    I havent watched the video, but i've seen enough FEAR 3 vids to know one of the 2 ways it can go: you either hate it and think it sucks or think its mediocre but overhated, and both takes are right and valid, compatible, even.
    Its not a fantastic game, but its one of those games that has a lot of virtues that are wholly unrelated to it being a sequel to FEAR, which makes it a very interesting game to look at and analyze.
    Im still gonna watch the video, i love your content! while im here, do orcs must die 3 pls, your review of 1 and 2 is what got me to buy those and 3 is also stellar.

    I’ve been playing through the mainline FEAR games for the past few days, and I just so happened to beat the 3rd game today. Imo I am genuinely not sure what my favourite of the games are, since each of them have really good mechanics, awesome/scary moments and overall playing through them all in a row was a good fun time. By the way, I played 3 solo, and yeah, it’s quite the challenge. Thought it was a fun challenge though.

    I like FEAR 2&3 quite a bit, but ever since I first played FEAR 1, I have wanted FEAR 1: The Sequel, lol if that makes sense... The first FEAR really is special. I enjoyed your review of the series.

    I liked FEAR 3. I thought the action was good and loved the mech sequences. There were a couple of annoying parts (one part in an aiport I think and the last boss). The upgrades should've been better and allow you to chose what you wanted to upgrade. I need to go and try it out as Fettel.

  • @Gruntvc

    Yeah, I preferred FEAR 2 to this one. I know that FEAR 1 & Extraction Point are the best games in the franchise, but I still had fun playing 2.
    I really didn't like the story or characters in 3. Plus it was hard to even become immersed while playing as the game constantly reminds you it's just a game with those annoying challenges. At FEAR 2 kept the upgrades from classic FEAR.
    Very disappointing end to a once amazing franchise. WB will probably never make a game like FEAR today.
    At least we've Trepang2...

    FEAR 3 felt like another shooter from the early 2010s competing with COD from its gameplay and action. Just like every other shooter from that time. Halo 4 for instance.

    I feel like this game when way overboard with the paranormal and supernatural aspect. A departure from the more grounded feel of the first game.

    I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that prefers 3 over 2. 3's melee system actually works, playing as Paxton can be a lot of fun, grenades explode on impact again, the ragdolls are better, better destruction and particle effects, occasionally interesting art direction and use of lighting. Just an overall net improvement. F.E.A.R. 2 ruined a lot of the gunplay of the original and 3 doesn't fully fix it, but it remedies some of the mistakes 2 did. I don't care about the lack of horror, personally. I never truly liked the horror in the series fully, it always had problems, despite its positives. Atmosphere was good but the scares themselves was bad. Melee fights with the zombies is fun since, unlike most Replica, they don't die instantly to melee. I also like how, when a grenade doesn't impact an enemy before it hits the ground, it will instead become timed, and enemies can trip up on it.
    Also, this game's mech sections are incredible. I love them. You can run through the walls, not just shoot them, which lends to great pacing and forward-momentum.
    The scavengers aren't that hard to fight solo on mouse and keyboard.

    I quite liked the Fucking Run mode. It was a nice spin on the usual extraction mode we get. Campaign coop was interesting for a little bit but end up being the most generic of the 3. Wasnt fan either of the outcome of the protagonist of fear 2. They couldve flesh out his character more from the trauma he got.

    Why do you think we haven't seen a new FEAR game in over a decade?

    • @jarg8
      @jarg8 2 года назад +4

      Because the series alienated fans of the original. I played them all over the last few weeks and, while I enjoyed aspects of each of them, 2 and 3 have almost no idea what to do with the series. The biggest mistake was moving away from the original idea of the FEAR team moving through different paranormal experiences in future games as opposed to focusing solely on Alma which was fully resolved before 2 ever came out.

    I didn't like this at the time but I do want to give it another shot. I found it janky, unfinished, had worse graphics, repetitive copy and paste level design and was huge step backwards from Fear 2. I didn't get round to the Paxton Fettel missions which I've heard are better.

  • @stolenname94

    A very fair review and one I agree with. It wasn't a bad game, but a poor sequal to the original. When fear 3 came out I was disappointed for the first hour or so, but then I kinda got into it. The gameplay is excellent and the combat arenas were a step up from fear 2. Fear 3 didn't manage to scare me like fear 1 (and 2 did have maybe one or two moments I jumped at) but I did appreciate its approach with the cultists, who were kinda creepy at first. It isn't as good as fear 1, but if I was to mark it on its own merits I would say its a good shooter. I will always feel alil bitter that fear 2 and 3 didn't take more inspiration from the original. But they are all good games.......
    But the og is the best
    And extraction point is the cannon ending.... ;)
    Nice review 👌

    Every reviewer talks about the great AI in FEAR but does it really play into anything? Most of the gunfights are over before they do anything meaningful and it just always feels like I'm fighting CoD enemies except I can understand them.

    • @johnnyappleseed8127
      @johnnyappleseed8127 2 года назад

      The original fear and Halo has the best AI in history. The Fear 2 AI was close to the 1st one but the shooting mechanics was a step back. It wasn't smooth and fluid like the 1st one. Fear 3 AI was two steps back from the 1st but is wasn't bad, with it being 2 steps behind the 1st one but it still is a step above Cod AI. Fear 3 was fun at that's the problem. Fear suppose to have intense gun fights and decent horror elements and the physics of the 1st one was ahead of it's time and still is.

    Oh boy, here we go... before i watch the video im gonna say what i felt when playing this game:
    "this tries too hard to copy Call of Duty instead of building on the actual basis this franchise once stood on..." lets see what the video says...

    • @LegioXXI
      @LegioXXI 2 года назад +1

      Okay i watched it and, just like as your opinion to Extraction Point, i have to disagree. While FEAR 2 was a downgrade and basically a console port, it still had good moments to shine and a decent story. But FEAR 3 lost everything the series stood for. Coop may be fun but the AI is no threat and it ain't scary. It has no tension at all. The characters are irrelevant, you care for no one and therefore you dont care about the story. All the questions after FEAR 2 (what will happen to Beckett? Will he maybe even be the final boss of FFEAR 3?) are answered in the most lame possible: A cutscene where he just gets killed by Fettel for no real reason.
      Like seriously, the *one story line* that actually had the chance to be interesting is just wasted this way?
      Also the gameplay, like i just said, is so typical for that era: Every single shooter tries to be the next Call of Duty clone. (Endless) Sprinting, regenerating health, boring as hell cover shooter mechanics, dumb AI just being cannon fodder... and did i mention regenerating health, the most casual thing ever invented within the shooter genre? There is zero resource management at all, even ammo is basically no problem - since Fettel can just possess enemies. You just rush trough the levels without care for anything. The AI is not dangerous, you dont need to manage health packs, the story is uninteresting...
      If you take the title of "FEAR" away and remove characters like Alma and Fettel, what remains to define this game? What makes it unique? Nothing.
      FEAR 1 would still be a mysterious action-FPS with kickass melee-attacks, creative weapons and amazing AI. FEAR 3 has nothing that makes it unique - its as soulless and generic as a shooter can be.
      It fell into the same trap so many other CoD-Clones did:
      If one wanna play CoD, said person is going to play CoD - and not one of its clones with a smaller player base.
      FEAR 2 has a different identity and approach, but FEAR 3 has no identity at all.
      And to me, just being one of thousands generic COD-Clones is far worse than just trying something different (even if its not hitting the mark 100%).
