    Oh my gosh,I worked in a gretsch guitar factory, and Mr Atkins had several guitars he endorsed,he played for us, while visiting. The coolest ever!! Made it look effortless!!

      I was reading something on Facebook this morning about the Oak Ridge Boys and all of a sudden I had one of them thar epiphany things and it dawned on me what made Chet unique. While there are hundreds of other great fingerstyle players nowadays I think what made Chet so special was that the 4 fingers of his left hand were like the 4 individual voices of Joe, Duane, Bill, and Richard.
      It's like the sum being greater than the total of each singer's individual voice. Have I confused you?
      I confused myself. 😅😅😅

    That was nice of Chet to honour Johnny with "I Walk The Line" at the end.

    He just made it look SO easy, like as if the rest of us could do it with almost no effort. But that’s one sign of a truly great player. And you can see how much he loved playing.

    • @101Volts
      @101Volts 5 месяцев назад +1

      It *was* easy for him; he had practiced enough, and he knew his way around the fret-board well. But it's also the first few months that are the hardest for any new player, especially with regards to fretting hand posture.

      Guess that's why they called him Mr, Guitar. Roy Clark made e everything he did look hard (except sing balads). It was part of his schtick. Jerry's songs DID require alot of work because they were so complicated and difficult to play....for everyone except Chet that is.

      @@lulimas Ignore this guy. I don't know what his problem is. He's just replying to these comments trying to bring Chet down. This was either in 1969 or 1970. Paul started working with Chet in 1975... I don't know why but he seems to think that Chet didn't actually play boom chick style guitar? Chet played the bass line with his thumb and the melody with his fingers. Tommy Emmanuel does it, Merle Travis did it and a lot more great players do it as well. Never have I heard anyone say what this guy is saying, he's just mad for no apparent reason.

    It should be required of all young guitarist that they MUST watch any thing Chet Atkins did. Far too many are in it for the flash, believing that a song is 3 chords waiting for a shedding solo. THIS is how you play the guitar. Very few, and I mean VERY few, belong in his league. NO ONE is above it. He did more chord changes than anyone this side of Jimmy Page, in ONE song. Ridiculous!

      Finger picking is the way you play the banjo so around long before jimi but I'm love jimi. When it comes to guitarists doing it's credit to merle Travis and is called Travis picking and then chet tells the story about it but he added all fingers which merle didn't do. Also to the more you know guy hardly anyone played this way because everyone was classical trained and this was definitely not classical trained and mark knopfler was probably the first rock guitarist to play this way.

    Hey, who is playing the bass notes? Is this like the clown car, where clowns come from nowhere. Listen and look and you will hear bass notes, lots of them when he is NOT playing any bass note strings. This must be a 'magic show', where we hear stuff that we THINK we see. So deceitful. Actually, Paul Yandell is playing the bass notes behind the curtain, but they didn't want you to know that, just wanted you to frustrate yourself in trying to duplicate something that was not 'duplicatable'. Sorry, Mr. Guitar.
