    I remember when I first started, I was doing tourist missions in an unengineered Dolphin and accepted one with a huge paycheck to a site called "Amazing Sky". Turns out, the paycheck was huge because it was most of the way to Colonia, which I didn't even know was a thing back then. I didn't know about the Neutron Highway, didn't know about AFMUs, didn't know much really. I completed that mission successfully with a ship that had about a 22LY jump range. Knowing what I know now, I do NOT understand how I survived.
    Also, I have terminal space-madness.

    • @tietosanakirja
      @tietosanakirja 4 года назад +1

      This basically happened to mee too, though it was just data I was carrying.
      I changed ships *twice* on the way, bought an AFMU and made my first neutron jump half way to Colonia. It took me one *week* to make the entire trip.
      I've since then done the trip two more times, each time just about halving the travel time.
      I started playing about the time Jingles made his return to ED. So while Jingles has tried abit of everyting, I've kind of just travelled back and forth.

    The extremely high star density near the core is pretty much the reason ive warned you from using those settings on a trip to colonia. :p
    Theres just so many stars that the engine literally chokes itself to death... (That and for some reason the engine totally dosent seem to like Colonias nebula in general)
    You might want to keep the higher res textures for the skybox and planets tho, they dont affect performance in any meaningful way but give you a much crisper image.

    • @wes2129
      @wes2129 4 года назад +2

      @Jojo46548 4 года назад

      would like to know too

    • @CptMooney
      @CptMooney 4 года назад +1

      @@wes2129 The game can render them at a higher resolution allready, all you gotta do is modify the XML that stores your presets.
      Look up your "GraphicsConfiguration.xml" or "GraphicsConfigurationOverride.xml" and change the values for "TextureSize" in the "GalaxyBackground"
      and "Planets" section respectively. You can go to 4k for the skybox and 8k textures for planets without noticable performance impact.
      The game gives you a nice amount of control there, you can increase the number of stars, brightness of the galaxy disc and nebulae etc.
      Even Ultra settings seem to be aimed at grafics cards with 2gb of vram, which is a little on the low side in 2020.
      Be warned about Colonia tho, even at stock settings the game takes quite some time to render the skybox when you change systems over there.
      Essentially, the witchspace animation is but a cleverly disguised loading screen, during wich the engine is composing the skybox image, according
      to what celestial objects are within a defined range. The more stuff its rendering the longer it takes, obviously.
      You can alter the number of stars, nebulae etc that will be part of the render, which in case of Colonia can spiral out of control rather rapidly.

    • @CptMooney
      @CptMooney 4 года назад +2

      After seeing the footage from this vid ive reverted the color and brightness settings back to stock (those were based on community recommendations, and even
      tho ive allready cut them in half its still been too much for my taste), and put up a copy for download:
      www.dropbox.com/s/4px14w75jfmzmqb/GraphicsConfigurationOverride.xml?dl=0
      Just replace the allready existing override file with this one, which has the benefit of not getting overwritten with every patch as opposed to altering the base config.
      These changes only apply to the highest grafics preset available, either Ultra or High, and if you expirience slowdowns in certain scenarios just pick a preset one step
      below the highest one the game offers you in the settings menue.
      Feel free to tinker with galaxy/nebula size and brightness values, it can yield quite cineastic results in the right part of the galaxy.

      Oh Be A Fine Girl/Guy Kiss Me is what I use the most too, as, as you said, puts them in the order of hottest to coldest. But what that hurting me the most to watch is Jingles not turning off non necessary systems to put the fuel burn down and saving fuel that way. His 2,07 fuel burn rate will come back and bite his rear at some point. No matter how much fuel he had packed with (Which also decreases the jump range slightly) it will gonna bite him at some point. What there uses the most fuel beside the thrusters is the shield generator. But also the smaller things, like sensor, power distributor, plantery hangar and so on. In my diamondback explore, Im able to put my fuel burn rate down to 1,23 while in supercruise with a top rate powerplant that I can put in it. And that is with only thrusters, FSD and life support as running on the power. Even if I turn on sensor, it will add a 0,01 ton to the burn rate.

    The neutron star highway can be great but is exceedingly dangerous. I ran into a neutron star where the exclusion zone around it went almost all the way out to the end of the blue cones. I thought I could still get into the tips of the blue cones to supercharge my ship and go, but the moment I entered the very tip of the cone, it tumbled my ship into the exclusion zone, forcing me out of super-cruse, immediately knocking every system in my ship offline (including engines) and inevitably destroying my ship.

Watching the view of the galaxy change as you move around the galaxy is one of the coolest things - enjoy the core where the stars dot the whole of the sky! If you ever go to the edge of the galaxy looking out it literally is just black - no light at all and you really feel like you're out on a limb in the middle of nothing! Have a good trip Jingles! I flew to colonia once. I had about 45 mil at the time, and spent a few of it to purchase a diamondback explorer. Real cheap ship. I bought modules (no engineering) and outfitted for jump distance and fuel efficiency, with a fuel scoop and two field repair units. I flew in a private session because screw public. I used a route planner to take a neutron highway and proceeded to fly for about two or three hours a day for three days. I saw things most people never get to see. I experienced so much crazy in terms of super hyperactive neutron stars. I saw night skies that are beyond the wildest dreams of even the most primitive humans without so much as two campfires to pollute it. I made it to colonia. I ran some missions. I even bought a Krait Mk II and fell in love with the ship. Made a few million in exploration data. My name is on about fifteen entire systems out there along the route, mostly the ones I stopped to scoop fuel from along the way. Ran some missions out there, had fun, missed the hustle and bustle of the bubble and stations with good services, and my other ships. Colonia is great to visit, but there's so little there and the pirates are BAD. So I bought a sidewinder, hit the self-destruct button outside the station mass-lock and respawned in my ORIGINAL home system. Worked my way rapidly through several small ships until I made it back to my home station where all of my ships were. Ended up remote selling the krait and diamondback because it would have been hundreds of millions to get them home otherwise, and I didn't feel like doing that. Ah, good times.

    No Jingles! You did it the Neutron star jump way, some of us did it before that was a thing. And myself, I did it in a Dolphin, 33 light years at a time. Over 890 jumps to get there. Then 450 jumps to go to SAG A, and...... then over 1000 jumps back too Founders' world. And even then was still 28% short of exploration Elite status. Oh yeah and the last 175 jumps were without a canopy. Several times i had to land to get synth materials to recharge the O2 on board.
    Second striping to bare minimums is not how anyone would prepare to go to Colonia in the first place! And even then anyone who did has less than 25 hours of sense ingame..... But just because you make your ship to the highest jump capacity there are sliders in the nav that allow you to set a max jump range so you can have a 84ly jump capable ship and limit it to half that with but a slider.

Now looking to hit all 20 stops on the way out (I now know also there's a couple of systems with two stops), might also try and find Jaques Station if near by. This is so that said squadrons can send their regards to the cat callers in the form of several thousand multicannon slugs.
    Edit to add: The Fuel Rats do not participate in these counter-cat-calls by organizing them or leaking information about cats. The Fuel Rats are true E:D neutrals. The above noted cat hunter squadrons are just people who tend to take the concept of "sacred altruism" very, very seriously.
