See how the D-Max and BT-50 go in our 2021 4x4 Dual Cab Ute Off-Road Mega Test: ruclips.net/video/wxy4jBnKMX4/видео.html And our On-Road Mega Test: ruclips.net/video/kHOdFU3eUpg/видео.html
I was actually looking for a comparo like this. I was wondering which one I should go for but after this video, I'll go for the BT50 just because it looks so damn good, you can wear a suit while driving it and not look out of place.
I think people in the comments are missing the reason why they made this video to compare the bt50 and the Dmax. yes they are identical, but there are a lot people out there who have no clue and the video helps with that. its a great video and it all comes down to style and brand with these two. would be nice for more info about cost of ownership and warranty between the two as thats basically the real difference.
He already clearly said up front that they are twins under the skin. The point of this video is a general discussion of the drive trains and 4wd systems of both vs Hiliux/Ranger etc. Since the choice comes down to aesthetics it doesn’t hurt to see them side by side.
Here in the philippines, top of the line dmax A/T has no rear differential lock. I would pick bt50 because it is equiped with rear differential lock, more premium interior and also all dealerships offer a free 5-year PMS.
The only thing this really proves is that standard road tires only just cut it off road. I agree an upgrade of tyres is in order for that type of terrain.
momentum, line and tyre pressure are main keys when driving in difficult terrain, even with standard HT based tyres you can probably go as low as 22psi and be comfortable that the tyres still have enough in them to keep you out of trouble while also giving you more surface grip, line is super important so make sure you are able to see over the bonnet and guards and with momentum best off using 2nd gear (locked if possible with manual mode if an auto or also take off in 2nd gear) that way if you are using rear diff lock which kills Traction control system then at last the engine takes that bit long to spool up with full boost which keeps you crawling at a more steady pace then it would in 1st gear which is only good if you need max torque in a hurry.
Just like what a commenter said, momentum is always your friend and that's always true. These guys seem to have a different motif, more like "traction control is our best friend".
The Mazda kodo design, interior and optional wheels look good. The Dmax comes alive on the x-terrain, bar the wheels. The rear design is a let down in my view.
Lots of professional drivers commenting I see. Interesting compare that, like F1/V8SC, same basics vehicle different driver/different lines and you still get a different result. I think Mazda will win some sales as it has stock. When Dmax is available it will earn more as it appeals to wider crowd.
My opinion is that both trucks do not have the right tires for the terrain is a point of view and there you can see better the strength of each one and also see better development of the machinery
The Isuzu salesperson told me there's a 4 month waiting list for the D Max I guess you can add another month or so to that. The Mazda is available now, so the winner is?? DPF and EGR issues is the fear with both so it really comes down to which has the better after sales support. Your guess is good as mine on that one. 😢
I chose to buy a new D Max over the BT 50 simplly because I needed a space cab with a longer back than a twin cab, the Isuzu had a space cab with a lot higher trim level than the BT 50 in the space cab and I wanted more comfortable seats and a few extra gadgets so I bought the D Max, not much difference in them really apart from that.
Thats where front diff lock would of shine, rear diff lock always make the back step out, broke my tail light that way, only problem is the steering with front lock
What’s the idea of a aluminium tail shaft. Front suspension top a arms have bolted together components.Why. Would think 1 piece like Hilux a arms would be more durable. Was interested in replacing my Hilux with a dmax.Still a bit weak looking in some areas. Think I’ll stick with Toyota.
They both look super aggressive and cool. But for me, the Mazda only looks good In an ambush bull ar. Nothing else looks good on the bt. But the dmax suits all bars.
The Izuzu seems to be doing well than the Mazda..now want to see the offroad capabilities of the Izuzu in slush and mud and more difficult steep incline...if it passes it, hands down to the Izuzu
That was a very steep incline that they did that test on. It’s actually not a very forgiving track. They do use the “chicken track” on this track as they wouldn’t be able to climb over the rock steps with the clearance they have
tackling difficult terrains with these vehicles requires skills. vehicle preparation, ground appreciation and passion for 4x4 driving. up skill yourself in these areas and present a better review
Next time explain to the dummies at the start that you go slow to see how well the traction of the 4wd system is. But you did take a different line which is why the Bt-50 got stuck. If you stayed in the ruts the back end wouldn't have gone sideways.
Isuzu D-MAX 4inline cylinders but Mazda BT 50 got 5inline cylinders so interm of service maintenance wear and tear repair lower cost is Isuzu D-MAX fuel consumption much economic
I cannot understand why any manufacturer would be HT tyres on a 4WD vehicle. It makes no sense at all. Having bought a new vehicle we shouldn't have to go out and buy new tyres for our off road car.
Funny you should mention that. As that is one of my pet peeves too.... The other week asked a dealer that very question of "why when your selling a 4x4 do you put road tires on it?" the answer I got was "because most people who buy them never use them for 4x4ing" Thinking about it... how many people do you know who has a 4x4 ute never uses it other than for getting groceries or taking the rubbish to the dump or down to the river or beach? I would guess the majority of owners so they do have a point... But what I would like to see is an option of proper 4x4 tires eg M/T not A/T. Although in all fairness here at least that is an option now at most dealerships regardless of brand.
I don't understand, why every off road cat test reviewer using stock tyres that those not for mud and soil purpose, and finally test results never good as it should
these car reviewers are dead set pelicans...they lost all credibility in the first 5 min by running on road tire pressures. and secondly, momentum and locker is all you need. stop banging on about traction control.

What like a 3 piece suite or a suit.
Sorry don’t mean to be rude but what’s the point of this comparison there the same Ute are you testing the grill and tail lights
Exactly. The only difference is price, spec and availability
He is Just messing with our heads .... 😮
He already clearly said up front that they are twins under the skin. The point of this video is a general discussion of the drive trains and 4wd systems of both vs Hiliux/Ranger etc. Since the choice comes down to aesthetics it doesn’t hurt to see them side by side.
@@henrylawson430 well if you want to see a comparison of those utes you mentioned it might help if they were there
I agree. These are both the same Utes with different brand skirts and belong on bitumen.
If your trying to compare, WHY select two models so different. A low spec Dmax with 17” rims and a top end BT50 with 18” rims.
Wheels *
My instructors in the Army always told me that momentum was your friend,I never could prove them wrong.
Agree, and I hate how these guys lack momentum just because "a Hilux or a Ranger has a more sophisticated traction control nye nye"
Geez.
To test the vehicle, one can not rely on momentum.
@@NitinKatiyarCircle obviously you hardly driven a ute off the gravel
The system wasn’t the problem, it’s the way the vehicle was drive .

exactly what i was thinking. i expected him to actually find pros & cons of each vehicle but no
I was surprised that they didn't even let the pressure down those tyres

Still driving my 10 year old BT50 clocking nearly 250k
The Mazda kodo design, interior and optional wheels look good. The Dmax comes alive on the x-terrain, bar the wheels. The rear design is a let down in my view.
I'd go with the D-Max
The fact of the matter is most of us will not be taking our pickups through these courses on the weekends from work to beach, and light off roaming
It’s BT50 for me. Looks stylish even for a dual cab .
Looks like they chopped a CX-5 in half and slapped a tray on the back.
@@embraceit7654 with those headlights its similar to the cx9
Pointless comparo, they are identical vehicles. Other than tyres nothing that matters will be proved. Regardless, nice to watch them in the bush.
The point here was mainly to see if the traction control systems etc were different between the 2.
I don't think so.
When ur choosing between the 2 models, this comparison is helpful.
A better test would be the old and new BT50 cos the old one was essentially a Ranger so better off road but a low rent interior
Isuzu any day any time..we love it to bits here in Africa...tough as nails 👌🏽
Why did u choose the worst driver
Lots of professional drivers commenting I see. Interesting compare that, like F1/V8SC, same basics vehicle different driver/different lines and you still get a different result. I think Mazda will win some sales as it has stock. When Dmax is available it will earn more as it appeals to wider crowd.
where did you bought the back (hinged) cover for d-max? can that also be shipped in the Philippines?
Great episode
I would definitely pick the D-max 👍😃🍻
What is flying outside the driver window around 5:50?
clearly a drone
My opinion is that both trucks do not have the right tires for the terrain is a point of view and there you can see better the strength of each one and also see better development of the machinery
Highway tyres are hopeless for what they are trying to do give them an identical set of A/T’s for a good comparison.
Mazda BT-50 for me.
This comparison is like asking which colour is the better looking
What is the Payload capacity and towing capacity of Dmax? Thanks mate!
3.5 ton
hi... are this tyre are same pattern...? a/t or m/t... same brand...? thanks...
The Isuzu salesperson told me there's a 4 month waiting list for the D Max I guess you can add another month or so to that. The Mazda is available now, so the winner is?? Did he just said "reverse back" @ 2:48 mark.... 🤦🏽♂️
does anyone know which track in NSW they were at?
Get a new driver...
But he has ragged flannel shirt and manly beard - looks offroadish enough.
It’s kind of good if he’s not a pro , a lot of buyers of these utes are beginners like myself, all the gear and no idea
what's the tire size of the bt-50?
I chose to buy a new D Max over the BT 50 simplly because I needed a space cab with a longer back than a twin cab, the Isuzu had a space cab with a lot higher trim level than the BT 50 in the space cab and I wanted more comfortable seats and a few extra gadgets so I bought the D Max, not much difference in them really apart from that.
I bought the BT Pangolin 2. Because I got the Isuzu reliability and Mazda styling, 2 in 1shot.
before engaging the diff lock try some left foot brake while adding throttle
why test it in that conditions with H/T tyres?
Great review.
Thats where front diff lock would of shine, rear diff lock always make the back step out, broke my tail light that way, only problem is the steering with front lock
Why, a 19 Bt50 with 21 Bt50 would have been more different than comparing these two.
if you want a better looking D-Max , go buy the BT-50.
CarAdvice can you do GWM Cannon off road review
We are trying to line one up soon!
@@Drivecomau thanks 🤩
Have seen the rear flex on the Cannon and the workings of the off road systems. Will be interesting to see how it goes up SOB.
Here you go Nicolas, We had one in our mega test and it surprised us ruclips.net/video/wxy4jBnKMX4/видео.html
Какой размер резины ( колёс) , на тестовом d-max?
did you deflate the tyres....

Most definitely driver error! You failed to take the same route on the top section as the D-Max causing you to slide!
if you like more the looks of the bt50 then pay more, they are just basically the same vehicle, one more expensive than the other
Pay more? Isuzu is way more expensive.
I like bt 50
Isuzu was dearly missed
Compare the DMax with the Triton!?
Not in same league
The Mazda has a nicer front, but I'd go for the Isuzu because.
tackling difficult terrains with these vehicles requires skills. vehicle preparation, ground appreciation and passion for 4x4 driving. up skill yourself in these areas and present a better review
D''Max
This was absolutely hilarious, can’t believe these flogs posted this video and none of them had a clue what they were doing
Dmax
I choose Isuzu d max
Worst driver ever!
I learned nth cuz its a dmax vs dmax
Either one, best price for me

For the interior.. BT-50 since its all Isuzu underneath now!
BT50 for me
not going to lie both of them is good but the bt -50 is a litte good than but i will like the bt -50 more it looks cool 🚗🚗🚗🚗
Isuzu 1.9l?
D-Max
these car reviewers are dead set pelicans...they lost all credibility in the first 5 min by running on road tire pressures. and secondly, momentum and locker is all you need. stop banging on about traction control.
DMAX FOR SURE
D max all the way Bro.!!
Isuzu Dmax for me. Always a DMAx
i love D-max
Buy a Gladiator for this type of use.
I would go with the Toyota land cruiser 😁 no need to have a video 🤣🤣
I'd go with a Range Rover Classic. Wins hands down.
Dmax everyday
What a complete waste of time. Comparing red apples with green apples.
D max
D-Max all the time
BT50...
dmax xterrain with 18' tyre
Dmax vs dmax
Dmax vs SheMax
I'll take Sam.
Bt50
Ooh this was painful to watch 😂
The pangolin is more powerful..why did they make a less powerful truck? Doesnt make sense.
Одна и та же машина, дизайн разный только.
bad test with normal tyres
