Have a look into 'Guardian FSD Boosters'. It seems a bit grindy but worth it for exploration/long range ships, especially if you want an Asp Explorer with a 70Ly jump range or an Anaconda with an 80Ly jump range.
Oh my Jingles!...... stunning bit of story telling and gameplay tutoring there. If I hadnt already got 3500+ hours in ED then I'd be straight down to the Steam Store with a wad of cash burning a hole in ,y pocket.
It's always fun to watch people find their feet in a game this complex, even if there are times I want to write a pages-long tirade in the comments about how HE'S DOING IT ALL WRONG.
Just as a tip: The best things to get on most modules for an exploration ship are lightweight, heat efficient, or low power, and you definitely do not want an armored power plant since that weighs more and will reduce your jump range. Coriolis or EDSY (Elite Dangerous Shipyard) are great places to tinker and plan out builds so you can optimize your ships!
I'd like to thank Jingles for getting me hooked on this (like many other games before) and to the kind gentleman who advised me two weeks ago to wait. Saved me 60 AUD. Thank you Sir very much. Happily hopping about being a courier in my little Sidwinder saving up to not only buy a better ship but also being able to buy that ship with the cash to upgrade it AND pay for the insurance. Thank you Jingles for showing me what not to do because you have also got me hooked on the Gutymaya fleet of ships . An Imperial Courier is what I am aiming for, although the Imperial Eagle might not be a bad replacement for my Sidewinder once I can finally get into Imperial space.
@@trimat2016 Nah, I've wasted 17 years of my life on Eve Online, which makes Elite Dangerous pale in comparison when it comes to the learning curve and the grind. Been in Elite maybe two weeks, have exploration maxxed out D scanning and FSS every system listening to music, and trading is maxxed making big hauls for extra cash, not even remotely interested in mining or combat, having fun and there's really no grind at all for me. The "get rich quick" method is fine if you want to reach the Anaconda and then be bored to death in three days, but I have an IQ higher than room temperature, so...it is what it is.
@David Whitfield Just get to the Cobra MKIII and you can do just about anything in it, great ship and doesn't cost as much. No shame using it either, it's a favorite for many players.

Been playing ACO for over a 1000 hours now (nothing compared to Total War Warhammer II but that's another story) and frankly I just couldn't squeeze much more out of it other than starting again. Witcher III I've played through twice completely and VTMB I play at least once a year but I needed something new to escape and this has met the ticket (especially at this price). @@HorizonsleatherBlogspot2012 Strangely enough I've been happy with the stock Sidewinder at the moment and saving my credits for an Imperial Eagle. Yes its short ranged and I am having the devil of a time getting to Imperial space but I will get there and I'm having fun while doing it. I do agree the Cobra III is the logical choice and I could now buy it stock but after watching "Our Lord and Master of the Salt Mines" loose two expensive ships right out of the gate I'm happy to keep hoping as a lowly courier in a Sidewinder. No one bothers me (although I do get scanned a lot) but it feels more realistic to grind at the moment. Only 10 hours in and I could buy the Cobra and that's just doing courier missions. But thank you for the advice. Much appreciated.

If you go to her and sell a ton of exploration data it gives you rep too, I sold 8mil ish of data at the station and she offered me all the way to level 5 right off the bat :) oh and Jingles, I brought this game recently because of you! cheers mate
@@KasumiWyvern Do you know how I figured that one out? I tried using t second fire group on my SRV.... as it turns out, that is bound to target lock by default, so no secondary fire groups can be used. Not like it matters, you will be using target lock much more often anyway.
untrue, engineered every ship I have over 3 accounts and it is never 6 max for everyone. as the others have said it can "sometimes" take up to around 10 even with g5 access to the engineer
Hi Jingles, the amount of mats you can carry depends on its grade. G1 = 300 pieces, G2 = 250, G3 = 200, G4 = 150, and G5 = 100 units. You can also trade them at Material traders (3 kinds, just like the mats). Uptrading costs you 6 pieces for 1 piece for 1 lvl upgrade (so you can get 1 G5 material for 6^4 G1 materials in the same line). Trading out of a line (among different groups) is even less profitable. Downtrading gives you 3 units of 1 lvl lower mats (so for a single piece of G5 mat you get 3^4 G1 materials, which is 81 - not a bad way to get lower grades by farming only the higher ones).
Your videos are informative and very entertaining, I just installed this game on my xbox a few weeks ago, after searching for a space exploration game. There is a lot to learn to do anything, and the tutorials...well lets just say, not much help. In fact I finally just figured out how to filter out stars after ending up in a brown dwarf dead zone and nearly running out of fuel trying to cross over into another arm of the galaxy. In my hubris, after unlocking grade 4 frameshift upgrades with Farseer I had the brilliant idea to go exploring. Yeah I made it about halfway and discovered 11 systems before I ended up with half a tank of fuel and zero fuel stars anywhere within range and I wasn't sure I had enough to reach the last star I fueled at. I made it barely. Needless to say my little asp explorer is hightailing it back to the bubble. Before this I visited the same Thargoid barnacle site, upon first landing, before I knew how to screenshot or video, I had just gotten in my scarab and I saw an alert for unknown frameshift anomaly, didn't think much of it until I heard it and the entire barnacle field light up bright as day and my systems went dead. As I was sitting there trying to figure out wtf, a thargoid ship started recharging itself over the barnacles... I had my own brown alert helpless in a dead scarab... thankfully my systems came back and it left but what a sight!
So, watched you play, thought I'd have some of that. Watched some newie beginners guides, decided mining low temperature diamonds was the way to get rich quick. Upgraded to an Adder, set up for mining and set off the day that the Carrier update was introduced. Oh well, nevermind! There is soooo much to learn. Thanks Jingles
That last bit with the jump going wrong reminds me of the first time I encountered a Thargoid Interceptor... I barely made it out alive. 10/10 would get intercepted again.
Idk if I've said it before but thanks for enjoying elite, I a trucker who spends my work days going from a to b liked elite right up till I felt like it was work to play cheers.
Jingles, highly recommended if you do future engineering. The East India Company player groups sells (or, as recently, gives it away) the commodities to unlock engineers, removing much grind. Just google the name, they're easy to find.
Ahhhh, yes. That first encounter with an engineer and the fun bit of engineering the first few ranks. And gaining access to all that guardian tech was really fun. And creating a fleet of combat, mining, exploration, trading, and cargo and passenger smuggling ships was fun too. And the countless hours planning how to engineer said fleet was very entertaining. Thargoids as well. Grinding federation rank, back and forth from Boran was a bit tedious, but I did make it to Sol and Vega. Yes that was fun, mostly. But then I came across the awfulness that is gathering high tier manufactured components from high grade emissions.... Yeah, that's basically what killed it for me. And life is too short for the Corvette and Cutter grinds...... Ah, and then fleet carriers "came out" and the intentions of the management team for the future of the game were made clear......
Sounds like you just burned yourself out. I say this as someone who ran i to this issue. I did passenger runs that took 40min each but landed around 200mil each time. I earned my first billion doing that. I got fed and empire rank to unlock vette and cutter, bought all the ships did guardian grind for modules and fighters. Then I couldn't bring myself to finish unlocking all engineering or do another gold rush because my credits were down to 200mil. I stopped playing for a year and a half. The break is good because the game is fun again. My point is take a break play something else and then dip your toe back into elite.
This game is more rewarding if you find out stuff for yourself. I could have looked up where to find meta alloys, but used the codex which is at least in game, and it was just much more satisfying and also great game play when I flew down to a major thargoid sight for the first time. Very spooky. Also you can trade all the mats (for other mats) at stations.
Jingles, you really need to try the Krait if you get the chance. The Krait Phantom for exploring and the Krait Mk. II for everything else. The Krait Mk. II can equip a fighter bay and even has a coffee maker in the back. Seriously, there's a coffee maker in the back. 😂
Dammit Jingles, I’ve only really dipped my toe into engineers, I’ve got level 4 access with Felicity but that’s it. I now really want to focus on unlocking more, but I’m 7.5Kly away from home exploring the nebulae in the Sanguineous Rim and Elysian shore, and I’ve got 4 more to do.
Christ that ending. Imagine the terror of cruising along in Hyperspace where you KNOW no ship can touch you... Then you get pulled out of it by an Alien ship you hear only rumors about.
Just like to say you got me hooked on this game and I dont know if it was you but a couples days after you started playing again this game went on sale and have like 7dollars (NZD) so thanks for getting me hooked on this game :)
Engineers are a bit of a grind. But Frontier is full of grind. You will eventually want Imperial or Federation ships, and those require running specific Federation or Imperial missions to earn the reputation. They have made it more easy than it used to be. But it will still take some work to get there and to find the missions in a reasonable amount of time. Not to mention also needing the cash flow. With the patch we got yesterday (Tuesday the 9th of June 2020). We will need to find a better mining system for the best profit. Everything got jumbled up with Fleet Carriers.
Unlocking the engineers isnt half bad, but boy oh boy is getting those materials a royal pita. (Allso, good to see you finally picked up a Conda. Shes goina serve you well.) At least we have material traders now, i remember(with dread) the days when you would get the mats in chunks of ONE and you had to collect each and every one of them. Just grabbing a bunch of imperial shieldings and trading them in for virtually anything else manufactured is still a hefty grind, but at least its nowhere nearly as bad as it used to be. ...and lets not forget about the shared limit for all those materials, preventing you from ever carrying more than enough stuff for just a couple rolls. Things are alot better these days.
I think the logic is - If engineering materials took up cargo space in the same manner as other commodities then surely you ought to be able to trade them like other commodities -> no more grinding for materials, you only have to earn enough credits (from much more lucrative activities) to buy them.
You can level up your exploration very quickly by scanning planets with a detailed surface scanner that Earthlike > Amonia > Water > Metal rich planets give the most credits often more than a million even if it was scanned before so you can literally become Scout rank with scanning one of those planets so mount a detailed surface scanner and check out planets when you are landing in a station if it is one of those planets just slow down and scan it you won't regret... Also engineering is good but isn't that good rather it is really hard to shoot small ships with big ships like Anaconda as they can't keep up with their extreme maneuverability especially enemy pilot is good which is why often they carry fighters to deal with small ships.
As of mid August 2020, I tried the site in the video and the other on the opposite side of planet. The site jingles is on has those hovering beasties who will get angry if you shoot at the large dome-like mounds. The opposite side of the planet has a smaller site with the barnacles more concentrated together and no beasties. Coordinate 8.4914, -32.6317
I enjoyed your video, but some of these comments! Escaping other players is not difficult. You'll have to fly a meta ship with meta loadout to fight them, but not to survive them. If you're new to the game, I recommend taking a Diamonback Explorer and using that to unlock the engineers. Use the website Inara.cz, only unlock the engineers that will get the modules you use to grade 5. Start with Farseer and G5 that fsd. Then work on collecting more materials. Depending on your play style, you can collect what you need or you can grind it. It's an easy grind though. I've had the game for years so when Engineers hit I had an entire fleet to do, and when I came back from a long break I re-engineered a lot of it so I did the grind. It was fun though, definitely less of a job than it used to be and nothing like other "grinds" of the past. There are 3 systems that you can travel to where you can max out on all but 1 of the top shelf elements, for selenium, there is a planet with a high percentage that can be found using eddb.io For your manumats, just enter any system and look for High Grade Signal Sources, and bring a bunch of limpets. Now, if you don't want to rush it because you have a fleet to engineer, then just go system to system, cleaning out the HGSS's. Otherwise, do the procedure of resetting the HGSS you're in so that you can max out the material. Don't try to hunt down every G5 manumat. Just max out the one using the procedure and then down trade and cross trade at the mat dealer. As for data, there are always tons of missions for modified embedded firmware, and the easiest way for the top shelf wake data, plus all other wake dats, was to find a system with famine, go to the distribution center, and scan the wakes there. Bring an A rated scanner and a fast ship because there will be a lot to scan. I haven't done it in a long time, so hopefully that info is still relevant. There is also the Jameson Crashsite which provides lots of data and can be reset but I haven't tried that yet. Last pieces of advice, don't forget to pin your blueprints and, with the exception of the FSD, set a goal of maxing or nearly maxing out Grade 3 on your modules. That's more than enough to stomp the NPCs in this game. Once you figure out which ships are keepers and/or you find that one that is your forever ship, then burn through those mats G5'n everything. (Except the power plant, keep that one as low as possible).
I forgot to explain why I recommend using s DBX for doing all of this. It's really easy to get a huge jump range with the DBX and it has a large hardpoint. Chances are you'll run your main ship around to these engineers one time for each internal, but you'll be back multiple times for weapons and shield boosters. You dock at the nearby station at the engineer and transfer the rest of the C3 weapons, then ferry them down one at a time. This, however, isn't the chore of used to be now that we have the remote workshop and any engineer that works on a particular module can apply an experimental, no matter if the module is a higher grade than what that engineer provides. For example, pin your favorite laser upgrade with Broo who offers G5, then as your making your lasers remotely in your neighborhood, take them to The Agporaphobe, I mean The Dweller, for the experimentals.
Good lord Jingles, I wish you had been with us on the Distant Words Expeditions. No combat, but I would love to have heard your commentary on the mischief and shenanigans we got up to :) Fly safe Commander. Hope to see you ingame sometime. Feel free to send a friend request to CMDR. Maia Posidana.
Not just engineering allowing a Sidewinder to kick an Anacondas arse, the pilot needs to know where the Anacondas blind spot is AND be a good enough pilot to stay in it. Also you can short cut some engineered modules (sort of) by unlocking the equipment the technology broker has on offer.

Have a look into 'Guardian FSD Boosters'. It seems a bit grindy but worth it for exploration/long range ships, especially if you want an Asp Explorer with a 70Ly jump range or an Anaconda with an 80Ly jump range.
Who wants an Asp Explorer?
Diamondback Explorer > all
Oh my Jingles!...... stunning bit of story telling and gameplay tutoring there. If I hadnt already got 3500+ hours in ED then I'd be straight down to the Steam Store with a wad of cash burning a hole in ,y pocket.
Currently crossed out of my mind - nothing else Id rather watch than papa jingles
Great video Jingles. The stars are so beautiful in ED. I should actually play this since I've owned it for 3+ years now
Even if I have more than 6000 hours in elite, and have done everything that you are doing several times, I enjoy this series of videos.
LOL you'll be cursing his name in a few months when you realise how much of your life you wasted playing the grindiest game ever made....
@@trimat2016 I needed a game that I could escape into while waiting for Cyberpunk 2077 and VTMV 2 to finally get here. I look forward to popping in and out of this game over the years and Odyessy looks nice in 2021.
I hadn't played since the beta. Your new videos have got me firing it up again!
Really enjoying these vids Sir Jingles. So much so I've now gone and purchased it myself,30 plus years after playing the original to death.
Thank you for the excellent video and that ending was great! Cliff hanger Jingles strikes again.
The elite series finally gave men incentive to watch good old Jingles videos again^^
I'm really enjoying this series and it even revived my interest in the game as well.
I hope there are a lot more to come^^
Ha! I had bought it 2 years ago, but never really go back into playing until Jingles sold it to me.
If you go to her and sell a ton of exploration data it gives you rep too, I sold 8mil ish of data at the station and she offered me all the way to level 5 right off the bat :) oh and Jingles, I brought this game recently because of you! cheers mate
It took me so long to figure out that I need to target something to collect it.... what idiot designed this...
Considering the video today, maybe an,.......wait for it,.....an "Engineer" maybe. Lol 😂👍
To be fair, up until now I hadn't realized that you could just right click to target something, and I've been playing for like 4 years haha
@@KasumiWyvern Do you know how I figured that one out? I tried using t second fire group on my SRV.... as it turns out, that is bound to target lock by default, so no secondary fire groups can be used. Not like it matters, you will be using target lock much more often anyway.
*Outstanding instructional video, my friend! **_Please do keep them coming!_*
@Themightyjingles hey when driving the SRV, just drive with assist off, it makes things a lot simpler
The game sounds with that ship at the end were very, very good.
Wait, so Thargoids are seeding Tiberium crystals now?
pro tip: always carry multiple of 6 of every engineer material as it will take 6 at maximum to engineer something
When it comes to grade 5s it can even be 10. 10 times before you fully engineer a module or a weapon.
Even grade 4 can sometimes require 8 tries, leave alone grade 5...
no it never needs more than 6 maximum
untrue, engineered every ship I have over 3 accounts and it is never 6 max for everyone. as the others have said it can "sometimes" take up to around 10 even with g5 access to the engineer
I believe that's only true if you're already maxed out with the engineer. Otherwise more.
Glad to see you on Elite Dangerous Jingles
Jingles has done it again.. I just bought the game, and now i have to learn this beast of a game. FML.
Been a long time since i followed any show , gotta say i'm really looking forward to this. Good Show Jingles.
wicked cool ending there Jingles. that was awersome
Ah, what just happened? Did,...did Jingles just destroy another ship,....without,...a .."JINGLES LANDING"! 😂👍
10/10 would get intercepted again.
awesome ending cinematics there. Nice FDL
I was persuaded to buy this game. Thanks Jingles!
Dammit Jingles, if you keep uploading these Elite vids ... im gonna end up buying it...
Thanks Jingles.
These elite dangerous videos are great
ITS THE SPACE VIKINGS FROM THE PLANET VAAAARG AGAIN
How many hours are we talking about?
Cutter grind?
Literally spent a maximum of 10 hours from first rank, to Baron.
Corvette. Around 15 hours.
@@11DNA11 Bit optimistic if you ask me, but still nothing compared to the hundreds of hours wasted to properly engineer it.
@@katalinkovacs2884 not that many, 300-ish
There’s a great Steam sale for Elite Dangerous right now for a few more days, I just picked it up myself after watching Jingles!
In today's episode, intrepid space explorer Jingles attempts to raise his "access level" with a lady of space, in order to get her to "perform."
And get access to bigger and better "engineered parts."
Well now. This is getting interesting! More please!
Brilliant ending, sir. Kudos to thee.
Holy shit. The ending was fucking terrifying.
Jingles, you really need to try the Krait if you get the chance. The Krait Phantom for exploring and the Krait Mk. II for everything else. The Krait Mk. II can equip a fighter bay and even has a coffee maker in the back. Seriously, there's a coffee maker in the back. 😂
the end of the video - 'Prepare to be probed, human..'
You finally got their attention, well done Jingles!
I can’t wait for jingles to take on the thargoids!!!
Christ that ending.
Imagine the terror of cruising along in Hyperspace where you KNOW no ship can touch you...
Then you get pulled out of it by an Alien ship you hear only rumors about.
Great ending to this vid!! Thx Jingles!
Great video jingles
Unlocking the engineers isnt half bad, but boy oh boy is getting those materials a royal pita. (Allso, good to see you finally picked up a Conda. Shes goina serve you well.)
At least we have material traders now, i remember(with dread) the days when you would get the mats in chunks of ONE and you had to collect each and every one of them.
Rofl jingles did you get probed there at the end? wonderful video.
The hell happened at the end!? Looked more than terrifying.
The first time thargoids interdict you out of hyperdrive is an exciting moment
I think the logic is - If engineering materials took up cargo space in the same manner as other commodities then surely you ought to be able to trade them like other commodities -> no more grinding for materials, you only have to earn enough credits (from much more lucrative activities) to buy them.
Wish we could get more tanks and warships vids again. Miss workshop wednesday too
You can level up your exploration very quickly by scanning planets with a detailed surface scanner that Earthlike > Amonia > Water > Metal rich planets give the most credits often more than a million even if it was scanned before so you can literally become Scout rank with scanning one of those planets so mount a detailed surface scanner and check out planets when you are landing in a station if it is one of those planets just slow down and scan it you won't regret...
Also engineering is good but isn't that good rather it is really hard to shoot small ships with big ships like Anaconda as they can't keep up with their extreme maneuverability especially enemy pilot is good which is why often they carry fighters to deal with small ships.
Oh, you need those power plant updates.. :D
Jingles I found this game because of you. Playing only Elite Dangerous since your first movie. Keep up the awesome content.
There are 3 systems that you can travel to where you can max out on all but 1 of the top shelf elements, for selenium, there is a planet with a high percentage that can be found using eddb.io
For your manumats, just enter any system and look for High Grade Signal Sources, and bring a bunch of limpets.
Thargoids we dont have to worry about those for a long while.....Oshi.....Bugger! XD
Good to see you back o7.

Damn Jingles....that's a nice Asp ^-^
