  • (WARNING) if your sensitive to knife abuse Don't watch!
    This video is for showing the limits of 3v at this hardness and geometry with deflection angle added on a nail and stab and pry on a anvil. It shows that 3v is extremely tough and the blade itself doesn't break in half even with the most extreme abuse.

    WOW! That was kinda painful to watch, but, that repair job was excellent. Great work, dude! Sure shows CPM-3V is as tough as they say it is.

    Nice to see Benchmade did a good heat treatment. I would get one except I don't like handles with no finger guard of some fashion. I guess after reading Phil Wilson's reasoning for always having one it made too much sense.

    • @FearNoSteel
      @FearNoSteel  5 лет назад +7

      Phil is the man, it was great to visit him at his shop, I'm the complete opposite. I can't stand guards, they get in the way of use and sharpening, I strongly feel it is the users responsibility to be safe, not a feature on a knife. Your not wrong for feeling the opposite, plenty of people strongly feel guards are absolutely necessarily. Different strokes for different folks.

    i think they need to make more fixed blades in 3V with other blade shapes. maybe a survival knife, something with a stout tip and a fair primary grind for outdoors, bushcraft, camping, and survival. puukko is great for the finer things of those fields.

    • @FearNoSteel
      @FearNoSteel  5 лет назад +4

      This is really a survival knife in the shape of a puukko, it has a very robust grind and tip already I don't disagree though. We need more :D

    Bbb if you still have it can you run this knife in you Rockwell tester?

    • @FearNoSteel
      @FearNoSteel  4 года назад +3

      not worth doing, its not crazy hard, they have stated they are now running the 3v harder, it would be more interesting to test a newer version although perhaps that only applied to the folders. IDK, not my show, I dont work there or make decisions also its not a super expensive knife so can't complain, if we wanted more hardness we would want a different steel anyways.

    • @jasonburns956
      @jasonburns956 4 года назад +2

      Big Brown Bear 55-58 seems way to soft they would have been better going with another cheaper steel

    • @holdernewtshesrearin5471
      @holdernewtshesrearin5471 2 года назад

      Carpenter calls for 3V to be used at 59 to 61 for optimum performance i believe.
      I think Benchmade runs it way too soft on the Bailout folder. Not sure about the fixed blades though.

    Ummmm ... why? I'm sure if I take my car and run it into a brick wall ... it will be totaled. I guess Common sense is in short supply. After all. ... I won't be stabbing my anvil or cutting a nail with my knife! What am I missing?

    • @FearNoSteel

      Correct, sometimes it's important to demystify steels that people think are indestructible.

      there rock hard, prone to loading and dont have as much feedback but way more then the UF stone you were talking about. They make crisper edges since they cut more and burnish less.
