Very informative video! Also, I'm glad to learn I won't have freaking Super Mario Bros clouds burnt into my barely month old Steam Deck permanently

It's looking like this is a widespread issue on the Switch now with F-Zero 99

I found that disabling VSync seems to prevent this on my Deck, if anyone needs a solution that works for more than just Retroarch. This is the one time when inconsistent frame pacing is actually helpful ;)

I have this issue with my Steam Games library, when I leave it open for too long it will leave behind the game-titles and images. It's not like I can put on a Filter ontop of Steam OS. What should I do?

If this is happening when you just leave it idle on the Steam library, I'd contact Valve because you might have a defective screen. But, LCD burn-in is usually temporary and there are videos you can use to clear it on RUclips if you want a temporary fix.

Ok so I've been playing a lot of pokemon crystal on my steam deck, and the battle background seems burned into my screen, will this method get rid of that? Because I REALLY don't want to send my deck in for repairs.

It might help! According to my research, LCSs like the one in the Deck are not able to burn in permanently, any burn in we see is temporary. If you let the Deck cool off and don't play it for a while, it might go away, as can playing a video of random static. The steps I show in this video should keep it from happening at all.

@@sudologic I just sat in desktop mode for 5 minutes and it disappeared. I went back to finish the gym I was doing and it came back. Could this be a fan related issue? I know the lower fan in my steam deck is barely working.

The issue is that when pixels flash at a consistent interval, especially a multiple of the framerate, the pixels sometimes get stuck. The technique I described in the video is intended to smooth out the flashing so that the issue is less noticeable. However, if you just leave the Deck alone for a while or watch a video of static it will also undo it.
This isn't real burn-in, it isn't permanent, but it is no less annoying. The technique in the video should help.

@@sudologic Yeah, tbh, my deck has probably been doing this every time I run Pokemon Crystal, but I only just started noticing it now.

There are videos on RUclips that can help with LCD image retention. I'd suggest playing one of those for a few hours and trying that.
