If only you lived closer. I paid someone once to sort out paper. In my craft room ( scrapbooker here) She left me a mess. I’m still struggling. Baby steps. Be well be blessed.
My biggest hurdle is my mind. If something gets too unorganized (as my place does often), I just can’t face it. I get overwhelmed. When I get overwhelmed I just shut down. If I can’t face cleaning my office, then I might as well just stay in bed all day. Logically, I know what’s wrong and how to fix it, but emotionally I just can’t do it. I do love your work space and how creative you are.
Boy, do I relate to you. I am moving, so I really am more overwhelmed than usual because now I HAVE TO GET AT IT. Physical limitations just add to the problem. But watching Norrine has helped a lot. She is so encouraging and real. Makes me feel like there is hope at the end of the tunnel. Try to love yourself as you struggle through, Tammy. You are not alone in the struggle!
I needed to hear a bunch of what you said. I'm tired of playing Tetris with boxes of stuff I don't use in order to access space I need! I have Christmas pillows I don't use, mats from frames I keep saving for someday, etc. Why? No more! I'm setting the timer and purging!!! Because the peace I'll get is better than the anxiety and aggravation I currently have. Thank you, Norrine, for the kick in the butt!
Karen - YOU are the person I was hoping to reach!!!!! Thank you so much for this comment!!!! I am so excited for you! Take your time - set that timer - and please, keep me posted!!!!
Boy oh boy..this was right on time for me! As I type I'm looking at the remnants of my latest organization project still yet unfinished. I began working on my linen closet and am 80% done but beating myself up over the 20% not done. Thank you thank you for helping us feel better and all the wonderful encouragement you give! Hugs!!
One inspiration to continue organizing is hearing one of my teens express how stressed and tense she often feels. I thought SURELY I can order my home in considering her needs (real or imagined). So I have changed things up a bit. I look around the areas she uses and check that it is not a clutter area. I also let her find a special spot to home-school away from the youngsters we babysit. Sometimes the noise clutter distracts and stresses her, even though she loves the kids. Funny how the results of decluttering creates peace.
You are an awesome Mom to recognize and accommodate for her! It took me a long time to put those two things together for myself. So glad you can do that for your family. 🌺💜
Norrine you look great! This video is the bitter truth of organizing and you have some great suggestions. You are always so helpful. I always have to have my oldies music, usually starting with Queen, going whenever I have a project I'm not looking forward to. I look forward to hearing the music and it makes me feel younger to hear music from that time I was young. Important to avoid mirrors when feeling young. lol
I have organized my craft room so many times, my husband will come home from work and see the room destroyed and say "Oh, I see you're organizing again." I finally applied one of the suggestions you made a while back was to put like things with like, so I made that my goal. I don't set a timer but I do set a time. I have one hour for this so let's get started. After the one hour I have to decide do I go for another hour or not. I have gotten so much done it's amazing. Some days I can only handle 15 minutes, but that's okay. It's getting done. Thank you so much for all your great suggestions. You are the best!!!
It is longer than a weekend process!!! I am finished homeschooling my 3 kids and my 2 grandsons, so I am going through all that stuff and passing on stuff, selling stuff and throwing away stuff. I have been working off and on for 3 years now. Life keeps getting in the way! But now I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I'm happy. I am reclaiming my house, one space at a time. Thanks for all your tips, and words of encouragement!
Linda, Same! I have been home-schooling since 1999. Turns out I had nine children and have been accumulating soooo many good books. I have graduated six, and my youngest three are all in high-school. It is very freeing to eliminate books I no longer need. Some books I don't want to toss because they haven't been read, so I am going to put them on a schedule to read, set a deadline, then toss if they aren't worth re-reading, put them on a 'good reading's list if they ARE, then donate. Yippee!!!!
@@suzum.9713 I sorted my "library" a while back into categories. then donated probably a third of them. (4 large boxes of Agatha Christie!) plus many others. then i sorted into keepers, to be read then sold or donated, and to read and passed on to family. and the cookbooks! I inherited most of all the books, but I am not a great cook and would put sticky note tabs on the recipe pages I might one day try. if it was just a few in a book, i started scanning just those pages to the cloud. then donating the book.
Thank you, Norrine. I began watching this video and it inspired me to get up from the computer and finish a small project that has been bugging me for far too long. I am fortunate enough to have had my hobby space redone last fall by a closet company. (My room is open to the main living spaces of the house so I needed something very neat and tidy.) I have one open shelving unit and it only needed the last two shelves added using little metal inserts into holes. I just did that and the pretty glass mementoes sitting on my desk are now where they belong. It took fewer than 13 minutes!
Great tips today. I had to implement a reverse timer so I don't sit and watch YT all day. Once the timer goes off, I challenge myself to get up and organize or clean for 30-60 min, then I am rewarded with more videos!
As always I need to hear what you have - sometimes I re-listen to your videos. I believe the most important word of advice for me is "set a timer" don't shut the door. Thank you, thank you.
Norrine, you are an angel 👼🏻 have you considered writing a book? Your tips are for real people. For real homes. There are so many others that need to hear you. You are my inspiration ❤️🇦🇺
Limits, limits, limits....remember that I'm not 30 anymore. What I want to get done today is going to take me 2 days or even 3 and that's okay. (see, I'm learning. I can do this.)
Fantastic advice! I would like to add one more piece of advice....I have a habit of thinking I know where 'stuff' is located; so when I go to look for an item and it's not there, most of the time it's because I have given or thrown away the item and have completely forgotten about it. Frustrating...so now I have a "where stuff is at" list on my computer...It has helped me tremendously. You probably have already been given this advice before, but I'm new to this channel, so...
I feel like since everyone is at home, I take longer to get one room organize . It took me one month to go over my kids paperwork, art work , and fine a system that works for me and I take in your ideas and now with all the decluttering gone, I now see the light. Week 1 after it’s all contain, omg it looks better and having a binder for my kid school info, school assignment , etc. has helped a ton.
Lin, I am so excited for you!!!!! And kids papers are the HARDEST because they have mommy guilt tied into it! If you can tackle THAT - you can tackle anything! Way to go!
So I took out everything from the room to my living room. Then I built the 30 box organizer cubbies, then I set up boxes and labeled them. Every day I empty at least one box/tub, so many things saved, it's insane. I'm insane lol but it is working going on 3 months now. I told my son to be patient. I've taken a few days off along the way. If I do too much it hurts me. I've given a lot a way, and thrown out so much. Today I sorted the dvds, put them in a cd case, seven shelves are now empty. Do I sound proud? I sure am. Thank you Norrine for caring and helping me.
7 empty shelves!??!?! I am doing the happy dance for you!!!! You SHOULD be proud! That is all YOUR effort! I am so excited about your space.... Thank you so much for bringing me along. I can't wait for the 'after' photo!!!
As I sat down and watched this video I had to laugh I just spent most of my day organizing my craft room! I set this day aside for it! I love your videos!
I have been watching your videos now for a couple of months. REALLY hit home this past week when we had our Texas Winterpocalypse!! Poor Hubby saved all our big freezer food by putting it in trash bags and putting them outside while we were without power for 48 hours. He has sworn we will not be buying ANYTHING for the freezer again until we work through what we have! So the freezers will be the first to get organized!
Our bedroom has crept into more disarray than usual, which isn't good. My craft area can also become messy quickly and I feel more like creating when its not messy! I am going to use the timer to help me get started this weekend! Thanks for the encouragement!
Thank you for always giving us permission to be human! I'm a natural born perfectionist but your videos have really allowed me to relax & in turn accomplish more. Great analogies! Love, hugs & God Bless you 💕💕
I live with my elderly parents. My biggest challenge is setting strong boundaries/telling them no when I'm trying to get tasks and organizing done. The next is avoiding the hard work and becoming clutter blind.
That would be hard for me too..... since the kids are doing on-line learning, I seem to be available to them all waking hours now. Setting those boundaries is hard!
@@TheCraftyOrganizer 🛐 prayers for you to keep your sanity too. It's a struggle but God is bigger. We'll keep moving forward even if it is slow sometimes.
"Clutter blind" What a perfect term. That is what I had become! Am moving so I have been boxing up and sorting for quite a while now. There is still so much clutter left that I can't believe how much it had gotten out of hand. I just didn't see it! I am recovering from being clutter blind, but oh so slowly. If it hadn't been for the move, I might never have even started getting some control over "all this stuff".
Norrine, Thank you for the encouraging words for those of us who have some limitations. I would like to suggest a couple of strategies that have really helped me. Both of these are from Dana K White. One is to ‘take it there now’ and the other is no mess decluttering. So when I’m decluttering and throughout the day, I take things to where they go right away. This helps because when I stop, whether it’s 15 minutes or an hour later, I have not made a mess to deal with. Everything is in the trash, the decluttering box or where it belongs! Amazing!
Thank you THANK YOU Thank you for posting this video! I started this morning cleaning up what some might call a hoard. I honestly did not see a difference after working for nearly 10 hours. I needed your encouragement. I will work again tomorrow without guilt that I won't finish. I will work all day tomorrow and an hour each evening. I will get it done eventually. Thank you again. Oh, I do set a timer. I took that advice to heart. It does make a difference.
I've reorganized the same spaces several times over the years. Life changes. Family members move on or in, so bedding and drapes change from a guest room to a room used every night, or vice versa. You give away coats and footwear you don't or can't wear anymore because of illness and body changes, so your closet has more room so you can swap everything about. Or you have your fat clothes and your skinny clothes to store so you need more room. You stack a bunch of stuff to be organised properly then get sick so it sits untouched forever preying on your peace of mind. You save storage baskets and boxes and find they aren't what's needed when you get down to actually organising. Organising is WORK! Thanks for the reality checks. 👍😘
I have a BIG problem getting rid of stuff. One thing that helps with this is giving the item(s) away. Unfortunately (?), I have lots of space. 😇 P.S. I’m still subscribed.
I need to remember to use a timer! I pick a shelf of a bookcase or a mystery box and a Saturday disappears. I am reclaiming my office/art studio space. After 6 years of being plagued with health problems, the whole room had become a catch all. When lock down started, I was suddenly working from home full time. I also lost my ability to have a housekeeper come in every other week. I was panicked and overwhelmed. But I had nothing to lose and everything to gain. I reclaimed the desktop and moved outward. An hour here and there. Moving just a few items a day. Sometimes it involves staring at things and deciding what to toss or donate next. Sometimes it's filling trash bags or shredding papers. It's been almost a year and I'm down to the last few shelves. You are so right about making sure you give your body rest and Advil! You are also so right about it taking time and being hard work! Thanks for your videos. You keep me chugging along!
I am so proud of you!!!! You absolutely took the right approach! A little at a time doesn't feel like much - until you realize you are almost done!!!! It's amazing. So happy you are almost there!
I am working from home and one day I went to my office supplies boxes and found such obsolete items I was still storing! donated and sold most of them!
My BIGGEST problem if I through it away I will need it right after. I know I can just buy it again but that would make me nuts as well because I had the item now I have to spend money again.
My biggest struggle is getting up off my bum to get it done. I’m naturally lazy and brilliant at procrastination so this was the kick up the nethers I needed. I WILL get that under-the-stairs- cupboard done. Cheers Noreen. 😃👍
Love your channel. You are real and don't sugar coat anything. You tell it like it is and I so appreciate it. You should consider writing a book as one sunscriber suggested. I'm sure it would be a hit. I know I would be one of the purchasers. Thank you! Rose Marie
The hardest things to let go, in fact I’ve never been able to let go yet is my older kids things. Not every single thing, although it used to be that bad. But I almost lost it when they told me they wanted to go live with their dad. I didn’t show or tell them this. They were 16 & 14 and told me that they’ve had all this time with mostly me and now it’s time for them to be around their dad more and me on the weekends. But now they’re almost 20 & 17 and I’ve still kept some things I think they may (keyword May) want or may not. My daughter, whose oldest is not very sentimental and in fact left her pictures of friends and with her dad and his fam and with us too! She left 80% of her clothes and a lot of junk. I finally tackled her room and all the items I could donate have been taken as soon as I got a bag or two filled. It’s on my hubby’s way to work. But now I’ve got a craft/office/guest bedroom! And I’ve mostly turned my eldest sons room into our 8year olds room. They aren’t into the same things so I think I’m going to have to get rid of the LEGOs!! I might ask my son first if he wants any thing he made. (He used to do Lego Starwars RUclips videos lol so cute-he was like 9-10!!🤗) anyhoo, maybe I need to set a timer daily and each day work on different parts of the house. Otherwise it’s like stuff piles up and I wasn’t even trying to save it! 🤦♀️
Wow! I really needed this today Noreen :) Thank you for the pep talk, the encouragement, the analogies, but most of all, thank you for letting me know that I'm not some weird person with a lazy problem! It helps to know that I'm no different than any other person with stuff :) On another note, I watched the Home Edit. Went to the website, left the website buying zero. I have been making my own storage containers by saving boxes from mail deliveries, and clear containers from the grocery store. I've papered, painted, embellished, etc...I love the idea that my space is just as unique as I am. I feel that if you love your storage, you will keep your stuff in them :) and smile while doing it. Again, thank you for your constant encouragement and showing me "how to" but not putting me in a cubby hole :) Stay warm and well... :)
My New Years resolution was a major project a month...January was paper...I had 148 lbs of paper shredded...and many bags of paper for the trash. February is clean the attic spaces (3) and the closets. Several trips to the trash dump and several to local thrift store...still have a couple of closets to go and I will get there...my major obstacle is my hubby’s stuff especially clothes. He hasn’t worn many of the things in his closet for years...but he won’t let it go. 😕
Perhaps you could bag/box the items that are not his size, or have not been worn and KEEP it in the attic?? I'd bag it AND box it to keep it safe. This way he still has it.... but it's out of your main space! And.... if/when he finally IS ready to let it go - it's already boxed. :D
I love this video, because it is just what I am doing. i had been wanting to sort out my bedroom for months, but was overwhelmed by the scale of the job. So, I set myself targets for everyday. By doing small areas at a time, I found that they were getting sorting properly, not skimmed over. It took me two weeks of doing an hour a day, but now I am really happy with what I have accomplished. It has inspired me to tackle the kitchen now. Have already done my hour for today.
Try just picking up one item and putting it away. I know I can do one item every day. You may find, as I have, that putting one item away feels so good you want to do it again. Who knows, it might work for you too.
Watching at nearly 5am I’m thinking I’ll have to return a few more times. Our living room is a mess since early summer 2021 when I brought out my tubs of fabric to sew masks & bought more unique fabric some of it is on a couch. The Christmas decorations went up after the 25th and then I decided to organize & emptied the linen closet for crafts. The story just keeps on. Then I decided to lower my mattress w/box spring on floor & mattress this took away my storage under bed. The mess in the living room is heavy on my mind. Your advice of a timer I will try. And yes I’m a subscriber. Overwhelmed, but hopeful.
One thing I do after I set the timer is to listen to an audiobook while I organize...I usually set the timer for 60 minutes. You are a delight and so much fun to watch.
Try taking one item at a time to your care and drop off at a donation box. i do that and it's not as bad as trying to push a large bag into one of those containers.
So true. I'm working on my craft room. And recovering from a head injury. The timer is a big help. It's taking me a long time but I'm making progress. Thank you for all your tips!
Thank you so much I remembered when I first started watching your channel it was an answered prayer. That's was almost a year ago I started implementing what you suggested and have finally organized 4 closets and spaces in my rooms. I do some organizing each day its become a healthy habit. I'm so grateful for your channel. Thank you so much 💕🙏🏽☺️.
I like breaking down areas into like a grid, and work on one section at a time. So in my craft area, I'd maybe go by shelf or work top to bottom, but focusing on just one place at a time. If I try to dive in whole hog, I get overly stressed at everything at once, so setting micro tasks keeps me in check :) A little bit is better than none at all, am I right?
Thank you all for such warm welcoming to me I am feeling better about this whole thing, oh yeah my husband is on palitive care too which makes things so much worse but anyway thank you all pray for me 🌹🥰
👍👍Norrine Burke, I just LOVE you! You are so much someone I have needed in my life for a LONG time! Your no-nonsense approach to an organized life is for me truly life-changing. Though most of what you talk about is not new to me, I was often at a loss as to HOW TO APPLY the PRINCIPLES! Even when I knew how, I was often defeated before I started because I did not have REASONABLE EXPECTATIONS. I had to laugh at myself when you gave your analogy of the five-gallon bucket! Through your videos, you helped me months ago to realize that I needed to get rid of some basically useless pieces of furniture which opened up a lot of space in my bedroom. I have not missed those pieces (gave two to my aide) & have made two, narrow shelving units (not quite finished) from the six drawers I kept from a third piece that now house crafting supplies conveniently! Many things in my small apartment have been rearranged making it open up to a more comfortable environment physically, mentally, & emotinally, such a blessing especially during this pandemic! Yes, I am guilty of having thought & said each of the things on your list today; but you have opened my mind to some REALITIES! I am learning to be more realistic when it comes to my expectations of & for myself which has given me more peace. (I do have to remind myself sometimes that "Rome was not built in a day"---like your pyramid analogy.) Ultimately, I have learned that ORGANIZATION IS A PROCESS & AN ONGOING WORK IN PROGRESS! Keeping that in mind allows me to find great satisfaction in what I am able to accomplish whether little or much. I am so grateful to have become acquainted with you! CARRY ON, & CONTINUE TO CONQUER THE CLUTTER! 🤗 💞
Leslie - I am just so lucky to have amazing viewers like you!!!! I am so excited that you are finding progress and comfort in your space!!! That makes me so happy! I am always here to encourage and give suggestions if you need either. xoxoxo
I wish that everyone could hear what you have to say. This works for so many different things in our life. I have a son that struggles with many issues. The advice you gave here would be useful for him in organizing his life and choices. I hope I can get this to him to watch. Thank you for sharing this it can be life-changing if we are in the right frame or place to receive and use it.
I just love watching you. You have the most calming, peaceful energy. Thank you for this video! I’ve been beating myself up and feeling like a failure for not making more progress on my craft room. I’ve been working on it for a month! Though I have been making storage items as I go. Again, thank you for the motivation to keep going!! 💗
Sometimes I after sorting through a lot of stuff I can hit a wall where I don't know what to do next or I don't know how I should do the next step to wrap the task up. I've found involving my husband hugely helpful. I'll present the issues, goals, and options. He may have a suggestion that works or he may ask a question that helps me get perspective or just me talking it through can help me find the answer. I know not everyone has someone who is actually helpful and that "stuff" can be a huge source of stress in a relationship, but involving my husband helped him understand why it could be so hard to organize and manage our household.
I love hearing about supportive relationships!!! That is wonderful!!! I also find, walking away for a little bit and then coming back gives me a fresh perspective.
U-TUBE is bad about unsubcribing people. I'm not sure what the deal with that is, but I've even had them put people in that I'm not subscribed to in my list to watch like they were people I'd seen before. I needed that motivation I'm not getting anywhere with packing up for moving time to really get going thank you Noreen 🥰🐞🤗
Noreen unfortunately it won't be until the end of April. I have an ongoing Court thing that's going to last longer than foreseen. Which is good because now I have more time to get ready. LOL if I get ready darn Gallbladder is driving me nuts. I was able to find you insurance though so next month hopefully I'll be able to start getting something done with that. Life is a process. Oh by the way I recommended you to someone who is really trying to figure out how to get their craft room organized and I noticed in their comments somebody else recommended you. LOL popular girl you are!!🐞🥰🤗
My husband is a hoarder. Lots of stuff around chair in den. He would not go thru it and separate. I finally took and put it in rolling bins and stuck under my bed. He knows where it is and I don’t have to look at. He still has a lot in den but at least I can see some floor space
wow, this is all so true, i have been working on organizing for over a year. and i just ant seem to do it. i get overwhelmed or life get to me. i find myself thinking oh i will do it tomorrow. i am such a procrastinator . I really do need to get to it. it is affecting not only me but my family. my home is just cluttered, not dirty just cluttered. things seem to just multiply. and my hubby has anxiety and is very neat and it drives him crazy.
thank you for this post, this is sooooo true. I spend hours organizing and then I go to get rid of it a few days later , and I take half of it back, lol. Or I get rid of it and then wish I had it back. The storage get to be a problem too , no room for it all.
Hello sunshine. 🌞 I Love your humor and analogies. The pyramids was my favourite. I like it better than Rome wasn't built in a day. Lol. What is shocking is how you mentioned the subscribers missing. RUclips is strange on how they go about their business. I'll check mine out. Thanks for the heads up. Keep rocking. 🙏💜🌞
You are so right. It’s best to eat the elephant bite by bite and take your time doing it too. My craft/bedroom gets so bad, sometimes I don’t even want to look at it. When I can’t stand the chaos anymore I’ll walk over to my table and pick up one item to put away, or discard. That feels so great that I pick up another one and do the same thing. Sometimes it will take a few days for me to clear the table (I have emphysema and have to rest a lot) but when I am done I promise not to let it get that bad again. Of course it does, but I have learned that life happens. Norrine, it is so nice to have someone else I can identify with. Thank you.
It happens to me too!!!! I can only do so much in a day... some days (weeks) one area keeps getting ignored. It's ok! It will be there when I am ready. :)
Another excellent video! I just completed the organization of my kitchen pantry. It took me about 5 days; however, I did end up reorganizing a couple kitchen cabinets and several drawers simultaneously. It wasn't in my original plan to do all of that; however, after reevaluating my plan, which does make all the difference, I found it necessary to involve those areas as well. So far, the reorganizing and rearranging is working well, looks great, and gives me a wonderful sense of accomplishment. As far as setting a timer, for me, my achy knees remind me when I need a break. So, I sit for a bit then get back at it. I do need to keep reminding myself that it's always a work in progress. Thank you for all your great ideas and, most of all, for your continuing encouragement.
It sounds like you did it perfectly!!!! Sometimes having to address another area is what makes the target area succeed! Yes, it's more work and a bigger mess.... but you are so right - it's SOO rewarding and gives you a huge sense of accomplishment! Way to go, Patricia!
🤚 my hands was raised immediately... I'm presently going thru my craft room...I finished my big paper talk and am on to the plastic drawers that holds specific items(flowers, Valentine's etc) My biggest issue is setting things down and they don't get out away.... Love your videos lady
I am still subscribed. Very happily so. I truly appreciate the ugly truth about organizing. Because they’re all true. Especially that never ending organization. You live in a space it’s going to constantly be need to be re-organized. I am working on my bedroom/craft area. It’s overwhelming, and the best thing I can do for myself is truly look at all the craft supplies that I have and wonder not wonder, decide, what I’m keeping or not. You are amazing! Thank you so much!
You've got this!!!!! If you are not sure if you're going to need it or not - create a maybe box. Set a date for 6 months. If you didn't get it out of the maybe box within that time period... goodbye!
I had to resubscribe, when I saw this come up I thought why didn't I get notified. At first I thought maybe I hadn't really done it in the first place but I've watched tons of your videos so I'm pretty sure I got kicked off. Anyway I'm looking forward to more videos. Thanks for the encouragement, I think sometimes that's what people need to just get started.
Oh yes this video is all about me. Make a plan then, work that plan! I have said this too; I heard it from a young child. A place for everything and everything in its place.
Great tips as always Norrine. Funny you mention that yt has been unsubscribing when I've noticed things popping up on my "subscribed" that I have absolutely no interest in whatsoever yet they somehow made it into my subscription list.
One thing I do is put like things together one at a time. Like one style of paper all together in one spot. Then another day I will get all of my dies together. I have COPD so I can't do much at one time!!! But I listen and watch all your videos and try to follow everything you say!!! Thank you so very much, I may never be completely organized but it won't be for not trying!!! Hugs💗🧓
Hi Peggy, I know how you feel. My COPD is emphysema and it wants to keep you quiet. One thing at a time is my way too. So happy that we have Norrine to get us motivated.
Ooooooh soooo true!!! I never even thought about a timer!!!?????? Like I said in your last vid, these are the things I not only need to hear but, apply!!!! Your just like " The Cars". the band 'YOUR JUST WHAT I NEEDED". ☝️🙋🥰🤩🗣️✌️🤗😆🌞😍😃👍🤛
OMG you know me and how I feel. My kids still much me saying theres a place for everything and everything in its place . I still watch keep posting. We corresponded a while ago and everything is on the back burner for a while. But I think I can take a small tiny area like top of dresser, nightstand or printer stand and just for a few minutes go through it. Baby steps till I can focus on me and my space. Timer. . . Will work on that. Thanks again for these inspirations. CJ
Great video & tips. I especially agree with setting a timer. I’m a person who loses concentration quickly & without my timer I would do too much & then lost interest.
I have a spare bedroom that I don't know what to do with it . It's easy for me to close the door and forget about it aka the black whole. This bedroom is years in progress🤦♀️ working from home made it worst and sometimes it can be overwhelming
Yeah... I've just started watching your videos. My husband and I are both "collectors" ,I am disabled and have adhd so I get frustrated so easily. But I'm trying. I like the timer idea.
Love, Love This Video Girl! I’ve been doing some of the steps that you mention before this video aired. I’m telling everyone that YES IT WORKS! Thanking you for everything. Blessings Girl! ✂️🙏📏
The timer is the only thing that gets me through organizing sessions. If I don't set one, I either do entirely too much or I talk myself out of doing it and only do anything productive for about five minutes.
I'm a fairly new subscriber ,and I thank you for helping me get organized. I can SEE my yarn now, not in mystery boxes anymore 😊....and today I cleaned and organized the junk drawer using recycled materials for my organizers ie. Cereal and cracker boxes... Still many area's needing attention but I get there... love the timer idea
@@TheCraftyOrganizer thank you for the welcome and thank you for sharing all your wonderful ideas and encouragement for those of us that struggle ❤️ from Nova Scotia Canada 🇨🇦
You have motivated me to declutter and organize since I've been watching you. Thanks for all your practical advice. I have been working for a week now, and it feels so good to organize and donate.
I have to work very much with what I have. Discovered I can tart up ordinary cardboard boxes, turning them into pretty containers to store a still-large amount of necessary materials for my studio work projects. Now visitors want to know where I found the boxes! (the prettied up version) 🙂 But I recently uncovered a few things I haven't touched in 2 and a half years, so am looking forward to getting rid of them, then I have better and more accessible storage for what I DO use daily! Thanks for being you and being so very helpful!
Yes, I am still subscribed👏👏👏 My biggest struggle is asking for help. I have always been very independent, even overbearing at times. Asking for my hubby to help me is still difficult because by the time that I ask I am already frustrated by trying and not being able to do it myself. Then I get impatient because he doesn't respond immediately and I lash out. Then I realize I've been a jerk and apologize profusely. He always tells me that he loves to serve me and it both makes my heart swell and break because I cannot return the favor most times. When I get mean and hurtful I wish that make up sex could fix it all (we are all adults here, right?) but I can't even enjoy that due to pain and joint issues. I guess that's where all my crafting energy comes from! I'm giggling as I dictate this because if I don't laugh I'm going to cry. Talk about reality! Norrine, your community has done more for me than any therapy that I've ever received for life's disasters I've experienced over the years. I have learned a lot from experience and I'm also finding this to be a great way to share what I've learned with others. THANK YOU NORRINE BURKE FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO FOR OTHERS AND WHAT YOU HAVE SPECIFICALLY DONE FOR ME. You had better let me know if you were ever heading to Western Arizona in the tri-state area of California Nevada and Arizona because if I don't get to meet you in person I'll be really upset. I've got a huge sofa, and a little in ground pool in our backyard. You could take a dip and relax and I wouldn't even ask you to work. 🤗🤗
I can't WAIT to come and meet you!!!! I feel the same way about my FB group! I am just humbled at the amazing group of people that came together to support each other. I am so happy to hear how it has helped you!!!!
If only you lived closer. I paid someone once to sort out paper. In my craft room ( scrapbooker here) She left me a mess. I’m still struggling. Baby steps. Be well be blessed.
OH NO! It always makes me sad to hear that.
“Sometimes it looks worse before it will look better. Keep going. It’s going to be ok”
Both are so true 🌺🌿
Karen Robbins - Playing Tetris with boxes! I love it! LOLOL!!!
'Tetris'... Lol... Yup.
Hugs!!
@@Warriorsurvivor1427 indeed she is better than my therapist 😉
@@TheCraftyOrganizer Awww thank you. ;)
Important to avoid mirrors when feeling young. lol
Mirrors are so nasty! Who is that old woman? Me?! Darn
@@lindatewalt7937 She looks just like my Grandma!
You are so sweet! I do the same thing!!!! I put on music I love and bop to the music. :)
I am so excited for you!!!!!! I'm rooting for you!!!
@@TheCraftyOrganizer Thank you!
Yippee!!!!
@@suzum.9713 Way to go!!!! You will get there!!!
Tee hee... I do that when I play a game. "I can only play for ......." It works!
My biggest limitations are physical and no help. When I have some one to help, it gets done.
As always I need to hear what you have - sometimes I re-listen to your videos. I believe the most important word of advice for me is "set a timer" don't shut the door. Thank you, thank you.
I now have the mantra: One box at a time. For me, that's manageable and I feel very accomplished when complete. Thanks so much for all your tips!
That's perfect!!!!
Norrine, you are an angel 👼🏻 have you considered writing a book? Your tips are for real people. For real homes. There are so many others that need to hear you. You are my inspiration ❤️🇦🇺
What an awesome idea! With the money Norrine can get her camper! I love it!
Aww, what a sweet comment & I totally agree!
I actually have..... I started one several years ago, and it died with a computer crash. Maybe I will start it again! 💜🌿
Dee.... oh my gosh!!! That would be amazing!!!!!
@@TheCraftyOrganizer Not maybe Norrine lets make it happen.
Limits, limits, limits....remember that I'm not 30 anymore. What I want to get done today is going to take me 2 days or even 3 and that's okay. (see, I'm learning. I can do this.)
Yay!!!! I wouldn't want to go back to my 30's even if I could! LOL
Such good advice! I think so many of us are too hard on ourselves. Do what you can, when you can and be content...you will get it done! 👍🥰
I need to remember to set a timer from now on so I don’t wear out before beginning.
Way to go!
I must remember to set the timer, so that the whole weekend does not get away from me. Thank You for the reminder 🙋🏿♀️😀😂🤣😭😅🤓
You got this! I should make t-shirts! LOL I need a reminder sometimes too.
I find it hard to let things go. I'm getting better. Just taking it 30 minutes at a time
Great video. Thank you. I love the timer idea. Have a wonderful afternoon. 💜😊🌷
at my age, I have a built in timer. If I have to go downstairs to use the bathroom, I'm not coming back up that day.
Oh! I like that!!!!! Except my body is rude and interrupts me constantly!!! I'd NEVER get anything done!!!! LOL
My biggest problem is impatience - I want to get it all done today! Using a timer and setting that limit is the best tip for me!
Consider me your personal cheerleader and giver of suggestions! You've got this!💜
As I sat down and watched this video I had to laugh I just spent most of my day organizing my craft room! I set this day aside for it! I love your videos!
Once I get organized I will know exactly what I have. Unless my ideas change.
Hope you guys are safe and warm!!!! What a crazy storm!!!!
Our bedroom has crept into more disarray than usual, which isn't good. My craft area can also become messy quickly and I feel more like creating when its not messy! I am going to use the timer to help me get started this weekend! Thanks for the encouragement!
This gives me inspiration for taking on our pantry. It really needs help.
You've got this!!!
Thank you for always giving us permission to be human! I'm a natural born perfectionist but your videos have really allowed me to relax & in turn accomplish more. Great analogies! Love, hugs & God Bless you 💕💕
That makes me so happy!!!!!! Keep up the great work, Angie!!!! I am rooting for you!!!
@@TheCraftyOrganizer Aww, thank you Norrine that means so much!! 😍💕💕😃
Amazing!
Great advise, Sandy! Thanks for sharing!!
You got this! Take a picture when you start too - THAT really helps to show the difference you made. 💜
LOL! I boxed up my skinny clothes by sizes, so If I ever go down, I know where they are.
I love the weight gain analogy. The build up of stuff happened over time and now I need to do the daily timer discipline to prune it back.
What a refreshing video about the expectations and realities of organizing. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! 🌺
I have a BIG problem getting rid of stuff. One thing that helps with this is giving the item(s) away. Unfortunately (?), I have lots of space. 😇
I have a GREAT suggestion for that!!!! ruclips.net/video/eCZQj5j7m9U/видео.html
I feel that way too and when I need it I have to go buy it again
My biggest struggle is getting up off my bum to get it done. I’m naturally lazy and brilliant at procrastination so this was the kick up the nethers I needed. I WILL get that under-the-stairs- cupboard done.
Cheers Noreen. 😃👍
I am like that too.... I have to set a timer that doesn't turn off automatically that makes me GET UP on some days. LOL
Love your channel. You are real and don't sugar coat anything. You tell it like it is and I so appreciate it. You should consider writing a book as one sunscriber suggested. I'm sure it would be a hit. I know I would be one of the purchasers. Thank you!

I just may!!!! Thank you so much for your support and kind words. xoxoxo
@@TheCraftyOrganizer yes, do !
I love you so much you make feel so good
Motivates me to start thank you
love the paper idea!
Trying so hard to get motivated! My whole house is beginning to look like a preview of Hoarders!🤷♀️🤦♀️
Try just picking up one item and putting it away. I know I can do one item every day.
You may find, as I have, that putting one item away feels so good you want to do it again.
Who knows, it might work for you too.
I can relate. My clutter is clean, but it's still clutter
Don't look at the 'house'.... look at a counter, or a table, or a shelf. Looking at smaller spaces is less overwhelming. 💜
I stage things to be on the way to another room. then when I'm headed that way, i pick it up and put it where it goes.
Really, really good messages! Thank you! Having someone there for moral support can be a game changer, too, especially when it's overwhelming?
So true!
Consider me your personal cheerleader! I will be here rooting for you to get your space back and am happy to offer suggestions if you need them! 💜
One thing I do after I set the timer is to listen to an audiobook while I organize...I usually set the timer for 60 minutes. You are a delight and so much fun to watch.
That's a great idea! And, thank you, Charlotte!!!!
Biggest issue for me is getting things out of the house. They are piled near the door, but getting them out is always the issue.
same.
Are donation service pick-ups available in your area yet?? They are suck a huge help!
So many things get set near the door to go and some things make their way back.
Melinda - YOU just made my day!!!! I am so happy to hear about your progress!!!! You are a rock star!!!
Melinda, now I’m inspired again. A little reorganization each day. There’s always something, right? Thanks
I like that - a healthy habit!
🎉🎉🎉Good job!
Absolutely!!!! Anything to keep you from feeling overwhelmed and focused on moving forward!!! Way to go!!!!
Such wonderful advice. My biggest obstacle is motivation. I look around and feel defeated before I start
I get it!!! It happens when you are looking at the whole project. Try and decrease your line of sight to one spot.

I am always here to encourage and give suggestions if you need either. xoxoxo
Setting the timer, good plan for me to work on it everyday.
You are so welcome! Thanks for being a part of this group!!!
That happened to me too! What's up with You Tube? Love your channel 😊
I also find, walking away for a little bit and then coming back gives me a fresh perspective.
you are lucky to have him!
Yes, you are so lucky. Can't let my husband help because he would just throw everything away. :)
Boy, can I relate to the bucket story. That’s my problem, too much stuff!
You are right! I had 3 channels I'd never heard about on my sub list. It's so bizarre! When are you moving?
That is the hardest thing.... my ex was like that. 😞
wow, this is all so true, i have been working on organizing for over a year. and i just ant seem to do it. i get overwhelmed or life get to me. i find myself thinking oh i will do it tomorrow. i am such a procrastinator . I really do need to get to it. it is affecting not only me but my family. my home is just cluttered, not dirty just cluttered. things seem to just multiply. and my hubby has anxiety and is very neat and it drives him crazy.
sounds like my husband!
thank you for this post, this is sooooo true. I spend hours organizing and then I go to get rid of it a few days later , and I take
half of it back, lol.
Thanks, Elise xoxoxox
I'm presently going thru my craft room...I finished my big paper talk and am on to the plastic drawers that holds specific items(flowers, Valentine's etc)
My biggest issue is setting things down and they don't get out away....
Love your videos lady
You've got this!!! Just keep taking those baby steps!!!! I am here rooting for you!!!
@@TheCraftyOrganizer I love spell check.... Was suppose to be paper rack and not plural on holds......... Oh well😀🤗
I am still subscribed.
If you didn't get it out of the maybe box within that time period... goodbye!
Thanks for the positive energy and motivation to get things tidied up.
Any time! 🌺
Thanks for re-subbing! Silly RUclips!!! LOL
I was unsubscribed from all my favorite youtubers a few months ago! don't know what happened! had to re-subscribe each one.
Right?? That happened to me too! Well, at least we know now to check. Thanks for looking!
@@TheCraftyOrganizer You are very welcome.
I so needed this today! Thank you.
Hugs💗🧓
Being organized isn't the goal... enjoying your space is 💜🌿
Hi Peggy, I know how you feel. My COPD is emphysema and it wants to keep you quiet.
One thing at a time is my way too.
So happy that we have Norrine to get us motivated.
good luck to you!
Yes I am still subscribed.
Thank you for checking!!!!
Thanks. I needed that pep talk. I gotta stay focused and dig in. Thanks for all the good tips.
Yay!!! And that's a great song I've not heard in a while.... "Hey, Alexa.... play The Cars". ;)
You are so right about everything that you’ve saying
Thanks, Anita!
CJ
Those baby steps, along with the timer, honestly make such a huge difference! I hope you will try them. xoxoxo
Love this!!! I’ve put “blinders” on to most of my house 😢 the job is so daunting that I just avoid it & it makes me unhappy
Great video & tips.
I especially agree with setting a timer. I’m a person who loses concentration quickly & without my timer I would do too much & then lost interest.
I get distracted easily too! Hope it helps!
Incredible advice as usual Norrine. Thank you
Thank you for videos. I am still wanting to get organized but just get so overwhelmed when I go to craft room... errrrrr
Take care. Hugs Sheryl
I'm totally rooting for you!!!!!
I have a spare bedroom that I don't know what to do with it . It's easy for me to close the door and forget about it aka the black whole. This bedroom is years in progress🤦♀️ working from home made it worst and sometimes it can be overwhelming
I understand the overwhelming part!!!! I have let my garage go - it's my toughest area to stay on top of.
Yeah... I've just started watching your videos. My husband and I are both "collectors" ,I am disabled and have adhd so I get frustrated so easily. But I'm trying. I like the timer idea.
Consider me your personal cheerleader and giver of suggestions! 💜
Welcome edwina. 🌞
Thank y'all
So very true! Thanks💕💫
Thanks for watching!
Love, Love This Video Girl!
I’ve been doing some of the steps that you mention before this video aired. I’m telling everyone that YES IT WORKS!
Thanking you for everything.
Blessings Girl! ✂️🙏📏
Woohoo!!!! Doing the happy dance for you!!!!! So glad it's working!
The timer is the only thing that gets me through organizing sessions. If I don't set one, I either do entirely too much or I talk myself out of doing it and only do anything productive for about five minutes.
I am so glad it's working for you!!!!!
I’m the same.
Still subscribed!
Whew!
Firstly - WELCOME! Secondly... WAY TO GO!! I am so excited to hear about your yarn!!!! Oh, and the upcycled storage - wonderful!
I'm so excited for you!! This is wonderful to hear!!!!
Yes, I am still subscribed👏👏👏
My biggest struggle is asking for help.
Great truths I know, but appreciate your outline of helps! And on we go......!😉
You've got this!
I am still subscribed 😁
Yay!!! Thank you for checking. xoxoxo
