it last year, and tbh it is NOT worth it to take the test. Unless you’re really interested in the subject or you know it’ll be important for the major you want to go into, do not spend a hundred dollars to take that test. I go to a UC for college, and they’re super generous with ap credits, but my gov test was basically useless. I got a 3 on the test, which would’ve gotten me out of one social science GE, but since I already had a 4 on APUSH I already had all the social science credit I needed. It was a waste of money and a waste of time, in my experience at least. I know several of my classmates took the class but not the test and they seem to be doing perfectly fine without it.

I pretty much just spent a week watching and taking notes on every AP lit video I could find and took a bunch of practice exams. Since I was short on study time, for the essays I looked at the past prompts and thought about what evidence I’d use (I thought about the first two essays as if they were AP history essays), and for the third essay my strategy was to try and fit 1984 into the prompt somehow, because that was the only book my class read that I understood (I was not about to use Hamlet). I’m much better at typing than writing, so getting to write the essays with a keyboard made it much easier for me as well.

    As a student who has taken both AP Physics 1 and AP Physics 2, AP Physics 1 is definitely harder since the biggest hurdle is in the beginning when you have to change the way that you think. You have to learn how to analyze and use abstraction to solve problems to a degree that most students haven’t encountered. The principles are easy, the application is hard, and your worst enemy are your preconceived notions of how the world works. However, when enter AP Physics 2, you already have taken AP Physics 1 and have already cemented the mindset you need making the transition much easier.

      That adds up for all the exams listed except Physics 1, because most students take Honors Physics -> Physics C instead. That makes the pool of Physics 1 kids comparatively small.
      Also, that exam was some bullshit. CollegeBoard doesn’t even provide all the formulas you need to solve some of those problems. I was trying my damndest to remember the formula for rotational acceleration the entire time. The Free Response wasn’t actually terrible, but the MCQ killed my entire class this year.
      I’ve made 5’s on all my exams so far, and with pretty much a guaranteed 5 in Calc BC and really solid tests in both APUSH and AP Lang, Physics 1 was 100% the hardest AP exam I’ve ever taken. That test sucks ass.
