I really wish Blackmagic would completely revamp how text animation works. I’ve always found it quite cumbersome to do even some of the most basic animations like you demonstrate here. After Effects is still king when it comes to text animating I hate to admit.

I've been wondering how they do those complex word by word highlight and colour changes on all those youtube shorts. This whole time I had the power to do it, and didn't know what it was called. Subscribed!
I do think there's value in showing the limitations of software, and then showing how to work around them. Though, I agree there ought to be a more automatic way to achieve this.
There's a time that I wanted to do this and I just ended up going for a different animation. Thanks for giving us an option. Blackmagic really should update the follower. Another issue is if your text has a shadow or outline (or both), you would have to animate that separately if you're doing character-wise animation. It makes more sense to just have everything in the transform tab as opposed to the shading tab.

Great video man, super helpful. And nice editing as well. I totally agree it's such a bizarre choice to not have a position animator under the Transform tab of the follower. CMON DVR! You know what does have a position animator? The Shading tab. If you keyframe the Offset X/Y found under Shading Tab -> Position subheader, you will be able to animate and delay the position of characters/words. Note: if you use this (^) method, you need to animate the offset back in the Follower modifier, not the new Path1 that generates from creating a keyframe. EDIT: NVM this only does character by character animation. Word by Word is a current limitation of the follower in Fusion. Sadge.
Hey! I figured out an easier workaround for the word by word translation animation. You need to keyframe two values in the transform tab of the follower: Pivot and Size. Set the size keyframe difference very small (first can be 0.99 and second 1.00) and then set the start keyframe of the pivot very large (in the direction you want the movement to come from). The smaller the size keyframe difference, the larger the pivot keyframe difference needs to be. Since the pivot is moving the center of the sizing animation, you can cheat the system by moving your pivot distance to the moon and create a visible translation animation with imperceivable sizing change. Hope this helps someone!
I'm sure you can move the text node by grabbing hold of the text node handle in the middle of the sentence, which looks like an arrow pointing upwards and the other one pointing to the right

You’re very welcome. Not quite sure I understand though. Are you trying to change ALL of the text clips to the same font, style, colour etc? From the edit page?
@@RyanOsborneUK Yes. For example, I'm on the edit page, I added Text+, stretched it for 1-2 minutes and cut it into parts. I have written subtitles in each text block and I need to change the font, color or modify the text in the shading elements tab in all blocks. I can only do this by selecting one cut block. If I select all the others, this is not possible.
@@souhaillokman6619 I'm not sure if I've been misunderstood. I meant when you create a new text on the timeline, you drag the "Text+" panel (block) from the Toolbox window. Then this panel is cut off with a blade, i.e. the blocks with text are already divided on the timeline. And if you dragged a "text" block, then by selecting all the cut blocks, you can change the font and color in the inspector. If it is "Text+", then this is not possible. My question is whether there is any way to bind or synchronize these blocks (text+) with each other so that it is possible to change at least the font. Sorry if I confused you :)

When I go to the Fusion page, all I see at the bottom where you had the “text node” is what I’m guessing it’s called, is “mediain1” and “mediaout1” how to I get to the point where I can even click on a text node like you did? I do have my text box already inserted on the edit page, is that where this begins? Or am I missing something?

Hi Ryan, I recently tried to add permanently visible text like this to my first RUclips Short video. I just did it in the edit page and it all looked fine before I exported it, but when it appeared on my RUclips channel the text had disappeared. I spoke to RUclips help and they tried to tell me that RUclips Shorts is not set up for this , which seems wrong as just about every short you watch has text. Why do you think the Short didn’t upload with the text included?
At the risk of sounding silly… did you check your video file before you uploaded it? How did you export the video from resolve? Because RUclips won’t alter your video like that. If it didn’t appear on RUclips, my guess is it wasn’t on the exported file to begin with

Is there a way to insert a longer pause between 2 words in the middle of the sentence, then carry on appearing at the same speed? < for example if that sentence was animated, there'd be a pause at the comma. I ended up using 2 text nodes + a Merge, then just moving them and the keyframes manually.

I'm not able to go from the edit page to the fusion page. Let me explain. I have my background and text clips separately in the edit page, I then select the text clip and tap on the fusion page but nothing shows. I also tried creating a fusion composition from the text clip but there doesn't seem to be an option. Help pls :(

Does anyone know how to have the timeline background show while in Fusion? I need to edit text and set key frames word by word based on how my speaker is speaking and I don't want to guess at the frames.
For some reason when I do anything to the text node nothing happens, I did notice, that when I put a delay on it affected my audio instead. I have no idea what's happening. Help, please!
Hey Ryan, thanks so much for this, I was able to kill it in DaVinci today but I have a question,, with the Word by Word plugin I was not able to get text shading like drop shadow to work within Fusion, on the clips that I did myself I was able to, how can I get the drop shadow etc with the plugin on the Text Settings page, it does nothing
Amazing dude, glad to hear it 💪 okay so right click the word by word clip, open in fusion and then in between the word by word node and the media out, add a “drop shadow” node in between the chain. Unfortunately I didn’t add an easy way to add this from the edit page but… this should work for you 😄 all the best!

Amazing dude, glad to hear it 💪 okay so right click the word by word clip, open in fusion and then in between the word by word node and the media out, add a “drop shadow” node in between the chain. Unfortunately I didn’t add an easy way to add this from the edit page but… this should work for you 😄 all the best!
